Days of Shine and Romance!

Luke was glad that he was driving alone tonight. He really didn't feel like hearing Bo tonight. He was trying to keep his mind on what he was supposed to be doing here, but Lori wanting to run shine really had bothered him. If was something they should have talked about before hand, but he just never thought it would be a problem. He was the husband and should be making the living. Whether that meant farming or running shine.

Bo looked at Jesse and said, "So, what do you think? Was Luke right?"

Jesse studied the question and tried to remain neutral, "Bo, that is there business. They are a family now and it's not our place to take sides."

Bo replied, "Well, I think he is. I woun't want my wife running no shine."

Jeb added, "Me either, but she done it before. Why not now?"

"Just because!" Bo said.

Jesse said, "Well, I'll tell you both that I've known both your Mother's and Luke's to have went on runs when things weren't expected to be bad and they even helped out quiet a bit at the stills."

Lori in the meantime was still stewing about being told to stay home.

Luke sighed as he helped Uncle Jesse unload the last of the shine, taking the money. Luke looked to Jesse and said,"Do I honestly have to go back home...I know she's plottin my death right now....."

Jesse only laughed and patted his shoulder. Luke whined and climbed back in.

When they arrived home Luke out and smelled the food. Bo looked to him and said,"If she poisoned it cause of you, I'll murder you!"

Luke gulped and walked in. Lori was setting on the couch reading. Luke sighed and smiled, good she wasn't pissed anymore. OR so he thought she wasn't.

They all sat down Luke beside of Lori. Dasiy, Bo, Jeb on one side. Luke, Lori, and Coy on the other, and Vance at one end as was Uncle Jesse on the other. They said grace and began to eat. They all smiled to Lori and thanked her. Luke was trying to thank her under the table by running his hand up her leg only to find that he was getting smacked back. He tried playing footsie with her, she kicked him in the shin causing him to choke once.

When everyone was finished eating Lori did the dishes and didn't speak to Luke. Daisy was laughing on the inside but didn't show it on the outside.

After supper, Luke followed Lori to the porch and sat beside her he pulled her close to him and tried to get her in the mood and started kissing on her neck and rubbing her shoulders, Lori admitted it..it drove her crazy..she felt the desire to tear into him and have a go with him right there on the porch, but instead she got up and sighed walking in.

When bedtime rolled around it was like being at the Walton's house, everyone saying good night and all. Lori changed into a short slip..and Luke in his boxers, he took one glance at her and shuddered, he hoped and prayed that she wouldn't be mad when she laid down.

Lori laid down and turned the light off sleeping away from Luke. Luke was dying as he looked down at the covers on his side.... he whined and tried to go to sleep.

That next morning........

That next morning, Luke woke up before Lori. He gently sat up and looked at her sleeping. She still had her back to him the way she had went to sleep. He was still getting used to waking up beside her. He leaned over her and began kissing her shoulders. He brushed her hair away and began kissing the back of her neck while he layed on his side behind her. Luke knew Lori wasn't awake yet, but she was snuggling closer to his touches. He reached around her and put his hand under her gown...

Lori was waking up, she was warm and comfortable. She felt Luke's touches and wanted him badly. She was about to roll over towards him when she realized she had been mad at him the night before. Lori debated for a split second giving into his touches, but it was a matter of principal. She set up, flipping the covers off her as she went, grabbed her robe and headed to the bathroom.

Luke figured she'd be back in a couple minutes and that she had just had to go to the bathroom. He layed back waiting.

Lori came out of the bathroom and went to the kitchen where Jesse was already up, "Morning Uncle Jesse." She said as she poured her coffee.

Jesse replied, "Morning." He took a drink of coffee and realized he hadn't heard Luke up yet, which wasn't normal. He was usually the first of the 'kids' up. "What's that husband of your's doing sleeping in?"

Lori sighed, "No, actually, he probably thinks I'm coming back."

Jesse looked at her over his coffee cup.

"Do you believe he wouldn't LET me go last night?" Lori asked.

Jesse looked to her and smiled and replied,"Well he does love you and he probably didn't think you were mad at him."

Lori sighed and nodded, Luke still hadn't got up yet.

Luke was still laying in the bed waiting on Lori to return when she didnt he set up and covered up staring at the edge of the bed. Lori sighed and went back in. "Luke??"

Luke looked to her and sighed,"I wanted to hold you near me last night and you wouldnt let me.... you hate me."

Lori sighed and sat her coffee on the edge of the table,"No sweetie I dont I jut dont want you to snap at me like that.... it aint gonna kill me to run some runs with you."

Luke sighed and didnt feel like fighting he only nodded and tried to get up, but the sight of seeing Lori take her slip off caught him. Lori smiled and said,"Wanna finish what you started this mornin?"

Luke smiled wide and said,"More than you know.."

Lori laid back and the bed began to shake.

Uncle Jesse could hear the muffled moans and giggles and growls coming from their room and shook his head laughing.

Jesse was still smiling remembering the joys of being newly married as Bo walked in the kitchen.

He too could hear the sounds coming through the thin walls of the small house. Bo asked, "Ah, ...... should I take it they made up?"

Jesse said, "Well, I'd say that's a safe bet."

Bo wondered out loud, "Wonder who won?"

Jesse grinned a bit, "Maybe they both did. It'll take them awhile to decide what is worth fighting about and what's best to just compromise on."

"What's awhile?" Bo asked.

Jesse loved young people, "Oh they should pretty well have it worked out in say fifty or sixty years unless they are stubborn."

Bo looked at Jesse hoping he was kidding.

