  1. Not to get political but I see F1 has cancelled the Russian Grand Prix for now.

The Daytona 500 had a huge jump in viewers from last year's 500, 8.8million people watched this year compared to just 4.9million viewers for last year's Daytona 500.

Here's the penalty report for the Daytona 500 https://www.jayski.com/2022/02/23/daytona-post-race-penalties-announced-4/

RFK and Penske did not get penalized and Nascar has decided to make changes to the wheels that those teams did.

Nascar has also suspended the crew chiefs and tire changers from the #50 TMT team and #31 Kaulig Racing. If teams will also lose tire changers I think we might see slower pitstops to make sure the rims are seated right and lugs tightened properly as top tier teams do not want to lose valuable pit crew.

I'm using a tablet but don't know what the operating system is. I might have it fixed. I removed it from the home screen. Then I googled HazzardNet, successfully logged in, and then returned it to the home screen.  I logged in again just now and as you can see, that worked.

If it's a not an Apple iPad then it's most likely running a Google Android operating system and Chrome as a browser.

That's so weird about 1922 and 2022 being 59 degrees. I think it was 57 here yesterday. It's cold this morning though and will be for the next 10 days.

It looks like either the starter or alternator is going out in my car. Monday morning it started then stalled a minute after and wouldn't start again. The battery/charge light came on so I figured it was the battery due the the wild temperature swings lately. Battery checked out fine at the place I got it so I reinstalled it after they charged it back up started the car and it stalled again about two minutes later and wouldn't restart with the battery/charge light on the dash lit up again. Yesterday I was cleaning it out since I was going to have it towed to the shop so I put the key in just to see if the charge light stayed on but it went off with the rest of the idiot lights so I started it and it idled fine for 5 minutes, no lights came on and it didn't stall. A few hours later I started it again with no issues. I'm still going to have it checked out though, debating if I want to chance driving it to the shop instead of having it towed to save the $100 towing fee.

F1 has been using single lug rims for decades (it's one of the reasons that F1 pit stops can be so quick), but they still cause problems from time to time. It's been a while since a car left the pits with a loose wheel that subsequently came off, but there were several cases last year where teams either struggled to get lug nuts undone or cross-threaded them putting wheels on.

P.S. Thanks for including Jacques Villeneuve's finishing position, Spike.

One team couldn't get the lug off so they changed the other 3 tires and left that one on, I forget which car it was but I think it made it to the end. One thing that multiple teams complained about was the rims not seating correctly. Funny thing is Penske and RoushFenwayKeselowski Racing both saw this as an issue before Daytona and modified the drivepin holes, even contacted Nascar about the issue. So far Nascar hasn't penalized either team after confiscating their rims before the Daytona Duels last week.

BTW I think Villeneuve's car had the best scheme at Daytona. After he qualified for the 500 Woodie's Wash Shack stepped up to sponsor him

  4. Austin Cindric won his first Daytona 500 race. Although the Hendrick Chevy's qualified on the front row the Fords quickly shuffled them out of the way. Brad Keselowski led most of the laps early on with Austin pushing him to the lead. Then the Gibbs and 2311 racing Toyota's linked up and showed their strength. Brad Keselowski pushed Harrison Burton a little too hard and caused the first small big one taking out 2 of the Gibbs Toyota's and Harrison rolled over. Some teams had issues with the new single lug rims and them coming off. The TMT 50 Chevy was the first to suffer a wheel flying off and causing a caution and Nascar immediately suspended the crew chief for 4 races and gave him a substantial fine. The 2nd big small one was caused by Kyle Larson having to big of a run and hitting Kevin Harvick too hard causing him to lose the car with 10 laps to go. This set up a 2 lap overtime shootout which Austin Cindric won. The 3rd big small one came at the end with several cars spinning/wrecking across the finish line.

That looks fun - I wonder what the race would've been like without the rule change.

A lot like the "twisted sister" gen 4 car races. The last few seasons the gen 4 car was raced some of the cars looked almost like they were drifting all around the track. Gen 5 or as it was better known the CoT debuted in 2008.

Greg Biffle, Jacques Villeneuve, Kaz Grala and Noah Gragson survived the Daytona Duels and made it into the 500 Sunday. JJ Yeley and Timmy Hill were not able to get in on qualifying speed or finishing order.

  6. Hope everyone else had a good Valentine's day and weekend. Wife and I did a couples terrarium workshop at the zoo. In addition to making our own terrarium we got a guided tour of the Zoo's museum greenhouse and show and tell with a few zoo animals.

Looks like it's going to be a weird weather week. Wednesday in the 50's, Thursday starts out in the 50's but a quick strong storm system will drop temps to single digits by Thursday night. So far it's unknown if we'll get ice accumulation or snow when the temps drop. One station is saying we could see upto 6 inches of snow depending on when the temps drop.

