New WB project is Dukes movie?

Recommended Posts

Here we go again! This is hot off the press from the Hollywood Reporter. As of this time we have zero confirmation about this WB/Jody Hill project actually being a Dukes of Hazzard movie. But we can't ignore the possibility.

Back when the rumors started for the 2005 Dukes movie, (maybe it was 2003 at the time) and Britany Spears was being considered for Daisy, we were the first Dukes website with the dirt. So in that fine tradition of rumor, speculation and no-holds-barred reckless reporting, we're passing this along.

See the homepage article and HR link here.

Feel welcome to add your thoughts!

I just commented on H-net's facebook about it. After reading the article, I think a redo of Moonrunners might come out of it or maybe something similar if it ever gets that far. Still vague until the movie is actually written.

I know all the bashing and trashing the 2005 movie is gonna begin so I am excusing myself from all that.

I'm gone

I hope they do make another Dukes movie. The clue that stands out to me, is that the story is talking place in the 1970's. I'm not sure if they'll call this Dukes or if it'll be sort of a prequel story. But dating the story like this would allow them to be more true to the original series in look and feel.

Some of the attempts to modernize the show, even in the TV reunion movies with the original cast, always felt a little weird. I dunno about ya'll but seeing a fax machine in the Dukes farmhouse was weird. Seeing Rosco use an ATM was weird. The 2005 movie (not bashing, just saying) was again, for me....weird.

If Warner Bros goes for this as a Dukes movie, I'll be all for it, and I'm willing to bet it blows the roof off the box office. Heck, I hope they put Bubba Watson in the movie as Luke Duke.

If it is a Dukes movie, I will make my dad take me to the midnight showing. I would be in heaven. It'll also hopefully get more people into Dukes of Hazzard.

I couldn't imagine who would work for the characters. It would be so hard to choose. Though I'll say I could be Daisy with my brown hair and stuff. BUT I wear glasses and don't really do heals since I'm flat footed. And don't act. I'm shy when it comes to people and doing weird stuff. I couldn't do it. But it will still be in my daydreams.:)

I hope if they are doing Dukes, they don't choose a blond for Daisy... and I REALLY hope they don't mess Bo and Luke up like they did before... and I hope they pick some good lookin' guys for them too... and stick with the morals the Dukes had. I mean, Uncle Jesse and the boys doing Pot? It just doesn't stay true to the show.

Hopefully they can get it right this time.

*wishful thinking* Hope that if it is a Dukes movie that they keep it true to the original....and if its not Dukes I hope that it will be a good movie....that they follow the example the Dukes set.....stick with the morals the Dukes had(great post countrygirl).

Thanks Brian keep us posted! :)

What I think MAY work well would be to take the exisiting original cast and give them small, tiny even itty bitty parts, but use the cast that is still around and do (like I've seen Dallas doing) a next generation show, but using faces we know to get you involved with the new ones.

Base it on family and morals that the Dukes we love had, and the lessons they learned along the way being passed down (But like life-- maybe not always taken by the younger ones -- at least until it is too late.)

There is enough original cast out there, use them don't ignore them -- they made the show what it was!

That's my 2 cents!

David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser had cameos in the 2004 Starsky and Hutch movie, as did Dwight Schultz and Dirk Benedict in the 2010 A-Team movie, so there is a precedent for the original stars to appear in remakes. Having said that, it would need to be much better script than the last two Dukes movies to entice any of our favorites back (just my opinion, obviously).

IF it is a Dukes movie where are they gonna get Chargers? They sold or auctioned off most of the ones they had and I don't think anyone wants to see "good" Chargers get destroyed. That means CGI or miniatures to do any kind of jumps and even as good as CGI is getting it still looks "fake" if you know what I mean. I agree to it has to be TRUE to the TV series with all the morals and so forth. Not a parody movie like the last 2 were.I know they weren't promoted as a parodies of Dukes but most of us will agree in reality that's basically what they were and I could have accepted them better if they(Warner Brothers) would have admitted that to begin with. I also agree that the original cast should be involved in doing this project and have cameos and to make sure it is done right.

I agree with much that's already been said by ya'll. In comment to TimDuke's post, they could get around the Charger thing if the story was more "prequel" in nature.

For me it's hard to imagine Bo and Luke driving anything else, but depending what timeline is involved, they could show the Dukes driving some other car. Whatever they were driving when they got busted for hauling moonshine would have been confiscated anyhow.

And if you go strictly off the episode of "Happy Birthday General Lee", the General entered their lives some point after the moonshine hauling days were done.

Sorry Brian if there is no General Lee and a totally different car, there is no point in even writing a script IMO. It's not gonna fly with most of us(no pun intended). I wouldn't go see a Dukes movie if there is no General Lee, prequel or how they would explain it. The car was too integral to the original show.

I'd prefer to see a "known universe" take on the Dukes that included the General Lee. Certainly it would be a better draw at the box office as the General is the most highly recognized car in the world. But I think there's a lot of storytelling that could be done in a prequel setting, and that would solve the logistics of whereinthehelldowegetmoreGeneralLeesfrom.

Ya know, in this modern movie world of reoccuring explosions, teen almost-porn, sequels up the wazoo and remakes of movies less than 10 years old...I could stand ANYTHING that reminded me of the Dukes and the country culture the original series illustrated.
