Luke bit his lip. "Why do they wanna stick ya with needles? Don't ya feel good?"

"I feel fine...but they won't listen to me...they stick me with needles an' then hook me up to wierd machines..."

He said quietly, freezing as he heard footsteps start to come back.

"But if you're sick...ya should let em help ya..." said Luke gently.

Troy frowned deeply and scowled at him, snapping.

"I ain't sick...you're just like the rest of 'em!"

He hissed before darting out the room again.

Luke frowned his heart heavy at the youngster's response.

The doctor looking after Luke stepped back against the door as a blur rushed past her, frowning a little before looking to Luke.

"What's going on there?"

"I had a visitor...little guy named Troy."

The doctor frowned as she heard the name before a look of realization came over her face.

"Oh Troy! I know him...I'm not his doctor but I chat with him sometimes..."

"He's runnin' from his doctors..." explained Luke. "Poor little guy."

The doctor nodded, sitting down beside Luke on the bed. She had changed out of her doctor's work clothes and into normal civilian clothes - a pair of jeans and a light pink shrt.

"Wonder why that is..."

"He said they were gonna stick him with needles an' things..."

The doctor looked to him, frowning a little.

"Did he say why?"

"No...just said...his mama left him here...didn't come back...an' he ain't got a daddy."

The doctor sighed and nodded.

"Yeah I know...the mother didn't leave contact details or nothin'...we're tryin' to get hold of his birth certificate to find out who his father is..."

Luke sighed, knowing first hand how the little one felt. "Ain't easy not havin' no one...he's too little t' be on his own...what's gonna happen to him?"

The doctor shrugged

"It depends what's wrong with him...if we can't find out who his father is or his father doesn't want to take him...then he'll either stay here for the duration of his treatment or he'll be sent to an Orphange..."

Luke shook his head. "I sure don't know how a father couldn't want him...he's cute as a button."

The doctor nodded with a smile.

"Yeah he sure is...but then again some people just arn't ready to be fathers...they have lives of their own...last thing they need is some kid coming to muck everything up..."

Luke nodded. "I suppose. Course I never expected to end up a father, but I wouldn't trade Jaime for anything."

The doctor nodded with a smile.

"I gathered...so how are you adjusting to being a Dad anyway..."

Luke shrugged. "I dunno...some days I think I can do it...others...I wonder if I'll make it through the morning."

She nodded softly, smiling.

"Well it must have been a hard thing to take on..."

"It weren't hard t' do....just hard t' stay sane some days..."

The doctor laughed softly, sighing.

"Yeah we girls can be a handful at Jaime's age..."

"You can say that again..."
