Skipper Duke
1 hour ago, RogerDuke said: Close Call for Daisy......season 6 "The crime czar of the whole state", Nervous Norman Willis comes into Hazzard County in the back seat of his limo with his bodyguard/driver named Jake in the front. When the General Lee backfired right behind him Norman thought it was gunfire and shot the General's radiator out. There was more bad Duke luck when Norman came into town. Jake parked in front of the church where Daisy was standing in a nurse's uniform because she had been practicing for a play. Norman thought he was having a heart attack and thought Daisy was a real nurse and while she was calming him down the two got their notebooks switched. When they parted ways, Norman had the lines Daisy was supposed to read in the play and Daisy had a book of Norman's illegal activities and information on other crime bosses. When Boss finds out Nervous Norman is in town he gets nervous himself because he has been shortchanging him in their illegal business dealings and suspects Norman is there to kill him. The Dukes figure out Daisy is in danger but don't know why. Jake and Norman started chasing Daisy in Dixie and shot out the General's tires but luckily Daisy got away anyways. The 4 Dukes, Cooter and Enos met at Timbertop and agreed that Enos's place is the safest location to hide Daisy. Norman visited Boss and Boss made a big mistake by confessing that he was shortchanging him. The problem for Boss was that Norman didn't know about it before then. The Dukes figured out that Norman was looking for his notebook and in the morning Daisy gave Enos a kiss and Rosco later noticed the lipstick and Enos told him where Daisy was. Norman and Jake kidnapped her but the General took off after them but later stopped when Luke got on the CB and agreed to trade Daisy for the notebook later. Bo picked up the notebook at the post office because the dry cleaners found it and mailed it to the farm. Jesse and Cooter disguised themselves at Cutler and Monday, two of Norman's rivals who wanted him dead. They scared Norman and Jake when they were making the exchange and Bo and Luke ended up with Daisy. They chased the bad guys to the steam plant where they caught them and then the FBI swooped in and took them away. -- This episode has the classic scene where Boss and Rosco are on opposite ends of an extension ladder, balanced on the back of a truck going through town. -- In Enos's place, he puts up a clothes line and uses blankets to make a wall. Waylon comments that he had seen that movie too. Does anybody here know what movie he's talking about? Great Cousin Roger! More episodes! Thanks Hoss. You always amaze me with your ability to find things. I guess it's no surprise I didn't know the movie considering it was nearly 50 years old when Dukes season 6 was on. Clark Gable was known as "The King" of the movies. I always joke that I'm royalty because I'm related to him. His mother is buried a few miles from me. She died young. Clark was too little to have any memories if her. Bo does a Clark Gable impersonation in Robot P Coltrane.

I'm currently midway through watching a box set of a British sitcom called Hi-de-Hi!. It's about a holiday camp in the late-50s/early-60s, and was originally shown between 1980 and 1988. By a strange coincidence, less than 24 hours after Roger's review, the episode I'm watching has another reference to that scene in "It Happened One Night". When two staff members have to share a room, one of the others says, "Did you ever see that film with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert where they have to spend the night in the same room?". Another person then names the movie. The episode of Hi-de-Hi originally aired about a year before 'Close Call for Daisy', so maybe "It Happened One Night" was popular amongst script writers in the 1980s (on both sides of the Atlantic). RogerDuke
The Ransom of Hazzard County.....season 6 Enos's patrol car broke down so he got a ride in the General Lee with the boys and Daisy. Bo drove through a phony school crossing and Boss and Rosco pulled them over but to their surprise Enos popped his head out of the back window and since he was a witness Rosco couldn't ticket Bo. Boss wanted to fire Enos but he knew the townsfolk would revolt so, in a ceremony at the Boar's Nest, he "promoted" him to Commissioner of Records and stuck him in the courthouse basement where it is dusty and full of cobwebs. The ceremony was also the introduction of Boss's new deputy, Billy Joe Coogan, who got to work right away and arrested Bo and Luke after a car chase. What Boss didn't know was that Billy Joe had an accomplice named Eddie and the two were planning a scam. Jesse provided the bail money and while the Dukes were breaking the General out of the impound yard, Rosco and Boss discovered a note from The Doomsday Gang (Coogan and Eddie). They were demanding $150,000 in county fund money or they'd blow up the town. To show they were serious, Eddie called Boss and told him to look out the window and then blew up Rosco's sheriff's car. While the car was still smoking Rosco told the Dukes about the gang and their demands. The Dukes made a connection between Coogan and Eddie just as the two bad guys were planning on releasing the water