Because I'm still close to the UK, I'm usually identified as English, and that's fine with me (although I didn't celebrate St George's Day on Thursday!). My nationality is British, and that's probably how I'd be known further from home where people aren't so familiar with the differences between the Home Nations.

Thank you Roger and Hobie! You made my day . They'll be racing at Talladega this weekend. Sadly I'll be out so I won't watch it, but I'll be rooting on #9 as always!

They're virtually unknown over here, and so far I've only seen them at this show. The guy goes by the name 'Cranky Yankee'. I've just checked his Facebook page, and apparently he'll be closer to where I live a couple of times over the summer.

Why Are The British So Eccentric In War? That's the question posed in this video. It tells the story of why you can always make tea in a British tank, and of the soldier who went into battle in Operation Market Garden (the failed attempt to take the bridge in Arnhem as dramatized in the movie 'A Bridge Too Far') with an umbrella.

I was back a the American car show today. I don't go every year as it can get repetitive, but there were a good number of cars this year that I hadn't seen before including a recent Challenger Hellcat and Charger Scatpack that had travelled all the way from Poland. From TV, there were two or three KITTs, one with the full dashboard makeover and a couple of Starsky and Hutch Torinos. Not American, but designed for the American market, there was a row of five Deloreans, some with flux capacitors. I avoided the usual food offerings of burger and chips and took the opportunity to have another corn dog! With good weather, it was very busy this year, so the food queues were ridiculous. I thought I was going to be out of luck Dukes-wise until I made my second tour and spotted a General Lee. It's not the same as the one above. The owner has had it for 19 years, has been to Dukesfest and visited the filming sites. He let me sit in for a photo and showed me the signed knee pad under the steering wheel which came from a screen-used car. He also had both sun visors signed by cast and crew.

Doesn't really matter what time to me. Thank you for all you do MM. As a low tech person I have no idea how much time you have put into this labor of love since 1999 but I am sure it is an unimaginable number of hours. It is appreciated and you are loved.

British English often comes with subtext and inferred meanings whereas American English tends to be more direct. Here's a video by an American who's been living in the UK for a while. In it, she describes some of the phrases that initially confused her.

  20. This is easy for me to remember because my Dad was born on April 14 and I was born on April 15. Also, Abraham Lincoln was shot on April 14 and died after midnight on April 15. My love and condolences to you and your family Skipper.

  30. Nice photos, Hoss! Magnum, PI was one of my favorite shows so I was excited to see the Ferrari. A lawyer in my hometown had a 308 in the late 80's. I got to see it often on my drive to school since his practice was right near the high school.

Yes, it does. I nearly pointed it out in my original post. Here's how the car looked in the movie. Although I didn't get to see a Hazzard patrol car, there were a couple of police cars this year. This one had a sign on the rear fender saying "To Protect and Cruise" ... ... while this one said "To Punish and Enslave" .

  32. Sounds like great fun, Hoss. It's been a long time since I've been to a car show. My dad used to take me a lot when I was younger. And then there were Cruisin' 50's nights every Friday in the summer. Fun times.

About three years ago, the All American Car, Truck & Bike Show moved from September to April, and I missed it! Then it seemed to clash with other events, so this is the first time I've been back since 2010. I saw pictures of one of the shows I missed in a magazine, and there was a Hazzard patrol car there. Sadly, it wasn't there this year. The General Lee was also absent, but one of the late arrivals was this yellow Road Runner just like Daisy drove in the early episodes. NB. I don't know any of the people in the pictures - it was virtually impossible getting shots without someone in the way! There was also a very clean 1973 Ford F-100 that would have suited Uncle Jesse if it had been white instead of blue, and a white Cadillac convertible that turned out to be a 1965 model (the interior was similar to Boss' even though it was red). Luckily, there were plenty of other cars I hadn't seen before, including this pair of Starsky and Hutch Gran Torinos complete with lights and sirens. One of my other favorites was this Vanishing Point Challenger. As well as the burnouts, they also used a pair of big rigs (it was a Mack and Ford for anyone who's interested) to rip a couple of compact cars apart. I nearly forgot - after seeing people eat them in movies and TV shows for years, I had my first corn dog today. We might have imported McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks etc., but it's the first time I've seen corn dogs for sale over here (the guy selling them was from Minnesota, and he wasn't aware of any other sellers). Now I've got to get me a chili dog and some grits .

I'm still really big into pro dirt bikes. Saturday they raced in Cleveland Browns stadium. That's the closest they'll get to me this year but I didn't go. It rained all day so I'm kinda glad I didn't go.
