A Facebook post. A dramatic illustration showing the heart-stopping moments as the Titanic split in two in the silent night ocean. ⛴️💔 Fun Fact: > Although often depicted as breaking apart in films, the truth that the Titanic broke into two pieces was only scientifically proven in 1985 after its wreckage was found on the seabed. (Photo of the ship breaking. Bow underwater separating from the stern.) My comment: It did break up. But it's always depicted as sinking whole in movies pre 1997 James Cameron. Because by '97 we knew for a fact that she broke up, and Cameron portrayed it that way. Movies pre '97 like A Night to Remember (1958) based on the Walter Lord book of the same name were filmed before the wreck was discovered. Nobody knew it broke up in spite of eyewitness who saw it break and said that it did. They were not believed. When the wreck was discovered by Dr. Robert Ballard on 9/1/85, history would change forever what we thought we knew about the Titanic. -
