  1. Meanwhile, at home, poor Bo was about to go nuts with all the others gone. He was not only doing his and Luke's regular chores but all the other odd jobs Jesse needed done in an effort to keep his out of trouble and busy. He would sure be glad when Luke got home. Actually, he would have never thought it possible but he'd even be glad to get back to school. 00000 The week pasted a bit slower than normal for everyone involved. Even things were calmer that weekend at the Boar's Nest without Bo and Luke there. The only Dukes in the place were Daisy and Jeb. Bo being still grounded wasn't allowed to leave the farm unless Jesse sent him somewhere until he returned to school on Wednesday. 00000 At the Duke farm, Monday morning finally came. Bo looked at Jesse with the sadest puppy dog eyes since he was three, "Uncle Jesse?" Beth held her breath. She had a pretty good idea what Bo wanted. He had been pouting all week with Luke gone. Jesse Duke knew his nephew pretty well himself and could have bet what he wanted. He wasn't disappointed. "Yes, Bo." "You know we've gotten a lot of work done here and with Luke coming home today, he's gonna need a ride home." Bo hinted, "I'd like to be the one to go get him." Jesse had been watching Bo all week. He had done a lot of work. He had also been waiting all week for Bo to ask to go get Luke. He thought a long while before answering. "Now, Bo you are still grounded and Luke is going to be on probation for six months. Do you think it's wise to let you go get him?" Bo replied, "Uncle Jesse, I'll go get him and we'll be right back." Jesse began sternly, "No ya won't." then he softened his tone a bit, "You'll go get him a change of clothes, take them with you, pickup Luke and check in with Luther at the garage. I understand he may have some work for Luke to help keep him out of trouble, then you can pick the others up from school and come home afterwards." Bo's eyes were wide with surprise, "Yes, Sir! I'll go get the chores done so I'll be there when they release him." Bo knew the Luke would be released at noon. 00000 Peggy began getting Luke's things together just before noon. At noon she opened the cell door and clocked him 'out' and said, "Luke to make this official I've got to read you the terms of your probation that Judge Hardcastle has set." she said with a sigh. She had read them and Luke wasn't gonna like them. Luke didn't even like the sound of her tone, "Ok. I'm listening." She explained, "The terms are pretty broad but I wouldn't break them if I were you. 'Lucas K. Duke, you are to remain peaceful, lawabidding and sober at all times during the probationary period. You will will notify myself, Judge Hardcastle before you leave the Tri County area.' I need you to sign here." Luke looked at her in utter amazement. He felt he was being set up to fail this. Judge Hardcastle had seen it as giving him enough rope to hang himself. "Should I just make reservations now?" Luke said with a bit of temper which he didn't mean to direct at Peggy. "Hey, I'm sorry. You've been great. You didn't deserve that." Peggy gave him a slight smile, "Thanks. I could always tell Judge Hardcastle you'd rather complete the thirty days." Luke laughed, "Thanks. But, no thanks." He was going to have to talk to Jesse about this. He knew Rosco would be watching him like a hawk. He folded his copy of the paper with the conditions on it and walked outside, a free man. But to Luke it sure didn't feel that way. He saw Bo waiting at the General Lee. "Bo?" Before Luke could finish Bo was at his side. "Luke!" Bo said full of excitement. "I thought you'd still be grounded?" Luke asked. Bo replied, "I am but Uncle Jesse let me come get you after of course giving me specific orders." Luke figured, "Which involved 'come straight home', that's good by me!" Bo shook his head no, "Actually it involves going to the garage until time to pick the others up from school which is about two hours away!" 00000 At the garage, Luther Davenport was on a wrecker call. It seemed Agent Roche had been put into the pond by a white pick up. They would find out later that he had gotten a little too close to Jesse as he was going to the still site. Cooter slapped Luke on the back, "Buddy am I ever glad you are back! We're so backed up its not funny!" He opened the refrigerator, grabbed three beers and handed them to Bo and Luke. Luke took the beer. It really sounded good, but said, "Ya, know Cooter, as good as this would taste, I bet no one has had time to go get any parts. How about I trade this for a Pepsi and a shower?" Luke didn't think they needed to know that he and Dixie had exchanged a couple of letters. Cooter replied, "You are on!" Bo said taking a drink of his beer, "Luke you've got a change of clothes in the car." "Thanks Cuz." He said heading to get his clothes and a shower. 00000 When school let out Dixie was very glad to hear Luke talking to Cooter as she entered the garage, as promised she had saved the part run for him and hoped he'd take her up on getting something good to eat while they were gone. Now she just needed to work that in with her Dad's plans. They did need parts and she knew it. She heard Luther pulling in even before she could say anything to Luke, she formed her plan.......
  2. Ok I am just reading all this for the first time, my internet was down in March. For starters, I don't agree with drinking and driving. I work as a correctional officer, volunteer as an EMT and Fire Fighter so I've see what can happen from several sides of the coin. Now everyone can lie to each other here but don't lie to yourself have you ever had a beer and drove home a couople hours later? Well, I don't make a habit of it but I'm 40 and sometime between 16 and now I have done it -- not proud of it but did and I was closer to our wise 15 YO's age than Tom's 54. So Ok it wasn't right, we all know that, but if he were a star and particually Luke Duke it wouldn't have been a big deal. After all how many athletic stars have been arrested for possession of drugs and worse which blew over really quick! I hate it for professional image as well as the message it puts out to people who want to judge others, but hey, lets put this into it's proper prospective: After all this is Hazzazrd County. Any Law officer who seen who it was saw himself as Rosco for just a moment and he had a Duke boy dead to rights! Rosco would have loved to have pulled them over and arrested them after one beer too much! Now the article I saw didn't say what his BAC level was so it was possible he was just over the limit and the officer was looking for a name. The officer could have towed the car, and called for someone to pick him up --- that would have been the tactful way to have handled it. I too am just glad we still have Tom and that no one was hurt! Any word on the outcome of the charges?? DixieDaveport
  3. I too have heard negative things about Tom, which desturbed me because he has always been my favorite! One thing I heard was he wanted to distance himself from Dukes, well, with an open mind I met him myself at Duke Fest this year. If he wanted to distance himself or was in any way embarrassed about being Luke he sure didn't show it! I found him just as sweet as Luke. I watched for about two and a half hours as he signed autographs and spent a few precious (to us) moments with the fans. They brought in a child in a wheel chair and he went over and got down to the childs level to talk and for pictures and autographs. Then while on stage he and John were preforming songs but you could see the mischief in both them as they shared their own private conversation away from the mics. They were both cutting upand enjoying themselves. They like the show did include Daisy in some of this. Sat. night they kept trading guitars. John made the statement that they were each others guitar techs. On Sunday while John was at the mic Catherine and Tom had video cameras recording the crowd, then Tom switched and recorded the crowd with a second camera (likely John's???) John had an announcement before they started on Sunday, "We have an Orange 1969 Dodge Charger with Licnse number CNH-320 that has left its lights on! The crowd around me returned Good Luck finding the owner! (as there was over 100 General Lees there) When Tom came on stage the crowd was really making him feel welcome, he came out and 'flashed' the crowd by openning his shirt!! By the way if any have a picture of that I'd like to see it. I was too busy watching from very close up to take the picture! LOL And ladies that chest is still as strong and muscular as it was years ago!!!! OMG! As well as his back (above the waist-- Yes I was good! -- Uncle Jesse raised me to be a lady) when I put my arm around him for the picture. DixieDavenport!!
