Hey people! I thought it would be fun to post the lyrics of your favoorite song here. Or maybe its not your favorite song, maybe its the song that has a sentimental value or maybe it strongely represents who your are. Anything... anything at all. Please share the lyrics. One of my all time favorites is a song that to me means alot because its taught me never to underestimate what you may think is impossible.

Artist/Band: Nichols Joe

Lyrics for Song: The Impossible

My dad chased monsters from the dark

He checked underneath my bed

An he could lift me with one arm

Way up over top of his head

He could loosen rusty bolts

With a quick turn of his wrist

He pulled splinters from his hand

And never even flinched

In thirteen years I'd never seen him cry

But the day that grandpa died,I realized

Unsinkable ships sink

Unbreakable walls break

Sometimes the things you think could never happen

Happens just like that

Unbendable steel bends

If the fury of the wind is unstoppable

I've learned to never underestimate

The impossible

And then there was my junior year

Billy had a brand new car

It was late, the road was wet

I guess the curves was just too sharp

I walked away without a scratch

They brought the helicopter in

And Billy couldn't feel his legs

Said he'd never walk again

But Billy said he would and his mom and daddy prayed

And the day we graduated,he stood up to say:

Unsinkable ships sink

Unbreakable walls break

Sometimes the things you think could never happen

Happens just like that

Unbendable steel bends

If the fury of the wind is unstoppable

I've learned to never underestimate

The impossible

So don't tell me that it's over

Don't give up on you and me

'Cos there's no such thing as hopeless

If you believe:

Unsinkable ships sink

Unbreakable walls break

Sometimes the things you think could never happen

Happens just like that

Unbendable steel bends

If the fury of the wind is unstoppable

I've learned to never underestimate

The impossible

THE DANCE by Garth Brooks

Looking back on the memory of

The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone

For a moment all the world was right

How could i have known that you'd ever say goodbye

(chorus)

And now i'm glad i didn't know

The way it all would end the way it all would go

Our lives are better left to chance i could have missed the pain

But i'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you i held everything

For a moment wasn't i a king

But if i'd only known how the king would fall

Hey who's to say you know i might have changed it all

*chorus*

Yes my life is better left to chance

I could have missed the pain but i'd of had to miss the dance.

Another good one... not exactly country, but not bad, either!

Artist: Green Day

Album: Nimrod

Title: Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go

So make the best of this test, and don't ask why

It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind

Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time

Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial

For what it´s worth, it was worth all the while

It´s something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life.

It´s something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life.

It´s something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

Here's one of my favorites

Green Day - When I Come Around

I heard you cryin loud

All the way across town

Cause you be searchin for that someone and it's me out on the prowl

As you sit around feeling sorry for yourself

Don't get lonely now

Dry your whining eyes

I'm just roaming for the moment

Sleazin' my back yard so don't get so uptight

you been thinking about ditching me

No time to search the world around

Cause you know where I'll be found

When I come around

I heard it all before

So don't knock down my door

I'm a loser and a user so I don't need no accuser

to try and slag me down because I know I'm right

So go do what you like

Make sure you do it wise

You may find out that your selfdoubt means nothing

was ever there

You can't go forcing something if it's just

not right

No time to search the world around

Cause you know where I'll be found

When I come around

When I come around

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man

Mama told me when I was young

Come sit beside me, my only son

And listen closely to what I say.

And if you do this

It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... Don't live too fast,

Troubles will come and they will pass.

Go find a woman and you'll find love,

And don't forget son,

There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man.

Be something you love and understand.

Be a simple kind of man.

Won't you do this for me son,

If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold

All that you need is in your soul,

And you can do this if you try.

All that I want for you my son,

Is to be satisfied.

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.

Follow you heart and nothing else.

And you can do this if you try.

All I want for you my son,

Is to be satisfied.

December Flower by IN FLAMES

Towards the rich archaic heavens;towards the lack diorama

you are the artist of the texture

that plays with the mantle of the earth

When the bleakest of powderslie rooted to the starched stones

and roots that feed the peaking trees

embrace the sleeping shores

Archaic pearls of sleep and death

the voice of December losing it's breath

and the floweryard of white and grey is haunted

White as the down of flaking snow,

the heroic emblems of life

Green is the colour of my death

as in winter-guise I swoop towards the ground

Green is the landscape of my sorrowfilled passing

We are In Flames

towards the dead archiac heavens

We are the mantle of the earth

Awesome song, there, Darrell!

How about this one?

FREEBIRD

(allen collins - ronnie vanzant)

If i leave here tomorrow

Would you still remember me?

