Bo shook his head, looking down at his boots.

"Ain't fun...ain't no fun at all.."

Luke shook his head not taking his blue eyes off of his cousin. It wasn't any fun...in fact it was as far from fun as fun could be...

Bo didn't move for sometime, swallowing gently before he leant back again a little while later.

Luke reached out his hand, the one with the scar across its pal, and placed it over Bo's. "I had to go..." he began uneasily, knowing it was still a hard memory for them both.

Bo nodded, closing his eyes a little as he did

"I know ya did...I understand..."

"Didn't make my leavin' any easier though...did it?" He asked it as a question but it was stated like a fact. They both knew the answer.

Bo shook his head softly, blonde curls shining in the fading sunlight.

Luke nodded. "S'why I hoped...us being blood brothers...would help..." he offered tracing the scar on Bo's upturned palm.

Bo swallowed and softly wrapped his hand around Luke's thumb, not quite such an easy feat as when he was a kid and his little hands could do it no problem.

"It did...to a degree but...it wasn't the same.."

Feeling Bo's hand wrap around his thumb caused Luke to swallow. It seemed only yesterday....

***flashback****

Bo turned and ran furiously out the house, slamming the door behind him as he did, tears streaking down his young cheeks as he walked straight to the barn.

Luke watched him go swallowing hard. He knew that his family would be shocked at his news that he had joined the Marines. He didn't expect Bo to leave as soon as the words had left his mouth.

Sighing he looked at the faces of Daisy and his Uncle. "Will someone say somethin?" he pleaded.

Jesse took a deep breath, nodding a little before stepping forwards and putting his hands on Luke's shoulders, squeezing them gently.

"Luke...as much as I hate the thought of one of my youngin's goin' through what your gonna...I'm very proud of you son..."

Daisy swallowed having seen her cousin transform from boy to man in front of her. "I'll miss you Luke," she offered softly.

"I'll miss you too..I'll miss y'all..." he murmured. "I...I best go talk to Bo...I...I might be a while..." he added knowingly.

Jesse nodded gently before pulling Luke into a hug, rubbing his back a little.

"Jus' don't get upset with him...its gonna be hard on him...harder than for any of us..."

Luke nodded pulling away from him and walking to the barn, his head down tears in his eyes he refused to let fall.

Bo was huddled in the hayloft in his favourite hidden corner, tears falling as he sobbed quietly.

Luke swallowed hearing the quiet sobs. Slowly he climbed the ladder to the loft, the rungs creaking softly. "Bo?"

Bo didn't answer, turning away from the ladder as he heard Luke coming up.

"Go away...its obviously what you want to do..."

Luke swallowed making his way up the ladder the rest of teh way sitting down next to his cousin. "Ain't what I wanna do Bo....'swhat I gotta do."

Bo turned more away from Luke as the older boy sat next to him, wiping the tears away angrily from his cheeks even though he knew Luke had seen them, not answering.

"Bo...." began Luke. He knew this was going to hurt the family, but he never relized how much Bo would be affected. "Bo...please at least say somethin..."

"Like what?!"

Bo asked angrily, the pain and sadness clear in his voice as it mixed with anger.

"What do you want me to say? You want me to say i'm glad your leaving? Want me to promise you i'll be alright, that I wont miss ya so much, that I dont care?!"

"That you understand..." said Luke softly.

"Well I don't alright! I dont understand why you want to go out there willingly and get yourself killed!"

Bo yelled back at him, getting up and moving to the other side of the hayloft.
