It was longer than 500 years. The Vikings originally invaded Ireland in 795AD. but the Normans took over starting in 1169AD. Does that mean that the Steelers are representing the Normans in this battle?

I don't know but did you hear about the Steelers back up QB Skyler Thompson getting mugged and injured? I knew you shouldn't have let those Vikings come back. I doubt an Irishman would have done such a dirty deed. Do you know if they have a suspect? If I was a mugger I believe I would pass on a guy big enough to play in the NFL.

Vikings are reported to have reached Newfoundland via Iceland and Greenland in 1021AD.

I had heard that Celtic Runes were found as far over as Colorado, predating the America " Indian" ( notice the quotes) by hundreds of years. I was just hoping to find a specific date or site, to  confirm it. Thanks!

I heard that a player had been robbed, but not who it was until after I saw your post. Sadly, there seems to be a trend of attacks in Dublin at the moment. An English tourist was stabbed (but survived) in the same area last week. I don't know if they've caught anyone or announced the nationality of the attackers. By all accounts the NFL game was a success, so it's such a shame that it was marred by an incident like this.

Roger, I assume you were happy with the result at the weekend. Was there much made of the game being played in Ireland in the US media?

It definitely got a lot of attention here in western Pennsylvania. On a national scale the games in Europe are big news in the sports world but rarely beyond sports stories. However, ABC Nightly News and others covered the mugging. They didn't speculate on whether the suspect  was Irish or not but other news outlets speculated that he wasn't.

It seems that the Gardai (Irish police) never received any reports in relation to the alleged assault and robbery. It's being rumored that the NFL didn't want to make a big issue out of it.

The NFL putting profits ahead of justice. Nothing new.
