  1. Beth's parents were setting on the porch swing when Bo parked the General Lee. Luke had agreed to shift the gears so Bo could drive home. Luke really didn't feel like driving anyway. Bo said, "Thanks, Luke. At least that kept my mind of things for a few minutes." "Come on, maybe I can get you inside without having to play the host." said Luke. Bo did not want to get trapped alone on the porch with Beth's parents at this point. Luke gathered their coats and ties as he got out of the car. He handed Bo his things. Luke spoke to Beth's parents, nudged Bo to speak which he did, then Luke said to Daisy who was bringing out glasses of ice tea, "We'll be right out as soon as we hang this stuff up." He continued to push Bo through the door. Once in their room Bo said, "Thanks. You know I don't know if I can do this." Luke said gently, "You have to. You can't expect Beth to do it. AND you don't want Jesse to have to tell them." Bo turned on Luke, "Just what do you know about it?" Luke took his cousin's outburst in stride knowing Bo wasn't yelling at him but himself. "Bo if you want her father to respect you as a man that will take care of his daughter, then your going to have to be a man and stand up to him." Bo fumed, "What kinda of a man did it take to ...." Bo almost spit the word, " 'USE' Angie last night? You know I'm really not liking the person you have become since you and Robin broke up." Bo was looking for an arguement. Much to Bo's surprise Luke replied, "You know Bo, ...... you are absolutely right! And I haven't liked myself too much for it lately either." While Bo was still in shock at what Luke had said. Luke gently moved him to the bedroom door. "This isn't getting you anywhere. We'll talk more about me later." Luke had hopes of getting into the kitchen for another cup of coffee before all He-- broke loose. It only took a sideways glance at the kitchen to know he'd be run out before he even got through the door. Daisy and Beth were in the kitchen helping Jesse who unlike the younger generation had started preparations for today last night while they were all out partying. The girls set up a picnic table outside for lunch. Jesse had warmed the fried chicken and mashed potatos, and made gravy. He had made several pies before leaving for church. Daisy and Beth had also taken pitchers of tea and lemonade to the table. When everyone was called to the table Luke managed to get in the kitchen and bring out the coffee pot and several cups. The glare Jesse shot him went unnoticed by their guests but not the family. Jeb being the clown almost cracked up which got Coy and Vance started which got all of them a look from Jesse. Once he managed to get them quiet Jesse said grace. The meal was enjoyed by all though Bo felt like he'd choke on each bite as it went by the lump in his throat. Daisy and Beth cleared the dishes and brought out the pies and a fresh pot of coffee. Beth was trying to stay as busy as she could. Though Beth was shaking like a leaf she couldn't help but notice how relaxed her parents looked. She had never seen her Mother have a picnic let alone have Sunday dinner outside before. As everyone finished up their pie, the youngers ones were getting restless. Coy asked, "May we be excused?" Jesse suggested, "Why don't we all go get comfortable on the porch where it's a bit cooler." Coy sighed but took the hint. Jeb wasn't happy but went, too. Bo, Beth and Luke were hanging back quiet a bit. Luke tried to be encouraging, "It will all be over in a few minutes." Bo said only loud enough for Luke to hear, "You mean my life being over. That helps there cousin." Cue Beth
  2. Capt_Redneck Yeah, I know it's not possible the way the races are run now for other drivers to win 201 races. Richard Petty is the 'King' not just because of his wins but because of his contributions to the sport. I have never met him but have met Kyle. Yet, I have been to two races when Richard was running. One being his last race in Atlanta, as well as the Alabama concert the night before. Richard ran season for the fans. I could be wrong but this is just my opinion which may not be a very popular one. Now, I'm sorry I never like Earnhart, Sr. -- to me he just had more important things than his fans. At Atlanta that year he was in his personal car wanting out the gate before all the cars were off the track. NASCAR is what it is because of the drivers, yes. But if it weren't for us watching them drive you'd not have a sport. From the way the qualifying is going in Daytona it will be interesting tomorrow no matter who your driver is! Dixie
  3. LOL Dixie! PS still say Blondes don't have more fun!!!!!!!!
  4. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! When your driver -- who ever he is wins 201 call ME!!! LOL Dale Sr. may have 7 championships but i snowhere near the 201 wins!!!!!!!! Sorry! Dixie
