Skipper Duke reacted to RogerDuke in The last 24 hours
That is so interesting Hoss. History is an unusual thing. It is always written by people in power and/or changed by them. That is why when I was a kid cowboys were portrayed as heros. Today, they are looked on by liberals as evil, hateful, murdering, rapists and racists. The truth..... as they say.....is usually somewhere in the middle. They weren't all good and they weren't all bad. Most of them were a little of both. Most people have a good and bad nature....devil on a shoulder and angel on the other.

A episode of the current season of the UK TV show QI put forward the following:
When the Vikings invaded in the 11th century, English women found them attractive because they washed more often than the native British men. The Vikings tended to come without women, so they married English women, upsetting the locals. One monk, John of Wallingford, claimed that Danes cheated by washing. He wrote: "The Danes made themselves too acceptable to English women by their elegant manners and their care of their person. They combed their hair daily and took a bath every Saturday, and even changed their clothes frequently, be which means they undermined the chastity of the wives." Thus there is a theory that all of that stories about Vikings raping and pillaging were written by Englishmen whose wives were taken by more attractive Danes.
I must remember to have a bath on Saturday to make myself irresistible to women.

They were probably like the Leftists today. You know, guns and weapons are bad and only savages use those things. We're in a civilized society. Then they were easily beaten down!

I'm just glad the Packers lost. Makes me happy knowing one certain sob is miserable about them losing. Can't believe the call to go for a field goal instead of a touchdown though, wtf was that coach thinking.

Getting snow right now. Could get up to a foot but the ground is pretty warm so it shouldn't accumulate that much. I hope not because my wife and her sister are driving home from Detroit.

With the way they painted the car half & half I think half a flag would look weird.
Yeah it's going to be a cold weekend here in NW Ohio too. I guess next week on the 31st or April 1st the weather pattern is going to switch to spring.

I couldn't use Spike's image because it's hard to recolor black panels, so here's a quick effort based on another image I found. There aren't many places for the graphics. You'll have to imagine the flag on the gas tank, because you can't see it from this angle.

you know Roger......you're just a wild man! I bet Mufn never saw this side of you! She would've thought twice about letting you stay in Hazzard! LOL!

The internet is going to make a lot of things obsolete.... paper newspapers and magazines, movie theaters, banks, taxi cabs, many universities, etc

Just found out we had another house bought out from under us. At least this time we got info though. Turns out a real estate company is on a buying spree outbidding prospective home buyers in the area with cash offers and then turning them into rental properties. Nice to know we're not alone in being frustrated and getting screwed out of buying a home. At least we know what we're up against now for what good that does.

I've idea whether other countries use that style, but White Star Line hats are quite similar to UK Navy hats, and do not have ropes and anchors.

It is used here, but I can't imagine it would have been used for the master of a White Star Line vessel over a hundred years ago. It would have been a very respected position. Skipper is also used here for the captain of a football (soccer) team.

Despite sinking on its maiden voyage, Belfast is still proud of building the Titanic. There's a visitor attraction dedicated to it, although I didn't have enough time to check it out when I was in Belfast a few years ago.
Whether he was bad or good, the person in charge of the Titanic was English, so he would never have been known as Skipper Smith. He was Captain Edward Smith.
BTW. Skipper, why are you posting everything about the Titanic twice? Your posts don't really relate to either movie (they're just general discussion about the Titanic), and you certainly don't need to double post.

The General Lee is still the most recognizable car in history....but a half General-half Hazzard Sheriff's car is really strange. Which half was the General? Was it split down the middle, or front/back....or was it all orange with the Sheriff's decals and lights, or none of the above? You are right.....the short time I was on FB I saw everything imaginable as a tribute to the greatest most famous car in history.
I've been watching You Tube videos of Superbikes lately. My Ninja wouldn't be able to keep up with them but it looks like them. Now, where did I put that orange paint?
Edit...maybe Hoss could see my Ninja that Spike put up a few days ago and turn it into a GLee.

Everybody said the ship was unsinkable so whenever someone thinks they can't fail they often end up failing because of overconfidence.

You didn't see a "black '68 coupe" [sic] in any of the junkyards did you?

It's definitely a winter wonderland here. So far about 6 inches of the really wet and heavy variety. We lost electric for 5 hours but it's good now. Thankfully my wife doesn't work today. There was a fatal accident on a road this morning that she would have taken if she didn't have the day off....scarey thought that it could have been her. Cars were off the road all over the place this morning.

yea! LOL! Although if you know anything about Hooterville, it's funny on TV but not in real life! I tell the Yankees around here, don't judge the South by this place. This is NOT typical!

We had 330 new cases today. That's just over one and a half times as many as you, but with a population over 18 times as large.

Last night I seen on fb someone shared a Crown Vic painted half General Lee and half Hazzard County Sheriff . It's amazing how many different cars all over the world are painted like the General Lee, from Fiat 500's to Ford Escort's to Lada's, heck even Ural motorcycles etc.. I don't think there is any other TV series or even movie car that gets so much love and reproduced on so many vehicular things.
