Bo however, as before wasn't listening as he was too absorbed in his task. It wasn't until he looked up and found Luke gone and the door wide open that he noticed. Getting up onto his feet, dropping the plastic toys he had been using, he hurried towards the door, calling for Luke as he started to get a little frightened as the wind blew hard and the dark outside faced him.

"Heck Hughie Hogg can't pull off a dry look either...he's still as ugly as a possum's fanny," said Luke "Course....I should't be so mean t the poor possum," he added.

Luke pretended to take a whiff of him. "Coulda fooled me...ya smell like ya live in there with her..." he teased, a half-grin on his face.

"S'only because I's been hangin' round with you...your smell rubs off on me..." replies with a smirk of his own.

Luke held the door from behind with both hands using all his strength to push it closed when he heard what sounded like Bo...and he sounded scared...or hurt. Quickly leaving the door, Luke hurried to the barn seeing Bo calling as loud as he could from the entrance.

"BO!" he yelled. "GET INSIDE!" With all his strength he grabbed the door from the front and was pulling it back to shut when the wind blew so forcefully it blew the old door right off the hinges, taking the slim boy right along with it as thunder boomed and shook the barn, lightning streaking across the sky.

Luke was nowhere to be found.

Bo cried out as he saw Luke disappear, ignoring Luke's warnings and battling his way through the wind and rain into the yard to try and find his older cousin. Tears mingled with the rain as the little boy could barely see his hand in front of his face and the cold was getting to him incredibly quickly.

He kept calling Luke's name desperatly, not knowing which way to go or where he was heading to such was the dark that blinded him.

Jesse soon came out of the house with the lantern not at all liking the state he found things in. The barn door had blown clean off. "Boys?" he called goin into the barn, seeing Bo's toys on the floor. "Boys?" He didn't see them anywhere in the barn.

Luke, meanwhile lay with the barn door slightly covering him, a trickle of blood coming from his temple. He wasn't moving.

Bo however didn't hear Uncle Jesse calling them, having wandered in completly the wrong direction and into the back fields. The little six year old boy was lost and now terrified of everything around him.

Swallowing he jumped as he bumped into something and fell to the ground, peering through the darkness as best he could as he whimpered out his Uncle's name, hoping it was him or Luke. He soon let out a scream though that was lost in the wind, as lightning illuminated the figure and he found himself looking up at a scarecrow. Scrambling to his feet, Bo ran in any direction he could, his breathing getting worse but not stopping to wait for that thing he had run into to get him.

Before he knew what was happening, Bo had tumbled down a long slope and lay sobbing and shaking on the floor in the mud, freezing cold and scared out of his mind...his chest getting tighter.

Lavinia crossed to Luke quickly as she heard Luke call for her from the couch, sitting next to him and soothing a hand gently through his hair, signalling the Doc over.

"I know baby...I know..its alright though.."

  • Author

Lavinia nodded softly, keeping Luke gently still so the Doc could look him over

"I know you did...its alright Luke baby..."

Bo swallowed, barely able to breath and shaking with wet and cold in the little mud hole he was in, hearing his Uncle shouting his name. He opened his mouth and called out weakly

"Unca...Je..Jes..Jesse..."

Jesse heard the faint whisper and rushed in the direction it came from. He soon held Bo cradled in his arms. "Bo...Bo baby...I'm here..."

Luke huddled against his aunt tears streaking his face. "I can't get warm..."

Bo didn't even have the energy to lift his arms and hug Jesse back, shock starting to set in as he gripped his little empty inhaler in his hands, having used it all night to keep himself breathing through the cold and panic.

Lavinia hugged him close, wrapping all the blankets around him again

"It'll be alright.."

Jesse gathered the little boy close in his arms, wrapping him in the blankets he'd brought along with him. "I gotcha son...your uncle Jesse's gotcha..." Holding the barely-breathing boy close, Jesse ran as fast as he could back to the farm.

Luke meanwhile was crying near hysterics, knowing from what he heard that the storm was still raging and that Bo was still out in it.

At that moment, Jesse came rushing in. "Doc!" Carefully he laid Bo on the couch Luke had been on, leaving quickly to go get his other inhaler.

Luke whimpered at the sight Bo, so pale and lifeless. "Auntie...."

Bo moaned a little, quietly as Jesse put the inhaler into his mouth and breathed in what little of the medicine he could.

The doc shook his head and looked to Jesse

"He needs to go to the hospital..."

Half hour later, Daisy was at the farm under the watchful and ever helpful eye of Miz Tisdale. Luke, by turns, couldn't edge himself away from his aunt and was cuddled in his aunt's lap as they sat in the room watching Bo.

Jesse sighed looking at his youngest-no matter how many times they had been to the hospital for Bo, it never got easier.

Bo hadn't moved, besides the trembling of his body and his weakly rising chest, from the spot on the couch, eyes closed.

Lavinia was still holding Luke close, leaning against Jesse as they waited anxiously for the ambulance to arrive, the Doc sitting by Bo, helping out as much as she could.

They wre all at the hospital an hour later. Daisy cuddled in her uncles lap and Luke, by turns, couldn't tear himself away from his aunt. The whole family surrounde Bo's bed watching the oxygen enter s small body.

Jesse shook his had gently running a hand through Bo's hair. He was so frail...so little.

Bo looked even smaller than usual in the hospital bed that near engulfed him, many tubes and wires running from that little body.

Lavinia was sat with Luke, rocking him gently as she had been since all this had happened, much for her own comfort as for Lukes.

Luke refused to look at Bo anymore. He was so scared... scared that at any moment another family member he had allowed himself to grow to love would be taken from him.

The doctor had by this time come in and was busily writing on Bo's chart.