  5. LOL Nothing like seeing acousin in trouble!!!!!!!! Dixie PS Glad it's not Luke this time!!!!!!!!!
  6. Everyone in Hazzard enjoyed a quiet prospourous holiday season. The moonshine business was very good that year with little trouble from the law. By Jan. Luke was no longer a teenager he turned twenty on Jan. 10, 19?6. In Early April Dixie had her big birthday celebration. It was celebrated with a pizza party followed by the entire bunch going to Placid County to go roller skating. Easter school break was also toward the end of April. Everyone had a touch of Spring fever. They all headed out to the lake for a bit of racing. No one paid much attention to Luke giving Dixie a ride out. Now with two convictions of racing and several points on his license Luke decided to let Bo race the General tonight. He gave the General Lee a once over. As before, Dixie and Luke watched several races. Dixie had planned to stay with Daisy tonight unknown to Jesse. She now vertually didn't have a time to be in. Her Dad knew she was staying with Daisy. By Jesse not knowing she planned to stay so he'd not pay any attention if Daisy beat her home. The night progressed without any law showing up. Though Bo had raced the General Lee several times it was Luke's turn to drive him home. Bo had finally gotten around to dating Beth steadily. Most everyone was heading off on their own to take the long way home tonight. Luke 'volunteered' to take Dixie home as Cooter had 'plans'. "I'm going to just make sure this fire is out." Luke called. Dixie said a bit nervous, "That was slick." As everyone else pulled out on there way home. Luke just smiled. He did make sure the fire was out then suggested riding down to the lake. He pulled the General Lee down into an open meadow that was just off the dirt road where they had raced. Luke asked, "Are you in any hurry to get home?" Dixie replied, "No, not at all." Luke said, "Good." He went to the trunk of the car and took out a a partial Mason jar of moonshine that he had been sipping on all evening. Luke placed the car keys on the dash, fixed him a glass of shine which Dixie was also sipping on. Luke was figuring on staying out until almost dawn then drifting the General Lee into the drive. He and Dixie would sneak in before Jesse got up. He and Dixie talked about all sorts of things for quiet some time. Luke poured the last of the shine into their glass and tossed the Mason jar to the bushes. As he turned around Dixie had move into the back seat of the General Lee, she said innocently, "There's more room back here." Luke cleared his throat before saying, "Well, yes there is. Are you sure?" Dixie smiled, "I am very certain, ........, there is more room back here." she said slowly. Luke didn't need a second invitation to join her in the back seat...............
  7. The Magistrate hearing the case just happened to be the one who set the 'boys' bond. 'Bob' spotted Dixie and Debbie and asked, "What are you all doing here?" Dixie answered, "Well, Bob, I've finally come home to marry my high school sweetheart IF you don't put him in jail and ruin my plans. I have a security tape I'd like you to see from the Boar's Nest before you continue this hearing?" Bob smiled. "Where's the tape?" Dixie handed him the tape. "Come on in the other room where we can all watch this." said the Magistrate. After watching the tape he asked the Dukes, "How do you want to plead?" As usual, it was Luke who answered for the bunch. "Not guilty." Bob smiled. "In everything I can see here Sheriff Strate, these guys are innocent. I find them not guilty and will free the hold on their farm." Bob looked at his watch. "The next hearing on the others is at 1pm. I'll see you back here then Sheriff. Court is adjorned!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Outside the court room the Dukes, family and friends were estastic! Luke asked, "Darlin' how well do you know Magistrate Potter?" She smiled, "I send him coffee every weekend he works. Why?" Luke replied, "I hope you keep doing it here." He kissed her. She said moments later, "Always!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With the Court hearing over and the guys got out of trouble without so much as a fine all they had to worry about was the upcoming wedding!!!! Cue Beth
  8. HE said it I swear!! Luke told ME!!! She tells him he's under arrest. Luke and Waylon advised maybe it was his technique????? LOL Care to comment Beth????? LMAO!!!!!!!!! Dixie
  9. After collecting the prize money the drivers stopped at the Boar's Nest for a beer. A young girl with a pony tail ran up to Cooter, "That was Great! Do you all race like that often?" Cooter hugged his sister, Dixie. "Every weekend. AND Hello to you too!" Luke and Angie walked up to Cooter. Luke said, "Cooter I really appreciate you helping me the other night with the General Lee." "Well, next time I think I may not want to help you quiet so well!" replied Cooter sacrastically since he'd come in second to the General Lee. Luke just grinned at him, then said, "Hey, who's your friend?" It had been years since Luke had seen Dixie as a child. Cooter asked, "Don't you remember Dixie? I told you she might come spend the summer with us." "That's right you did. Kiddo, I'd not have recognized you at all if I'd seen you somewhere else. You sure have grown up. Cooter let me at least buy you a beer." "I'll let you buy me a couple since I have a throat full of the General's dust." Luke, Angie and Cooter headed inside as Dixie talked with Daisy. Bo and Beth just watched all their friends headed inside. Cue Beth
  10. Bo,Luke and Jesse also wore suit coats in High Octane when they went to see the Probation Officer. My Favorite part of that one was when the still blew -- They asked Cooter if he was OK? He said Yes and shook his head No! Beth Bo wanted to give her Mouth to Mouth RECREATION! Luke said you mean Resusatation Dixie
  11. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The day before Thanksgiving Jesse handed Luke an official looking envelope. Luke sighed, "Care to guess when this court date is?" Jesse just gave him a bit of a dirty look. Jesse hadn't been happy that Luke was racing. No matter how much he explained that he admitted to it to keep the others out of trouble, Jesse still wasn't happy. Luke opened the envelope, took out the paper, saw it was set exactly when he suspected. He walked outside and cursed. He asked himself, 'How can anyone have three court dates in four months all scheduled on the 25th before the same Judge?' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Luke and Mark both plead guilty as agreed. Judge Hardcastle had said, "I'd like to teach you all a lesson but due to the fact Christmas is coming up and I'm a sucker for the holidays......." He paused, "Do you think you can manage to not come back before me this year if I only give you say, ......., fifteen days?" Luke and Mark both answered that they could. So they were sentenced to fifteen days and were made a promise that they would be sorry if they came back before the Court that year." Much to Luke and Mark's displeasure that statement was made in front of Rosco and the Troopers who they figured would do their best to arrest them before the first of next year. They were released Dec. 10th.
