To be honest, I'm not much of a drinker, and if I have a pint it's likely to be lager or maybe ale. I don't dislike Guinness, and it does taste different here, but I can't remember the last time I had one. My friend likes the 0.0 alcohol-free Guinness which I might try sometime since I usually have my car with me.3 points

After a last minute invite, I got to walk in the St Patrick's Day parade today. It's fun being in it, but it does mean that I didn't get to see many of the other participants. Luckily, the weather stayed dry, but it turned cold afterwards. Combine the cold weather with the busy pubs and I decided to delay my Guinness.2 points -

I'm thinking that I might try a Guinness today. I mentioned ale above - have you ever tried it, Hobie. I see they sell Smithwick's in 14.9 oz cans in the US.2 points -

I watched the A-Team save a mission yesterday. And at the end I saw something amazing. Miz Tisdale hugging Mr T. So cool! I wonder if he told her she had to take a number to get a hug.1 point -

Went from 60 degrees yesterday to 20 degrees today. I finally figured out why some people spell it possum and some people spell it opossum. The opossum is Irish.1 point -

Well I've got to have my wife at work in McMinnville ( 2 counties over) at 7am tomorrow but I'm still going to indulge in my last three MBI ( Milwaukee's Best Ice). I was just thinking.....back when I was .....a lot less affluent than I am now, I used to buy Heineken a lot. It's my fav. beer...." Drink Heineken and you'll feel fine again!" It's a lot more expensive than domestic and blue collar beer........NOW I buy the MWB Ice a lot and couldn't tell you the last time I bought Heineken! I now understand.....when you have more money, you tend to get tighter...lol! But hey....!! Here's one for you.....to make sure you're not going TOO tight, etc. , when you get your paycheck, etc. take a pre-set amount out for charity and set it aside. Then when you have whatever amount you feel good about, ( mine is $500), send it to a charity. I love children, so my 3 favorites are Shriners children's hospital, March of Dimes and St. Jude's Children's hospital. I alternate between those 3, when I have 500 saved in my charity envelope. Giving is a personal thing, so I'm not trying to tell anybody what to do. I'm just making a suggestion, based on my own life and how I've figured it out, to be giving and know how to balance proper giving and not rationalize my way out of it. ( " Hey! I gave some!") That way I can be generous AND Jewish all at the same time!!! LOL!!1 point -

The top 100 greatest Irish songs countdown concluded today, and I said that the winner would be at least top 5 when I posted it a couple of weeks ago. Here's the top 10 along with selected others that I've posted on HNet. 1 Zombie The Cranberries 2 Nothing Compares 2 U Sinéad O'Connor 3 A Rainy Night in Soho The Pogues 4 Dreams The Cranberries 5 Take Me To Church Hozier 6 Crazy World Aslan 7 Brewing Up a Storm The Stunning 8 Killeagh Kingfishr 9 Fairytale of New York The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl 10 With or Without You U2 11 Grace The Wolfe Tones 13 Rocky Took a Lover Bell X1 14 Linger The Cranberries 16 N17 The Saw Doctors 17 Mandinka Sinéad O'Connor 41 Parachute Something Happens 44 Haunted Shane MacGowan / Sinéad O'Connor 50 Cannonball Damien Rice 52 Sarah Thin Lizzy 55 Heyday Mic Christopher 58 The Man Who Can't Be Moved The Script 60 Celebrate An Emotional Fish 77 Breathless The Corrs 83 Mary The 4 Of Us 100 Flame Bell X1 OK, so 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was written by Prince, but Sinéad O'Connor made it her own. U2 had the most entries with seven songs making the list. As you can see, as well as coming first, The Cranberries had two other entries. For Hobie, here's the one I haven't posted before. Like The Blizzards (above), brothers Frank and Seán O'Meara are from Mullingar. They wrote this song based on the true story of Grace Gifford's marriage to Joseph Plunkett in Kilmainham Gaol. Plunkett was one of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising, and was executed by the British just hours after the wedding. It's a heart-wrenching and poignant ballad that's a bit different to the songs I've posted recently. The Wolfe Tones - Grace1 point -

I posted another song by Bell X1 in the One Word Song Titles thread recently, but I heard this one today and it has too many words in the title for that thread. I known and liked it for a while, but never knew what it was about. According to the band, they used to see a man in his late-50s sleeping rough in Dublin. One day he had a female companion, and they invented this backstory for him. Bell X1 - Rocky Took A Lover Here's when they performed it live on Letterman in 2008.1 point -

Sorry, Hobie. I missed this comment. From what I've read, they picked their name from a selection of six because it was ambiguous and open to interpretation. Bono got his nickname from Bonavox, a hearing aid shop in Dublin (it's Latin for "good voice"). Bono and The Edge walk into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, "Oh no, not U2 again!". The British band UB40 took their name from Unemployment Benefit Form 40.0 points
