Hobie Hartkins Posted August 27 Author Posted August 27 well, cousins, right now I'm watching you know what and having a few AB's. I just watched Bad Day In Hazzard and I'm about to watch Miss Tri-Counties! I hope every one is doing well! 9/2 is coming fast and I'm counting down! Doctor gave me specific instructions, no beer or cold drinks 3 days before surgery! So Friday ( DOHD) is my last party day until after surgery and probably until somewhere around November! Hobie Hartkins Posted August 29 Author Posted August 29 I just thought of something last week.....ever notice the theme song? Do you ever start the DVD and then go do something while it's playing ( I take my medicine before bed) and I NEVER get tired of hearing it, even when it plays over and over. It's like the episodes themselves.....there's no point of exhaustion! You can listen and watch over and over and over! What other show, band, etc. can you name like that???!!! RogerDuke Posted Sunday at 11:17 PM Posted Sunday at 11:17 PM Relaxing now after getting home from Northern Virginia. It's 300 miles one way, much of it is on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. People are idiots. I get that I am getting older and lost my daughter to a careless driver 2 years ago but there is more to it than that. Just about every time you see somebody crossing the line they are doing so because the life of the person they are cutting off has less value to them than their text or fantasy football team. We have reached a point where an electronic device matters more than a life. And when you point this out to idiots you know who text and drive the person just says "Well, maybe they were texting a person who was having a medical emergency or maybe their child was in danger". There is a chance in a billion it was something like that. Hobie Hartkins and Skipper Duke 1 1 Quote

You know, when you're a kid and you do crazy stuff and then get older and learn to drive and you drive crazy....nothing's going to happen! That happens to other people! ( You ARE other people!) Hey! It's never happened before! I know what I'm doing! It's an adolescent sense of invulnerability Then most people ( SOME people??) as they mature and their brain develops, learn that yes, they to can die and no it's not just other people! 5/15/82! I was a junior in high school, passenger in my friend's car and he was flying and we hit a phone pole. I was in a coma for a week and in the hospital for a month. Some people never fully develop mentally. RogerDuke 1 Quote
Hobie Hartkins Posted Monday at 06:55 AM Author Posted Monday at 06:55 AM What I'm doing right now, is thinking about how comforting it is to be in Hazzard, or to watch the show. When you run in to a stressful situation, you just, " Head to Hazzard" . You can literally, both while the shows are playing or sitting practically anywhere, get lost in Hazzard, in a much simpler, more relaxing world, where you know everybody and everybody knows you and they all share your opinion on stuff and your view on life! It even helps you sleep. I just close my eyes and think about an episode or make up an episode in my head! Then it's off to La La land until next morning. Hey, We've even discussed other plot episodes etc. on here before! Or what would this character do in this situation, etc. When you can lose yourself in this world and all its infinite possibilities, it makes life easier and more comfortable, enjoyable etc. RogerDuke 1 Quote

I don't do many long journeys, but luckily I don't recall seeing anyone doing that on my recent trip to Galway, although I'm sure it happens regularly over here. Maybe I'm imagining it, but people here seem to drive much more hesitantly lately. I thought it could be the reduced driving during the Covid lockdowns, but that was a while ago now. Sometimes I approach a junction thinking I'll easily get out because there's a huge gap, but the car in front stops dead and waits for nothing. Then there are the drivers who drive at well under the speed limit completely oblivious to the long queue behind them. That's my two cents. RogerDuke and Hobie Hartkins 2 Quote

That's my two cents. My number one thing I hate about driving is tailgaters. I get that they are in a hurry but I figure if I'm going to get rear ended I have a better chance of not getting killed if I am going slower....so I slow down if I'm getting tailgated. It also lessens their chance of being killed....but for some reason they don't seem to appreciate my safe driving practices. Quote
HossC Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I don't tailgate even when the driver in front is going well under the speed limit. There's just not enough time to react if anything happens. I have also used the slowing down tactic when I've been tailgated. RogerDuke and Hobie Hartkins 2 Quote
RogerDuke Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago That's good but on multiple lane highways if there is any room between you and the car ahead of you, you are constantly being cut off and you can't brake because the person behind you is usually right on your bumper. I don't know how people who drive in city rush hour traffic daily keep their sanity. My nephew drives in DC traffic daily and I asked him if he ever gets used to it and he said "not really!" Quote
Hobie Hartkins Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago Right now I'm watching Scooby Doo, " Pirates /ahoy!" ansd about to head to Hazzard.....it's what I call it when I go to bed and turn on my DOH DVD and watch it until I start to fall asleep! Remember, it's just now DOHD and make it a good one! Happy DOHD fellow Hazzardites!! Quote