  12. The next morning Beth rolled over to see Bo awake and looking at her. She said sleepily, "What?" Bo brushed her hair back and said, "This." and kissed her. She asked several minutes later, "What brought that on?" Bo gave her that award winning smile of his and said, "You know waking up in this bed with you is much more appealing than waking up on a steel bunk with LUKE?" Beth glared at him, "I certainly HOPE SO!" "Just trust me on that. Ok?" he said as he leaned over and kissed her again. ~~~~~~~~~ A bit later Beth was surprised not to smell coffee as she came down the stairs. Luke was alway the first up. She eyed the couch as she went to the kitchen. 'I guess the couch is more comfortable too!' she thought to herself with a smile. Beth put on the coffee, a large pot for the others and a small decaf for herself. Just as it was ready and she thought of snitching just one cup from the large pot as Dixie entered the kitchen. "Caught you!" she said. "Hey, I only considered it for like the last five minutes!" they both laughed. "Did you see sleeping beauty on the couch?" asked Dixie. "I started to find a feather but just couldn't!" Beth almost couldn't hold the laughter in as Luke was walking in the kitchen behind Dixoe as she talked. He grabbed her around the waist and said, "A feather huh? What would you have done with it if you had?" Luke said as he tickled Dixie while holding her. Beth opened the back door and said, "Out of the house." Too late Dixie couldn't contain the squeal she let out as Luke continued to tickle her as they started toward the door. At the same moment, Luke quit tickling, set Dixie down, as all three saw the barn light on ..... Luke said, "Hey it wasn't us this time." Beth said "Quietly go find out whos' missing so we can get them in here before the kids wake up IF they haven't already." Luke returned to the kitchen, with a mischievious grin. Beth and Dixie asked, "OK. Who?" Luke replied, "Well, all I KNOW is Jeb isn't in the house." Cue Beth
  13. The evening continued much like this. Dixie occassionally sipped on Luke's beer. Bo had continued to race. Since Bo was driving home Luke continued to drink beer, though he was by no means drunk he was feeling 'good'. He was watching the group, he knew that Dixie wasn't the only one under eighteen drinking tonight, though she was more subtly than many who were drinking underage. Including several of his own cousins. Bo had parked the General Lee for the night content to watch the others most of whom were now drinking and racing. He made his way over to Luke at the wrecker. A car pulled up behind the wrecker for the most part unnoticed by anyone. As the driver approached, Luke saw the uniform. It wasn't Rosco. It was the State police. Luke swore to himself and whispered to Dixie, "Easy." As a couple others who were near Luke saw the uniform, they attempted to hide their beers, several started to run. Luke said, "Just hold up a second. Stay put!" For the most part the others listened to Luke who was standing by the wrecker still holding his beer. Luke recognized Trooper Mitchell who had a new trooper with him. "What can I do for you Trooper?" "Well, we've had complaints of racing up here." stated Trooper Mitchell. The younger trooper said as he took in the scene, "I'll get the PBT (Portable Breathalizer) and a ticket book. Should I call for a van?" The older Trooper said calmly, "Just hold up." He looked to Luke. "Has there been any racing going on tonight out here?" In his side vision he saw Jeb, Vance and Coy all had a beer in their hand. Luke saw no choice if he planned to keep a lot of people out of trouble. "Trooper Mitchell with so many people here tonight. Would you be satisfied with a conviction of second offense racing?" The older Trooper asked, "And DUI?" looking at Luke's beer. Luke knew he'd loose his license for a DUI. "I did race earlier before I started drinking." "Well, since we are 'bonding' here. I'll tell you I have pictures of you racing. I also have pictures of you drinking while in the car. Now, suppose you tell me who you were racing?" asked the Troooper. Luke knew if he had the pictures he said he did, that it had to be when he was racing Mark earlier. Luke attempted to bargain. "Suppose you let the rest of them go. I'll plead guilty to second racing, and public intox." "Suppose I pull out this picture and indentify the driver of that other car?" stated the Trooper who didn't want to haul in this whole bunch. He had really not wanted to stop here at all because he knew it would lead to way too much paper work before they got out of here. Before Luke could answer, Mark McCormick who was standing close by and