Bo nodded gently, leaning back against the headboard.

"That's good...so once we done our chores do you wanna go test the General down the race track?"

"Whatever you want Bo" he replied figuring it wouldget Bo's mind off things.

Bo nodded with a grin

"Sure thing"

Luke nodded back. "Best go get them chores done..." he said before leaving the room.

Bo nodded too and got to his feet, heading outside with him to do the chores.

Luke worked quickly and quietly, not bantering with Bo as was custom.

Bo whistled as he went about his chores, scaring the chickens as he always did when he walked past and giving Maudine a friendly scratch behind the ears.

Luke mucked out Maudine's stall cursing under his breath as Maudine shifted stepping on his foot.

Bo heard the curse and looked to him, jogging over.

"Luke, you ok?"

Luke nodded grimacing a little. "Hurt my foot is all, limping out to the bench sitting down and struggling tight-lipped to remove his boot.

Bo swallowed and knelt down next to him, helping him to gently ease off his boot.

Luke hissed as he struggled with the boot his foot already swollen enough to prevent the boot coming off easily. Finally he bit his lip and yanked off the boot, it flying across the barn. Slowly he removed his sock, his face palinga little at the large bruise already darkening his foot.

Bo's eyes widened a little and he shook his head, starting to help Luke up onto one foot.

"Come on, in...we'll call Doc..."

Luke shook his head. "S'just a bruise Bo... I'll mend," he objected holding up his foot a little. "We can't afford no doc right now..."

"Well tough Luke we gotta get it seen to! A bruise could mean internal bleeding as well as possible broken bones, especially if Maudine's trod on it!"

Bo exclaimed.

Luke sighed. "Alright...alright...don't get a bee in yer bonnet." He used Bo's shoulder for a crutch a he stood with his foot raised a little.

Bo smirked

"Well at least now you know what it feels like..."

He said as he started to help Luke indoors.

Luke said nothing to that as he tried to walk beside him, more hopping then anything.

Bo eventually got him inside and called out for his Uncle as he lowered Luke onto the couch.

Luke sat gently on the couch biting his lip as he looked at the swollen foot. The last thing he wanted was to worry the family or spend money they didn't have. He had already done that by bringing Jaime to live with them.

Bo hurried to the freezer, wondering where his uncle was, as he went to get some ice for Luke's foot.

Luke sat, his face a little pale as he tried to move his foot.

Jesse came out of the room mumbling, "man can't even take a nap in his own house...." He looked up seeing Bo rantically going through the freezer. "What in tarnation is going on boy?"

Bo jumped and hit his head on the top of the freezer as Jesse called to him, pulling his head out along with several handfuls of ice, dumping it in the towel on the table and wrapping it up.

"Maudine stood on Luke's foot an' now it's swellin' up to the size of a basketball..."

"Good Lord...well get that ice to it and let's take a look." He crossed to wear Luke lay and shook his head upon seeing it. "I'm callin Amos."

"Uncle Jesse...it ain't that bad..." objected Luke.

"Oh you're a doc are ya?....well that's good t'know seein as my nephews get into more trouble than any ten boys do..."

Bo swallowed, knowing Jesse was eceptionally cranky because he had been woken from his nap. He knelt carefully down next to Luke and pressed the ice filled towel to the swelling foot as gently as he could.
