I thought I'd start a thread to thank all the veterans who have worked hard and sacrificed to keep our country safe. So please feel free to leave a message thanking all our veterans, leave a thank you to a specific veteran, or leave a memorial. Show them we appreciate them.

Thank you, grandpa, for your 30 years of service in the Marine Corps, and especially your service during WWII. I miss you.

Thank you to my Grandfather whom fought in WW2. Thank you to my brother-in-law and cousin whom fought in Iraq. Thank you to a host of uncles who fought in the Korean and Vietnam war. And most importantly, thank you to ALL veterans, for allowing us to stay a free country and get a peaceful sleep at night. May God Bless the families of those who have served, passed, and who are serving.

I'd like to thank my two grandfathers who were in WWII. I also have a 2nd cousin who was in the army, and continued to work with them in a civilian role afterwards. With any luck we'll never be called up and have to experience what these people went through.

Today is Armistice Day/Remembrance Day, and over here a two minute silence was observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to commemorate the end of the First World War, and to remember those who gave their lives in all wars. Here is the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae that inspired the annual poppy campaign:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

We've had a little silk poppy and that poem (which I memorized in elementary school) on one of the bulletin boards at work for years.

I would also like to remember my maternal grandfather who was a navy frogman in WWII, as well as many of my co-workers who are Vietnam vets, Iraq vets, and active duty military.