  4. Jesse smiled softly as he began to speak to his troubled nephew, "Bo, first ya just start out enjoying that little bundle of joy, be its Daddy, love it and enjoy it and the rest will come naturally. That little one will tell you exactly what it needs. Look at y'all, I didn't have no experience with babies before y'all and I have to admit, none of you have turned out too bad yet. Though, sometimes Luke does worry me just a bit with his wildness, but other times he acts so responsible it ain't funny." 00000 On the way to school, Jeb at Daisy's request stopped at the Davenport's to pick up Dixie. She was in a pink top, blue jeans and boots. Jeb had to sneak just one more long glance at her, though she had never let him think they would ever be more than friends. He managed to get them all to school on time and without entering into any races. Though he did spot a few trouble makers as he walked Daisy, Dixie and Beth into the school. Jeb wished that Cooter and Luke hadn't graduated and Bo weren't susupended, he felt that it was going to be a long rest of the week....... 00000 As for the oldest Duke boy, he had been up far too long with basically nothing to do but look out the small window at Hazzard pass him by, think, or twidle his thumbs. The ten days he was sentenced to was passing far to slowly. Luke had never liked to 'have' to stay inside, especially with the nice weather Hazzard was having let alone being locked inside. The thougths of the girls of Hazzard, the idle time, boredom, heat (as the Hazzard jail offered no air conditioning -- just an open window and a fan across the room at the officers desk) and 'alone' time was also leading to another problem for the young red blooded male, though he'd have been hard pressed to he admitted that to anyone except maybe Bo. An 'agitated' Luke stood near the window hoping to find somethng interesting to watch in Hazzard Square to get himself calmed down. All he managed to see was ................"
  5. This is cute! I'm OKRA and probably considered and older one! LOL Dixie Davenport

  7. Ok in the reunion it was said that Buzz and the double 0 were the only one to ever beat the General Lee in an overland race. My question is what was Buzz's last name or did they get it? I haven't watched the reunion in a couple of years and my VCR is down. Help?? Of course we know that the only car to beat the General Lee in the show was Amy's #13 Lucifer! but I'm not sure is they called it an over land race so this may be the difference! Dixie
  8. The next morning, at the Duke farm found everyone but Bo getting ready for school as usual but Bo knew Jesse had other plans for him since he would be out of school all week. Jeb reached for the keys to his car and asked, "Are y'all about ready?" Jeb was anious to get to school for once as he'd be driving today. Bo glared at him for a moment, "It better be a much slower ride than the last time you drove my wife anywhere." "Scout's honor. It will be." Jeb didn't need to be on Bo's bad side again. After the others had left for school, Jesse rinsed his coffee cup and said, "We'd best get at it." He picked up the keys to the pickup and tossed them to Bo. In the truck Jesse said, "I think we'll head up to number 3. It hasn't been worked in a spell." Bo headed the truck off to still sight number three. For most two wheel drive trucks it was a challenge to get there but with a Duke behind the wheel the old Ford would have no problems making the trip up what wasn't more than a goat path. When they got the truck as far as they could get it, Bo parked it behind a clump of bushes. Being no stranger to hard work, Bo put the bag of sugar and two bags of corn on his shoulders and headed further up the mountain. Jesse grabbed the yeast and the shotgun and followed behind his nephew. He watched as Bo slowed down about hundred yards from the still looking for the 'trip' wire that was connected to tin cans to warn the Dukes of unwanted company. Luke and Jesse had run this particular wire and with the still not being used in awhile the weeds were grown up to conceal it. Bo knew he was close to the trip wire but couldn't see it. Jesse said quietly, "About five feet in front of you. I can't see it either." Once the mash was cooking Jesse said, "You know I've been cookin' up a lot of shine. I figure to have a load at about every still we've got by the time Luke gets home. Then we'll start delivering it. The only thing is that once Luke is home the law will be figurin' that we'll have to start delivering what I've made while he's been in jail so I figure they will be layin' for us." Bo knew that Jesse had upped production on account of the baby and the extra expenses that were the result of Bo's carelessness. He assured his uncle, "We'll get it through. Don't ya worry, Uncle Jesse, Luke and me won't let ya down."