The Dukes were about to settle down for breakfast, when Luke and Lori came into the kitchen. All it took was one look around the room and Luke knew everyone in the room knew he and Lori had made up rather nicely. Luke sighed and just gave them the look of the cat that just got caught with the family canary in his mouth. He shook his head turned to Lori and wrapped his arms around her and said, "I can do that now. I do have a license now."

Everyone in the room cracked up at his remark.

They were finishing the last of the evening chores. Bo was hot and thristy. He looked to Jeb and Luke and said, "Whew! What do you all say about heading out for a beer before supper?" Before he could be answered, Bo shook his head and said, "Ah, dang it! Sorry Luke. Guess you won't be going huh?"

Luke looked at him like he was crazy, "Sure I'll go. Why wouldn't I?"

Jeb replied, "Sounds good to me!"

They all headed to the General Lee and drove off. Figuring to grab a beer and still be back before supper.

Daisy laughed and shook her head. Lori'd get even with him... she figured if he could leave without notice so could she. She did the dishes and waited for them to get back.

B.L. meanwhile had heard of this Home Economics class, even gots to were you take a baby home with ya, B.L. grinned evily and headed to town, signing Luke and Lori Duke on the list laughing.

When Luke arrived home he kissed Lori and went to the bathroom. Lori was in her jeans and a low cut tank top, with her boots on. She walked out and left, her and Daisy both. She went to the Boar's Nest and saw Cooter.

Cooter smiled and hugged her,"Howdy Cousin...seems like ages since I last seen ya."

Lori smiled and said,"Well Cooter, its only been a day or so."

Cooter nodded and said,"The house was quiet this morning..."

Lori laughed and nodded, ordering a coke. Cooter looked to her,"Uhh I saw Luke here while ago.."

Lori nodded,"I know it.... He never bothered to tell me either... just took off."

Cooter whislted low and said,"I take it thats why yer here huh?"

Lori nodded and smiled. they sat and talked fer a while. Lori had told Jesse she'd grab her a bite at the Boar's Nest, she was sorta hoping she run into B.L. or Dixie or Cooter. Uncle Jesse agreed and all.

Luke however didn't like the fact that she took off and never told him so he finished cleaning up and did what any young red blooded new husband would do when he figured his new wife who was a bit of an attention getter would do. He told Jesse, "I'll eat later. Sorry ya'll, but I got to go."

They all knew he was going to follow Lori.

Bo looked at Jesse, "You said fifty or sixty years? I'm betting on longer IF they don't kill each other!"

Jesse shook his head.

At the Boar's Nest Lori was sipping her Coke talking to Cooter when Luke walked in. He scanned the bar and found his wife talking to her cousin. Relief that she hadn't managed to start any trouble washed over Luke and he took a deep breath and tried to remain calm as he took a seat by Lori.

Daisy had to laugh seeing Luke come in. It hadn't taken him long to clean up and follow them.

Lori looked to Luke and smiled,"Hey Darlin.."

Luke said, "Hey, yourself. Can I buy my wife and cousin a beer?"

Lori almost spit out her coke, she hadn't told Luke about her thinking that she could be pregnant. Cooter stood by and lowered his hat over his eyes, Lori looked to Luke and said,"Uhh....I think a coke is better for me..Lori added,"So why exactly did you follow me?

Luke didn't think anything about her drinking coke instead of beer. He replied, to her, "Just wanted to make sure you were Ok. You know how trouble can start here in the blink of an eye." he placed the order with Daisy who was working.

Lori looked to Luke and nodded, "Yea it certainly can.."

Luke wasn't sure of her the tone she was using, but she had agreed with him.

Cooter was sure he was setting way too close to both them, but Luke had bought him a beer, so he'd stay awhile.

The band had started playing. Luke figured to maybe make th ebest of the evening, "Care to dance Honey?"

Lori replied, "Sure Darlin'. " They left Cooter to his beer and went to dance.

Cooter had felt the tension between them. He sighed in relief that they hadn't gotten into it, yet, and sipped his beer.

Being that it was Monday night, which was teen night, it wasn't unusual to have several teens there. So, no one was surprised to see Dixie walk in escorted by none other than Jeb Duke. Jeb had joined a table of some of his friends and ordered a beer for him and a Coke for Dixie.

Luke and Lori returned to the table with Cooter. Luke spotted Jeb and Dixie, nodded to Cooter, giving him and 'ain't they cute' look.

Lori saw this and decided to just watch for awhile.

Luke and Cooter were talking car parts. Lori went to the restroom. Luke turned to order another round of drinks when he he saw Jeb take a drink of beer. Luke knew he was old enough to drink but felt he shouldn't be drinking having to drive Dixie home. Instead of flagging down a waitress, Luke told Cooter, "I'll be back." He walked over to Jeb and motioned him to the bar. Luke said to Jeb once they were there, "If you are driving home, don't you think you better switch to something other than beer?"

Jeb replied, "I had planned to, Luke."

Luke said, "OK just checking."

Lori saw Luke and Jeb at the bar talking. She asked Cooter, "What's up over there?"

Cooter dropped his head and was thinking,"Ohhhh sh**!," but instead said,"Luke was uhh checking on Jeb to make sure he didn't drink tooo much."

Lori nodded and said,"On count of Dixie."

Cooter swallowed hard and sighed,"This gonna cause ya'll to fight?"

Lori answered honeslty sipping the coke,"Probably..."

Cooter shook his head and sipped his beer.