in Hazzard Dam to get the money. (They didn't think they could get enough dynamite to blow it up). The Dukes then found out Coogan was a known criminal and also figured out the plan to release the water and flood the valley. Luke went to the dam but got knocked out by Eddie. Enos found out Coogan was a member of the gang but Coogan ended up locking him, Boss and Rosco in jail and taking the county money and driving away. He told Eddie to turn the valves and start the flood, which he did. Bo, Daisy and Jesse then caught Coogan and went to the dam to help Luke stop Eddie. They turned the valves off before too much water was let go. Coogan and Eddie got thrown in jail. Jesse made sure the money got returned to the county. Enos got his job back. -- Coogan reminded me a lot of Cletus. He could pass for his brother. Or maybe it was just the uniform. -- When the boys discover a map of Hazzard Dam in Coogan's sheriff's car they figured out what was going on. It was raining in that scene. This might be the only scene in 7 years where it rained. Does anybody know if that is correct? Skipper Duke

RogerDuke
The Fortune Tellers......season 6 While Bo is away on the NASCAR circuit, a fortune teller named Madam Delilah and her short assistant, Three Pack pull into Hazzard County and the first two people they meet are Luke and Daisy. Meanwhile, Boss is worried because Lulu is planning on cashing in $100,000 worth of bonds that have matured. Her Uncle Jasper gave them to her 20 years ago. She doesn't know it but Boss cashed them in years ago and replaced them in her wall safe with counterfeits. Delilah and Three Pack showed up at the Boar's Nest but Rosco kicked them out after she read Lulu's fortune. Boss planned to fake a robbery and grab the fake bonds but quickly saw that Lulu had changed the combination. Later, while Daisy was alone in the Boar's Nest counting the cash, Delilah called to distract her while Three Pack snuck in through a vent and scooped the money up and got away without being noticed. When she called Rosco to report the theft, he thought she was the guilty party but with Luke's help got away. They eventually figured out who stole the money and how, when they found a thread of Three Pack's clothing on the vent. Boss and Rosco then met with Delilah and Three Pack and Boss convinced her to trick Lulu out of the safe combination. She succeeded and then led Lulu out of the house and into the van while Three Pack grabbed the bonds with the intent to double cross Boss and keep them. Of course, they didn't know they were fakes. They got away in the van. Boss was happy because he wanted the counterfeits gone anyways but he knew Luke and Daisy were after the van so he went with Rosco to stop them. They chased them but got stuck and then the General blocked the van and it flipped over, caught on fire and blew up after the two got out. Boss was happy because the fake bonds burned up and Daisy was happy because her reputation was cleared. Bo then called the pay phone at the Boar's Nest and talked to his cousins and uncle. -- Rosco attempts a hood slide. It didn't go well. It was funny though! -- Hmmm, I wonder why Rosco didn't get anything from Uncle Jasper. Maybe he did but Boss swindled it out of him long ago. -- Only one episode left in season 6. Cooter's Confession is next.

RogerDuke
Cooter's Confession......season 6 Cooter's old friend Jonas Jones is driving a delivery truck through Hazzard County with a load of auto parts that Boss paid for in advance. He stops to help a woman who is faking having a broken down car and is blindsided by her accomplice and they steal the truck. Their names are Bart and Ruth and they are working for John Harris, the owner of Capitol City Distributing Company. Enos pursues Bart in the truck (only to warn him about the trucknappers....he didn't know it was recently stolen) and was joined by the General Lee but it got away, along with Ruth driving the car. Jonas hitched a ride to Cooter's and told him what happened. He also told him that he would be the number one suspect since he was a convicted felon. Cooter found out Rosco was going to arrest Jonas and figured he owed him a big favor since Jonas saved his life in a fire in Oklahoma ten years ago. He gave Jonas some cash and told him to take off for Florida so he did. Cooter then decided to take the blame and protect Jonas by confessing to the crime so Rosco locked him up. Before Jonas could leave town, the Duke boys caught him and explained what Cooter did and took him to their farm, where he met with all 4 Dukes. Later at night, Bo and Luke broke into the distributing company and found the parts that were stolen from Boss. They knew the crooks wouldn't strike again because that would prove Cooter's innocence so the boys broke a reluctant Cooter out of jail so they would strike again and get caught. They rented a truck and Luke went to Harris, who gave him a hauling job, with Luke knowing he would be robbed. Sure enough, Luke came across Ruth, pretending to be broke down. He overpowered Bart but Ruth knocked him out and Bo and Cooter were late to the scene since they had to get away from Rosco and Enos. Bo, Luke and Cooter ended up catching the pair and, back at the Capitol City warehouse, Daisy and Jesse (armed with his jogging outfit and shotgun) caught John Harris. -- Where does Waylon come up with them?...... "Well, don't that fill grandma's drawers with nightcrawlers?!" LOL -- Jesse, "A stranger's just a friend we've never met.".......Waylon, "Ya know, somebody ought to write a country song about that, but I can't think of a word that rhymes with Hazzard." -- Tomorrow I'll move on to season 7. RogerDuke
