Here's the view from the helicopter of the last 2 laps https://www.reddit.com/r/NASCAR/comments/j58ygx/i_dont_think_nbc_showed_the_helicopter_view_of/ Boy did Nascar officials muck this up. IMO the yellow line rule should not count on the last lap, either that or build a wall along the start finish line on the yellow line.

Also even though Nascar officials say the post race penalties were "clear cut" they rescinded Chase Elliot's penalty overnight and gave him back his 5th place finish. Since they did that they penalized Chris Buescher instead. With the penalty rescinded Chase now sits 3rd in points instead of on or near the bubble that is 7th or 8th place.

Instead of racing the Charlotte Roval next Sunday they ought to just borrow a wrestling ring from WWE and have a "Royal Rumble" match with all the drivers. It'll take less time and be way more entertaining.

Daniel Suarez to drive for new team in 2021 https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/10/07/nascar-daniel-suarez-joins-trackhouse-racing-in-cup-in-2021/

Mike Wallace's indefinite suspension upheld https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/10/07/nascar-mike-wallace-final-appeal-of-indefinite-suspension-denied/ I wish it would come out what he was suspended for, though it must've been bad if all his appeals were denied.

Matt Dibenedetto will stay with the Wood Bros. Racing for one more season and then Austin Cindric will take over the ride for 2022 https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/10/08/matt-dibenedetto-to-run-for-woods-in-2021-before-austin-cindric-takes-over/

Surprise surprise the Michael Jordan/Denny Hamlin team will basically be a Joe Gibbs Racing satellite team https://www.jayski.com/2020/10/08/joe-gibbs-confirms-plans-to-work-with-michael-jordan-and-denny-hamlins-new-team/ Toyota must be funneling a lot of money into Nascar execs pockets to turn the other cheek unless they're going to rewrite the rules.

Small F1 hijack:

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton who equalled Michael Schumacher's record of 91 wins today. There's no recent news on Michael's condition following his skiing accident in 2013, but his son Mick presented Lewis with one of Michael's old helmets after the race.

Mick is also a racer, and was due to drive an F1 car in one of the practice sessions on Friday, but they were called off due to bad weather. Hopefully he'll get a go at one of the remaining races.

Our dirt tracks are done but the local dirt bike track still has three weeks to go. I'm heading out there Saturday afternoon.

That was a cool coincidence. I went to the dirt bike track tonight and the episode (A Boy's Best Friend)  I watched later had dirt bikes racing around the track....the place Hazzard folks call The Flats.

Joey Logano punched his ticket to the championship race with his win yesterday in Kansas. Kevin Harvick finished 2nd, Alex Bowman finished 3rd, Brad Keselowski 4th, Kyle Busch 5th, Chase Elliot 6th, Ryan Blaney 7th, William Byron 8th, Martin Truex jr 9th and Christopher Bell 10th.

Another quick F1 hijack:

After equalling Michael Schumacher's win record at the last race, it was inevitable that it wouldn't take too long for Lewis Hamilton to become the driver with the most wins in F1 history. Today he started on pole, and despite briefly slipping back to third near the start, he regained the lead and never looked back. He won his 92nd Grand Prix in some style with a margin of over 25 seconds to his team mate in second. Only four cars finished on the lead lap, and Lewis also got the extra point for fastest lap. It now looks like he's on his way to equalling Michael Schumacher's record of seven World Championships at the end of the season.

You'd have to be blind and deaf not to see this coming...23XI racing going to be a Joe Gibbs Racing satellite team https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/10/30/michael-jordan-bubba-wallace-denny-hamlin-23xi-racing-aligns-with-toyota-joe-gibbs-racing/ Mike Wheeler to be crew chief https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/10/30/mike-wheeler-will-be-crew-chief-for-bubba-wallace-michael-jordan-denny-hamlin/

Chase Elliott punched his ticket to the 'final four' round for the Championship by dominating Martinsville yesterday leading 236 laps. Ryan Blaney finished 2nd, Joey Logano 3rd, Brad Keselowski 4th, Kurt Busch 5th, Alex Bowman 6th, Aric Almirola 7th, Clint Bowyer 8th, Kyle Busch 9th and Matt Dibenedetto 10th.

