pendragon1980
I read more than one fandom, several genres actually. But I just want to say I am constantly impressed by the quality of writing on Hazzardnet. Unfortunately most fanfiction I find in other genres read like written by rabid fangirls (and most are), but Dukes of Hazzard seems to have acquired a singular quality of fanfiction that rare to find. Keep up the good work, y'all.
MaryAnne
I'll second that!
Meadowmufn
I know what you mean, pendragon, re: the fangirls. We do have a good core of writers that take pride in their work and strive to get better with every story they craft. Lots of talent here. BoJamesDuke
Completly agree on both points!! Dukes of Hazzard is by far the best fandom i've ever written in, and I think its because the show has so many loop holes that makes it possible for those who only like to play with original characters the oppertunites to play with how the Dukes came about. For instance, we never knew how Bo and Luke actually got caught shine running if they were such good drivers, we never knew exactly who Jesse's wife was - Martha or Lavinia. We never knew exactly why Luke hit Bo round the head with a baseball bat when they were kids, how LAvinia's passing affected them, how Luke came to join the Marines and exactly what he did and what he went through, how they each decided to leave the farm to follow their futures. Equally, their futures with families are left completly open ended. Not everything is completly sewn together in Dukes and that's what makes fan fiction in that fandom possible. No one can pick your story apart for being factually wrong because there are hardly any guidelines to go by. I respect most fan fic writers on this site greatly and its interesting to read what other people think would happen or have happened to our beloved characters. Thanks for starting this thread Pen Dragon, there's been loads of negative comments flung around about fan fic and round robins here, but very few that actually celebrated the work and pride that goes into some of these stories for all involved which is a sad thing.Fan Fic writers of Hazzardnet, I salute you! MaryAnne
BoJames, ya hit it right on the head. The "loopholes" and what authors do with those loopholes, and the fact that nobody can really critize you for attempting to fill in the backstory or take the characters in a particular direction is what sets us apart from some other fandoms, I think. I can't say I've ever really seen anyone bash another writer around here for creating a storyline that attempts to fill in that backstory of the Duke family (and storylines that take them beyond what we saw between 1979 and 1985. LOL). There's many possibilities and it's interesting to see what people come up with. There's a different atmosphere and collective mentality here. It's more positive and encouarging. We don't trash each other's characters, or storylines. We try to give honest constructive feedback. We did have that blow up about the RRs but only because we care about what we put out there. I've written stories in a couple of other fandoms but I always come home to Hazzard. (And in the case of one of the other fandoms I brought somebody back with me. ROFL)

Keep up the good work, y'all.I'd like you to keep up the good work too! You're a very emotive writer. I really think the medical industry's gain was writing's loss. I agree with what everybody's been saying here. Nobody on HazzardNet claims to be writing for Masterpiece Theater, but everybody who writes, cares about their work. Once in a great while there's an issue, though when you look at the par for the course, things have gone well. I've watched many people improve their writing and communication skills through fanfic and through AIM role plays, and HNet forums RR's. It's fantastic. We need to have another fanfic challenge, I'm thinkin'.

RogerDuke
In the meantime, things are really getting scary on the "Mystery in Hazzard Swamp" thread......just in time for Halloween. Waylon says that we always have happy endings in Hazzard but I'm starting to wonder if old Jesse and his nephew are going to make it out of this one alive. DaneyDuke
Yes Roger, you and Garrett are doing a fine job. It can be really exciting to see new author combinations here at Hnet too. Keep up the good work & thank y'all!

Garrett Duke
Thanks Pendragon and everyone else that posted here. You all are very talented writers that I could learn from! I agree with all that has said about DOH fan-fic writers and about the loop holes in the show that gives areas for writers to work with. There is a lot of options that we are given and are taken. It is great to see all the creative ways that writers have used the loop holes that were mentioned and see how others view Hazzard and their characters. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and postive. Hnet is a great place to be with a lot of great friends that I have met over the years while I've been here. Thanks y'all! Thanks Daney! And Roger...I plan on having Jesse's nephew making out of the swamp alive and seeing on how Jesse's nephew will refuse to leave the swamp without Jesse, am willing to bet Jesse will too. Val Strate
I have to agree, Hnet is pretty awesome on quality. It makes ya want to write when you read the quality of work that we have, and the stories are based off of a 'real-world' genre show, which gives a good feel to things. I lately have been getting writers-itch and I'm thinking about scratching it, but I don't want to commit to anything because I always end up screwing it up if I do, if ya know what I mean. I've been writing stuff as of late in notebooks and stuff during class, but thats bout it. I have a terrible habit of not finishing things like stories... Just leave off at some random cliff-hanger cause I can't decide how to end it. That's the downside of being morally opposed to making a plan for writing. Then I just kinda let the muses go wherever, occasionally rein 'em back in, sometimes write myself into a corner, bust out of said corner, skip over large parts of the story, then go back and patch it, finish it, polish it and post it! It's a wonder I ever finish a fic. LOL

Yeah, they work, sometimes... but I found alot of times the muse likes coloring outside the lines anyway. So.... there goes the outline. However, you are right MA. They are a good tool, technically speakin'. And who can forget spell check. That's how I learned to right, write. (Yes, I did that on purpose). waikiki23
Outlines??!! Wow, not me! I just come up with an idea and play it over and over in my head then write it down. I'm getting better about finishing my stories and I am so proud! I love writing DoH, despite the fact that I am in the middle of my first two! texasdaisy09
This is really off topic, but I had to take my oldest son to the emergancy room today. They believe he has strep. They also believe that it might have already gotten worse and it might require going to see a specialist for his lymph nodes.(not sure how to spell that). I would sure appreciate any prayers. Thank ya'll and God bless.