saw what Luke was up to said, "He was racing me." "Have you been charged before for racing?" asked the older Trooper. Mark sighed, "Yes, so you'll have two second racings." Mark's date was also drinking and under eighteen. The younger Trooper asked his superior, "What about, ....?" He was cut short. The older Trooper said, "Look mostly what you'll end up with here is calling their parents and getting them chewed out for a little drinking. With hours upon hours of paperwork. You've got two agreements to plead guilty to jailable offenses. Had we not got that other call we may have been able to prove more than we can now. All we have is the pictures of these two racing. Besides, it will give the others something to think about." Luke had never taken his arm from around Dixie and still sipped on his beer. She looked at him in disbelief as he took another drink. Luke also felt her shake just a bit. "It's Ok." He said quietly. "Look I'm not going home tonight so what difference does it make. Are you still staying with Daisy?" She nodded, and was barely heard, "Yes." Luke whispered, he had heard her voice crack, "Don't do it. It will be Ok. You're going to be fine." Dixie nodded. Unable to speak at this point without crying and Luke had asked her not to. The older Trooper said, "Let's go." Luke thought quickly and handed his wallet to Dixie, saying, "Give that to Jesse." It contained his pay day from the garage and he hoped enough for Jesse to Bond him and Mark in the morning. Luke and Mark were both placed in handcuffs and put in the back seat of the cruiser. Mark said to Luke as the Troopers were fussing at the rest there. "Good move. All us over 18 would have been charged with Contributing if they'd wanted to push it. No matter where they got the beer." "That was my thinking and hopefully there are several of them that their parents won't know they were out here tonight by us doing this." said Luke as the handcuff began to dig into his wrist. "Just remind me of that later. I don't think Jesse will see my logic here. I really don't." "We're in the same boat on that one." said Mark about his parents. "And I think it has a whole in it." Luke glared at him as the Troopers got back in the car.
  14. With Luke and Cooter running so low on the track, Broody in #11 didn't have much other choice but to run extremely low since he was in the inside position in the third row. Enos saw the pack of guys that were normamly his friends behind him to his right was Ralph Green in #10. Enos knew he was about to get eatten for lunch! The Green flag dropped in the first turn they were four wide (Buzz, Enos, Ralph and Doebro) the others were three wide (Luke, Broody and Cooter). Most of the spectators held their breath. Bo didn't he was yellling at the whole field, "That track is NOT that wide!" Amazingly they made it through the first turn. Enos and Broody's cars started getting loose in the high banked turn and they were floating up the track. Cooter saw this and dropped back giving Broody room. Enos and Ralph traded a bit of paint and pushed Doebro up into the railing where Broody barely missed him. They all made it through turn two with Buzz and Ralph up front, followed by Luke and Enos with Cooter, Broody and Doebro close behind. They completed the first lap without a Caution which was very unusual. Going into turn one Luke and Cooter got close to try to get around Buzz together. Broody and Doebro both had thoughts of going high to try to get around Ralph but thought better of it when they saw Luke dive to the bottom of the track. Though Buzz might be compition in an overland race he didn't have anything on Luke and Cooter working together. Down the back stretch and into turn three Luke was now trading paint with Ralph who wanted by on the high side. Cooter and Buzz were having troubles of their own as the four cars started pulling away from the other three. As Luke rounded turn four into the front stretch the light went yellow. Enos had spun in turn two. Luke slowed the cars. It took several laps to get them all back in line the way they should be. It would be Row 1 -- Ralph, Buzz, Row 2 -- Luke, Cooter, Row 3 -- Broody, Doebro, Row 4 Enos. Enos took the back position because he caused the caution. When the green fell Luke and Ralph were playing bumper tag. The entire lap no one traded places. On the next lap Luke rode Ralph's bumper down the back stretch, dove to the bottom of the track and got sbeside Ralph in turn three. There were side to side as they hit a slick spot in the track and started sliding up the track. Buzz hit the rail but kept moving. Cooter seeing what was happening dove to the bottom of the track. When