  13. Anyone got any good pictures of Tom? I have some but haven't gotten them on the computer yet. What I'm really interested in are some when he came on stage Sunday and flashed us with the great view of his chest! I was too busy looking and didnt' click fast enough I got him buttoning the shirt back up. Dixie
  14. General, I gotcha covered but have to get them on the computer give me until after payday to get them on disk. I know I have one of the truck pulling the General lee after the stunt! But I should have several pics of the trucks from Sat. and maybe Sat night. By the way as much of a Duke Fan and General Lee fan I and a truck person so they really caught my eye as well as the Johnson rig setting on the back stretch. By the way in case you didn't guess I loved your trucks! (Of course being Cooter's little sister I was corrupted at an early age! DixieDavenport's gone looking for my CDL one day! PS. I'm practicing with a 1974 Howel International fire truck 31 feet long 9 feet wide and carries 1000 gallons of water. I haven't hit anything YET but most of the guys n the dept can't say that! LOL
  15. OK, I'm going to bed now! I have just finished packing and have a couple errands to run tomorrow before I leave for Duke Fest -- I hope to be in Nashville by 8pm to see the cast at the Grand Old Opry. See ya'll there! Dixie
  16. After leaving Luke at the jailhouse, Bo went to find Uncle Jesse and keep his word to the principal. He had checked the time by the courthouse clock and found that Jesse would likely still be on the mountain so Bo headed the General Lee in the direction of still site #4. He parked beside Jesse's truck and waited several minutes to make sure that he hadn't been followed, then he quietly started the short walk to the still site near the top of the mountain. As he approached the still sight he was careful not to trip the cans on the wire that would warn anyone at the still someone was in the area unless you knew exactly where the wire was. Both Bo and Luke could find it in pitch darkness and never trip it. When Bo was less than twenty feet away he called softly, "Uncle Jesse." so that he wouldn't take Jesse by surprise when Jesse did see or hear him. "Bo? What in tarnation are you doing here it can't be that late." Jesse said reaching for his pocket watch. "No, Sir. It's still early yet." Bo dropped his head just a bit expecting the next question. "Then what are you doing here? You haven't skipped school since you and Beth have been together....." Bo interupted Jesse thoughts, "No, Sir. And I'm not skipping now. Ya, see....." Bo pause, after Luke told him just how much trouble he may be in, Bo was really dreading this, "Tommy Smith yelled at me right in the main hall of the school today and then said something about Luke and well, ....." Bo again paused, "I ain't gonna let him talk about any of us especially Luke in front of the whole school." Bo took a deep breath and finished his story much quieter and slower, "So I, ........ shut him up. The principal let me bring the General home since he couldn't call you or Luke. I gave him my word I'd come tell you all about it, but he's still going to call you later........." "Bo Duke." Jesse said just a bit louder than his normal voice, "It ain't enough that Luke is in jail for fighting TWICE, but now you have to get into your own fight in school no less, have you forgotten that in a few months you will have a child to set an example for? Do you want to end up in jail with Luke?" "No, Sir, but I couldn't walk away from from this one in front of the whole school." Bo tried to justify. Jesse was having none of it, "That is no excuse! I am never held to fighting and you two know that. You've got me so mad i could spit! Now, I want you to take the General straight home and the chores better be done when I get there." Bo knew he was in deep on this one, "Yes, Sir." Before he started for the General he stopped and said, "The others will be needin' a ride home from school." "I'll leave from here and get them. You stay at the house and we might just have to have us a long talk out in the barn when I get there." Jesse said. He was mad enough to whip the hid off of Bo and Luke both right now but knew that he'd never whip them to hurt them but to teach them a lesson because he loved them. "Yes, Sir and I'm sorry for causing more problems." Bo said as he walked off. 00000 After school, Daisy and Beth rounded up Jeb. "Let's go," Beth said. "Before we have any more trouble." The three of them went outside looking for their ride. Looking around, the three of them found that Jesse's truck was parked outside the front door of the school but Jesse was no where to be found. They figured that Jesse had went to talk to the principal. Jeb jumped in the back of the truck and took a seat on the side of the truck as Beth and Daisy leaned against the side of the truck. Jeb was the first to speak, "Looks like Jesse's really mad at Bo or he'd have been here." Daisy shot him a look. She didn't want to upset Beth any more than neccessary. About that time Dixie Davenport came up to the truck. She had been in hall when the fight broke out as had most of the school. Seeing Jesse's truck instead of the General Lee she figured out much of what she didn't know, "I guess it wouldn't be such a good idea to ask to come over?" Daisy smiled just a bit, "Sugar, you know you are welcome at our house anytime, but I don't think things at home will be real enjoyable tonight." Dixie nodded, "That's pretty much what I figured." She then turned to Jeb and said, "Ya'll take care and tell that cousin of yours 'Hi' for me when you see him." They knew she was talking about Luke ..... but no one thought anything about it .... 00000 When Dixie Davenport came to Luke's mind he immediately crossed her off his 'list' as a possible girlfriend, after all she was Cooter's sister. His 'little' sister at that. As close as they all were it would never work. Someone would get mad or hurt and friendships with their families could be lost. The Davenports were both considered family with the Dukes and Luke felt like trying to see Dixie would be like trying to see Daisy, at least that's what his mind was telling him........
  17. Though I met John at Duke Fest last year and can honestly say the man has gotten better looking with age, I have been a true Duke fan and Luke / Tom Fan since the first Friday night that Dukes aired all those years ago. If DOH wasn't a re-run I would not go to the ball games, Luke was my steady Friday night date for years and only rarely stood me up (like Presidents talks, ball games and such running into DOH's time) DixieDavenport
  18. One of the girls glared at Beth and said, in a voice that attempted to drip of shock, but failed badly, "Well, I have never!" Beth replied, "That's only because the Duke boys don't date trash!" Daisy had gotten her two cents in by replying with Beth's comment, "That's NOT what I heard, but it wasn't with any cousin of mine!" 00000 As Bo and Tommy waited outside the principal's office while he talked to their teacher, Bo hoped that Kool Aid had seen enough of the arguement before the fight to see that it wasn't totally his fault. After the teacher headed back to his class the principal said, "I'll save you for last." he said to Bo. Then to the secretary, call Mr. Smith's parents and get them on their way. "Tommy step into my office." He said tiredly, though it was Tuesday morning. He took the seat behind the desk and asked, "Ok, let's have it." Tommy started, "He's just mad becasue his cousin is in jail for attacking me. I guess Bo wanted to try his luck." The principal asked, "Without any other reason, he hit you first?" Not as conviencing as he would have liked sounded, he replied, "Yeah. ..... Yeah he did." Many years of being a principal and knowing the Duke's told him different. "Ok, go out and wait for your parents. I still want to talk to them. Since both you and Mr. Duke are 18 either or both can seek further assistance from the Sheriff, however, I personaly think our courts are far too busy for every young mans fist fight. I expect to see you next week with a different attitude." The principal opened the door, "Bo come on in." Tommy noted that Jesse Duke hadn't been called like his parents had. "You want to tell me your side of this?" the principal asked. Bo began, "I had walked Beth to class and was heading to mine when that jerk...." The principal interupted, "Bo there will be no name calling in here." "Sorry," Bo replied as he continued, "Anyway, he said somethings about Luke. Then, I said somethings about him that I guess he didn't want to hear so he came at me and well, it was on." The principal felt he believed Bo's account more so than Tommy's but since they had both fought they would both have to be suspended. "As I told Tommy, you are both 18 and can either or both take this farther with the Sheriff if you want but I also advised him that I personally feel our courts are far to backed up with things as simple as a young mans fist fight." Bo sighed. He hoped that Tommy didn't drag this to Court. Beth and Jesse would have a fit. The principal continued, "And, as you well know you've earned yourself a weeks vacation. I know that you bring your wife to school and pick her up even when you aren't here. Bo you can't