RogerDuke Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Charlie Daniels passed away this morning of a stroke. He was often called the hardest working man in the entertainment business. He has been my favorite singer for decades and I will miss him. I had the opportunity to speak to him three times and it was awesome. The first time I got my picture taken with him. The next time I got it autographed. The third time we talked about patriotism. Two of his songs "What this World Needs is a Few More Rednecks" and "Simple Man" are amongst my all-time favorites. My favorite Charlie moment was listening to him sing "How Great Thou Art" under a beautiful twilight West Virginia sky. Good bye Charlie. You will be missed. The world has lost a great man. I only wish Rosco would have caught you in a speedtrap. I would have loved to see you in the Boar's Nest but I guess you must have outsmarted him. Skipper Duke 1 Quote
HossC Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Sorry to hear about Charlie's passing, Roger. I know he was a big favorite of yours, although I didn't know (or possibly remember) that you'd been lucky enough to meet him three times. Until I joined HNet, I only knew Charlie for 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia', but now I know a few more of his songs. It's a shame that the music forums have gone quiet, because I used to enjoy being introduced to songs and artists that I didn't previously know. Here's two of your favorites, Roger: Charlie Daniels - (What This World Needs Is) A Few More Rednecks Charlie Daniels - Simple Man RogerDuke 1 Quote
RogerDuke Posted July 6, 2020 Author Posted July 6, 2020 Thanks Hoss. I went to 4 of his concerts. The one in my home county is the only one where I didn't get to talk to him. I'll always appreciate that picture of him at the Duke farm you got for me....even though it might have been altered a little. It is still so sweet! Skipper Duke 1 Quote
HossC Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I was just watching a season 3 episode of The Fall Guy called 'Pirates of Nashville'. The main storyline was about bootlegged Country records, so Colt and gang had to fly to Nashville and visit The Grand Ole Opry. The first singer they met was Dottie West - one of Boss' Celebrity Speed Trap victims. A couple of others like Mickey Gilley were mentioned, but not seen. Then Charlie Daniels and his band showed up to perform 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia'. The episode also featured Miriam Byrd-Nethery who appeared in two episodes of Dukes. The episode finished with Colt losing a bet and having to sing the show's theme song which was portrayed as having been written by Howie. I'm no expert on Tennessee geography, but the street signs in the urban car chase looked suspiciously like the ones in LA, and the out-of-town chase went down roads lined with white fencing that were very like the ones often seen in Dukes (e.g. W Potrero Road in Westlake Village).