they had gotten straighten out on the front stretch it was Luke, Cooter, Ralph, Buzz, Broody, Doebro and Enos. Luke and Cooter worked together to pull away from Ralph and Buzz who were battling each other. The race continued uneventful for the next several laps. Broody had a tire go down on lap 18 which brought out a caution. The line up to take the green was : Luke, Cooter, Ralph, Buzz, Doebro, Enos and Broody. At the Green Ralph was trying to get under Luke. The General Lee being a Charger was one of the longest cars on the track. Ralph hoped to push Lukes back end around and make him spin. Cooter saw the two into it below him and gave them room. Luke held Ralph off going into turn three Luke was waiting for Ralph. When Ralph cam up behind him he hit the brakes just hard enough to make Ralph hit his bumper pretty hard which caused Ralph to spin as Luke saw the Starter display the one lap flag and Caution at the same time. The caution was called on Ralph because he spun. Only he and Luke knew why he spun! The green would come out for the final lap with Luke leading, Cooter, Buzz, Doebro, Broody, Enos and Ralph. The battle was for second as Cooter and Buzz were trading paint. It was only a small miracle that there was not another caution as Ralph was driving recklessly trying to make it back to the front of the pack before the Checked flag fell. Luke rounded Turn four and crossed the finish line as Cooter held of Buzz in turn four. At the end on the front stretch Luke, Cooter and Buzz all took the small road to the right to go have the cars weighted and checked out before the results could be made official. Cue Beth
  15. Saturday morning was warm and sunny. Luke and all the others did their chores in record time. Luke and Bo headed for the Boar's Nest about 9am for the noon deadline. Knowing the Hazzard law Luke was careful to drive just a bit under the limit. As luck would have it, they must have gotten out earlier than Rosco figured. They had a clear road all the way to town. Cooter met them at the Boar's Nest where the three touched up the windows, chrome and places both of the cars had gotten dusty. Dixie and Beth arrived about 1100 as others were beginning to gather. Jesse, Coy and Vance came in the pick up but Jeb had insisted on riding his motorcycle. All the racers and spectators gathered at the Boar's Nest both as a convienance to Bonnie Mae and to calm Boss's temper that they spending money at the race track. Now, organized racing in Hazzard was pretty new. A friend of Jesse's and her husband had a large amount of land just beyond the Boar's Nest. The soil there was only rich enough to grow rocks. A couple years ago with several teens in the area so interested in cars and racing, they took some old farm equipment, a used tanker truck and slowly started cutting away at the large area that they had once hoped would be a farm. With a lot of determination and against the wishes of the County, Bonnie Mae had made the best 4/10 mile oval dirt track in the several Counties. Entrance fees for the dirvers $20, for spectators $5. Bonnie Mae wasn't interested in getting rich. She just really wanted to give the teens something to do and a safe place to race. The winnings were First -- $500, Second -- $250, and Third -- $100. Once the track was watered and worked in somewhat all the drivers would make their way up the narrow dirt road to the track. Then the spectators would begin to follow after their dust settled. At the track there was a driver's meeting in the center of the oval where the rules were read, then each driver drew a number to see where he'd start the 20 lap race. The starting postions for today's race would be: First row (Inside) Enos -#12, Ralph - #10 (outside); Second row -- Buzz -#00, Doebro -#20, Third Row -- #11 Broody, Cooter -#88, and Fourth row -- Luke -#01. Luke wasn't happy with the starting postion but was determined to give the race his all. The pledge and prayer followed the drivers meeting. Then the drivers got themselves strapped in. They would all take several laps to work the track in before the race would begin. When the track was deemed ready the drivers would line up on the starting line in the correct order, the lead driver would start them out slowly aroung the track. When the starter was satisfied they were in line and bunched up, the starter would flash the green light which signaled they green flag would drop on the nest pass of the starting line. Luke rounded turn four spotted the light and saw it flash green. He edged up as close as he could to Cooter who was also running really low on the track both had plans to grab a few spots once the green flag dropped.