even be on the parking lot or you'll leave me no choice but to call the Sheriff myself. Understood?" Having the good graces to look embarrassed, Bo replied, "Yes, Sir, I understand." The principal asked, "So, with Luke in jail and I suppose Jesse is in the fields, who do I call to pick you up?" Bo had at first looked surprised that the principal knew about Luke, then figured that most of Hazzard had heard about it by now. He sighed again, "If Jesse isn't home, the others are here, but I have the General Lee. I'll leave and go tell Jesse all about it. Duke's honor." This coming from any other student wouldn't have meant much to the principal and maybe not even this one last year, but Bo Duke had seemed a lot older this year especially after he had gotten married. Bo had given his word to him which any Duke's word could always be taken to the bank. The principal saw no other real choice in this matter, he sighed and said, "Okay, Bo you can take your car home, but tell Jesse I'll be calling him this evening." "Yes, Sir." Bo said as he got up, "Can you tell Beth or one of the others that Jesse or I'll be here to pick them up after school and let them know if it's me I'll be parked across the street." The principal replied, "I'll get them the message." Bo opened the door, walked right past Tommy and his Mother and headed right to the General Lee. From Tommy's seat he could see the parking area and saw Bo Duke get in his orange piece of junk and drive off. The principal called them into his office, "Mrs. Smith as Tommy has probably told you by now he and Bo Duke were involved in a fight earlier. I'm going to have to suspend them both for a week." Tommy asked with a bit of an attitude, "Just why was my Mother called and Mr. Duke not?" The principal replied shortly, "That's between Mr. Duke and myself." Mrs. Smith spoke up, "Well, I just don't think it's fair, that Bo Duke is just as bad as his cousin. They both attacked my son." It wasn't hard to see where Tommy's attitude had come from the principal thought. 00000 It was just after lunch when Luke heard someone bounce down the stairs. He looked up to see Bo standing at the locked gate at the bottom of the steps, "Peggy no one was up stairs. Can I talk to Luke for a few minutes?" Peggy was giving him a curious look as she checked her watch. "Aren't you supposed to be in school?" "Yeah, that's what I wanted to see Luke about." Bo added. Luke groaned slightly, though he was really glad Bo was there, "What's wrong Bo?" He asked as Peggy was unlocking the gate to let Bo closer to Luke. Bo took a stool over next to the bars where there was a painted line to keep visitors from being able to pass anything to someone in the cells. "Luke I swear it wasn't my fault." Luke almost laughed. He'd heard this same line from his cousin since he was three and right now he looked about three to Luke. "What wasn't your fault?" Bo began, "Me and Tommy Smith sort of got into a fight, but he's not going to talk to me about you like that." "Dang it Bo!" Luke exclaimed. "Isn't my being here for fighting enough?" Luke tried to bite his tongue to keep from asking but he had to ask, "Just what did he say about me that got you so worked up?" Bo really didn't want to tell Luke because he knew what would happen. "Bo?" Luke insisted. "That you were officially a 'jailbird' after you 'attacked' him." Bo said with a sigh. Luke smiled at him and shook his head, "Well, Bo, I guess he's partly right on that matter, but that was no reason for you to go and get yourself in trouble. What did Uncle Jesse say?" Bo looked downward for a second, then replied, "He doesn't know yet. With you here and Uncle Jesse out in the fields the principal let me drive home. I gave my word I'd go tell Uncle Jesse and he's gonna call Jesse tonight. I pretty much look to be grounded until you get home once I find Uncle Jesse, so I had to stop to see you first." Luke had to smile at his cousin. "I'd say you are right about being grounded. Cousin, ....... our Uncle is the fairest man I know, but I have to warn you. Once you tell him about your fight and since he can't get to me, you might just end up paying my tab on this one." Bo looked at Luke solumnly, "Thanks, Luke, I needed to hear that right now." "Sorry, but I figured you'd rather expect the worst." Luke said. Bo replied, "You're all heart. You know that?" Luke asked, "Would you have rather 'just' expected being grounded and been surpised?" "No. I guess you're right." Bo sighed, shook 00000 Luke had pretty much eliminated all the girls in the class ahead of him, either because they had moved away, married, or were just not his type. He was tired of just setting there, tired of laying on the hard bunk and walking was out of the question in the small cell. He stood up and looked out the window watching life in Hazzrd passing him by. Cooter had the hood up on old man Pack's truck. Miss Tizdale had just dropped off the mail for the Couthouse. Rosco was returning no doubt with Boss Hogg's mid afternoon snack. Now, it was either worry about Bo or think of the girls in the classes below him. He knew many of these girls by association because of his younger cousins. Most would be easy to eliminate because they were childish and also under 18. Luke took in the surroundings of his cell and decided that any girl that wasn't about to turn 18 was out of the question. He was brought out of his thinking when Peggy said, "Luke I've got a letter for you." Luke took the letter, opened it and read, "Luke," "I can't help feeling at least a little responsible for your being there. I should have listened to the rumors about Tommy and not have went out with him. I'll be sure and tell Dad about the extra help, but what does that have to do with you staying out of trouble? I couldn't imagine not being able to leave a room and I know how much of a free spirit you are ... Jeb tried to tell me basically that you were lucky and that 'ten days wasn't too bad.' I asked him if he intended to tell you that. He said he thought you knew that already. Do you believe him????? I will save the part run for you. Sorry about the food there. I'll even buy as a welcome home present. I've got to get to bed to get up for school in the morning. Night. Dixie" Luke held the short note out from him a bit, then brought it back closer and re-read it. He'd write back to Dixie later. Many things were going through his head, as he again began to run the younger girls through his mind. He had eliminated several when Dixie Davenport came to mind.
  19. Daisy spoke up, "Beth, Honey. Come on let's go down the hall." Daisy said as she hugged Beth and started toward the restroom. Bo and Tommy's fight had caused enough disturbance in the hallway without 'airing more Duke laundry' for the whole school to see and hear. Once in the bathroom, Daisy said, "Come on Sugar, let's get your face washed off and get you calmed down." Daisy didn't like seeing Beth this upset in her condition. Beth sobbed, "Daisy, ....... he didn't have to ........ do that! ..... Now, he'll be in trouble at home and get suspended." Daisy knew Beth was right, but said, "Until you came along, Bo had never been closer to anyone than Luke. By backing down out there, he'd have been labled a coward and 'let' Tommy talk about his family." Daisy reached out to brush back Beth's hair, "And you probably don't want to hear this, or care -- right now, but had Bo backed down after you had asked him not to, well, the guys would have really given him a hard way to go. You feel in love with my cousin, with Bo Duke, Honey, you loved him as he was. Why do you want him to change now? Yes, he's your husband, but he's also the man you fell in love with. Let him be a man. A Duke man." Daisy looked into Beth's eyes, "Ask Jesse, check the records, ... no where in our family has their been a divorce. Times and trouble may follow us Dukes but we've all always had a lot of love to give in between." Beth stood taking in all that Daisy had said as the bell signaled they were late for class. 00000 Everyone's favorite teacher had sent Bo and Tommy toward the office. Bo only hoped they would be sent unescorted so he and Tommy could settle somethings before reaching the office. He'd seen Daisy at Beth's side and knew she was OK. As he glaced back, he saw there was no such luck as Kool Aid stepped in behind them. Bo sighed. This day wasn't good. In the office .......... 00000 By lunchtime, Luke had imagined a long term relationship with half his Senior class after quickly weeding out the first half for various reasons. He figured the class above him would take less time as many had married after graduation. He'd think about them after lunch. Of all the girls he'd thought of none of them could he imagine being with the rest of his life. Sometimes he envied Bo and Beth. He just hoped that they had what it would take for the long haul. So many people he'd known had got together like Bo and Beth but things didn't work out after the 'honeymoon' was over. Luke knew he was by no means ready for marriage but he would like to have a steady girl for awhile and if things worked out between them maybe in a few years he would be ready to settle down. He had to laugh. He then figured he'd better settle his act way down, steady girl or not, unless he liked his current view -- and he didn't.
