The Hazzard Garage (Cooter's Garage)
Some nice words I got today from Cooter himself: "Alma and I are just blown away by your work. It is fantastic, and that is not a word I use very often. You continue to capture the reality with an accuracy that is in fact heightened by its "unreality', i.e., the dream world of re-creation. We are even more astonished that you are capturing the essence of the garage and the spirit of the show at such a minute scale. You have a remarkable gift. To me, you have created a work of serious art. There is no other word for it. I am having deja vu looking at these pictures. Bravo. Bravo! Ben Jones"

Sci-Fi is my usual subject for models, so this project has been a nice 'down-to-earth' break from that.

In fact I have written him a couple times with pictures of this project in progress and both times he wrote back some very complimentary things. I actually sent him another update last week but haven't heard back yet. Mark

Fan of the Month for August 2015
Wow- this is pretty special! Hazzardnet has always been welcoming place, but this is over the top; I am honored. There's really only one word fits: YEEHAW!!! I've always felt like I get more out of coming here than I contribute, so its an unexpected pleasure to know folks are enjoying what I've posted. My first hope is that I can inspire others to try something creative themselves, even (or especially) if you don't think you can do it! And when you do, share it; you don't know who you'll inspire next! And thank you to whatever sneaky Hazzard-ite nominated me! Mark

Only one night shot of the garage in the entire series as I recall (Jude Emery). I wasn't going to do lights for that reason.

Word Association
There is one in our neighborhood- not as big as the ones in big cities in the UK, but big enough to chase around in a General Lee (This is why I need my own General Lee). roundabout by mommydawn2000, on Flickr And so my word association entry in response to 'roundabout' is... palm tree M

Knight Rider vs. The General Lee
Anyone remember this? Promotional material from NBC... All these years later, The General still wins as the most popular mo...vie car of all time (even though KITT is still on that list somewhere close behind). knightrider2 by mommydawn2000, on Flickr knightrider3 by mommydawn2000, on Flickr

Have you ever seen a General Lee?
I've seen the GL at Cooter's Place in Gatlinburg and the one in Nashville. Both are not in perfect shape, but really they are what I'd expect the 'real General Lee' to look like within the storyline. Although the boys took good care of him, I never thought the GL was a pristine flawless car the way they drove it! I have yet to sit in one since they charge to get a picture inside the car, but I may remedy that next time I visit one of those locations. M

The Hazzard Garage (Cooter's Garage)
This project is like peeling back an onion with the amount of details- every time I get one layer done, I noticed another layer of things in the same pictures I've been staring at for 5 years. Its weird what you DON'T see when you are looking for something specific. I just noticed the other day that the back door has a door closer thingy at the top. After doing a quick google search for some reference, I find it is in fact called a 'door closer', and the one in question is a 'vintage' style. Its one of those every day objects we've all seen a thousand times in our life, but never focused on. Fortunately for me, a 'vintage door closer' is shaped awfully similar to a piece of plastic model kit sprue in 1/25 scale! Then there are the fan belts: turns out that 1/25 fan belts are pretty much identical to small hair 'elastics' (discovered thanks to my two daughters!). The bad news: they only had rainbow colored ones. The good news: found a package of 500 in black at the dollar store for... one dollar. Felt a little weird buying them as they are apparently made for African-American folks' hair, so I got a coke and some peanuts to draw attention away from it. I'm sure Cooter carries only the best hoses; but maybe needs to make sure he keeps the doors locked when he's not there. There's a bunch of doors and open windows in that place.

The Hazzard Garage (Cooter's Garage)
The backyard is starting to get a little overgrown! This area is never really seen in the series, so I get to dress it up a little. There will be some more mechanical junk out there soon. The door and small windows on the back of the 'office' area isn't speculative though; you can see it in the John Wayne movie 'The Shootist'. Coy and Vance?
I agree with the sentiments here, but I'll add that at least the show didn't just replace Bo and Luke with different actors and pretend it was the same characters. They do this in soap operas frequently and its pretty jarring. m
