Skipper Duke
"Marooned (Unaired Pilot)" Air Date: October 16, 1992 Written By: Sherwood Schwartz, Austin Kalish (uncredited), Elroy Schwartz Directed By: Rod Amateau Bob Denver as Gilligan Alan Hale, Jr. as The Skipper Jim Backus as Mr. Howell Natalie Schafer as Mrs. Howell Kit Smythe as Ginger Nancy McCarthy as Bunny John Gabriel as The Professor Trivia: There are noted differences between this unaired pilot and the series' episodes. This cast of this episode differed from the cast of the series with John Gabriel playing the Professor, and the girls replaced by two secretaries named Ginger and Bunny played by, respectively, Kit Smythe and Nancy McCarthy. All the regular roles, however, remain intact. Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale, Jr. as the Skipper, Jim Backus as Mr. Howell and Natalie Schafer as Mrs. Howell. Portions of the pilot turn up in the episode, Birds Gotta Fly, Fish Gotta Talk with a newly revised ending. Instead of the well-known Gilligan's Island theme song, this episode opens with a Calypso-style tune. Skipper Duke
Two on a Raft Air Date: September 26, 1964 Written By: Lawrence J. Cohen and Fred Freeman Directed By: John Rich Guest Cast: None Main Cast Bob Denver as Gilligan Alan Hale, Jr. as The Skipper Jim Backus as Mr. Howell Natalie Schafer as Mrs. Howell Tina Louise as Ginger Dawn Wells as Mary Ann Russell Johnson as The Professor Guest Cast Charles Maxwell as the Radio Announcer (voice only) Kit Smythe as Ginger (cameo) Nancy McCarthy as Bunny (cameo) John Gabriel as The Professor (cameo) Trivia First appearance of "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" sung by The Wellingtons. In the opening credits, the S.S. Minnow shown before the cruise is different from the version beaching on the island after the storm. There is no upper deck above the windows where the helm is, and the front of the cabin is straight rather than pointed.. When the Skipper wakes up, the original actors from the pilot can be seen still sleeping on the Minnow. In the scenes where the castaways are listening to the radio, the Professor is sitting with the others in the far shots but standing in the close-ups. When the Skipper and Gilligan finish fighting off the sharks, the Skipper's hat falls off his head and into the water right in the path of one of the sharks, and yet, in the next shot, the hat is back on the Skipper's head. By the time this episode aired, it was the most expensive pilot ever filmed due to the fake sharks and break-away raft. (Wiki)

Skipper Duke
By Horseback, Hitchhike, Airplane and Taxi Getting Alan Hale Jr., to audition for the role of the Skipper was a major feat. At the time, Hale was filming Bullet for a Badman in Utah. He received the casting call for the role of the Skipper but had to try and figure out how he was going to get there, without being missed on the Bullet set. Hale made his way to Los Angeles to read a scene with Bob Denver via horseback, hitchhiking, airplane, and taxi cab. He reversed the process after the audition and made it back to Utah just in time to resume filming his western the next day. Schwartz had auditioned several actors for the role, but no one fit the bill like Hale.