  20. The next morning was pretty normal at the Duke farm with the exception of the guys having divided up Luke's chores before they all headed off to school. 00000 Luke was now thinking he had never been so bored in his life as he watched Peggy doing things to keep herself busy. There was nothing else to do but think which he sort of figured was one of the judge's reasons for putting him here. He started thinking about his actions since high school. He remembered how pleasant and down right happy his life had been when he'd had a steady girlfriend. He knew who he was picking up on Friday night and who he'd be bringing home on Friday night. Luke had gotten along so well with her family that often he'd spent the night with her brother instead of going home. He found that he actually missed her entire family, but he knew deep down they would never be able to patch things up. There had been way to much water under the bridge and Robin and Ralph seemed, ....., well, maybe not always happy, but at least they were Ok together. If that's what made her happy, then Luke would be happy for her. But he also thought of all the girls he'd taken out just to see how far he could get. 'Damn, son. You have been really lucky not to end up in the same situation as Bo.' He sighed at that thought, and asked himself, 'And what would you have done if you'd gotten more than one pregnant at the same time?' Luke had had these thoughts a couple months ago and had started laying low. He hadn't been out on a date in awhile and had also slacked off drinking. He laughed at the thought, 'and look where it got you. Locked in a cell. Good one, Luke!' Still, no one was going to call him a cheat and no one was going to try to take advantage of a girl while he was around. 'So you've gotten yourself put on six months probation when you get out of here and Rosco knows it. So, just how in the hell do you plan to stay out of trouble?' he sighed, 'Maybe just working the farm, the stills, and driving the wrecker will keep me busy enough to stay out of trouble. I'll go to the Boar's Nest and listen to the band. Now, for a steady girlfriend, ....' Luke began running all the girls in Hazzard County through his mind to try to find someone he'd like to maybe try to date steadily.... He figured that at least this would take up some time as there were a lot of girls in Hazzard County. 00000 At Hazzard High School, Bo walked Beth to her first class, gave her a kiss and started toward his first class when he heard someone yell at him across the crowded hall, "Hey, Duke." Bo turned to see none other than Tommy Smith heading toward him. "I heard your cousin's now officially a jail bird after his attack on me the other night." Tommy gloated. You could have heard a pin drop in the crowded hallway, as everyone watched for Bo's reaction. At the moment, Bo's only thought was about Tommy's statement about Luke. Bo and Luke were closer than most brothers and this guy wanted to rub it in his face that Luke was in jail because of him. Bo, ..... 000000 Cue Beth
  21. Judge Hardcastle may be gone from Hazzard but he's not forgotten. He returned to his deceased wife's estate in California. He later became a Superior Court Justice. Luke Duke kept his word not to try to contact Dixie until she was eighteen, even to tell her he was free. But, the way news travels, he was sure she knew well before her birthday, but she didn't contact him either. The last passed on word he had was that she was trying to do as he'd asked her to – to forget him. Maybe she had. Life in Hazzard wasn't quiet the same for Luke, so when his country needed him he joined the Marine Corp to do his part. Mark McCormick figured things in Hazzard were a bit to hot for him so he went chasing races in Florida. He even dreamed of making racing in a big way, maybe he'd even get a 'ride' that would take him to California. Life in Hazzard was back to 'normal' and soon the Dukes and Cooter worked out their differences and were closer than friends could possibly be. In Hazzard County, like everywhere else, if it don't kill you, it only makes you stronger. As for Dixie, word may have been out about Luke, but it didn't reach her. Each thought the other had told her. She still wore his ring and went through the motions of 'moving on' but there was a still a place for a blue eyed farm boy from Hazzard County and none of the guys who asked her out could measure up to Luke Duke. 000000000 AUTHOR'S NOTE!!! ----- If you liked this check out the Going Home series and the BJ (McKay) Goes to Hazzard to see if Luke and Dixie ever get together!!
