Tom Duke Posted yesterday at 12:40 AM Posted yesterday at 12:40 AM Howdy Y’all, just thought I’d do a post here and see if anyone here would be able to help me out. I’m basically lookin for advice, I don’t have it yet. But eventually I want to get myself a nice 1969 Dodge Charger, for a General Lee Replica. Now what I’m asking about, is how reliable are they as a daily driver? Like not for winter driving (of course) but during fair seasons. For someone who wants to get into 1969 chargers in particular, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Y’all. Tom Duke RogerDuke 1 Quote
Hobie Hartkins Posted yesterday at 12:45 AM Posted yesterday at 12:45 AM (edited) They're not that easy to find and when you do, they're VERY hard to afford because they're antique cars AND because of the place they played on the show! So.....good luck! ( You better have some deep pockets!) Good to see you cousin! Edited yesterday at 12:50 AM by Hobie Hartkins RogerDuke and Tom Duke 2 Quote
RogerDuke Posted yesterday at 01:52 AM Posted yesterday at 01:52 AM (edited) Welcome to the HazzardNet Tom. I doubt I can help you with the car advice but Hobie is right about needing deep pockets. 1969 Chargers aren't cheap. The question about being reliable depends on what kind of shape it is in. It would be no different than any other older model. Some out there run perfect and some are junk. It's like that old saying goes "You get what you pay for." Unless you have Cooter Davenport skills and/or unlimited money to pay someone else to do the work you would be better off looking into prices on a 10 year old orange Charger and going from there. Wouldn't be a real genuine General but you could still paint General Lee on the roof, along with the flag and the 01 door numbers. It would be a great tribute car. How long have you been a Dukes fan? Who is your favorite character? We're happy to have you here and hope to hear more from you. Edited yesterday at 01:54 AM by RogerDuke Tom Duke 1 Quote
Meadowmufn Posted yesterday at 02:04 AM Posted yesterday at 02:04 AM I love the "idea" of having a classic car. After seeing what my brother went through in high school with his '63 T-Bird, I enjoy seeing other peoples' classic cars. That's not meant in any way to discourage, just to make it clear it's a pretty big commitment in time, money, blood, sweat, and tears. RogerDuke 1 Quote

Funny thing, I find the modern challenger bears more resemblance to an old charger than the chargers. Finding a fixer upper 69 even seems hard now, most of the ones I’ve seen are restored projects and would cost more money than the bank of JD Hogg probably has in it. That being said, I’m young and patient. Anything can happen in this life, so who knows! RogerDuke 1 Quote

Speaking of modern day tributes, I’ve seen plenty of challengers done up in General Lee fashion… Looks the part too. I’m keeping an open mind, I could make a modern tribute work, but like I said anything’s possible too Been a Dukes fan now for about 19 years, or so. Dad introduced me from a young age, we had a grand ol time watching together. My favourite? I’d have to say I took a shine to Luke Duke especially. Quote