Luke saw that Lori was back and sat beside her Lori looked to him and shook her head. Luke was thinking,"What have I done now?. and then he thought again,"Ohhh lord maybe she knows why I talked to Jeb.. sh** im deader than 4:00!"

Lori looked to Luke and then to Dixie and said,"Im going home k?" and got up and left.

He followed her out side. "Lori. What? I would have been ok to have stayed home tonight. You are the one who wanted to come here. I came to make sure you wre ok. I can leave too?"

Lori nodded to him,"Yea...I aint stoppin ya.."

She got in and pulled out heading home. Luke followed her, as they arrived the house light to their room was on. They tried to make their way through the house with less noise as possible but didn't succeed. Luke hit a chair and Lori bumped into him, both chuckling and giggling.

Lori slipped in their room and tripped over the night stand,"I swear someone spiked my Coke!!! hehehe!!"

Luke tried not to let her know he was laughing and was glad neither one had turned on the light yet.

Lori could sense he was laughing at her and twirled around only to hit him, she laughed and went,"OWW!! YOU HURT MY FACE!!

Luke grabbed her arms to keep her from falling. "I hurt you? You ran into me! By the way why were you only drinking Coke? or was it spiked with something?" He was beginnign to wonder since she was acting a bit giddy. He thought after several beers if anyone should be tripping over their feet it should be him.

Lori bit her tongue and doubled over in laughter,"I don't know!!! hehehehe!!!"

Lori looked to him and walked around as if to inspect him. "Luke?? are you like a machine..cetain buttons..,"She smacked his rear end,"You push..you get some sort of reaction.."

Luke gave her a strange look. She was acting a bit tipsy, but replied, "What kind reaction you lookin' for, Darlin'?"

Lori looked a bit sly and replied,"A different reaction than the ones ive always gotten hotstuff..."

Luke grinned from ear to ear, picked her up and put her on the bed. He began to undress her as he proceeded to nibble every spot on her body that he knew or thought might be ticklish! Lori squirmed and squealed as he did.

Luke tried not to spoil the moment by saying,"Hush baby..or you'll wake the whole county up!"

Lori giggled and squirmed more, screaming into a pillow. Luke bout near passed out on her. Lori was giggling and sighing and groaning all at once. Luke was fightin tryin not to laugh at her giggling, it sounded like a squirrel.

Lori jumped a little and squealed,"Ouch!! dang it!"

Luke looked to her and continued,"What?"

"that hurt"

"im sorry"

"can't you control it no better?"

" im tryin!"

"OUCH!!"

"what now?"

"you dided it again"

"dided?"

"shut up!"

Luke sighed and laughed as he was finished for the nigth. He kissed her as she lay asleep on his arm snoring.

Jesse was in the kitchen when Luke entered alone, he said, "You know I still remember being a newlywed myself! I'm sure glad you two are working things out!" Jesse smiled at Luke with a knowing expression.

At the Davenports, Cooter was waiting on Dixie, when she got up. He began, "Ah, so how was your, ...... date? Last night?"

Dixie replied, "Well, it was good but it was just me and Jeb hanging out with our friends."

Before Luke could answer Lori sprang through the house dressed in her normal t-shirt and sweats and sprang off the couch and on to Luke's back,"HEY EVERYBODY!!!!!"

Luke was glad he had good reflexes as he caught Lori in mid air. He mumbled, "Sh--! What if I'd dropped you?"

Lori giggled and kissed him with a big ole smack! "I wouldve fell and went BOOM!"

Luke shook his head and said, "Yes you would have!"

Uncle Jesse looked to Lori with his eyes wide and his mouth held tightly shut. He tried sooo hard not to laugh cause to watch her dance around the living room then the kitchen was unbearable. He looked to Luke,"Although I don't quite remember yer aunt doing that.... Luke, is she ok??"

Luke gritted his teeth before answering. Then, he replied, "I certainly hope so, Uncle Jesse, I certainly hope so!"

Lori walked back in from the outside and said,"Its a tad bit nippy.... im cold now...coffee!!!"

Luke made a high dive for the coffee pot tripping over Uncle Jesse's chair trying to keep her away from it,"NO NO COFFE FOR YOU...ITS BAD FOR LORI!!"

Uncle Jesse was literally flipping back in his chair laughing. Luke looked to his uncle and shook his head, he then picked her up and carried her to the room and plopped her in the bed. "You stay here.... don't move."

Lori bit her finger and nodded sticking her tongue out. Luke said,"I swear I...I'll never.... just..are all women that bad with marriage?"

Uncle Jesse was about to reply when he saw Lori poke her head up through the kitchen window, scaring the piss outta luke.

Lori giggled and said,"HEY! LUKAS!!!! COME OUTSIDE AND PLAY ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!"

Luke rolled his eyes at Jesse, and replied, "I'll, .... ah, ..... be, ..... right back!"

Luke ran outside screaming after her,"LOREN CRYSTAL DAVENPORT!!! WILL YOU GET BACK OVER HERE IN THIS HOUSE NOW!!!"

Uncle Jesse was laughing as Bo adn Jeb came in as did the others. they looked to one another and then to Luke carrying Lori in his arms by his side, Lori giggled and went,"Hoooowdy fellers!!"

Everyone cracked up.

Luke was NOT HAPPY! He entered their room. Shut the door, locked it and tossed her on the bed....."Lori. What is going on? You are acting really strange!"

Lori laughed and fell back on the bed and sighed,"Ta be honest hotstuff, I aint quite sure....why a little embarrassed??"

Luke shook his head and replied, "No. I'm beginning to be more concerned than embarrassed. Talk to me? Honey?"

