Play it Again, Luke......season 6

When Luke was in the Marines he dated a girl named Candy Dix who was just starting her singing career. She had hit the big time and was at the Boar's Nest giving a concert because she wanted to test some new material out on a smaller audience and wanted to see Luke. After the concert her manager, Eddie Lee Memphis was being mean to Candy and then punched Luke. Luke knocked him down and then also knocked down his assistant Hoby. Knowing Candy was in danger, Luke, Bo and Daisy took her back to the farm. Luke and Candy rekindled their romance and then she explained to him that Eddie Lee had been mean to her lately and she suspected he had gambling debts. She knew he was bad news and couldn't break her contract with him. What she didn't know was how bad his debts were. Eddie Lee owed a big time gambling boss named Starkey a lot of money and his life was in danger if he didn't pay it back. The only way he knew he could do that would be to kill Candy and collect the $75,000 in life insurance that was in his name. Eddie Lee and Hoby showed up at the Boar's Nest and made a deal with Boss. Eddie would give Boss 10% of her contract in exchange for $25,000 and the return of Candy. Not knowing about the deal, Luke came into town to swear out assault charges against Eddie Lee but Boss threatened to arrest Luke for kidnapping her. After a chase, Luke got away in the General with Bo and Candy and later hid her in the upstairs of Cooter's Garage. Worried that she was putting the Dukes in danger she later decided to call Eddie Lee and he and Hoby picked her up. While that was going on, Bo, Luke and Cooter were going through Candy's camper and after getting a call from Starkey and seeing the life insurance certificate, figured out her life was in danger. Eddie Lee and Hoby drove away from town to kill her but it was four vehicles to the rescue, Daisy and Jesse in the General Lee, Enos in his patrol car, Bo and Luke in Cooter's wrecker and Rosco, Boss and Cooter in the sheriff's car. Everybody ended up at the junk yard where Luke almost met his doom in the crusher. The bad guys went to jail and Candy gave another concert at the Boar's Nest, where Luke played guitar and the two lovebirds sang Boulder to Birmingham.

More Cousin Roger! :)

Roger, if your wife watched 'Play it Again, Luke' with you, she may have recognized Candy Dix. Roberta Leighton apparently played Shirley Pickett in 12 episodes of General Hospital a year before she appeared in Dukes.

She wasn't home when I was watching it yesterday but I'll show her when I get a chance. (she's sleeping now). Thanks for telling me. She's loved GH as long as I've loved Dukes.

Undercover Dukes....both parts....season 6

While the 3 younger Dukes are planning a surprise birthday party for Uncle Jesse, Mary Beth Carver rolls into town with her RV, bodyguard JoJo, assistant/bodyguard Anna Louise, chimpanzee Mr. Jones and a NASCAR race car. Mary Beth is the sweet but spoiled daughter of the most powerful and fearsome crime boss in the South, JJ Carver and she is a big Bo Duke fan and wants to draw him and Luke out of retirement and back on the racing circuit. She offers them a nice contract but they refuse because they don't want to break their promise to stay on the farm. JJ Carver hears of their decision so comes to Hazzard and offers them an even better deal but they still refuse. A federal agent named Walden has the RV bugged when Carver made the offer and later makes the Duke boys a different offer. He wants them to put themselves in danger and serve their country to take down Carver. He asks them to accept the offer from Carver and infiltrate his operation and get enough evidence to put him away. Walden has information that Carver is planning something really big soon. Unfortunately Rosco was listening to the conversation in the weeds and reported it to Boss. Bo and Luke accepted the challenge but weren't permitted to tell anyone about it, not even Daisy and Jesse. Daisy was especially angry before they left and even slapped Bo and punched Luke in the stomach. The boys went to the heavily guarded Carver estate near Capitol City and so did Boss and Rosco, camping out, watching with binoculars from a distance, even spending the night. On the morning of the big race Bo and Luke found out that Carver was bringing in all the biggest mob bosses in the whole United States together and he was planning on being the Boss of all bosses. They also found out that the big meeting was supposed to be later that day while the race was going on. The race started at about the same time Uncle Jesse's surprise party at the Boar's Nest did but Jesse and Daisy decided to go the race after an minimal amount of celebrating. Luke heard Carver talking about the big meeting so he snuck to a telephone to call Walden but all he was able to do was leave a message. Luke then left for the estate after telling a kid to see Bo during a pit stop to tell him what was going on. JoJo saw the kid and forced him to reveal what the message was. After Luke snuck onto the Carver property Boss and Rosco showed up and all three got caught and tied up. Carver told JoJo to kill Bo right after the race so JoJo went back to the track. Bo had a nice lead and when he found out Luke was in trouble had Daisy put his gear on and take his place. They were able to pull it off because a car fire caused a long delay. Bo left for the estate. Daisy dropped to sixth place but started to work her way back up later. Bo rescued the 3 and hopped in the General Lee while Luke, Boss and Rosco jumped in Dixie and went back to the track after being chased. Walden and a bunch of agents swooped in and arrested all the mob bosses. Daisy won the race and Bo stopped JoJo and everything got sorted out and Jesse's big birthday bash started up again back at Hazzard.

-- This was the last of the 3 2 parts shows. The others were Carnival of Thrills and 10 Million Dollar Sheriff.

-- The yellow Maserati and Red Ferrari at Carver's estate was owned by John Schneider. I wonder how many creeks he jumped with them.

