Uh oh. Looks like I've gotta update/redo the theme. I hope not. Thanks for the heads up.

    Hi folks,
My first time on the forum in a LONG time (in fact, I've just spent two hours trying to remember which email I used so I could access my old account).
One of my goals is to post MUCH more regularly this year, but for now... It's a key date for U.K. fans such as myself... as Sat 3rd March 1979 marked the first time 'The Dukes of Hazzard' was ever broadcast in the United Kingdom!

My all-time favourite TV series, that shaped myself, my interests and my character in so many ways. Literally my first memories in life are sitting on my father's knee watching the series (he watched it religiously every week, on the excuse that "he (meaning me) likes it")!
BBC1 showed the first four episodes in a Saturday 9 p.m. slot, before a brief break and resuming a month or so later with episode 5, "High Octane" on Mondays at 7:20 p.m. (a year or two later it would move again to it's early Saturday evening slot where the series would enjoy it's highest U.K. viewing figures). Although I'm pretty certain I would have been tucked up in bed for those first four episode (I would have been 1 year old at the time), I'm pretty certain that by some of those earliest Monday broadcasts I would have been sat on my Dad's knee watching it all.

Last year I pieced together the original U.K. broadcast history and order for the series (I might share it on the forum at some point actually), just to see what was shown in what order... and to try and piece together my very earliest memories; it was actually quite therapeutic.

For those of us that were there originally (even us who can barely remember it), we were very lucky. Will never see the likes of such a TV series again.

I knew this anniversary was coming up, but had a busy weekend and forgot. I could've sworn I'd posted the listing below already on HNet, but couldn't find it. It's from British TV guide the Radio Times, and shows details of the debut of 'One Armed Bandits' (NB. I've rearranged the original layout to make it more screen-friendly).

I've just noticed that they misspelled Gy's names as Guy near the bottom.

I think we may have discussed this before, but there are indeed a large number of expressions and idioms in the English language that involve the word "Dutch". I found a list on a Dutch website (that's not one of the phrases, and the site is in English). The article says that most of these terms came into use in the 17th century when there were many conflicts between England and the Netherlands, and the Netherlands lost the Dutch colony which later became New York. As They Might Be Giants once sang, "Even old New York was once New Amsterdam."

Some popular examples are: a Dutch auction, Dutch courage, talking double Dutch and to go Dutch (a Dutch treat).

That is a bit shocking but I'm glad you two are okay. Do whatever you have to do to keep it that way and keep us posted. Maybe you need a vicious watchdog like Velvet Ears to protect you. The cat might help a little but a highly trained police attack dog like Flash can be valuable in keeping you safe......as long as you can wait until after nap time.
Edit: I should add that is a GORGOUS cat. I'd keep it too.

This is a great thread with some incredible info! Thanks for everyone sharing! Having grown up in Valencia, it was always fun to drive my General Lee around town. Literally every time I would fill it up with gas, I would meet someone who had worked on the show or knew someone close that did!
I have a many photos from different visits to the Valencia ranch (among other locations). I’ll have to dig them out and share a few!
It’s still very recognizable yet portions of the area where the duke farm were are largely overgrown.

My wife has been looking at the local social media sites for a dog and found a yellow lab that was 44 miles from our house and it's name is Bo Duke. When she told me about it yesterday I said "You're not going to believe this but today is John's birthday." Unfortunately we're looking for a small dog so didn't call about it.

I remember the number of elm trees the UK lost to Dutch Elm Disease, a fungus spread by elm bark beetles, in the '70s and '80s (now more than 25 million, according to Wikipedia).  I've not heard of it for years, but there probably aren't many elm trees left.

Despite the name, I can't blame Roth. The disease is believed to have originated in Asia, but was identified by Dutch scientists nearly 100 years ago.

Remember this from the end of January? I ended up getting cast in quite an iconic role from a popular Irish movie that I'd never seen before. We did the filming a couple of weeks ago in the middle of a snow storm, and then left it in the hands of what must be a very skilled editor. The awards night was held last night, which gave me chance to dress up for the evening. Our little movie was voted best picture by the audience (amongst some strong competition), so I'm going to have to get used to having my picture taken .

I'm sure everyone knows that today is St. Patrick's Day, so I went to see the local parade this afternoon. Last year, the parade clashed with an important Ireland rugby match, so numbers were down, but this year there was a good crowd until a rain shower about 10 minutes before the end. I thought Roger would like this tractor from near the back of the procession. As far as I can tell, it's from around 1950, and the company that made it is still in business in Boston (that's Boston, Lincolnshire, England - the place that Boston, Massachusetts is named after).

It also reminded me of the time that the Dukes painted the General green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

OK, that wasn't the real reason (it was in 'Southern Comfurts' to save y'all searching), but the Dukes did visit Ireland in the animated episode 'Boss O'Hogg and the Little People'.

Hey Garrett. Is fantasy NASCAR just like golf where the lowest score wins? Because if it is I have a huge lead in this thing.