Lori gigled,"Honey?? that sounds good right about now.... I dont know Luke I honeslty dont...I figured you'd be happy that im happy...." she giggled and hid her face with the pillow.

"Lori, Honey, I'm always glad you are happy, but to be quiet honest, you act like you are on something, not just happy!" Luke said with concern.

Lori looked to Luke and shook her head,"You really want to know that bad dont you?"

Luke looked at her seriously, "Yes. Yes, I do. Tell me, please what is going on?"

Lori looked to Luke and through the softest brown eyes with tears in them,"I..ah,...I... think Im preg....pregnant."

Luke wasn't prepared for her answer. It didn't explain her actions over the past couple of days, but it got his attention! Luke replied, "You think WHAT?"

Lori took his hand and pulled him to her to set with her on the side of the bed,"I think I'm pregnant..... I've been tryin to hide it these last couple of days from you....afraid..."

Luke closed his eyes and bit his lip before replying, "Afraid? Afraid of? Hide it from me, WHY?"

Lori cried and hit the pillows,"Afraid you'll over react and be mad, and thats ALL we need right now!!"

Luke tried to keep his voice down, "Over react? What makes you think I'd over react? Just because I made it clear that if we got married I didn't want kids anytime soon. Just because you have been telling me you had it 'under control' that I didn't need protection? Just because YOU tricked ME into getting you pregnant AGAIN, I shouldn't over react?"

Lori looked to him stunned,"I NEVER TRICKED YOU INTO IT LUKE...."

"Sure seemed da---ed strange that I used protection ever since Caitlyn Marie, and everything was FINE! Since we got married you TOLD me you had it under control! And, now LOOK! You THINK you are PREGNANT again! We still don't know why we lost Caitlyn! #^)%)_*_@*$_*+@(+! He uttered several explicits, turned and walked!:" Luke was so very afraid that what ever had went wrong with Caitlyn would go wrong again, before they hed a chance to know why. He stormed out of the house!

Lori opened up the window and looked to Luke walking off, "Luke!!! ******* WILL YOU LET ME EXPLAIN TO YOU IT AINT LIKE THAT!!!!!!"

Luke kept walking. He knew they would be running from still site 5 tonight, so he headed that way to wait.

Luke arrived at the site and started drinking the shine. When Bo and Jeb arrived, Luke was ready to go so he took off, leaving the radio off, Bo and Jeb were trying to catch up to him, When the blue lights flashed. Agent Roach was blocking their way and caught them.

Luke had turned to see where Bo and Jeb was. He saw the lights of the cruisers. He checked the radio whic was turned off. Luke cursed! He turned the radio on to hear Agrent Roach radio for him. Luke sighed and cursed. Agent Roach said, "Duke we have your cousins and the load. We know yo are involved. Turn yourself in now or face the consequences!"

Luke swore! He flipped radio cahnnels and tried to raise Bo or Jeb with no luck.

Luke turned the car and headed back t where Bo and JEb were stopped/ He saw the shine on the ground and saw them be put into the patrol car. Luke thougth of Lori and his expected child IF she told him the truth. He knew they atarted the run together and would finish it. He said aloud, "Lori, forgive me. I got to go to them!" he headed back to the apot where BO and Jeb where being arrested to turn himself in.

They notified Uncle Jesse who went down to see the boys. Bo and Jeb pointed to Luke saying it was his fault. Luke looked to uncle Jesse and told him. Uncle Jesse looked to them and said,"Well get use to these cell walls boys..."

Meanwhile Lori had stayed in hers and Luke's room listening, alomost asleep she heard the ATF run a liscense plate CNH-320.She knew that was the General's Tags and likely Luke driving him!

Lori hadn't been the only one listening to the radio, when Luke's tags were ran. Dixie had heard the tags ran and with the following transmissions she knew who ever had been driving had been arrested. She dressed quickly and headed for town.

Jeb had went in the cell with Bo leaving Luke alone in the cell beside them.

When Uncle Jesse looked at Bo and Jeb , they pointed to Luke. Meaning that it was his fault.

Uncle Jesse had looked to them and said,"Well get use to these cell walls boys..."

Jesse words hit Luke like a swift kick to the stomach!

Luke told Jesse, "It was mostly my fault. I wasn't paying a hundred percent attention."

Jeb asked, "Is that why I yelled for you 3 times without an answer?"

Luke huffed, "I expect ya'll are gonna say I got ya'll caught?" Luke paused, "Then why did I get away, scott free and came back to you two?"

Jesse looked to Bo who confirmed Luke's story!

Meanwhile Dixie and Lori were just pulling up at the courthouse and walking up the steps. Cooter just happened to be standing at the garage door looking out over the town when he spotted them. He turned looking over his shoulder at B.L's feet sticking out from under a car Luther had come down with the flu so B.L was helping Cooter out that way the newly married Duke couple could spend the extra time together. Even though it was way past closing time the two had wanted to finish up some things. Cooter said to B.L

"C'mon B somethin's goin on over at the jail house and whatever it is I betcha Luke's involved both Lori and Dixie just walked in."

B.L was out from under the car on the creeper quicker'n you can say jack rabbit hitting her head on the back bumper as she sat up... "Oww" was all she said as she rubbed her head and grabbed Cooter by the hand literally dragging him toward the court house saying.

"C'mon hurry up we don't wanna miss the fire works."

Cooter did his best to keep up with B.L his legs may have been longer and he could out run her but she was like a woman possessed as she dragged him across the square and up the courthouse steps and inside where they saw both Lori and Dixie......