Happy Birthday General Lee......season 7 After getting chased by Rosco and Boss and then getting away, Bo and Luke return to the farm to find Daisy, Jesse and Cooter celebrating the eighth birthday of the General Lee, complete with a birthday cake. Luke recalls that he was just out of the Marines and Bo was just out of high school and the episode fades to 8 years earlier. Bo and Luke were in an old brown Ford pick-up truck and got pulled over by Boss and Rosco. Rosco had a moustache and Boss was thinner with more hair on the top. Rosco impounded the truck and the boys were picked up by Jesse and Daisy in the white Ford truck. They went back to the farm and admired the souped up engine the boys built. Bo and Luke had their eyes on a $10,000 prize at the "Hazzard Road Race Championship" but had no car for their engine. Meanwhile, robbers Ginny and Rick had just stolen $50,000 in gold dust at Capitol City and made a getaway in a black 1969 Dodge Charger but crashed and were caught by Capitol City Sheriff Snead. Before they were caught they hid the bags of gold behind the instrument panel. The 4 Dukes went to Boss's house and asked for a loan but to get a lower rate Daisy had to agree to work at the Boar's Nest. Bo and Luke borrowed Cooter's truck and picked up the 10 year old Charger at a Capitol City junkyard and took it to Cooter's Garage. The robbers broke out of jail and went to Hazzard to find their car and gold dust, while Boss and Rosco were spying at Cooter's because they were concerned the new race car could beat Boss's #13 car. Ginny and Rick confronted Bo and Luke on the street but the boys got away after being shot at. The next morning the General Lee breathed life for the first time and then got painted orange because that was the only color Cooter had enough of. The 01 got painted on the sides and Bo said "We started out with nothing and it's #1 here all the way." After the flag was painted and horn installed, Jesse named the car. Later, Ginny and Rick saw the boys and started chasing them but then history was made when the General jumped it's first creek. The boys got to the race just in time. Rosco said he'd shave his moustache and Boss said he's eat his hat if the General beat Boss. While sitting in Boss's car, Rosco was the announcer in the 5 car race but Ginny and Rick joined in until Luke shot their tire out with an arrow. The other cars crashed and then some of the gold dust fell out from behind the General's instrument panel. The General trailed by a lot but caught up and jumped over Boss and Rosco to win the $10,000. Boss ate his hat and Rosco shaved. Ginny and Rick got caught and the gold dust got returned. Fade ahead 8 years and Boss and Rosco show up to interrupt the birthday party and the boys jump in the General and the chase is on! -- Ginny was played by country music star Janie Fricke. -- The guy who sold the black Charger incorrectly called it a 1968. -- The General's first jump in this episode is the record breaker that is featured in the opening song. -- What a great episode....a favorite of many Dukes fans. RogerDuke
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Duke.....season 7 A van hauling experimental, mind-altering medication developed by Dr. Debbie Davis of Genetic Research Incorporated is driving through Hazzard. It is on the way to Atlanta to destroy the medication because it has been determined that it is too dangerous. The van swerved to miss a vehicle and a vile popped out of the back and flew through the air and landed on a rock and into Hazzard Pond. Moments later, the General Lee came by. Bo, Luke and Daisy were on their way to the annual Hazzard Hayride and the General had radiator problems and needed water. While Luke was filling up his container he took a sip of the pond water and felt the chemical's effects immediately. He starts acting angry and the first person he insults is Bo. Meanwhile, two guys named Ben and Hurley open a savings account with Boss but are planning on robbing his bank later. Luke turns up the volume on his new-found badness, insulting everybody in sight. He then returns to the farm and insults Jesse too. Back in Atlanta they discover the missing vile but Debbie's boss, Mr. Adams orders her to keep the whole thing a secret to protect them and the company. Debbie is not comfortable with that. After terrorizing the citizens of Hazzard even more, Luke teams up with Ben and Hurley to be their wheelman for the robbery. They give him $500 for an incentive and he gives it to Bo for his half of the General Lee. Rosco found out about the upcoming robbery so Boss set up cameras to get Luke in trouble. The Dukes found the broken vile at the pond. They went to Atlanta and got no answers and broke in later that night. Debbie explained that the chemicals should wear off soon and Luke would recover. The Dukes figured