For i must be travelling on, now,

'cause there's too many places i've got to see.

But, if i stayed here with you, girl,

Things just couldn't be the same.

'cause i'm as free as a bird now,

And this bird you can not change.

Lord knows, i can't change.

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.

Though this feeling i can't change.

But please don't take it badly,

'cause lord knows i'm to blame.

But, if i stayed here with you girl,

Things just couldn't be the same.

Cause i'm as free as a bird now,

And this bird you'll never change.

And this bird you can not change.

Lord knows, i can't change.

Lord help me, i can't change.

WOW folks, got some really great songs here. Im glade I posted this topic. Heres another one of my favorites.

Artist/Band: Black Clint

Lyrics for Song: Desperado

Lyrics for Album: The Greatest Hits

Desperado

Why don't you come to your senses

Ben out ridin' fences, for so long now

Oh, you're a hard one

But I know that you got your reasons

These things that are pleasin' you

Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy

She'll beat you if she's able

You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

But it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table

But you only want the ones you can't get

Desperado

Oh, you ain't gettin' no younger

Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home

And freedom, oh freedom, well that's just some people talkin'

Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime

The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine

It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day

And you're losin' all your highs and lows

Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away

Desperado

Why don't you come to your senses

Come down from those fences, open the gate

It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you

You better let somebody love you, let somebody love you

You better let somebody love you

Before it's too late

One of our favorites is actually a parady of a famous country song.

Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Youth Ministers

By Tim Jones

(Youth Minister and Comedian)

Mama's don't let your babies grow up to be youth ministers

Don't let em strum guitars or drive old church vans

Let em be preachers or teach in Japan

Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be youth ministers

People will wonder when he'll be full grown

When he'll get a church of his own.

Youth guys are experts at frisbee, Nintendo and putt putt

He'll have to explain why it rained and the van windows weren't shut

His desk is piled high with squirt guns, stale fries, and old yo-yos but no extra money

And nobody thought that that joke about snot in his sermon was all that funny.

Mamas don't let your babies think of working with youth groups

At camp he'll wrestle with kids on the floor,

Who sneak out of their bunks, when he starts to snore.

Mamas don't let your babies go into youth work

Kids'll tp his car and when they act bizzare

In public he'll look like a jerk

His research consists of malls, VH1 and comic books

He won't get much use out of all of those long Greek classes he took.

The new kids are rowdy they cuss but only around his grouchiest critics

And that waterballoon that he jokingly threw left a welt that needed a medic

Mamas you may think this lifestyle for your babies is strange very strange

But you can be proud when you're home in the clouds

To see how many lives he has changed.

This is one of my favorites at the moment... It's actually in a way very related to my coming back to Dukes now... so it means a lot.

_________

Your Heart Will Lead You Home

Sunny days and starry nights

And lazy afternoons

You're countin' castles in the clouds

And hummin' little tunes

But somehow right before your eyes

The summer fades away

Everything is different

Everything has changed

If you feel lost and on your own

And far from home

You're never alone, you know

Just think of your friends

The ones who care

They all will be waitin' there

With love to share

And your heart will lead you home

Funny how a photograph

Can take you back in time

To places and embraces

That you thought you'd left behind

They're tryin' to remind you

That you're not the only one

That no one is an island

When all is said and done

If you feel lost and on your own

And far from home

You're never alone, you know

Just think of your friends

The ones who care

They all will be waitin' there

With love to share

And your heart will lead you home

There'll come a day

When you're losin' your way

And you don't know where you belong

They say that home is where the heart is

So follow your heart

And know that you can't go wrong

If you feel lost and on your own

And far from home

You're never alone, you know

Just think of your friends

The ones who care

They all will be waitin' there

With love to share

And your heart will lead you...

If you feel lost and on your own

And far from home

You're never alone, you know

Just think of your friends

The ones who care

They all will be waitin' there

With love to share

And your heart will lead you

Where you belong

I know your heart will lead you

Home

The day I rediscovered Hazzard and thereby a part of myself I really needed at the time, I actually created a songvid, sort of, using this song, a few sound clips, and a lot of still pictures. I don't have it online anyplace, but I'd love to share it if anyone would like... Just my own loving tribute to Hazzard and its people.

Ooooohhh. You could write new lyrics to that one. Anybody wanna have a go at it?

Mama's don't let your babies grow up to be Duke Boys.

Don't let 'em drive stock cars with doors welded shut.

Don't let 'em be chased by a cop with a mutt!

Mama's don't let your babies grow up like Bo and Luke turned out.

They'll wind up in jail and when you post their bail,

You'll find that they've just busted out.