Both Lori and Dixie were looking at each other Lori looked to Dixie and shook her head,"Figured youd be here."

Dixie retorted back,"Well see I thought you'd be out scewing some other guy tonight and I figured Luke needed someone."

Lori looked to Dixie and said,"Ohhh I already did that, by the way tell Jeb I'd like my underwear back."

Lori rolled her eyes, she thought how stupid could Dixie be. Dixie looked to Lori like she was on crack!

Lori saw Jesse talking to the officers, Lori went downstairs to were the boys were at and looked to Luke who happened to look up at her. Dixie had tumbled down the stairs to go and see "Jeb". Lori rolled her eyes and went to Luke's cell and propped up against it and said,"Welp... when you say if its gonna be anyone gonna get caught runnin shine in this house its gonna be me, you sure do mean it don't ya?"

Luke sighed and got up going to the bars,"Im sorry, I couldn't let Bo or Jeb get caught and not me, all cause I wasn't paying attention, because I was thinking about why you tricked me to get you pregnant!"

Dixie was enjoying this wayy to much. Lori looked to Dixie and looked to Luke,"Soon as eavedropper over there leaves I'll tell ya what I was trying to explain to ya before!"

Dixie looked to Lori and said,"Well surely to me cousin anything you can say to Luke you can say to me, Bo, and Jeb."

B.L. and Cooter were up top listening in and snickering.

Lori looked to Dixie,"If I wanted my business spread around Hazzard, no worser than what it already is, then I'll tell you, cause I know you you'll run to B.L. and flap yer jaws and she'll run her big mouth to the county!"

B.L. was insulted and her mouth dropped. Cooter laughed. Uncle Jesse looked to them and shooed them home. B.L and Cooter went outside and said,"I think we may have a married couple, a cousin, and two friends in jail here soon."

Cooter agreed and they ran back to the garage.

Lori looked to Luke and shook her head,"You are aware just how MUCH time you'll do now right?"

Luke swallowed and nodded,"Well yes.....I've been told all this before."

Lori nodded and sighed looking through the bars,"Why Luke??"

Luke looked to her and answered honestly,"You....I wasn't paying attention..."

Lori sighed and looked to Bo and Jeb and said,"Sorry fellers I got ya'll caught..."

Bo and Jeb looked to her then glared to Luke," It's A-OK Lor....."

Lori saw the looks and lowered her head. Dixie looked to Luke adn gave him that same look she gave him that night he took her in his arms. it went Unmissed by Lori. Luke looked to her the samy way, and ohhh boy folks.

Lori looked to Luke and said,"Ohh...ta give ya something to think bout..why yer spending time in jail..me and this youngin be at home waitin...I got pregnant wayyy BEFORE the wedding! I went to Doc's and he told me...I've not been going to the Doc's here lately because of YOU..I was afraid you'd find out and get mad??!!!!"

Luke's face was burning up,"Y..you mean that's way you told me you had it taken care of?"

Lori nodded and said,"I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid I'd lose this one like Caitlyn Marie..last time I was at Doc's though, he said it was doing fine and growing normally, but seems to me you really could care less about me or the kid...told ya something was going on with you and Dixie.."

Luke knew she saw look and had to tell her,"Look.... before me and you got married or was even seeing each other....Dixie was in a tight spot, with Tommy Rogers, and I saw her by the road... took her home and stayed with her...nothing happened though I swear to it, thats why..uh...me and Tommy fought though..."

Lori nodded and looked to him,"Ok..guess I aint got no control over one situation, but the other..... you fought him to protect Dixie??? don't tell me you don't feel something for her...cause I know you do...you wouldn't have fought him if you didn't have feelings for her."

Luke looked to Lori and said,"Yer being unreasonable....If he would've done the same to you or B.L. I would've gotten him too and you know that.."

Lori sighed, he did have a point, if his family was endagered he'd fight til death, but she still knew SOMETHING was going on between them two, but she agreed and nodded.

Luke looked to Lori and said,"But..... I guess its too late to say im sorry fer over-reactin at the house, I guess I was just afraid that the same thing that happened to Caitlyn Marie will happen to this one, whatever it may have been."

Lori sighed and replied,"Too late ta think of that now darlin', I guess I better go.."

Luke reached through the bars and tried to hold her as much as he could without letting a tear slip, Lori let hers fall and looked to him.

Meanwhile Dixie was back at home.........

Luke was being torn a part right now seeing Lori cry. He was a bit thankful when he heard Rosco coming down the stairs. He knew that Rosco would be in a hurry to get the visitors out for the night.

Rosco came down and saw Lori and Dixie still visiting. He knew that the oldest Duke had just gotten married and even he felt for the young couple enough to have let them visit tonight when normally they would not have been allowed to. Rosco could see Lori crying. He knew she should know just how much trouble Luke was in. Rosco cleared his throat and said, "Ladies, I'm gonna have to ask ya'll to leave here soon."

Dixie nodded and turned back to Jeb. They had always been good friends and she had been enjoying his attention since the wedding. She looked at him and asked, "Do you mind me coming back?"

Jeb knew she like Luke, but felt they had been getting to know each better. He said, "I'd actually like that."

Dixie nodded. She was on the verge of tears herself for all the boys but didn't want to cry here. She was waiting on Lori who ...................

After the girls had left, Luke finally said, "Fellas, I almost didn't go with you all tonight. I guess I shouldn't have. I was a lot more bothered than I realized." Luke knew they were sunk. The spot where Agent Roach had caught them had been over the State line which meant they would be charged with a Federal charge instead of a State crime. The only good thing in that being was that ATF could house them in Hazzard until their bond was set, but had it been a State officer from the other State they would have been housed out of State until bond was set. Luke figured Jesse would know when their bond would be set by the time he came back. Luke knew that Jesse had went to talk to Agent Roach before he left.

