Hard to believe Hughie is 75! WOW! I always wondered....we had Hughie, Dewey.....and I was waiting for Lewey to show up! ( you know, from the cartoon ducks)....that HAD to be where the writers got the names from. That's too big of a coincidence not to be!

Through my life, I have wanted a Ferrari, a mansion, ( To be rich) , to be a world famous rock singer , etc. etc. but now, just a few days short of being 61 ( Aug. 31) , I simply want to be at peace , with a simple life and be debt free and not have to work. The crazy thing is I have all this and I'm not sure if I'll ever buy anything crazy ( mansion, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.) but now that I'm in a position to do these things.....I have no desire! Go figure! When you don't have it, you want it and when you do have it, you don't really have a desire! weird huh? Here's something else I've noticed. .......When I was in college ( you know the time of your life, when it's, " Money? What's money? " ) I was buying Heineken Beer on Thursday nights, that was the Friday night for us! We would schedule, as much as possible the easiest and fewest classes for Friday and then when that last class is done, it's back home and Weekend time! Anyway, Thursday, I'd go to 3rd and Main Market and buy a 6 pk. of Heineken and .....well you know the rest ! I always said, drink Heineken and you'll feel fine again! now that I'm able to buy that expensive beer on the reg. like I did then, I buy Milwaukees Best Ice or Natural Ice. Weird huh?

It warms my heart to see all these tributes. Dukes fans are a big family with a common bond and it's nice to see us come together like this.

Thanks Hoss, yes I did see coverage of it. CNN did a live special. Here it was cloudy but occasionally a window would open up. The Sun was only 5 percent blocked here in NW Pennsylvania so it wasn't anything spectacular....but still cool anyways. Brian May was very active with Astronomy magazine but hasn't done much in it lately.

Roger, I don't know if you saw, but we had a solar eclipse over parts of Europe earlier this evening. It was best viewed from Spain, but we were meant to have pretty good views here. Sadly, although it got quite dark around 7pm, I had cloud cover where I live. I liked the trailer for a later news show on TV last night. They were going to be interviewing Queen guitarist Brian May, who also has a PhD in astrophysics, about the eclipse, and said he'd be telling you why for this time only you shouldn't "Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see". I'm sure it was only going to be a warning about looking at the sun, but I liked the lyrics tie-in. In case you don't recognize the words, it's the third line of this:

I met Ben Jones ( and the other DOH Stars) at the “Hazard County Fair “ in Macon Ga when I was 16 years old . The Macon Telegraph had and article about the event and many people had negative comments . I thought the event was great and enjoyed my time meeting several of the cast members. I wrote a review about the Event and how much I enjoyed it and apparently it found its way to Ben . He actually called me ( after he came to my small hometown of Henderson Ga and I was out of town) . He stopped at the only store in our Un-Incorporated town and spoke with several of the farmers ( one of whom gave him my phone # ) and community members who often stopped in the store to talk about the day and buy a soda or snack. He left me several items including an autographed photo that I still have 44 years later . He impressed me so much as a teenager because he took time out of his busy life to find a 16 YO country girl in a small unknown town to just say thank you ! RIP Ben “Cooter”! Susan Thames Newton

Thank you for this lovely obituary. I send my sincere condolences to Alma and all the family. I watch The Dukes of Hazzard on a regular basis (on DVD) and will always be a big fan of the show. I just wanted to send my condolences and my prayers to Alma. I grew up watching the dukes of hazzard. I always thought cooter was funny and loveable. And a duke at heart Im so sorry alma for losing ben cooter Davenport. I hope alma keeps the dukes store up and running in memory of Ben cooter Davenport Jones. Rip Ben Jones u will be forever missed by everyone the cast and fans of the dukes of hazzard

Thank you so much to the Jones family for sharing Ben through the years and for his dedication to making this world a better place for all of us. I took my 82 year old father to Cooter’s Place, Pigeon Forge, this past fall and it gave us both such wonderful memories. My prayers are with Ben’s family as they mourn his loss. We KNOW that he’s seen the face of Jesus and is entertaining angels at this very moment. ❤️

I never had the pleasure of meeting Ben. I did get to watch him as Crazy C or Cooter. Loved The Dukes Of Hazzard show very much. Still have my boxed collection and watch them daily. I pray that Alma and his kids have strength and comfort above from the Lord. He will be missed but never forgotten. Sending prayers to all and especially his many friends and fans.

This is a good question. After I turned 65 in April of last year (I'm 7 days younger than Bo) I started thinking about it more. I have been so blessed in life except for the one great tragedy of losing my only child in a car accident. There is really nothing more I feel like I need to accomplish in life except for one thing and I have been working on that lately. I know we aren't supposed to talk about religion but considering the circumstances ( and considering the folks of Hazzard were religious) maybe the moderators will let it slide this time. I love astronomy and I always got tired of people claiming that you have to believe in science or religion. You can't believe in both because they both can't be right. To counter that I have been working on three projects. One of them is a novel. It is classified as Christian science fiction and I've been working on it on and off for 10 years. The other is a children's book that targets teenagers like my grandson who declared last year that he is an atheist because science can answer everything and the things it can't answer now it will eventually find answers to. The third is a power point presentation that proves that God and science are indeed compatible, not combative. I am going to present it to a church group and see where it goes from there. If it ever gets on You Tube I could let you folks know. I sure hope we get more responses to your question Tom.