<cue anyone for next verse>

Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Duke Boys

They'll never give the cops a straight answer about anybody

Bo with that Blonde hair and Blue eyes, you can forget about that now

Luke was always finding ways ot of trouble that Bo got them him

Daisy , Cooter and Uncle Jesse would help them out of jams at times as well

Duke boys are experts at racing and fighting and things blowing up

They stay on the run and ol' Rosco can never keep up.

When trouble appears it's the Duke boys right there but Boss Hogg is gone

But they'll get away by jumping the creek while the sherriff goes into the pond!

  • 5 months later...

I have too many favorites to name all of them, but one song that I always thought to be very true and moving and about something that I'd like to experience is Alan Jackson's 'Living On Love':

Two young people without a thing, say some vows and spread their wings

Settle down with just what they need, livin on love

She don't care, bout what's in style, she just likes the way he smiles

It takes more than marble & tile, livin on love

Livin on love, buyin on time, without somebody nothin ain't worth a dime

Just like an old-fashioned storybook rhyme, livin on love

It sounds simple, thats what your thinkin, but love can walk through fire without blinkin, it doesn't take much, when you get enough, livin on love

Alan Jackson is probably my all-time favorite artist. I love all his stuff. 'Don't Rock The Jukebox' That's another good one!

Before ya drop that quarter, keep one thing in mind

You got a heartbroke hillbilly, standin here in line

I've been down and lonely, ever since she left

Before ya punch that number, could I make one request?

Don't rock the jukebox, I wanna hear some Jones

Cause my heart ain't ready, for the Rolling Stones

I don't feel like rockin, since my baby's gone

So don't rock the jukebox, play me a country song!

Favorite song?

'Come a little Closer' by Dierks Bentley

Come a little closer baby

I feel like layin’ you down

an a bed of sweet surrender where we

can work it all out

there ain't nothin that love can't fix

girl it's right here at our finger tips

so come a little closer baby

I feel like layin’ you down

some a little closer baby

I feel like lettin go

of everything that stand between us

and the love we used to know

I wanna touch you like a crimson robe

and let it wash all you hurt away

so come a little closer baby

I feel like lettin’ go

if there's still a chance than take my hand

and we'll steal away

off into the night

until we make things right

the sun's gonna rise, on a better day

come a little closer baby I feel like strippin’ it down

back to the basics of you and me and what makes the world go round

every inch of you across my skin

I wanna be stronger than we've ever been

so come a little closer baby

I feel like strippin’ it down

come a little closer baby

just a little bit closer baby

come a little closer baby

I feel like layin’ you down

But we all know that this is one of the greatest songs ever written:

'What was I thinkin'?' by Dierks Bentley. And we all know the reason why it rocks! (See huge yellow font below)

Well, Becky was a beauty from south Alabama.

Her Daddy had a heart like a nine pound hammer.

Think he even did a little time in the slammer.

What was I thinkin'?

She snuck out one night an' met me by the front gate,

Her Daddy came out a-wavin' that 12-guage

We tore out the drive, he peppered my tailgate.

What was I thinkin'?

Oh, I knew there'd be hell to pay.

But that crossed my mind a little too late.

'Cause I was thinkin' 'bout a little white tank top,

Sittin' right there in the middle by me.

An' I was thinkin' 'bout a long kiss,

Man, just gotta get goin', where the night might lead.

I know what I was feelin',

But what was I thinkin'?

What was I thinkin'?

By the County line, the cops were nippin' on our heels,

Pulled off the road an' kicked it in four-wheel.

Shut off the lights an' tore through a cornfield.

What was I thinkin'?

At the other side, she was hollerin': "Faster."

Took a dirt road, had the radio blastin'.

Hit the honky-tonk for a little close dancin'.

When a mountain of a man with a "Born To Kill" tattoo,

Tried to cut in, I knocked out his front tooth.

We ran outside, hood slidin' like Bo Duke.

What was I thinkin'?

I finally got her home at a half past two, later.

Daddy's in a long chair sittin' on the driveway,

Put it in park as he started my way.

What was I thinkin'?

Oh, what was I thinkin'?

Oh, what was I thinkin'?

Then she gave a "Come an' get me grin."

An' like a bullet, we were gone again.

'Cause I was thinkin' 'bout a little white tank top,

Sittin' right there in the middle by me.

An' I was thinkin' 'bout a long kiss,

Man, just gotta get goin' where the night might lead.

I know what I was feelin',

But what was I thinkin'?

What was I thinkin'?

I know what I was feelin', but what was I thinkin'?

----------------------------

I mean, how could anyone not love a song that mentions Bo?