Jesse, Cooter and BL were waiting for Lori and Dixie to come out of the Courthouse. Jesse was telling them that the Judge would be in to set the bond tomorrow afternoon. Until then there was nothing they could do.

Meanwhile Dixie was back at home thinking on what Lori had told Luke. Lori had told him she was pregnant 'WAY' before the wedding. They had only been back together a week when they got married. Dixie couldn't help but wonder if the child was really Luke's. Maybe she's just have to ask Lori sometime.

Dixie nodded. She was on the verge of tears herself for all the boys but didn't want to cry here. She was waiting on Lori who had dried her eyes and looked through the bars kissing Luke.

She walked up and looked to Lori,"Cousin....Im gonna need you to come by the house..I gotta talk to you."

Lori looked to Dixie and gave her a weirded out look,"O--kay??"

Dixie walked on ahead and went out to B.L. and Cooter. Lori walked out with Uncle Jesse were he proceeded to tell them what was going on and such.

Lori looked to Cooter, B.L. and Dixie who were glaring at her for some odd reason.

Lori walked over to them,"Mind tellin me what ya'lls problems are?"

B.L. looked to Lori and screamed,"YOU WHORE!"

Lori looked around and looked to B.L.,"What is wrong with you?"

B.L. looked to her and retorted,"YOU ARE HAVING A CHILD BY ANOTHER MAN!!!"

Lori looked to Dixie and her mouth dropped,"You dirty little no good sorry lowlife that I call a cousin.. you wanna know whos it is??? come to the doctor with me tomorrow and you'll see... cause then I'll make a pitstop to the jail to tell get Luke to verify my story."

B.L. and Dixie both wanted to go to hear this one.

Everyone got in and left.

At the Davenport Farm B.L...........

At the Duke farm Lori had helped with the supper, seeing as it was only going to be her and Jesse. Vance and Coy were out visiting sick family relatives and Daisy was at work, late shift.

Jesse looked to Lori and asked,"What was that all about this mornin?"

Lori looked to Jesse and sighed,"Uncle Jesse, I got pregnant before the wedding night and Luke thinks otherwise... Dixie and B.L. believe the same and its all screwed up. I gotta go to the doc tomorrow just to prove its his kid!"

Jesse looked at Lori, "Did Luke say he thought you'd been wiht someone else?"

Lori looked to Uncle Jesse,"Luke hasn't but B.L. and Dixie have."

Jesse gave her a slight grin, "You should be worried about your husband not your cousins opinions."

Lori smiled and nodded, finishing up supper she cleaned the dishes and went to the couch to set down. Uncle Jesse had went to bed. Lori had the lamp by the recliner on, and sat there thinking of what her and Luke would do with this child if it lived. She knew it was Luke's and she was glad it was his.

Lori fell asleep in the recliner..that next morning......

At the Davenport farm B.L ran in the door letting it bang as she ran up the stairs screaming like a banshee with the news and what she and Dixie surmised.

"UNCLE LUUUUUUUTHERRRRRR LOOOR"

B.L rounded the corner into Luther's room to find him setting up in bed giving her a look and he said calmly"

"I ain't deaf girl ya don't hafta scream like a banshee, now what has Lori done that's got you so wound up?"

B.L. took a couple deep breaths catching her breath after her mad dash into the house and up the stairs then told Luther.

"Lori's pregnant already!!!"

Luther shrugged there wasn't anything about that he could see that would get B.L in an uproar alot of women got pregnant soon after marriage. He looked at her and again spoke calmly. " That's not unsual B.L for a woman to get pregnant right after getting married."

B.L shook her head he wasn't understanding she plopped down on the bed and looked Luther in the eye and said. "She got pregnant WAAY before the wedding is what Dixie said she told Luke. Don't you see Uncle Luther it's not Luke's, Lori's pregnant by ANOTHER man!"

Luther sighed and shook his head he knew Lori had a reputation and was a little on the wild side but he didn't think she'd marry one man while being pregnant by another. B.L continued with her story.

"Of course she denied it and told me and Dixie if we didn't believe it was Luke's we could go to the doctor with her tomorrow and she'd prove it. Well I don't believe her one iota and neither does Dixie so we're going with her to the doctor."

After telling the NEWS B.L then told Luther about the Duke boys getting caught running shine and what Jesse had learned from the ATF then she went downstairs and her and Dixie worked together to clean the house and plan supper. After supper was cooked,eat and the dishes cleaned up everyone went to bed B.L had the night off.

Lori fell asleep in the recliner....that next morning she got up and got dressed to go to the doctor's and then she went by the Davenport farm she went upstairs and spoke to Luther from outside his bedroom door she didn't want to take a chance of getting sick. She told him she hoped he felt better soon then she, B.L and Dixie left for the doctor's office.....

At the Duke farm and jail....

Cooter went to tell Luther what was up and that he felt he needed to go to keep all three of them alive and out of jail too. Luther agreed and said he would work the garage.

It wasn't long before the four were off to Chickomohony. Cooter noticed Lori make a turn away from Hazzard, "Where are we going?"

"Chickomohony." Lori answered calmly.

In the back seat Dixie and BL gave each other questioning looks.

Lori parked in front of the doctors office which was actually a small house near the Chickasaw County Courthouse. She got out, waited on the others and entered the Doctors office. The doctor greeted her, "Well, Mrs. Duke how are you? I wasn't expecting to see you here today."