  16. Luke parked the General, took his beer back and handed Bo the keys. Luke and Dixie headed over to the wrecker to take a seat on the hood to have a good view of the rest of the racing. They watched a few races when Luke suggested, "Care to take a walk by the lake?" He knew no one would miss them with the racing going on. He took another beer with him as they started toward the lake. Down by the lake Luke stopped Dixie. "I know a lot has happened since you've been back in town. I am hoping we can date opening after your birthday. I think your Father would have a problem with you seeing me considering my reputation with the girls and now especially with the trouble that I've been in." Luke took a long drink of beer. "There's also a couple of things you need to know. One of which I'll have to ask you not to talk about. I have only shared this with one other girl I dated. First, I want you to know that the local law here has 'wanted' me and Bo since we have been 18. They are out to get us for anything they can get on us." Dixie gave Luke a confussed look as she reached for his beer taking a drink. Luke continued, "There is a reason they want us and that reason is something I need you to keep to yourself?" Dixie nodded 'yes' as she said, "Sure, Luke. I'll not tell anyone." Luke tried hard to impress the seriousness of the issue. As he watched her take another sip of his beer. "Dixie, what I'm going to tell you, should you get mad at me and decide to tell this could get my whole family in trouble, not just me. You need to know that this is very serious and that's why it's not shared. Our families go way back, Cooter and you Father know what I'm going to tell you. This is another reason I think you Dad would object to us seeing each other." Luke looked into her eyes and was convienced that he could trust her probably more so than he'd trusted anyone before. He finished the first beer they were drinking and opened a second. "Dixie, my family has ran moonshine for the last two hundred years. Now, things are getting pretty hot. They are trying to put a stop to it in this area. Now, as for Rosco, Boss and the others they want to put us away to slow Jesse down. See Uncle Jesse makes the best and doesn't short cut his shine. If Jesse can't deliver, ...." Dixie saw where he was going and finished the sentence. "Then Boss sells more. Rosco is his puppet to stop you all?" "Exactly. So if we are ever together don't be surprised if I get shook down. They could stop me in any vehicle at any time and shake me down. I'll promise you this. No matter what vehicle you're ever in with me there won't be any moonshine in it. Unless it would be planted there and then I'd take full responsibility for it. I just wanted you to know the possiblilty of us getting stopped is there so you won't be too shocked if and when it happens." Luke explained. At this point Dixie shivered just as bit as it sunk in that Luke thought she was something special. "You can count on me to keep your secret." "If I thought I couldn't, I wouldn't have told you." Luke said as he kissed her. Luke could still hear the the racing going on from where they were. After awhile they made their way back to the wrecker to watch some more of the races. As usual the General Lee was undefeated. Luke opened another beer as Doebro Doolin walked up, saying. "What do you say we give it a try?" Luke looked at his third beer, "Not tonight. You should have been here earlier. Bo might take you on." "OK, I'll go talk to Bo. See ya'll." Doebro said as he walked off to find Bo.
  17. I tpo am glad the race season is here though I worked Sundays and can't keep like I'd like. I'll have to settle going to a local dirt track soon on Sat. nights! I agreed Mary Ann that my favorites are retired. I'm Not really up on the new drivers. Dixie PS: When ya'lls driver's win 201 call me......Yep, I'm a PETTY fan! Would love to see his cars do SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!
  18. NARRATOR: As luck would have it. Ralph and his friends went to Court the day after Luke, Bo, Cooter and Mark got out. They were also each sentenced to 30 days Credit time served. 'At least the Judge was equal.' They would be released near the end of October. Luke was working at the garage helping Cooter change an engine in Mercury Capri. The motor had blown on the previous owner and Cooter bought it, planning to change the engine and resale it. They were installing a 5 speed Turbo charged engine that Cooter had lucked up on in a trade. The little car should really scoot with it's light body and the Turbo charged engine. Luke asked, "Got any buyers for this thing yet?" Cooter replied, "Nah, not many people know I have it yet. Figured to maybe drive it myself to see what it will do before putting a 'for sale' sign on it. Luke replied, "Let me know first, OK? I might know someone wanting it." "Sure thing there Lucas. You know it would never hang with the General or any of our cars." Cooter explained. Luke said, "That's the whole point." Cooter just shrugged and didn't ask anymore questions. Doebro Doolin pulled into the garage about then in his green El Camino. "Cooter, got time to put a timing light on this thing? Everyone's going to go to the lake tonight and race them." "Sure, pull on in. This can wait." Cooter replied. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dixie talked to Daisy later they had plans to spend the night at Daisy's. Daisy and Dixie agreed to meet at the lake and watch the guys race for a bit before going to the farm. At the lake Luke was at the General Lee with the hood up as Dixie and Daisy approached. Dixie asked "Problem?" Luke said, "Nah, just checking him out before we run him." Daisy asked, "Oh, Lord. Who's driving?" "Well, I thought I'd run him a couple of times. Then Bo's wanting to try his luck with a couple guys that should get here anytime." Mark McCormick showed up with his Firebird, "Care to let me try this thing out against the hottest car in the County?" Luke handed his beer to Dixie to hold. "Sure thing." They lined up. The flag was dropped by Daisy. Luke planned to take it a bit easy against his friend who had done major work to the Firebird. The Firebird jumped to the lead. Luke back shifted into passing gear and passed the Firebird easily about half way down the road they had set up as a race strip. When Luke saw Mark in the rear view mirror he shifted to Neutral and coasted across the Finish line. They both turned and went back to the stating point. Mark asked Luke as he craweled out of the General. "Best two out of three? I want to try something else." Luke said, "Sure as soon as they get off the strip." He motioned to the next two that were getting ready to race. Dixie walked over to Luke still holding his beer. Setting in the window of the General Lee, Luke took a long drink of it before getting set to run a second time. Luke and Mark lined up. The second race went much like the first with Luke taking an easy win.