  22. NOTE : I probably should have mentioned this before, but I will do it now. --The sentencing for Luke and Mark were fictional and doesn't apply to any State. -- As we all know THINGS are different in Hazzard! Especially, the section of Luke's court order that the Judge put in Latin! 00000 Carolyn Davenport also was awake starring at the ceiling of her room at the Hazzard hotel, where she had insisted on staying. She knew the Dukes had far to much going on to have 'company', but she had let Dixie stay with Daisy. She had talked to Luther that day. She had no more luck than Jesse Duke had when he tried to get him to see that what was done was done. She saw how much her only daughter was hurting. She could also see how much older her 'baby girl' had seemed. She was sure that Dixie thought that she loved Luke Duke. Carolyn also felt that Luke would stop at nothing to see Dixie not hurt. He'd proved that to her by going to prison to protect Dixie from the embarrassment and shame of the tests that would have had to be ran on her to prove him not guilty. Even with the slim chance that the tests may not prove his guilt, Luke had refused to make Dixie go through with them. He had signed his own one way ticket right to prison. He had asked to marry Dixie, with no strings attached. Just what else could a parent ask for from him, except that it never have happen, but no one could change that now. Carolyn would get his address and write him a long letter tomorrow, since she hadn't had the chance to talk to the young man that should have been her son-in-law, and would have been if she'd had any say so about the matter. 00000 Luke laid on his bunk in the well lit cell, even though it was late night. He was use to his room at the farm being so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face unless there was a full moon out. He laid wide awake. He had only vaguely considered ever being here, before this incident. He had figured, if he ever found himself in prison that it would have been for running moonshine. Luke spoke softly to Mark, he knew he was also still awake, "Ya know sometimes I've thought about this possibility, but I figured it would be because I was caught with a load of Jesse's finest." Mark had been alone in his own thoughts listening to the 'goings on' inside the prison. He liked to think that he and Luke were 'tough' guys, but in reality, they were a couple of young, innocent faces that screamed 'victim'. Mark heard Luke's statement, and answered, "Well, I never thought I'd be here for shine, or this. But, if I were you, the moonrunning tale is the word I'd put out, from the sounds of this place. I just don't think they'd understand your situation." Luke swallowed the massive lump in his throat, "Thanks. Actually, that's what I'd planned to do. Good to know you'll back me in it. Besides, I know that business well enough for it to be possible." 00000 Luke and Mark first sleepless night was over when the hallway lights brightened as breakfast was served to the cells. Being the intake area, the inmates weren't even allowed out of their cells for meals. The plastic trays were handed in through a slot in the bars. Luke and Mark just looked at each other as they saw their breakfast. They were both sure that it was not a Jesse Duke breakfast. On their plates were 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 slices of toast, 2 pieces of what a appeared to be bacon, a large spoon on jelly and butter, milk and coffee. As the food cart moved to the next cell, Luke said, “And you said it couldn't get worse that supper last night.†Mark replied, “It didn't. At least I know what this is supposed to be.†He took a bite of the bacon. It looked like bacon, it smelled like bacon, but it didn't taste like bacon. 00000 Jesse was up and had coffee made before the sun was up. He decided to let the kids stay in bed a bit longer this morning as he knew they were up late. He took his cup of coffee and headed out to the front porch. He opened the screen door quietly to keep from waking the kids. Then he saw Bo setting on the steps looking towards where the sun should be rising any minute now. Jesse said gently, “Bo? What time did you get up?†Bo cleared his throat as he replied, “About 2 am, when I knew that I wasn't going to be able to sleep.†Jesse nodded, “Why don't you try to get a couple hours rest at least before breakfast.†Bo shook his head, “No, thanks, Uncle Jesse. I'll just get me a shower before I start mine and Luke's chores. I think I'll skip breakfast too, if you don't mind.†Jesse did mind, but decided to go a little easy on him, “Son, not eating and sleeping won't do Luke any good and it sure won't do you any good either. At least come to the table and be with us. Meal time is a family time and we're still a family. We owe it to Luke to still be a family when he returns.†Bo choked back his tears as he asked, “Do you really think any of us will still be on this farm in twenty years?†His tears betrayed him as they ran down his cheeks. Jesse said with just a bit of an edge to his voice, “Well, I sure plan on being here. And, I expect where ever you all are then, there's not a one of you that won't be here when Luke comes home.†Bo dropped his head, and added just above a whisper, “If Luke comes home.†Jesse said sternly, “Beauregard Duke! You underestimate your cousin. He will be home. Luke is tougher than you or him knows right now.†“Uncle Jesse, he's in prison and a lot can go wrong to keep him from coming home.†Bo said with his head still hung. “We've got to believe he will be home and encourage him as best we can to help him come home to us.†Jesse said in hopes of encouraging Bo himself. Bo just nodded as he headed for the shower. 00000 Jeb was the next Duke to bring coffee to the porch in the early morning air. “I thought I heard voices, then I smelled coffee, and when I heard the shower I knew someone was awake besides me. Jesse replied with a nod, “Bo's in the shower. Found him on the steps when I came out.†“I figured he'd be in a bad way. I was going to see about him last night, but figured I was doing just as much good keeping Coy and Vance at least quiet.†Jeb replied. Jesse looked at him with worry, “Are they Ok?†Jeb replied with a sigh, “Yeah,†he shrugged his shoulders, “I guess they are in the 'cowboy and Indian' stage. They were wondering what it was like to be in jail. I told them that as long as they are in Hazzard and their name is Duke, they are likely to find out.†Jesse sighed louder than he intended, “I'd say the chance is there, alright. Let's get things started in the kitchen.†Jeb replied, “Yes, Sir.†00000 NARRATOR: “It's been sorta quiet around these parts since Luke and Mark were sent to that work farm. By my recollection it's been near to six months ago. Dixie has returned to school where her friends have supported her. But, of course there are always the ones that want you to think they are your friends. They have managed to say a few things which has caused a scuffle or two at school and also at the Boar's Nest. Old Rosco's even looked the other way a time or two when Cooter or one of the Dukes, usually Jeb, has been pushed to adjust an attitude. Now, Bo, well, he still seems lost without Luke. He's not use to being the one Jesse counts on to set a good example for the kids. He's also stepped up to take Luke's place helping Jesse both with the farm and the moonshine. Daisy has stuck by Dixie and has helped handle the girls who had something to say about either Luke or Dixie. Dixie's mother talked until she was blue in the face trying to get Dixie to go back home with her. Dixie refused to run from this and with the coming of summer break things calmed down quiet a bit. She had spent much of her time at the Dukes' instead of the garage or her Father's farm. The entire family wrote Luke and Mark regularly and always included a brief note about Daisy's 'friend', since Dixie couldn't write Luke. All was pretty much OK for Dixie until school started again. She had spent most of the summer only around the Dukes and Cooter who still wasn't himself around the Dukes. Still wearing Luke's ring, Dixie walked into Hazzard High School's gym to sign up for the Cheerleader's Squad, which she had been the Captain of last year. This should only be a formality for all the girls who were on the squad last year. As Dixie entered the gym it fell silent, but she was use to the conversation lagging when she walked into a room. She had taken out her pen to sign the sign in sheet when Ms. Brown said, 'Ms. Davenport, I need to see you a minute in my office.' They left the gym together. Once in Ms. Brown's office she began, 'Dixie I'm really glad to see you back this year, but I hate to be the one to tell you that there have been several parents approach the school about you. I've always like you and Luke Duke, but the matter remains, that parents don't want their daughter's reputation in question. They have refused to let the other's cheer this year if you are on the squad. I know this may not be fair to you and I'm sorry, but having a squad without you is better for the school than only having you as the squad. I'm really very sorry, but with that whole mess being so public there's nothing else I can do.' Dixie just turned around, walked right out of the office, out of the school, to the Davenport farm where she called her Mother. 