Hobie Hartkins reacted to RogerDuke in What age did everyone find The Dukes of Hazzard?
I was born the day John Schneider turned one week old so we both will be 66 next month.
I was in the USMC stationed in North Carolina after getting out of boot camp in South Carolina. A lot of young Marines were talking about it so I watched it in the recreation room. I think it was Repo Men episode but I'm not positive. Been a superfan ever since. I'm glad it came out after boot camp so I can say I actually saw a Georgia episode on the night it debuted. (the ep, not the series).
In boot camp we went 3 months without TV, radio, or a telephone.
That's so cool that you saw the original episode on the first night....even though you were little.

Hobie Hartkins reacted to floyd012010 in Hazzard Garage/ Boars Nest
Well I haven't been here in a bit. The business we opened up wound up doing very well but taking up a lot of time as well but it is what it is. Wanted to answer the question that it isn't the one in north Carolina. I live in a small town called Plainville in Georgia, its between Rome and Calhoun. The garage/boars nest im talking about is just outside of Shannon ga towards Kingston Ga. The guy has a General Lee, a 69 F350 cooters tow truck, a daisy jeep and a hazzard patrol car. The garage is awesome and the boars nest is built to the RH side of the garage. Has the correct jukebox and pinball machine as seen from the show. Even has the machine that has the huge bands that Boss Hogg was using to shake the fat away lol. It's really neat how far he has put into it as in detail. He also has a toy section and there is alot of cool stuff there too.

Hobie Hartkins reacted to RogerDuke in Bo Dukes bow, martin warthog
I wish I could help you. It's so awesome you are replicating it. I have an Excalibur Axiom crossbow but have only shot it twice. Looks nothing like anything on Dukes. It's good to hear from you again.

Hobie Hartkins reacted to floyd012010 in Bo Dukes bow, martin warthog
I purchased a martin warthog bow a year or so ago. I have been told its in very good condition but was missing some stuff. I picked up the 8 arrow quiver but I had to purchase another old bow to get it but it is the correct one at least. A friend of mine brought me s martin deerslayer sight and I put a new arrow rest on it too. Was wondering if anyone knows exactly what sight was used on the one in the show? I got the 3 pin deerslayer sight on it now and it looks good but I don't think that was the one. Definitely a cool old school wood bow. Just trying to get as close as I can to the one on the show.

Of course it counts. Any songs with one word titles are welcome. I've just been concentrating on Irish songs around St Patrick's Day.
Incidentally, Abba won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with 'Waterloo', and Christy Moore wrote 'Lisdoonvarna' for the 1978 contest, but it didn't make it through to represent Ireland.

Oh yes! NEVER drink and drive! That's something EVERYBODY can come to an agreement on! ........Something terrible may happen!........You might hit a bump in the road and spill your drink! ! ! LOl! *
* No.....that IS a good thing! I always make sure all my responsibilities are taken care of, before I commune with the spirits!

After a last minute invite, I got to walk in the St Patrick's Day parade today. It's fun being in it, but it does mean that I didn't get to see many of the other participants. Luckily, the weather stayed dry, but it turned cold afterwards. Combine the cold weather with the busy pubs and I decided to delay my Guinness.

Went from 60 degrees yesterday to 20 degrees today.
I finally figured out why some people spell it possum and some people spell it opossum. The opossum is Irish.

I watched the A-Team save a mission yesterday. And at the end I saw something amazing. Miz Tisdale hugging Mr T.
So cool! I wonder if he told her she had to take a number to get a hug.

I'm thinking that I might try a Guinness today. I mentioned ale above - have you ever tried it, Hobie. I see they sell Smithwick's in 14.9 oz cans in the US.

Well I've got to have my wife at work in McMinnville ( 2 counties over) at 7am tomorrow but I'm still going to indulge in my last three MBI ( Milwaukee's Best Ice). I was just thinking.....back when I was .....a lot less affluent than I am now, I used to buy Heineken a lot. It's my fav. beer...." Drink Heineken and you'll feel fine again!" It's a lot more expensive than domestic and blue collar beer........NOW I buy the MWB Ice a lot and couldn't tell you the last time I bought Heineken! I now understand.....when you have more money, you tend to get tighter...lol!
But hey....!! Here's one for you.....to make sure you're not going TOO tight, etc. , when you get your paycheck, etc. take a pre-set amount out for charity and set it aside. Then when you have whatever amount you feel good about, ( mine is $500), send it to a charity. I love children, so my 3 favorites are Shriners children's hospital, March of Dimes and St. Jude's Children's hospital. I alternate between those 3, when I have 500 saved in my charity envelope. Giving is a personal thing, so I'm not trying to tell anybody what to do. I'm just making a suggestion, based on my own life and how I've figured it out, to be giving and know how to balance proper giving and not rationalize my way out of it. ( " Hey! I gave some!") That way I can be generous AND Jewish all at the same time!!! LOL!!

To be honest, I'm not much of a drinker, and if I have a pint it's likely to be lager or maybe ale. I don't dislike Guinness, and it does taste different here, but I can't remember the last time I had one. My friend likes the 0.0 alcohol-free Guinness which I might try sometime since I usually have my car with me.

Hobie Hartkins reacted to HossC in One Word Song Titles
The top 100 greatest Irish songs countdown concluded today, and I said that the winner would be at least top 5 when I posted it a couple of weeks ago. Here's the top 10 along with selected others that I've posted on HNet.
1 Zombie The Cranberries 2 Nothing Compares 2 U Sinéad O'Connor 3 A Rainy Night in Soho The Pogues 4 Dreams The Cranberries 5 Take Me To Church Hozier 6 Crazy World Aslan 7 Brewing Up a Storm The Stunning 8 Killeagh Kingfishr 9 Fairytale of New York The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl 10 With or Without You U2 11 Grace The Wolfe Tones 13 Rocky Took a Lover Bell X1 14 Linger The Cranberries 16 N17 The Saw Doctors 17 Mandinka Sinéad O'Connor 41 Parachute Something Happens 44 Haunted Shane MacGowan / Sinéad O'Connor 50 Cannonball Damien Rice 52 Sarah Thin Lizzy 55 Heyday Mic Christopher 58 The Man Who Can't Be Moved The Script 60 Celebrate An Emotional Fish 77 Breathless The Corrs 83 Mary The 4 Of Us 100 Flame Bell X1 OK, so 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was written by Prince, but Sinéad O'Connor made it her own. U2 had the most entries with seven songs making the list.
As you can see, as well as coming first, The Cranberries had two other entries. For Hobie, here's the one I haven't posted before.
The Cranberries - Dreams
