I saw an amusing tweet by an American after the USA won their match against Australia: USA beats Australia at the Wold Soccer Cup sending them back to Europe with nothing. Whoo hooo! Somehow simultaneously misunderstanding how the first round works and World geography.

Yes, I believe they were. That was the major selling point. But, I think by the time Dukes ran on TNN, cable was showing ads.

Garrett won the race in '25!

Jesse "It sure would be nice if we figure this out before the 2027 Moonshine 400. Does anybody remember who won the race in '25?" Garrett sounded off, "I believe you did Uncle Jesse. Weren't you racing with your 1923 Ford Coupe?" Jesse snapped back fast. "I mean 2025 you crazy kid. Why would you expect me to remember a 101 year old race when you can't even remember who came in second a half hour ago?"

I lived in the country when cable TV first came out but (correct me if I'm wrong my fellow Americans) but weren't all the cable stations back then commercial free? As I recall, that was one of the big selling points.

I know I've made this comment before, but when one of the satellite channels over here was showing Dukes a few years ago, it was the first time I'd ever seen it with commercial breaks. It was originally shown in the UK on the BBC which doesn't show any commercials, and then I got it on DVD. Other shows like The A-Team, Knight Rider and the Fall Guy were shown on ITV which does show commercials, but not nearly as many as the US.
-
Garrett rolls his eyes at seeing them kiss but applauds with everyone else. "I guess that means we won't know the finishing order now," he states under his breath and turns around to face to take a drink of his beer that was sitting on the bar.
-
I feel like a lot of things they changed should have been left alone. They've ruined a good thing...
-
You are so lucky with that. There were a lot of times where the accidents happened while they were on a commercial break. That is so aggravating. You just see replays of it and then more commercial breaks. It's non stop here...
-
When I had time to watch NASCAR a few years ago, any incident seemed to be an excuse for a commercial break. Sometimes, they'd come back from the break, tell the audience that the incident was still ongoing, and go for another break. I sometimes forget how lucky we are over here with much stricter constraints on the amount of advertising that's allowed to interrupt TV shows, although obviously things are a bit different nowadays with many people streaming their shows.
-
Do you guys and girls have a favorite Moonrunners character?
-
I feel the same way! I think some things have changed, that they should've left alone!
-
That's pretty much about how I feel about the segments in NASCAR now. The breaks would definitely interrupt the flow of the game.

Can I just say that everyone outside of the US knows that the "hydration breaks" have been introduced for this tournament because American TV couldn't possibly show 45 minutes of sport without commercials. They ruin the flow of the game and are unpopular with fans. Obviously, the players need to stay hydrated in hot weather, but they've just had the break in the England-Panama game and it's being played in the rain! We've managed without them for over 150 years and I hope this is the last time we see them. They are not part of the sport.

Uncle Jesse 🥂
-
Jesse clears the room by yelling "Listen up everyone." In the corner there were still 3 people not complying. Jesse yelled even louder. "And you too you Beaudrys!" Pa, Milo and Sledge quieted down. "I just want to thank the best postmistress this here county has ever had". Rosco interrupted "She's the only one we ever had. They were all men before her. Khee, Khee!" Jesse looked at him with killer eyes and scared Rosco enough for him to recoil back in his seat nervously. Jesse continued "Even after seeing her dirt bike get burned to a crisp she still kept her cool and never got angry with me. And for that she deserves a big kiss" He leaned over and gave her a big sloppy kiss on her lips. At first the crowd was stunned into silence but then went wild. After the kiss Emma smiled from ear to ear and declared "Hobie might have won the race but I'm the real winner today. I know I always ask folks to take a number in the post office but today I'm number one!"

Garrett 🥂
-
Garrett turns around as Skipper approaches him and hears him out. He sets his half drank down and gives Skipper a high five. "No need to apologize, Skipper. It was just a race and you were just eager to win the race as everyone was. My car can and will be fixed in no time," he pauses to put down his empty glass from Cooter, "but I'll be glad to take you up on that drink and drink to a fun race."
-
Sorrell and Jimmy beat them all by a long shot !!
-
Skipper sees Garrett, and Uncle Jesse come in. He rushed over to them. "Hey Uncle Jesse. Garrett. Garrett, I'm sorry about cheating and wrecking your car. I want to buy you a beer to apologize to you. Please join me. Uncle Jesse, you too. No hard feelings about you stealing the Coconut Moonshine or disconnecting the Minnow trailer from my car."
-
Walking into the Boar's Nest with his head down, Garrett sighs and looks up and looks through the crowd before finding Hobie. He makes a slow and long thoughtful walk over to Hobie where he looks up and gives Hobie a confident smile and puts his hand out and says, "Congratulations Hobie on a great race." He surprises himself that he actually means and finds himself buying into Jesse's speech. "But next year, that trophy is coming back home with me." He gives him a smile before he walks over to Bo and Luke who congratulate him on a well raced race. Garrett only shrugs it off before before Jesse and everyone starts asking him if he finished second after Hobie. Garrett shrugs. He'd be ok with second. Just not with the wrecked race car. Taking a deep breath he slowly admits out loud, "I don't really know where I placed," he pauses, "I just knew I wasn't first." He shrugs again before Cooter hands him a beer and he slowly takes a long drink before slowly stating, "I apologize for how I acted and not celebrating with you all for the fun race."
