I recommend season 2 as well. My rule of thumb with the show is that the earlier shows are usually better. I couldn't ever bring myself to buy season 5. Replacing Bo and Luke was almost sacrilegious to me.

Tom was probably rude because he was going through cocaine withdrawals at the time. Luke Duke would beat the crap out of a scoundrel like Tom Wopat if they ever met. I love the show, the characters, and the cast, but Tom's behavior is inappropriate.

Season 2, episode 14, "The Runaway" I just happened to watch that episode last week, so it and Uncle Jesse's "Just a farmer" speech are fresh on my mind. Being a farmer myself, I especially enjoyed his speech. I agree with you completely Hobie. If you read his interviews, he always seems to look down on his time as a Duke. Wopat even hosted a country tv show on TNN back in the 80's or early 90's. He would have never had the country credibility to do that if it hadn't been for the Dukes. He hasn't done many Dukes related events until recently, he must need the money to support his habit. I've also talked with quite a few fans, including several at Cooter's Last Stand, who said that he was rude while signing autographs. I didn't hear a single negative word about any of the other cast members.

Eh, just the typical type of article written by elitists who look down on Middle America. They view us as some sort of alien creature who they just don't understand.

Another note on the truck: You may have noticed that the door mirrors are not on it. While trying to reinstall them on the truck, one of the brackets broke as I was trying to move it, rendering the bracket useless. I didn't want to have a mirror on one side but not the other. This actually worked out in my favor, as the mirrors would have gotten in the way of all the people that took pictures while sitting in the truck. I will put on a different set of mirrors at some point. I also lost one of the door locks, so they didn't get put on in time for the show either. I don't think that most people were worried about those details though. I did have one fellow (his name is Andrew, he operates a wrecker at his local racetrack) who noticed that the truck had the correct wrecker bed on it. I was glad that someone was as particular about the details as me!

I was talking to another fan at the show, and he counted between 90-95 other Chargers there, and there were a handful that weren't painted as the General Lee. The inside of Cooter's Garage was very cool to see, they definitely put a lot of time and effort into it. I am glad that Ben Jones has really put his heart into keeping the show alive.

Thank you all for the compliments and encouragement during the entire process. If anyone got a picture taken as they were standing beside my truck, I told them that they could get a picture sitting inside the truck. You wouldn't believe how the little kids' faces lit up when they were sitting in the driver's seat. (many adults sat in it too!) That wrecker was as close to Cooter's actual 67 Ford wrecker that I knew how to recreate. The only real difference that I know of is that his interior was white, and mine is red. I didn't have the time or patience to do an interior paint job. It was definitely worth the 10 hour one-way drive to get to show it off for all of our fellow fans. Hopefully I will get to recreate his late 60's-early 70's GMC wrecker (the grey Chevy that I have) in the next year or two. I hope that I can find a used 350 engine for it, if not then I could buy a new crate 350 for around $1600 plus the cost of water pump, carb, and other accessories. It also needs a clutch, brake job, wheels, tires, and steering wheel. If I just had unlimited time and money. . . . . . . I will be for sure to do a build thread on it when that time comes.

It was a really good time, I had a lot of fun. It took hours just to get one individual autograph, so I passed on that. Most of the cast members were charging $20 for a signature, and usually around $30 or so for a car part. John Schneider was charging $150 to sign car parts if you brought them to him, I was kind of put off by that. He was really nice when I met him in person several years ago, though. Sonny Shroyer and Rick Hurst were walking around the car exhibit charging $100 to sign your vehicle. Tom Wopat was driven in to sign one fan's General Lee painted Toyota 4runner, I have no idea what he charged the owner. Tom is known to be on the unfriendly side. I tried talking to several staff members there to see if I could get a picture of Ben Jones sitting in my wrecker, but I was unsuccessful. He was a busy man. I watched them as they got on stage together at the end of the day, but you all would probably do better to look it up on YouTube. The car jump is on there as well. This was supposedly the final Dukesfest style event. It may very well have been, but with the amount of money made there, it would be hard for me to believe that someone won't pick up the torch at some point.

I made a new friend, Gary from Pennsylvania. He is a Ford parts guy. This is his 1979 F150, with a souped-up 460 and 36,000 original miles. It was a show-winning quality pickup, and I'm glad he parked next to me.

These photos were taken as we were pulling into the event on Saturday around 11 am local time. It had been raining for much of the previous afternoon, night, and earlier that morning. It was a muddy first day.

I'll get some clearer pictures of it posted tomorrow night, hopefully. I will also try to post other photos of Cooter's Last Stand this week. I am now using Imgur to host my photos, and it is much easier and quicker than Photobucket. Thanks for the tip on that, Andrew D Charger Chaser. At some point I will go back through my deleted Photobucket photos and re-upload them, so that this thread stays relevant for future reference. It is just very annoying that Photobucket screwed people like that. A special thanks goes to HossC, for his help with my door decals. They look great!!

Geez, what a mess. All of that was news to me, I will try Imgur or Flickr when I get back home. If photobucket wants to start charging exhorbitant fees that is fine, but to break years worth of links and pictures is atrocious business practices. Is anyone else here going to be at Dukesfest?

I was going to post an updated picture of the wrecker, but I am apparently out of my free photobucket 3rd party hosting and I will have to find another way to post pictures on here. I don't have time to figure that out right now as I leave very early in the morning to go to Dukesfest. The truck is 99% complete, I was going to put on the door mirrors tonight to finish it up, but one of the brackets broke, so neither mirror is going on right now. I will do my best to post pictures of my truck as well as the happenings at Dukesfest next Tuesday night.