  19. Cooter (Ben Jones) and Bo (John Schneider) are in Smokey and the bandit also! In one of the teen books YEARS ago it gave Bo's credits which listed Smokey and the Bandit. We watched, rewatched, and rewatched. We backed it up, fast forwarded, and paused it so many times I can still quote it line for line -- The only possible place he could be is when the 'crew' at the drive in blocks the road. Watch for a green jeep -- in the back is a blonde with sun glasses on! It has to be BO! As for Cooter, at a autograph signing it was said he was in Smokey and the Bandit. Like I said I've watched it MORE than a few times but I came home and watched it again. YES, he is there. Near the very beginning when Big and Little Enos are at the Truck Rodeo looking for the Bandit. They ask a guy standing in front of a rig if he's seen the Bandit. The guy asked "who's askin' " Then the girl says he's over there. Look really close at the guy standing in front of the rig it is COOTER with Long hair and NO grease! And Yes Enos is the the motorcycle cop that is going to ticket Snowman when Bandit and Carrie decoy him off the truck. Dixie
  20. It's been awhile since I've seen that show. Maybe where he shows up on the bike or after he's cleaned up and goes to the jail to get Bo and Luke. Just a nice close up if you can. Do you know what season that one was on? I think it was pretty early???? Dixie
  21. As Jeb cam back from changing his shirt. Jesse stopped him as the others were still gathered in the living room, he said, "Jeb come here just a minute before you leave." Jeb did as instructed. "I know you are in a hurry and I'll not make you late. But, I have something to say to you all while I have all of you here together. I can't uphold Bo and Beth in this. What they did was wrong. I have already expressed this to Bo, Miss Beth. Like I told him though a baby, any baby is special and is never a mistake. The mistake comes into the timing. I want all of you to know that they are going to need a lot of help and support from us. I let Bo know that there is always room for his family under this roof." Jesse smiled a bit at Beth and Bo. "You all may be a thin' that this is just there problem, well, you'd be dead wrong. This is going to effect each and everyone of you in one way or the other in some very simple ways like maybe there's an extra dish to wash, or later maybe just getting woke a time or two by a hungry baby. Then there may be times that won't be so simple, like hearing something you don't like said about either Bo or Beth. They are family and though they are starting their own family they are every bit as much a member of this family as you are. That said you all may go." Jeb wasted no time leaving. Yes, he was in a hurry but Bo, Luke and Jesse thought there was more to it. Coy, Vance and Daisy went to clean the kitchen. Luke didn't think the discussion was over. He looked to Bo, "I can stay if you like or I can go give the General Lee one more once over." It was Jesse that answered for Bo, "Take a seat Luke. Maybe you can help them decide the best time to tell Beth's folks. Bo have you thought any more about what I told you earlier on this matter." "Yes, I have. Beth, Uncle Jesse said we could invite you folks over for dinner tomorrow night. That way we could tell them here where we know we have support." said Bo. "Thank you Uncle Jesse." she said with tears in her eyes. "I love Bo and all of you. Thank you for all your support. I am just so scared and I know that I will be a disappointment to them." Jesse tried to comfort the teen, "Honey, you might have made choices that they won't be happy about and they might be upset at first. Just remember they love you and everything will work out. With the race tomorrow, can I plan on having your parents over for Sunday dinneror have you all made other arrangements to tell them?" Beth looked at Bo, then replied, "............................ Cue Beth
  22. ******** This post comes with a PG warning. ********* ********** Nothing is really said but is strongly implied. ******** NARRATOR: Things in Hazzard were sure quiet for the next 30 days with the guys locked up. About the only excitement was school had started back. A couple of days into school Dixie was asked out by one of the football players. She for no reason she could think of, turned down the football player. "Humm, .... Wonder why she said 'No.' ?" The boys were released near the end of September. The closer their release date got, the more the boys had planned to go juk'in when they got home. Mark planned on taking his steady Sharon, Cooter also planned to take his steady Kathy. Bo and Luke had other ideas. Bo had tried to date Jill but was 'getting' nowhere. Several girls had written him over the last month. Now, he'd thought about asking Beth out but not for this. Luke also wanted to ask Dixie out but the more the guys had talked the more Bo and Luke both figured they'd ask someone that was a little more of a 'sure thing' as they were all a bit 'frustrated'. Luke remembered Carol's offer of enertainment the last time he came home. Dixie and Beth had offered their help to Jeb for the night the guys were released so they would have an excuse to go to the Boars' Nest. All Dixie had talked about was Luke to Beth. They had both been writing the guys as the Visitaion was set up during school so they were unable to visit. Jeb who was now driving picked up Beth and Dixie. Dixie and Beth were dressed to get attention (they looked much older) though respectable. It was a couple of hours after Jeb and the others got to the Boars Nest before Bo, Luke, Cooter, Mark and their dates showed up. As the guys came in they were welcomed back by all their friends there. Dixie turned and saw Luke with Carol. She stopped dead in her tracks. Luke saw the 'very hurt' look on her face as he took in her appearance that was obviously for his benefit. 