-- Daisy beat a lot of NASCAR drivers in that race, including Richard Petty, Darryl Waltrip (finished 2nd), Buddy Baker, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison (finished 3rd), Ricky Rudd, Robbie Crouch, Dick McCabe, Barney McRae and Bill Elliott. (I like Chase Elliott because his dad was mentioned on Dukes and he is a genuine Georgia boy)

And don't forget that Terry Labonte played a member of the pit crew (his part was uncredited). Mary Beth's car was painted to look like Terry's 1983 racecar.

Anna Louise was played by Stepfanie Kramer. This episode originally aired about six months before she made her debut in probably her best-known role as Dee Dee McCall in 'Hunter'.

How to Succeed in Hazzard......season 6

While Bo is on the NASCAR circuit Hughie Hogg's older brother Dewey comes into Hazzard County in an ambulance that runs Jesse and Luke off the road in Jesse's truck and ruins a load of eggs. When Dewey arrives in town he is with a nurse and a big guy who is his driver. The first people they see are Cooter and Daisy. Dewey tells them he is dying and coughs a lot. He later tells his Uncle Boss that he caught a terminal sleeping disease while selling frozen hog jowls in deepest Africa. Folks don't believe him at first but Boss does when he sees the pre-dug grave and tombstone that Dewey has completed. Dewey wants to build a memorial medical clinic named after him. He needs $150,000 to build it. He has a third, he wants Boss to match that and the folks of Hazzard to donate the final $50,000. Boss is so blinded by greed that he agrees after Dewey tells his uncle that he'll get $300,000 in life insurance money after he dies. Boss and Dewey hold a public meeting at the gazebo and convince the townsfolks to donate and then Boss appoints the most honest person in Hazzard in charge of the money, Jesse Duke. After getting together the $150,000 Jesse put the money in safe deposit box #115. Later, Dewey switched it to box #114 and when Boss found out it was missing he ordered Jesse arrested but he got away. Luke thought of a plan to convince Dewey that he really was dying so he would lead them to the money and was able to get Boss to go along with it by convincing him his nephew was running a scam. At Boss's house, Boss, Daisy, Rosco, and Luke see Dewey and congratulate him for a successful scam. They then break out a bottle of bubbly and toast him but Luke doesn't have any. Rosco then faked his death from being poisoned, then Daisy, then Boss do the same. After a phone call, Luke convinced Dewey he was dying and Dewey and Luke then went to box #114 and got the money but Dewey snuck out with it by squeezing through box #133 and took off in the ambulance with his accomplices, bound for South America. The driver dropped off Dewey and his nurse with the money and they hopped on a dune buggy that was hidden and went cross country with Luke and Daisy in pursuit in the General Lee. After Dewey's comment "one last maneuver and we're home free" they ended up stuck in his own pre-dug grave. Later, Bo called from the circuit and later still, Boss had a ceremony celebrated the start of construction on the renamed J D Hogg Memorial Clinic.

Did you recognize Dewey's nurse? She was one of the car strippers in 'Arrest Jesse Duke'.

The episode title is a parody of the 1967 movie 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying', which also starred Robert Morse.

She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for its January 1976 issue, and now runs her own "Prophetic and Prayer Ministry".

(That's Daina House, not Miz Tisdale ;))

Close Call for Daisy......season 6

"The crime czar of the whole state", Nervous Norman Willis comes into Hazzard County in the back seat of his limo with his bodyguard/driver named Jake in the front. When the General Lee backfired right behind him Norman thought it was gunfire and shot the General's radiator out. There was more bad Duke luck when Norman came into town. Jake parked in front of the church where Daisy was standing in a nurse's uniform because she had been practicing for a play. Norman thought he was having a heart attack and thought Daisy was a real nurse and while she was calming him down the two got their notebooks switched. When they parted ways, Norman had the lines Daisy was supposed to read in the play and Daisy had a book of Norman's illegal activities and information on other crime bosses. When Boss finds out Nervous Norman is in town he gets nervous himself because he has been short-changing him in their illegal business dealings and suspects Norman is there to kill him. The Dukes figure out Daisy is in danger but don't know why. Jake and Norman started chasing Daisy in Dixie and shot out the General's tires but luckily Daisy got away anyways. The 4 Dukes, Cooter and Enos met at Timbertop and agreed that Enos's place is the safest location to hide Daisy. Norman visited Boss and Boss made a big mistake by confessing that he was short-changing him. The problem for Boss was that Norman didn't know about it before then. The Dukes figured out that Norman was looking for his notebook and in the morning Daisy gave Enos a kiss and Rosco later noticed the lipstick and Enos told him where Daisy was. Norman and Jake kidnapped her but the General took off after them but later stopped when Luke got on the CB and agreed to trade Daisy for the notebook later. Bo picked up the notebook at the post office because the dry cleaners found it and mailed it to the farm. Jesse and Cooter disguised themselves at Cutler and Monday, two of Norman's rivals who wanted him dead. They scared Norman and Jake when they were making the exchange and Bo and Luke ended up with Daisy. They chased the bad guys to the steam plant where they caught them and then the FBI swooped in and took them away.

-- This episode has the classic scene where Boss and Rosco are on opposite ends of an extension ladder, balanced on the back of a truck going through town.

-- In Enos's place, he puts up a clothes line and uses blankets to make a wall. Waylon comments that he had seen that movie too. Does anybody here know what movie he's talking about?

He's referring to "the Walls of Jericho" scene from the 1934 Frank Capra comedy "It Happened One Night" starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
