I heard John Schneider on  the General's P.A. system, driving through town, a few years ago. This guy here in Sparta owns a General and they seem to be buddies!

That would be so awesome to hear! I remember watching a race back in Gordon/Johnson was racing . . . they were at Atlanta and John Schneider was the Grand Marshall. I got super excited. He needs to do it again. HA.

I'm still irritated that the local news didn't mention the Petty boys were coming. Maybe they were worried the crowd would be too big. I see King Richard is 87....hard to believe.

When I went years ago, it doesn't seem like it was very well advertised. I heard it at the last minute and was lucky enough to go. Makes you wonder if it's on them and it's their way of saving money? IDK. When I went, I don't think Richard Petty was there. It was just Kyle Petty and a bunch of guys I didn't know. LOL. It was neat and odd at the same time. LOL

It was at a truck stop. It's the biggest truck stop around (Interstate 90) but it's still a truck stop with limited room so maybe they don't want too many people.

Yeah when they came to my area it was at a mall. So I'm sure space was limited as well. They handed out bandanas. I think I still have it.

Apologies for the lateness of my F1 review - I've had a busy week! Here's what happened at last weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Italy.

The McLarens looked to have the pace all through the three free practice sessions, but could only manage first and fourth on the grid (Oscar Piastri ahead of Lando Norris). They were split by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the Mercedes of George Russell. Neither Ferrari made it into the top 10, which disappointed their fans so close to their factory. The other Mercedes driver, 18-year-old rookie Kimi Antonelli, grew up near the track and had invited many friends and family to the race, but could only qualify 13th.

Oscar made a good start, but Max got around him almost immediately. Lando had to wait until lap 11 to pass George and set off after his team mate. Oscar pitted early, and then Lando pitted just before Esteban Ocon's car pulled off to retire from the race, bringing out a virtual safety car. That gave Max and many others an easy pit stop and shook up the order. Lewis Hamilton, who'd been stuck behind Kimi since the start, finally managed to pass him on lap 34, and continued to make progress through the field. Sadly for his local fans, Kimi had to retire on lap 46. That brought out a full safety car which allowed for more easy pit stops for some. Max held the lead at the restart and went on to win the race. Behind him, Lando and Lewis each overtook their team mates on track. Charles Leclerc briefly passed Alex Albon, but his team told him to give the place back to avoid a penalty as he pushed Alex off the road to make the move. At the flag, the top 10 were:

1 Max Verstappen
2 Lando Norris
3 Oscar Piastri
4 Lewis Hamilton
5 Alexander Albon
6 Charles Leclerc
7 George Russell
8 Carlos Sainz Jnr
9 Isack Hadjar
10 Yuki Tsunoda

Lewis said it was the first time he felt at home in the Ferrari after joining the team at the start of the season.

You can see the race highlights here.

This weekend we're off to the historic Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo.

Hey Hoss, no worries! You keep us up to date on stuff and between you and Garrett.....you guys help us stay up on everything!

Thank you Hobie :) . I haven't done very well as of late, I feel.

The biggest race of the NASCAR season is Sunday night at the Coca Cola 600 in Charolotte. Last season, Christopher Bell won it. Kyle Larson will being going for the double header for the second year in a row. Racing Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600 for 1,100 miles in one day. Or try. Last year's run was ran a little short due to rain and having to make from track to track in a shortened time span. Justin Allgaier started the Coca Cola race last year for Larson before Larson took over the 5 NASCAR car.  Kyle Larson's quest to complete 1,100 miles, Part II | NASCAR

I miss the older days where this was the house that Jimmie Johnson built. Well he didn't build Charolette, but he was good there. Hendrick cars run good here so I am hopeful for the number 9 car of Chase Elliott to have a good run at it...

Thank you Hoss for keeping us updated on F1. You do a great job at it.

This weekend's Monaco Grand Prix is seen as a halo event, mainly due to its long history, glamor, and the demanding nature of the tight street circuit right on the shoreline of the wealthy principality. However, the tight nature makes overtaking very difficult, which can lead to boring races. F1 rules usually mandate that two different tire compounds are used during a race (Pirelli bring "soft", "medium" and "hard" tires to each race chosen from six different compounds to best suit the likely wear expected at the circuit), meaning at least one pit stop. At last year's race there was a bad crash on the first lap which brought out a red flag. Most of the field used their enforced time in the pits to fit hard tires which lasted until the end of the race (lower speeds a Monaco mean lower tire wear). The top ten cars finished in exactly the same order in which they started. You can see the highlights (I use the term loosely) of the race here.

To try to avoid a repeat of this, teams will still have to use two tire compounds during the race at Monaco, but they have to make at least two pit stops this year. Time will tell if this makes any difference.

Local driver and last year's winner, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, has been fastest in the first two practice sessions, with the McLarens also looking quick.

Qualifying proved to be very tight, with positions changing right up to the end. Charles Leclerc looked to have bettered the McLarens until Lando Norris set a new lap record to take pole. The top five for tomorrow's race are:

1. Lando Norris - McLaren
2. Charles Leclerc - Ferrari
3. Oscar Piastri - McLaren
4. Max Verstappen - Red Bull
5. Isack Hadjar - RB

You can see the highlights here. NB. The video shows that Lewis Hamilton qualified in fourth, but he was later demoted to seventh for impeding Max in Q1.

You can see the pole lap from Lando's cockpit here. I've probably mentioned in previous years that the teams have to fit the cars with special steering racks to get around the hairpin at Monaco.