out that Luke was in on a bank robbery plan so went to stop him but Jesse's truck got a flat. Enos came by and Bo jumped in with him and went to town but it was too late. The bank had been robbed and Boss had Ben, Hurley and Luke on tape. Rosco left for Atlanta to take the VHS to the FBI but Jesse and Daisy stopped him. While talking, Flash destroyed the tape when Rosco threw it in the back seat. Bo and Enos caught the robbers. Enos took Ben and Hurley into custody. Bo and Luke had a fight but the medicine wore off and that caused the fight and the episode to end. -- The wheelman's (who Luke replaced) name was Zeb but the credits listed him as Toby (unless I have him mixed up with someone else). His real name is James Bradford. Sounds like a job for detective Hoss. -- I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this episode. Seeing Luke like that is not fun. From what I can see, Zeb was played by Richard Johnson, but the part is uncredited. He was previously one of the ultralight pilots in 'Daisy's Shotgun Wedding' (where he was credited as Rick Johnson). I assumed Toby was Dr. Davis' bearded assistant, but I can't find any contemporary pictures of him for comparison, and he isn't named in the dialogue. I'll try to watch the episode in full over the weekend. RogerDuke and Skipper Duke
RogerDuke
Robot P. Coltrane.......season 7 Two guys named Rance and Marv come through Hazzard with a delivery truck hauling a mysterious stolen item. The Duke boys helped Rosco catch them for speeding and he seized their truck and took it to Boss in town. When Boss forced them to show him the contents, out walked a robot and the first thing he did was light Boss's cigar. The robot's name is Bobby Joe and Rance was one of the engineers who developed him. He worked at Atlanta Robotics and had stolen the robot because he was fired and was planning on asking $200,000 for Bobby Joe's return. Boss bought the robot but Rance and Marv were planning on stealing him later. After the robot proved he could be a better sheriff than Rosco, Boss fired his human and put the sheriff's badge on Bobby Joe. The Duke boys found the bad guys hideout and grabbed the ransom note for evidence but got caught and tied up but eventually worked their way loose. Bobby Joe got the combination to the bank vault and Rance and Marv opened it and stole bags of cash while the robot pinned Rosco into the wall. Boss, Bo and Luke arrived at the bank and then the boys took off after the robbers. Jesse and Daisy freed Rosco by throwing water on Bobby Joe's circuits. The Duke boys caught the bad guys and Rosco and Enos arrested them. Rosco got his job back. -- According to David Hofstede's Unofficial Companion, Daisy and the robot were dating. Robert Shields was the actor in the suit and Catherine was dating him at time.

RogerDuke
No More Mr. Nice Guy......season 7 The 4 Dukes head to the Capitol City Department Store because Daisy got a telegram saying she won a bunch of prizes for being the one millionth customer. When they arrive she receives a yellow classic Ford Mustang, fur coat, gold bracelet and 4 tickets to Mexico. Unfortunately, it's all a Boss Hogg scam. Senator Shaft is on his way to Hazzard to investigate a burglary ring and Boss gave Daisy stolen stuff to frame the Dukes. Boss's accomplices are Billie Jean, Stoney and Zack. Rosco arrested Daisy and Jesse but Bo and Luke got away. Boss had an accident with a skateboard and shopping cart and hit his head on the sidewalk and lost his memory. He turned into a nice guy and even freed Daisy and Jesse. Billie Jean and her thugs didn't believe Boss really lost his memory. Rosco hit Boss on the head and jarred his memory back. They tried to arrest Bo and Luke but they got away. Boss got kidnapped by the bad gang, receiving a hit on his head, losing his memory again. One of the thugs hit him in the car and he got it back once more. The 4 Dukes sprang to action to save Boss after the kidnappers called Enos to demand their stolen merchandise back. Enos teamed up with the Dukes just as the Senator was arriving. Rosco showed up and delivered the Mustang and stolen goods to the gang and they kidnapped him too. The Duke boys figured out where they were and rescued them from Stoney, while Daisy caught Billie Jean and Jesse caught Zack. The senator thanked the Dukes and Enos for stopping the burglary ring. -- Boss kept calling his sheriff Bosco. -- Stoney was played by former Oakland Raider NFL great John Matuszak. -- Classic scene when Rosco was in the Hazzard Hotel. He was looking for a diamond necklace Boss lost and wandered into a room where a big angry husband punched him. He went through a window, bounced off a trampoline into a dumpster. The truck driver then dumped the dumpster into his truck. Edited November 23, 2020 by RogerDuke

John Matuszak was in an episode of M*A*S*H that I saw last week. He played a GI with a bad disciplinary record who threatened to beat up one of the officers if he didn't receive the promotion that his father expected him to achieve. Probably his best-known acting role was as Sloth in 'The Goonies'. Sadly, he died of heart failure in 1989 at the age of 38. Did you recognize Billie Jean? Audrey Landers previously played Gail Flatt in 'R.I.P. Henry Flatt'.