'Mom, ... I've done all I can do to stay here and put this all past me, but they won't let me. They won't even let me cheer this year. ... Come get me. ... I'll be packed when you get here. I promise I'll never ask you to let me stay again. ... I promise I'll never come to Hazzard AGAIN! ' With that said Dixie packed her bags, when her Mother arrived she got her things from the Dukes while Jesse was working the fields and the others were in school. She left a long note for Jesse and the others and in it she asked them not to tell Luke about her leaving figuring it would be worse for him if he knew this were bad enough to cause her to leave. She asked that he be told that she was trying to do as he asked. Mark and Luke wrote less regularly, but Mark always included messages from Luke by telling them to tell Jeb's singing partner whatever it was to be said. Mark had only thought he'd seen Luke at his worst, until the message came back that Dixie was not pregnant. It seemed to Mark that whatever small bit of hope that had been keeping Luke going was stomped almost completely out. Fortunately, it hadn't been long after that the both Mark and Luke were given a jobs, which at least kept their hands busy. Luke seemed a little better since they had been working, though it was still inside the building. They would have to work inside the building for at least thirty days before going to work outside. Then, they would be there another thirty days on the inside of the fence before they could be considered for the jobs outside the fence and there was usually a wait after being cleared. Finally, after five months Luke and Mark were told they would be working with the outside crews tomorrow. Mark didn't like the look of satisfaction he saw on Luke's face. It was a little over three weeks since they had stated working that Mark learned why he didn't like the look on Luke's face...†00000 It was getting quiet or as quiet as you can expect it to get in a prison when Luke turned onto his side and looked at Mark who was at the small desk in the cell. “You may not want to hear all this, but you need to know that you may not want to be working real close to me tomorrow.†Luke let the statement fall and waited. Mark had stopped writing, bit his lip, dropped his head, before letting out a loud sigh, “Luke.†was all he said. “Listen, I've got a plan. It very well may not work, and you've got more riding on this than me, so I'll understand if you tell me to just shut up now.†Luke said. Mark replied quietly, “No, I'm not going to tell you to shut up. I want you to talk to me and tell me what it will accomplish, other than getting in more trouble or maybe killed.†He saw the look that came across Luke's face. It was blank. Uncaring. Every bit of emotion was gone as he began to speak... “What difference does it make? I won't get out of here until I'm forty plus, now. Do you think I'll have anything to go back to?†'Oh brother!' Mark thought, 'he's in a bad way and I've got to try to figure out what to say in the next seven hours to make him change his mind.' Mark took in a deep breath and said, “Luke that farm has been in the Duke family for two hundred years. I've heard Jesse say that before. You know Jesse will be right there waiting for you and no matter what, Bo and the others will be there when you get home. Hell, if I make it home first I'll even be there. Besides, what am I supposed to do if you aren't here?†“You'll manage just like I will when you go before Hardcastle in another six months and walk away from all this.†Luke said. He was glad that Mark would be going home. No one should be here and he fully realized it could be very worse. Luke had made up his mind that he wasn't going to stay here without seeing Dixie again. “Look, I know I was being selfish but Luke think about what it will do to Dixie, Jesse, Bo, all of them if you pull this off, especially if it turns out bad. Come on Luke, you know things were just getting calmed down for Dixie. You know she should be starting school what? This week? You know they will figure you'll be heading straight for her. If your plan works they will be waiting for you.†Mark had begun one of the five longest nights of his life and when breakfast was served he still wasn't certain the Luke wouldn't make good on his plan. 00000 NARRATOR: “You know life is funny. It seems we can all just go clicking right along without missing a beat, but when things start flying apart, everything goes hay wire all at once. See it was the same early morning that Mark is trying to talk some sense into Luke that Dixie had left Hazzard. But I think there's still a few surprises to come ...†00000 The guard came to the cell and said, “Duke, McCormick. Let's go.†Luke and Mark exited the cell and turned right toward where they exited for work detail. The guard looked at them a bit confused, “This way.†he said pointing the opposite direction. Looking rather confused themselves, the guys let themselves be directed up the large hallway and out a door they had never exited before. They were a bit surprised to be taken back to the intake area. They were directed to strip out and dress in orange rather than the prison gray they were wearing. The guard put on them both a leather belt with handcuffs attached, handcuffed them and then placed shackles on them both. They were then directed out to a second and third officer who put them in a transport van. After the van cleared the front gate of the prison, Luke asked, “Ah, I take it we're not working today?†The driver replied, “Well, if you want to go to work and stand up the judge, ... we'll go back and I'll let explain that to him.†Mark and Luke looked at each other and asked together, “Judge?†The officer that was the passenger replied, “Yeah, you know, Judge Hardcastle. He sent in this transportation order three times in the last two weeks. You all got a copy.†He said like it were a fact. Mark replied, “No. The last order I got from him was the one that got me here.†The driver groaned and said to the other officer, “Those people in records are absolutely useless. See if these guys weren't workers they wouldn't have been ready to go and we'd been late again getting out of there.†then to Mark and Luke, “When records gets these orders they are suppose to send you a copy of it. We've had problems lately with them not doing so. Sorry about that fellas.†Right about then it hit Luke just how close he had come to making an escape attempt. He found himself break out in a cold sweat. Though, he had no clue why the judge was asking for him now but he was sure glad it was before he'd made his try rather than after. Mark saw Luke suddenly go pale and figured what he was thinking. He simply said, “Add this little trip right on the bottom of that long list of things I gave you last night.†Mark was surprised to at this unexpected trip. He hadn't expected this for another six months. 00000 In Hazzard County the van pulled up to the Courthouse, Luke was the first out of the van and couldn't help but steal a glance toward the garage. Busy as usual but no sign of any one, especially Dixie. To both Luke and Mark, Hazzard never looked and smelled so good. Inside, they were taken right back to the judges' office without so much as even getting to see Rosco or Boss Hogg for that matter. Judge Hardcastle instructed the transportation officers to remove the handcuffs from Luke and Mark and wait outside. Once the officers had given the judge the requested paperwork they exited the office. “Well, let's have a look at these papers and we'll get on with this.†After several minutes Hardcastle said, “Well, I see that you've both been working and it appears doing well. I'm pleased to see that there have been no problems. Now, before we go on record here today, I'll explain a few things to you. As you saw, no one knows about these hearings today but us and the Department of Corrections. I arranged that for a couple of reasons. First, I knew if there had been problems of any kind that seeing everyone would have made it much harder for you to go back. Secondly, I didn't want to give anyone the chance to object to what I have planned for today. Thirdly, I did it to peeve Rosco off.†he said with a grin. They all enjoyed a laugh. For Mark and Luke it was the first genuine laugh they had had in six months. Hardcastle reached in his desk and poured two large shots of Jack Daniels, handed them to Mark and Luke, and took his seat on his desk. He noticed that both young men's hands were just a bit shaky as they took their drinks into their hands. “Drink up.