  7. Greg Biffle will try and make the Great American Race with NY Racing in the 44 Chevy Camaro https://www.jayski.com/2022/02/14/ny-racing-to-attempt-daytona-500-with-greg-biffle/

Busch Light will spend $10  million dollars over the next 3 years sponsoring women drivers https://www.jayski.com/2022/02/14/busch-light-launches-accelerate-her-program/

There are 42 teams vying for 40 spots for the Daytona 500, 6 driver's have to race their way in, 4 will make it 2 will go home. https://www.jayski.com/nascar-cup-series/2022-nascar-cup-series-daytona-500-entry-list/

Current and Former Nascar Cup Series driver's formed a Driver's Advisory Council and named Jeff Burton Director https://www.jayski.com/2022/02/11/drivers-form-drivers-advisory-council-jeff-burton-named-director/

The racing kicks off tonight at 7pm with the Arca Menards East series race on Floracing if you get that channel. Wednesday night is Cup single car Qualifying on FS1, Thursday night is the duels FS1, Friday night Truck series race FS1, Saturday afternoon Arca Menards series and Xfinity Daytona races FS1 and Sunday afternoon the Daytona 500 on Fox.

    Welcome to HazzardNet.

I don't think I've ever seen a Dukes pedal car in real life (I'm not sure if they were sold here), so I had a quick look on Ebay. There seem to be two very different types:

First, there's a very basic steel one, apparently from 1979. It appears to be red rather than orange, and has a flag with too many stars on the hood. Rather than "General Lee", it says "Rebel" beside the flag, and bizarrely has "10" on the doors. The two current sellers are asking $149 and $450 respectively.

The second is a plastic one made by Coleco, which is apparently from 1982. This one is definitely orange, has "General Lee" on the front fenders, "01" on the doors and a flag on the trunk. Believe it or not, sellers are asking for between $1,800 and $5,000 for these.

You'd think the steel one would be going for more money than the plastic one.

I found a used one in rough shape that sold for $400 on eBay.

Before you post it on OfferUp try the Facebook Dukes of Hazzard groups, I'm sure you'll get plenty of offers there.

"When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn't become a king. The palace becomes a circus."

We definitely know what that's like, we had to deal with a circus for 4 years.

Nascar's Growth and Engagement Officer/Advisor was arrested in Las Vegas over the weekend https://sports.yahoo.com/police-alvin-kamara-party-beat-man-unconscious-broke-his-eye-socket-050616004.html After reading this Nascar better distance themselves from this guy, like yesterday. The longer they wait the worse it's going to look for Nascar's brand.

  10. This definitely isn't the Nascar of old anymore, they done turned it into a 3 ring circus. Even though there was young children in the audience the rappers didn't feel the need to clean up their lyrics.

At least the racing was good aside from the only way to pass was to bump the car ahead out of the way. Maybe some banking would have made a wider groove to pass but who knows.

If they wanted to attract more casual viewers I think they should have had a simpler format instead of 4 knockout qualifying races. My wife kept asking during the knockout races is this the race, I'd say no just some stupid qualifying/knockout race. She replied didn't they do qualifying last night(Saturday) to which I said yes. She replied why are they doing these races if they did the qualifying already... I don't know ask the idiots who thought it up.

Some issues popped up in practice and the race relating to overheating and failures with the new transaxle.

Tyler Reddick and Kyle Busch led the first 2/3rds of the race and Joey Logano the last 1/3rd.

Well Spike, the forecasters got it right here. We got a foot. I have to take my grandson back to college in Akron Ohio tomorrow. It's 2 hours one way. It looks like the roads will be clear.

Officially we got 12.8 inches at the Airport weather station but outside my front door is just 9 inches, majority of it Thursday. The one local tv station is now running an ad with pics of the snow "We don't want to alarm you just inform you". Yet Tuesday they were saying "This is the big one folks, could be the biggest one in history. We could see 22+ inches." They're not saying anything about how far off their predictions were.

My dad finding out that I have a snowblower turned out worse than I thought so now I'm thinking about getting rid of it so I don't get called every :censored: time we get a little snowfall. Friday the elderly lady that lives next door to him wanted me to clear the 2 inches that fell after I cleared her driveway Thursday afternoon. I just shoveled it instead of getting the snowblower out of the garage and going through the whole startup procedure and waiting for it to warm up and anyways I left the key to it at home. My dad seen me shoveling and came over and gave me 10 minutes of grief because I wasn't using the bleeping blower, I turned my music back on and went back to shoveling and he eventually figured out I wasn't listening anymore and went back home. Turns out he didn't clear a path to get the trashcan out and wanted to use the snowblower and I said no. After I got done with the neighbor I shoveled a path for his stupid trashcan and instead of a thank you I got "what'd you get the snowblower for if you're not going to use it". I get home Friday and tell the wife I'm just going to sell the dang thing so she's pissed at me after we got in a fight about it....so yeah it's been a great :censored:weekend . I ended up adding a shot of whiskey to a bottle of Jones RootBeer that night.
