"wh-when?" he asked quietly. He had to admit he got scared everytime he was no in control of a situation...and this was one of those times.

"Well we want to do it as soon as possible...so we're aiming for this afternoon if that's ok with you?"

She asked, knowing the operation had been booked already but also knowing that patients were the most scared when they felt they had no control.

Luke swallowed but the nurse was pretty and the last thing he wanted was to look weak in front of her. "Well..I'm a busy man...b-but I think...I can manage it," he said with a half-smile.

The nurse chuckled and nodded with a smile.

"Alright..meantime, would you like some painkillers to help ease the pain? These will have to be done via injection..."

Luke frowned never having cared for needles himself, but the pain outweighed his thoughts on needles. "Please."

The nurse nodded and crossed to a cabinet, pulling out an IV bag and a syringe, carrying them over. She gently took Luke's hand in hers and swabbed the back of it.

Luke swallowed turning his head away and focusing on the wall, distracting himself with looking at the pictures that adorned it.

The Doctor noticed the movement and knew that no matter how hard he looked at the pictures, he'd still feel the needle go in. He needed properly distracting...he needed to think about something else.

"So what do you like to do in your spare time...apart from dance with mules?"

Luke swallowed. "Oh you know...I uh...I got a daughter...she takes a lot of my time...and feeding nd mucking the stall of my dance partner....among other things on the farm...I stay busy."

The nurse looked up at him, smiling.

"Oh you have a daughter? What's her name?"

Luke smiled. "Jaime..."

The doctor nodded

"Well that's a pretty name...come on I want details....age, looks, brains..."

Luke soon was rattling away about his pride and joy. "She's the prettiest thing I ever saw... so smart...she's got a mouth on her too." He chuckled a little. "And she takes after me in stubborness I reckon."

The doctor nodded, looking to him.

"And how about her mother? I'll bet she's just as pretty..."

"Well, ma'am t' tell ya the truth, I don't remember too much what her mama looked like..." He knew the nurse was looking at him strangely. "See I adopted Jaime...and I ain't got no wife myself. Just my uncle an' my cousins."

The doctor nodded in understanding as Luke explained.

"Oh I see...okay then...well your all done...I assume i'll be meeting with your daughter sometime later today?"

"All done?" he asked looking at his arm in surprise. "You're good. Yeah..I'm thinkin' you probably will."

The doctor nodded with a small chuckle.

"I've had that done since you mentioned your daughter. And I can't wait to meet Jaime, she sounds very nice. I'll have the anethatist come up and talk with you as well as the surgeon to explain a few things a little later. Meantime, just give those painkillers time to work."

"Yes ma'am," he said politely sitting with his back against the wall. He hoped they would hurry and start working. His foot felt like it had taken a step into a wood chipper.

The doctor nodded with a smile to him and headed out the room, making some notes on her clipboard. Luke however was to be given no peace as Bo stormed into the room, a face on him that could rival the darkest storm clouds, his shoulder and arm imoblizied.

Luke looked up seeing Bo's shoulder and arm and his angry look and quaked a little. He could only assume that Bo was angry at him, and from the looks of his shoulder he had a pretty good idea why. He just hoped Bo wouldn't punch first and ask questions later, as Luke was certainly no match for him right now. "Bo...look...I never meant to hurt you...I...I'm sorry..."

Bo looked up at him, frowning deeply.

"What?"

He then realized what his enterance must have been making Luke think and he sighed, shaking his head.

"No..No Luke I'm not mad at you...I'm mad at that dang doctor that treated me..obnoxious jerk..."

Luke lookd at him confused. "Wh...what happened?"

Bo shook his head, sitting in a chair beside Luke's bed to calm himself down.

"Don't matter none...I delt with it..."

He glance up at the x-rays and whistled low.

"Man...Maudine really did a number on your foot huh?"

Luke looked at him knowing he didn't want to talk about it. " Yeah...she did...apparently..I gotta have surgery t' repair some of the bones..."