Lori was glad the waiting room was empty. She began, "Doc you remember the first time I saw you was when my husband and I had to come over for blood tests to be married?"

Doc replied, "Yes, I do. I believe you two were in a bit of a rush as the wedding was scheduled for the next day and you two weren't aware until for the license that this county still required blood tests."

Lori smiled just a bit, "That is right. Do you remember talking to me privately about something that showed up on my test and I asked you to let me be the one to tell my husband?"

Doc looked from Lori to the other folks with her.

Lori waved her hand, "Don't pay them no mind. They are all cousins of mine. Could I get a copy of that blood test and the date it was done?"

Doc replied, "That isn't a problem. I'll get your file and be right back." Once he returned, he said, "Since you had problems with your first pregnancy it is good that we found out so early about this one."

Lori asked, "Can you tell me just how far along you think I could be?"

Doc replied after looking at her file, "Based on what you told me and also the tests I ran teh last time you were here, I'd say you can't be much over two weeks."

Lori smiled and said, "Thanks Doc."

Lori got in and there was silence among the car.

"Well...proof enough fer ya Dix..B.L.??"

The girls only nodded and hung their heads. Cooter was about to die laughing.

"member that night me and him stayed in Jonhson County?? bout ohh say a week or so ago?? well what does that paper say how far along am I?? ya'll should be ashamed of yerselves."

Dixie looked to Lori and quietly spoke,"So uh...you tellin Luke now or what?"

Lori shook her head,"If Jesse can bail them out I'm waiting."

Dixie nodded.

Lori made a pitstop before the jail to the post office, when she opened a letter that said,"To Mr. and Mrs. Duke..."

She began to get concerned, but when she saw Home Economics clas, and included the following:

1. Parenting

2.Economy

3.budgeting

4.shopping--groceries (nutrition)

5. the needs of a family

Lori climbed in and showed the letter to B.L. as it had the person who refered her and Luke to the class. B.L. swallowed hard and sighed, laughing a shaky laugh.

Lori shook her head and read that it started tomorrow, at 10:00. Lori sighed and drove to the jail.

When they arrived at the courthouse Lori and the others met up with Jesse....

Since these were Federal charges the large 'formal' courtroom of the courthouse would be used. This was big news for Hazzard and surrounding couties as well as for the ATF Office.

Jesse had been outside watching the comming and goings of the courthouse. It was full of Federal and ATF officers. Jesse saw Daisy coming over as well as Lori and the others. He pulled them aside and said, "I didn't expect all this but I have a bad feeling. This whole place is crawling with ATF officers, Federal Agents and Revenuers. I just don't know."

Daisy paled a little, "They will set bond?"

Jesse put his arm around her, "I don't know baby." He was glad to see Coy and Vance pull in they had gotten there just in time. "Come on you all. What ever happens I need each of you to keep control of yourselves. If this goes bad, it will go worse for those boys in there."

They all nodded. As they entered the courthouse and headed to the large courtroom, each felt the tension in the air increase.

The room was pretty crowded with townsfolk in support of Jesse and his family as well as others who had looked forward to this day for years.

The boys all had both handcuffs and leg irons put on by a one of the Federal Officers before being taken upstairs. Luke knew there was no use trying to talk him out of it so he didn't even try. They were taken upstairs to the formal courtroom which was a suprise to them. They also hadn't expected to see as many people that had showed up for this. Each of the boys saw the look on Jesse's face attempting to re-assure them even now. Luke wasn't sure who was closer to loosing it right now seeing them cuffed as they were. He knew Daisy would be all to pieces. Her expression couldn't lie, she was. Then, he looked to Lori. Her expression was more masked to everyone else until their eyes met then she came very close. But, what suprised Luke was Dixie's expression. She was very obviously very upset more so than he'd have thought she would be.

The Court was called to order, Judge Hardcastle entered the courtroom. The Judge had read the file. It was cut and dry simple bond heraing or so her thought. He began to read: "Jeb Stewart Duke, Lucas Keith Duke, Boregard Duke you have all been charged with the Federal charge of transporting illegal alcohol which was a substance know as moonshine across state lines. If you are convicted in a court of law of this crime you could be sentenced to the Federal Prison for NO less than two years and No more than ten years. Now, is there any objection from the ATF that bond be set?"

All eyes fell on Agent Roach and his superior. Agent Roach looked to Jesse with a look of regret, then to his superior. It was obvious that Agent Roach was being forced to do something he didn't want to. He looked at the Judge and said, "Due to this families long history in the moonshing business and the large quaninity of moonshine being transported into another state, it is the ATF's position that though these boys do have ties to this area, we feel they would be a great risk for escape."

The Judge was suprised by this position, but replied, "I'll make note of the opposition." He took several minutes to re study the file and finally, said, "After reviewing the file and with this opposition, I'll have to order that you three are to remain housed here in the County Jail to be held without a bond being set to await a Court hearing to determine your guilt or innocence."

When they led the boys down to the cells, they allowed visitors. Uncle Jesse and everyone went down to see the boys. Lori stood in the back waiting. Dixie and B.L. was still embarrassed from earlier this morning, with the doctors visit and all.

Luke saw Lori and the tears, it was all he could do to retain himself. Roach had heard of their wedding and had felt terribly bad. Dixie looked to Luke and was in tears, Jeb was looking to Dixie and comforting her. B.L. was shaking her head, Daisy was going into fits and Jesse was torn up. But he'd talk to Roach though, he sighed and knew it would break the family generation but he'd do it for his boys.