Kevin Harvick, although winning the most races this season, did not make the 'final four' cut. Which in my opinion is exactly what's wrong with this gimmicky playoff format. They should go to a format of if you won and or top 20 in points you're automatically in the final championship race.

Luckily, they've abandoned the gimmicks in F1. There's now an extra point for the fastest lap (so long as the driver finishes in the top 10), but that's about it. Unfortunately, this truncated season has been a bit one-sided - Mercedes collected their 7th consecutive Constructor's trophy yesterday, and Lewis Hamilton is about 99% certain of winning the Driver's trophy, but that's partly because Ferrari have had to make undisclosed changes to their car which left it off the pace. There was a little trial and error before they settled on the current qualifying format, but at least they dropped the one-season-only double points for the last race a few years ago.

The Georgia boy has won it all. At 24 years old Chase Elliott becomes the third youngest driver to win a championship. Only Jeff Gordon and Bill Rexford were younger. He and his father Bill are only the third father/son duo to win championships. The other two were the Pettys and Jarretts. Chase won 5 races this year and since his father was mentioned on Dukes and he is a Georgia boy he is Roger Duke's favorite! Nice job Chase!

Chase Elliott wins his first Cup Championship solidifying the Elliot name dynasty https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/11/08/chase-elliott-joey-logano-denny-hamlin-brad-keselowski-jimmie-johnson-wins-nascar-cup-championship-at-phoenix/. He once again dominated the race leading the most laps, 153, after having to start from last due to his car failing pre race inspection twice. The only other playoff competitor that had the car to win, Brad Keselowski, kept losing positions on pit stops in the last half of the race.

Jimmie Johnson ended? his career with a top five and arguably could have won the race if the stars would have aligned as he also had a faster car than Chase's at times.

Clint Bowyer finished 14th in the #14 car. Matt Kenseth finished 25th in his final start in the #42 car.

Cole Custer won the rookie of the year trophy for 2020.

Top ten at Phoenix: Chase Elliot 1st, Brad Keselowski 2nd, Joey Logano 3rd, Denny Hamlin 4th, Jimmie Johnson 5th, Ryan Blaney 6th, Kevin Harvick 7th, Matt Dibenedetto 8th, William Byron 9th and Martin Truex jr 10th.

One of the last F1 hijacks this year, I promise :):

Lewis Hamilton won a record-equalling seventh World Championship on Sunday, and now has the same number of titles as Michael Schumacher. He didn't have it all his way this weekend - the track in Turkey was already very slippery due to recent resurfacing, and then it rained for both qualifying and the race. Hamilton struggled in the practice sessions, and only qualified sixth (his worst start of the year)
. Undeterred, he drove an almost faultless race in changeable conditions to take the victory. His team mate, Valtteri Bottas, the only person still in with a chance at the title, could only manage 14th place. Hamilton has now won 10 of the 14 races this season - Bottas, in an identical car, has won two. Their team, Mercedes, won a record seventh consecutive constructors' title at the previous race.

Yesterday, a cross-party group of MPs called for Lewis Hamilton to be knighted (following in the footsteps of previous racing drivers Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Stirling Moss), and today he was named the most influential black person in the UK in the Powerlist 2021. All in all, it hasn't been a bad year for Lewis.

I've wondered if not for Mercedes domination since 2014 would Lewis have been able to match Michael's F1 accomplishments. Not downplaying Lewis's talent, just making an observation.

Matt Kenseth retires again https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/11/18/matt-kenseth-nascar-career-over/ too bad CGR couldn't build him a race winning car this season.

Ryan Preece extends deal with JTG Racing for 2021 https://www.jayski.com/2020/11/18/ryan-preece-now-expected-to-return-to-jtg-daugherty-racing/

Here's a video of Nascar test runs of the next gen car at Charlotte https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnHGpKVpikQ  take the engine sound with a grain of salt as that is not the engine that will be run when this car debuts in 2022, it does sound awesome though.

Lewis has undoubtedly had the best car for the last few years, although last year's Ferrari should've won more. During his time at Mercedes, only Nico Rosberg beat him to a single World Championship. Car not withstanding, he probably is the driver of his generation. It'll be good to see Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc in more competitive cars, and they're both only 23, so they should be around for a while.
