But, not “bright” enough to carry the show…it still took Bo & Luke to make it work. 

I always look at the bright side of things when it comes to season 5. The series didn't end after 4 seasons. And it produced one of the best episodes ever...."Welcome Back Bo 'n' Luke." 

I realize & know that older actors many times portrayed younger roles…especially back then. Michele Greene, as much as I loved her on L.A. Law, just looked 24-27 on the Dukes episode, to me. She looked ridiculous running around in the WOZ get-up…”and with her little dog, too!”  Nothing against her personally, I’ve always liked her…it was the episode itself.
I don’t really care for the “alternate cousins” episodes…but, once every few years I’ll watch a few when going through the show again. I do remember watching them as a kid, when they originally aired. The fools-gold (“Dukes Strike It Rich”, I think) episode is probably my favorite of their tenure on the series.
But, the whole thing has just a disaster. It should never have been done. It was amazing when Bo & Luke returned! 

The alien episode is the WORST episode of the show…unbelievably stupid!  Dukes was not a show where that kind of sci-fi crap belonged!  Definitely probably the most embarrassing aspect of the show. 

I totally agree. Though I didn't watch it until it was a rerun in the late 90s sometime. I don't think I've seen it since then. I do love the other cast, but it's not the same without Bo and Luke. And no one other than Bo and Luke should be driving the General Lee. LOL. I feel like that is how it goes in a lot of places where everyone tells the higher ups how it shouldn't be and then they don't listen, and it lands it their faces. Sad it happens like that.  At least it onl.y lasted a season and Bo and Luke returned.
Though if we are going to question the writer's abilities here...what about "Strange Visitor in Hazzard"? That is one Bo and Luke episode I can't do or will ever understand. LOL 

I actually did watch most of those episodes when they originally aired, as a kid…as I was so upset about Bo & Luke leaving, but I still loved the rest of the cast & the General Lee. However, since then I’ve only watched them once—when Season 5 was first released to DVD.
I’m currently going through the show again, and decided to watch the entire thing this time. I fully agree, that their acting & deliverance of lines was not great either…but, they tried to do what was asked & expected of them.
Gy Waldron also said though, that everyone tried to tell Warner Bros. & CBS to not try and literally copy Bo & Luke. They were too “cemented” in everyone’s minds, and you couldn’t just replace them. The new cousins needed to be their own new thing.
But, as usual the studio, network, and execs refused to listen (typical admin).  They think they know everything, but in reality don’t have a clue. The only changes were…the dark headed one (Vance) wore the yellow shirt & the blonde one (Coy) wore the blue shirt.
It was a sad time for DOH…but, somehow it got worked out, as I will never forget watching the episode when Bo & Luke return…one of the happiest moments of my childhood, lol, and one of my favorite episodes!  

I think I've only watched that season once and that was enough. It wasn't the actors' fault...if they got characters that weren't suppose to resemble Bo and Luke and try to have them act like them...but had cousins who were their own person with their own characteristics and looks, it probably would have been easier to accept. Still not Bo and Luke, but better than trying to copy them as if fans wouldn't know the difference. Sad for the actors who were placed in that role...but I also felt they didn't do that well of a job either as they always seemed to be reading off their lines. But they did what they had to do to get through it. It was definitely a great breath of fresh air when Bo and Luke returned from the circuit.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Coy & Vance episodes…nothing against Byron Cherry or the late Christopher Mayer, they did the best they could with what the situation was.
But, they were just sadly part of one of the dumbest & worst decisions Warner Bros. television & CBS ever made. And, I’m sorry but…even their “yee haws!” were cringe-worthy. 
However, one episode of their 19 episode-run on the show really makes me shake my head…”Coy Meets Girl”. It guest stars a young Michele Greene, who just a few years later got her stardom as ‘Abigail Perkins’ on the legal drama L.A. Law.
But, Greene looks 25 when I think she’s supposed to be around 16 in the episode, and the whole thing has a ridiculous rip-off of The Wizard of Oz vibe…with Greene running around in her ‘Dorothy’ dress, braided pig tails, and little dog companion—while the ’Wicked Witches’ of Hazzard (aka Boss & the hijackers) are out to get her. 
Sorry, but this was not the writers best effort for sure…even during the Coy & Vance time.