Lori finally made it up to Luke and was in tears,"Da** bars!!"

Was all Luke could say, he couldn't get to her to comfort her and it killed him to see her cry like that. Knowing that he could only try to comfort her was gonna have to make due.

Lori looked to him and whispered,"I love you..."

And somehow those words stung him, knowing he couldn't lay beside her at night, or he couldn't be there for her when his child was born. He sighed and sweetly replied it back to her. telling her it'll be ok and all.

Lori felt she should be in behind those bars as well she helped them at one time. Lori sighed and saw that Roach was giving her a sorrowful look saying,"Ma'am time ta go.... come again tomorrow."

The words hurt Lori as she looked to Bo ad Jeb and hugged them through the bars, kissing Luke one last time.

Luke watched her go and felt that he should be shot right now..

Roach looked to her and said,"Im awefully sorry Mrs. Duke..truely I am."

Lori nodded and walked on out were she saw Jesse waiting on her.

Uncle Jesse took her by the arm gently and led her to her car.....

Cooter went back over to the garage his head hung like a whipped pup deep in thought about what was to become of his friends and Lori and the baby. B.L went over to Lori's car before she could leave and leaned on the window. Looking solemn even though she fought with Lori after the doctor's visit this morning she didn't want this to happen to Luke. She reached in the window and patted Lori's shoulder consolingly saying sincerely.

"I'm sorry Lori really sorry."

Lori nodded and leaned her head against the steering wheel so B.L wouldn't see her cry but it was a futile attempt B.L still saw her shoulder's shaking and leaned into the car hugging Lori as best she could rubbing her opposite shoulder whispering quietly and consolingly.

"It'll be ok cuz"

Lori nodded and sat up straight again wiping her eyes. Dixie had saw them and came over to tell Lori how sorry she was too and to commiserate with their cousin. After Dixie had talked to Lori she too leaned in the window and hugged Lori. After a few more minutes of talking Lori left headed back for the Duke farm. B.L then turned to Dixie and put her arms around the younger girl hugging her too she was almost as upset over this as Lori, Dixie buried her face in B.L's shoulder and cried the tears she had been holding back. B.L stood there in the middle of the street just holding Dixie while she cried when she was finished they went over to the garage........

Jesse was having his own problems mainly it was Daisy, but Coy and Vance were upset too.

After the courthouse cleared out, Agent Roach looked at his superior and said, "I did my job. I caught them boys fair and square, but you forced me to keep them from getting a bond set."

His supervisor replied, "Well, that will assure we have cut out at least one moonshiner in these parts."

Agent Roach looked at the supervisor in disbelief, "We may have won a battle here. But, we aren't even close to wining a war."

The Supervisor asked, "What do you mean? "We got Jesse Duke's three nephews. The Duke's have never had outside drivers."

Agent Roach nodded, "You are right there. I take it you didn't notice the two younger boys and the girl with Jesse Duke today? Well, those are two more nephews and a niece. The other three girls and the older guy was the oldest's nephew's new wife and her cousins. I can't prove it, but I know Luke's wife has driven for several moonshiners. I've chased her before! She pulled a switch on me one night. Somehow Luke managed to get in between us and I pulled him over. They drive very similar cars. you can take one look at her car and know it's a runner, but we ain't been able to catch her."

His supervisor said, "So you figure Jesse Duke will stay in business?"

Agent Roach replied, "Yeah, I do and I expect those kids to be his new drivers." He planned on going to see Jesse but figured that today wouldn't be a good time.

Meanwhile the boys were not happy in the least.

Bo was the most verbal, "That was a bunch of...."

Luke looked at him, "You aren't doing any of us any good making a fuss."

Jeb plopped on the bed and cussed,"Shut Up!!! Bo!!! my lord!!!"

Bo looked to Jeb and muttered, Luke shook his head and went to his bunk.

That night Lori didn't eat supper, she cleaned up and went straight to bed, when she changed she could feel a breeze blowing from the window.. it was shut but she could still feel it. She laid down and instantly grew colder. She didn' t have Luke sleeping in behind her to keep her warm.

She cried herself to sleep.And she wasn't the only one either, Dixie did too.

That next morning, Lori was up at the crack of dawn, outside on the porch drinking coffee. She was in her sweats and all, she didn't feel like gettin dressed.

Lori saw a strange black car pull up to the house and a man in a suite get out. She stood up and looked, Agent Roach looked to her and nodded,"Mrs. Duke...is Jesse home?"

Lori nodded and went in the house getting Uncle Jesse.

Uncle Jesse nodded and looked to Roach,"Agent..what brings you here?"

"Well, Jesse I wanted to come tell you I am sorry for court. I was forced into making the arguement for no bond. And I'm sorry that I had to.I've been thinking as I told my superior who thinks you are out of buisness now that I know you could have others drive for you or you could drive yourself Jesse I know making moonshine goes way back in your family but I also know how much those boys mean to you I don't know if you or the ATF would go for any deals but would you consider going out of 'business' perminately if we could work out a deal to get the boys sentences lighter?"

Jesse nodded and replied,"If it'll help me find out it can help my boys...ill be interested."

Roach nodded,"yeah I can't promise anything but if you are willing to talk I'l let the proper people know. Trust me they want you out of buisness not those boys.

Jesse nodded and smiled to Roach... ok, you've got me.."

Roach chuckled and nodded,"Ill see what I can do.."

Roach got in his car and left. Jesse went inside and talked to the others, everyone had high hopes too.