†Both had learned from being in his court that this was not done often but when it was it wasn't a trick, so the both eagerly took the drink, finishing it in one drink. Hardcastle almost got up and refilled their glasses right then, as he saw how nervousness they both were feeling, but he opted to wait just a few more minutes. “Ok, so I take it that you all learned that there are worse places than Rosco's lockup?†It was Luke that spoke first, “I'd give about anything to be back in this jail.†Mark quickly seconded this, “Me, too.†Hardcastle got a glum look on his face and said with concern, “Humm, really. Well, I can do a lot of things but that, well, it's probably too late for that. I didn't know how attached you were to being locked up twenty four hours, seven days a week.†He shook his head and studied the situation, “I would have figured that you'd much rather be home than in any lock up. I wasn't aware that you could become institutionalized so quickly. I'm sorry boys.†He had said all this so quick that Mark and Luke were having a hard time understanding what was going on. Mark asked, “What?†Luke said, “Sorry, for what?†Hardcastle reached on his desk and picked up two neatly typed pages and then, continued, “I said, I figured that you both would rather be home than locked up.†he clucked his teeth, and finished his sentence, “I guess I'll just have to tear up these release orders.†Both Mark and Luke's mouth's dropped wide open as Hardcastle explained. “See, fellas, I had to satisfy justice by finding you all guilty because of your pleas, but the evidence would have been there anyway. So, to also satisfy Mr. Davenport and the Hotel owners I sentenced you according to State code, but they are experimenting with this new program called 'shock incarceration' in other places where someone is sentenced under the guidelines. If they do well, they are released in a fraction of the time. If they don't well, then they finish the time as sentenced. I'm really glad there was no incidents with either of you.†As Hardcastle talked, Mark saw Luke go ghost white. Hardcastle hadn't said it, yet, but they knew he was holding the key to their freedom in his hand on those papers. “I hadn't intended to do this for another six months, but I'll be leaving for California soon. This will be my last official duty before I take a few days to fish and relax before I head back home. I've been here too long and it's time I get back there. Besides there are far more criminals out there. It's not any fun doing this job when legal isn't always totally right. I wish you both well, stay out of trouble. Luke, there is one thing I will have to hold you too, breaking it will get you sent right back to the prison side of that work farm. Dixie is still under age. Have no contact with her until after she turn eighteen which shouldn't be long now.†Hardcastle stated. “Isn't that going to be quiet impossible with Hazzard being so small?†Luke asked. Hardcastle dropped his eyes for just a second before asking. “I'm sorry, but I found out just a short while ago that she has left Hazzard.†Luke felt as though he'd been kicked. Hardcastle said, “I had no idea about this until just a bit ago. I am sorry, but it should make things easier for you to not run into her.†Luke said very lowly, “Yeah, yeah it will.†Hardcastle said sternly, “Luke, it's in the order. I might be in California, but any judge anywhere can send you back if you violate this order. Hasn't it been hard enough on everyone concerned already. If you violate this section of the release order there will be no second chance, no parole, nothing. It will be the entire twenty years locked up. It's that or just stay away from her what about eighteen months? Then, you both will be able to make your own choices and you'll be back home in your own bed tonight. Don't be stupid.†Mark jumped in, “Luke there is nothing to think about here. You'll be free today and for the rest of the twenty years that you thought you'd be locked up.†Both saw the tension drain from Luke's body as he sighed, “Yeah, you are both right. Judge, you are really going to make this 'go away'? You can do that?†Hardcastle replied, “As long as you agree to stay away from Ms. Davenport, I am. Yes, I can do that. I am even sealing the record on this like we do for juvenile's. You plead guilty to a crime that a lot of people elsewhere wouldn't understand what really happened. Unless you break this by contacting Ms. Davenport, it will never show up on your record anywhere, nor will it stop you from gaining employment or joining the military should you consider it in the future.†The judge took in the young men in front of him. “I take that we all understand each other?†Both nodded their agreement. “Well,†he said reaching for the bottle of Jack Daniels, he pour three glasses and passed tow to Mark and Luke along with their release papers, “You are both officially released from custody of the Department of Corrections and I am now officially resigned. Cheers.†He raised his glass to the young men. They also raised their glasses. “Now, we'll get those guys in here to get their remaining jewelry. I'll give them a copy of these orders and I'll drive you out to Jesse's so you can get out of those orange jump suits and maybe I can talk Jesse into going fishing with me.
  23. Glad you like the updates!!! Sometimes LIFE getsin the way of FF But you can count on us updating sooner or later!!! I will be out of town until Tuesday evening /night so I hope to get to write as soon as I get back Dixie
  24. Bo wanted to disagree with her, but didn't want to lie either. He said, "Yes, I could have been. Sunshine, I won't lie to you. Had I been there and he been out numbered, I would have jumped in, just like Jeb, Coy, Vance, and even Daisy would have. But, Luke would have done the same for me or them." "You would choose backing Luke to being home with me?" Beth asked hurt. "Never, Honey. But, my loyality belongs where it's most needed at the time." Bo tried to explain. "What about the consequences?" Beth asked. "I just deal with them after all the chips have fallen." he replied. Beth managed to say, "Even if it means going to jail?" Bo reached to put his arm around her. He knew she'd not like his reply, "Yes." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dixie checked the mail on her way in from school as always, but she was surprised to fine a letter addressed to her without a return address on it. Her hopes went up thinking it may be from Luke Duke, but she was sure he'd not write her back. It was probably from one of her old friends from home who had gotten the address from her Mother, but for no reason she tucked the letter safely in her book she was carrying. After supper and her bath, Dixie said her 'goodnights' to Cooter and her Dad. In her room, she opened her book, took out the letter, got under her covers, and slowly began opening the letter. Once it was open she saw a note written as what must have been an after thought on the folder paper, "Oh, yeah, Rosco said next time put a return address on your letter. Guess he wants to be noisy! Luke" She couldn't help but smile at the note. Then her smile grew, 'He had written back!' she thought. Then another question popped in her head, 'How did Rosco or Luke for that matter know she'd write again, when even she hadn't known, until right now.' The letter read, "Dixie, Don't feel at all responsible for my actions. I don't regret anything other than my timing. I told you I'd take care of him and I would have sooner if I'd ran into him. It was only luck, maybe dumb luck that it happened right before I went to court. I made my decisions, fully aware of the consequences, and I'd do the same thing again. None of this is your fault. Tell your Dad, that if he wants extra help for at least the next six months I'm available. Got to find something to do to keep me out of trouble unless I want to be here longer, and I really don't. Guess I'm just too use to getting in the General and going when I want to. The cell I'm in is smaller than half of my bedroom at home. I'm just not used to having the door locked so that I can't leave, I guess. Don't worry about visiting. I'll be home Monday and you don't need to be here. Save the part run for Monday and we'll go get them in Atlanta and maybe grab a bite to eat. I'm sure anything we can fine will out do whatever they call supper here. Luke" Luke's words had made her smile, yet some had filled her eyes with tears. She got out her stationary and wrote, "Luke," That was as far as she got for a long while. She was trying to think of how to answer all that Luke had said and also what he hadn't said. Finally, she began: "I can't help feeling at least a little responsible for your being there. Night. Dixie"
