It's almost Sunday! I'm ready for it! lol I know what you mean about 43 drivers on the track. And even then, some people's favorites are past drivers like Dale Sr, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, etc. It's just so neat to me to see how and why people chose their fav's. I know my cousin really didn't care for Jeff Gordon a whole lot, but his 7 year old son, Wyatt, decided that was the driver he likes. (I'm sure it has nothing to do with all of the Jeff Gordon cars and stuff that I kept buying his dad to tease him with. Not my fault. lol) So now he keeps an eye on Jeff too, so he can tell Wyatt how he's doing during the race. One of his girls was trying to decide who she wanted to root for and kept asking me if I liked this driver or that driver. I finally told her it doesn't matter who I like, it just matters who she likes. She of course told me then that she was going to root for Kyle Busch. (It turns out she was joking with me. Whew! But if that really was her choice I wouldn't have said anything.) I know I chose Edwards because he's a hometown hero, besides a good guy and a good driver. My sister-in-law likes Jr because he's good looking and a good driver. My brother likes Edwards and Mark Martin. You know, I'm not sure why he likes Martin, but he's been supporting him since his Roush days. My dad has chosen Tony Stewart and the Old Man, that's what he calls Martin. It's funny, Martin is younger than my dad by about 13 years. lol My cousin's wife made a comment at Talladega this spring that she was going to start rooting for Denny Hamlin because his tshirts and everything are purple. lol And then you have my mom, she says her favorite driver is whoever wins that week. I was speechless for a while. It's hard to argue with her logic though.
lol
I didn't see the Nationwide race. I pretty much go to my parents farm every weekend to get out of the city. They unfortunately do not have cable or the internet or anything. So I have been going to my brothers to watch the races when possible. He lives closer than I do and it's a plus getting to play with my little red-headed nephew. This is also why I'm not on HNet or the weekend, no internet connection. *sigh* I'm excited about going to the truck races though. I'll have to study up a bit on who drives that's for sure.
I'm really undecided on the Chase format. I don't hate it, but I think it could be made better. I think they should award more points for actually winning a race. That way people aren't just cruising around the track. Let's see some all out racing for the win, you know what I mean? That's just an opinion I have. I really don't care for the "car of tomorrow" either. I know it makes things much safer, but what about individuality? Things are so restricted, that you can't change anything it seems. How are the teams supposed to advance and make themselves better? It's like the old timers say, Race it on Sunday so people will want to buy it on Monday. Anyway, these are just some of my opinions.
I'm not sure how big of a reader you are, but if you enjoy reading I would suggest the book "Driving with the Devil: Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels, and the Birth of NASCAR". I enjoyed it quite a bit and didn't know a lot of the beginning stuff of nascar. I'm a big reader though and usually get through one or two books a week. I read almost anything I can get my hands on. lol
Thanks for writing such a long post, it was a pleasure to read and I loooooovvvvveeee talking racin'! Very few people here at work watch it so I really don't get to talk about it until the weekends. And I like hearing others opinions.
Okay, so now look how long my post has come out. lol