Garrett Duke was in mid repair of his car, when he heard Cooter's CB on the counter begin to squawk. At first he ignored it, assuming it wouldn't pertain to him until he heard something about the Boar's Nest. Knowing everyone was there, he slowly stands up, wiping his grease stained hands upon his faded denim jeans. Listening to Rosco's comment about framing Bill, makes anger rush rapidly within Garrett. Looking at his car,  he now feels helpless and stranded until he thinks of his neighbor.
Glancing around the dark garage, he spots Cooter's phone and he rushes over there and dial's the only phone number he knows in Hazzard. After three rings, the familiar voice shouts out, "Yo! You got Roy. What can I do for ya?"
Garrett eyes the sheriff's station through the open door and moves deeper into the shadows as he sees Rosco quickly tip toeing to his car. Hearing Roy breathe impatiently on the other end, brings him back to where he was. "Yo Roy," Garrett states with a smirk, "you answer you phone like that to everyone? What if I were the law?"
"I'd hang up on you," he quickly responds, "but you are the only friend I got, so I did a process of elimination."
Garrett grunts. "I doubt I'm your only friend," Garrett resorts, "I saw Nile and Ramon over there a few nights ago at your party."
"OK fine," Roy pouts, "I was trying to be nice. You are the only friend I got who calls when they need help and words gone around that you've been in knee deep in trouble with the law lately. I'm sure that wreck at the race took a deep blow to your ego. It was only time before you come calling begging for my help."
Garrett rolls his eyes as he lights a cigarette as Rosco drives away, his tires squealing. "I don't beg," he dryly states, "I just know I can trust you."
"And you can," Roy states and Garrett envisions him sitting on his holey and well-worn brown ugly couch, with his boots up on his wooden coffee table, with a huge smirk on his face. "What can I do for you? You in jail? Need more bail money? I'm your man. Lucky for you, I got paid yesterday."
Garrett rolls his eyes. "It's not like that. I just need a ride," he finally states, "I'm at Cooter's Garage with my car and I need a lift to the Boar's Nest."
"Ah you heard that too," Roy states on the other end, "Say no more. I'm on my way."
With that, Garrett hangs up and smashes his cigarette out before walking to the end of the garage to wait for Roy. A couple of long moments pass before Roy's rusted out yellow Chevy truck pulls in. Garrett quickly climbs in, looks at Roy, and states, "Thanks for the ride. Let's go."

Jesse was frustrated. He couldn't make moonshine anymore because of his agreement with the federal US of A government. He used to take a lot of pride in his skills but now he took pride in making crawdad bisque and didn't like being interrupted when in the middle of fixin' it. 
But he knew he had to have priorities. The boys might need him. Bill might need him. Maybe Ernie and Garrett too. He thought a moment and decided the best thing to do would be to turn the burner down to as low of heat as possible. He knew the bisque wouldn't taste as good if it cooled off to room temp and then reheated. 
He grabbed his red hat and headed toward the Boar's Nest. On the way he turned on his CB and went to channel 7. That is where the Dukes always went when they had trouble. Sure enough Luke answered and told him they had Bill and Ernie with them and just left for secret old still site number 4. 
Jesse smiled imagining the look on Boss's face when he raids his own Boar's Nest only to find Bill not there. Then his face turned angry. He knew Boss would accuse Bo and Luke of aiding a "known criminal". At least he figured Boss would label Bill that. 

Cousin Roger Duke Uncle Jesse... I will keep my Dukes family here up to date. It would be cool to meet you.

Hey Skipper, keep us updated on the Northeast Ohio Dukes in 2024 since you have Facebook and pay attention. It would be greatly appreciated. If he ever does another show at Yankee Lake it would be cool to go with you. 

Go Chase! Not sure if he will win it all but I personally guarantee he will have a better season than 2023! Lol

That would be nice if they could catch up with Red Bull. Unless it's your team winning, it gets tiring watching the other teams winning all the time; especially the same teams. I guess I will stop complaining as we start eleven days earlier than you. It just seems forever away. Though I wish we could just skip through February and get to March. January and February are always my longest, coldest, and hardest months. LOL. Plus still...no baseball. Unless you are pitchers and catchers who meet up mid February.
As for no delays...that's kind of nice. In NASCAR, they sit around and talk about anything and everything before they finally cancel anyways. Or like Tony Stewart said once, "They talk to anyone with legs" LOL. Ol' Smoke never was shy of telling it how he sees it. 
I just hope Chase Elliott will have a better season than he did last year. He had surgery on his shoulder after the season ended and is going through PT, so hopefully he will be healed and ready to go by February 18th. He says he will be. Better than last year where he broke his leg and had to be out the first six races of the season...then later got benched a race for fighting or something like that. Right now, I'll just take a win...as he didn't even have that last season.

We have to wait until February 29th for the start of the F1 season. I don't remember any previous Grands Prix being on a Saturday (they're always on a Sunday unless they're cancelled - there are no delayed races like there are in NASCAR), but the first two of this season, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, are on a Saturday this season due to Ramadan. We also get 24 races 2024 - the most ever. I just hope that the other teams have caught up with Red Bull over the winter so we get some racing this year!