'DA--!!!' he thought. 'I just messed up!' The others took a table, but Luke suggested to Carol, "Let's grab a quick beer then get on with the 'entertainment'." Dixie headed for the restroom determined not to let Luke know she was upset she was followed by Beth. Beth was also dissappointed. In Bo's letters he had almost said they would go out. When the girls returned to the bar room Luke and Carol had left. Luke and Carol went to get on with 'things'. Luke had every intention of it not taking long. He hoped to get back to the farm, take a shower and return to the Boars' Nest before Dixie left. He was sure she'd not like his explaination but hoped she'd understand it. On the way home Carol sulked. She knew exactly why Luke had asked her out. She had played right into his hand. Usually Luke was a fun night but it was only 10pm and they were heading home. He had used her but then she had opened the door to be used when she called him last month. By 11pm Luke walked in the Boars' Nest smelling of fresh after shave. He studied the crowd. Luther Davenport wasn't there. Cooter, Mark, Bo and the girls had already left. Luke spotted Dixie who turned her head away from him. Jeb, Coy and Vance witnessed the following exchange but didn't think too much of it. Luke walked over to where Dixie stood with Beth. "Dixie, I'm sorry. Give me five minutes to explain then if you still want to be mad I'll not bother you again." At this point Dixie wanted nothing more than to be stubborn, but if she was she wouldn't hear the explaination and might loose something before it had a chance. She nodded, and said hoarsely, "Ok." "Come on." he said as they headed outside. "You didn't mean anything you wrote did you?" she asked showing her anger. Luke replied, "Yes, I meant everything I wrote to you." He sat down on the General's hood with his feet on the bumper. "I am sorry I hurt you. For the last month I thought about you, wrote you and dreamed of YOU. Excuse me for being a little crude. Darlin', believe me that can be quiet frustrating especially when you are in jail with three other guys and there's nothing you can do about being frustrated." Dixie was getting the picture and blushed. Luke knew the explaination was getting through. "I am a heel, a jerk, a real dog. But, I thought too much of you to 'use' you. Last month when you were at the house, Carol called and propositioned me. I turned her down. As you well know I've spent quiet a bit of time in jail, working or here with band. Frankly, it has been awhile but I knew we weren't ready to cross that line. I respect you too much to ask you to do something you are not ready to do." Dixie wasn't really happy with Luke's explaination but understood it. She looked into Luke's eyes with tears in her own eyes. All Luke could say was, "I'm sorry." He pulled her into his arms and gave her the kiss he had wanted to a month ago. The kiss intensified and lasted several minutes when the sound of a familiar truck was heard approaching. Luke pulled himself away from Dixie, "That's your Dad coming." She hurried to straighten her hair before returning to the others in the Boars' Nest. Luke was having his own trouble trying to straighten his own self out before going inside. Dixie couldn't help but notice he was a bit uncomfortable and couldn't resist. "So do you feel better after going out with Carol?" Luke looked her in the eye and said, "No. ...... Worse now." he said as he took her hand in his. It was obvious to her what he meant! Luke now figured on a third shower, a cold one when he got home! Dixie couldn't help but laugh and blush as they walked inside.
  23. Once at the jail Luke said as Rosco locked the door behind them after putting them in the holding cell until Peggy could get there to book them in. "I told you that this wasn't going to be good." After being searched and booked they were taken downstairs to the two cells below. Though cards were not allowed in Jesse's house they were allowed in the jail. The boys attempted to pass time with either cards or checkers. None of the four free spirited guys took to being locked in the small jail cells. Peggy had let Jesse bring them several car magazines which they took turns reading and re-reading, but found them not that interesting since there wasn't a car there to try the new things they were reading about on. Of course they each took turns doing a far amount of pacing back and forth in the six by eight cell. A couple of days into the boredom Peggy came down with four letters. Cooter's as expected was from Kathy. She wrote ...... Honey, I miss you! I know you couldn't and wouldn't have let your friends fight out numbered without at least evening the odds, but Daddy doesn't understand it. He's going to be a problem for us when you get home. I wanted you to know in case he trys telling you something like I don't want to talk to you. He'd do it but its not true. I've had more fun in the time we've been seeing each other than I have with any of those 'Country Club' guys he wants me to date. I'm just not the evening gowned 'belle of the ball' he wants me to be. I'd much rather wear jeans and go to the Boar's Nest with you. I know you're sharing this with the guys, but I don't care. I love you Cooter! Love ya, Kathy PS. Tell the others 'Hi!' Mark was a bit surprised to see his was from his sister, Robin. She wrote ....... Mark, Have you lost all your senses? You know they (her parents) have always told you that if you got yourself into trouble they would let you get yourself out of it. Yet, I hear you jumped right in to back Luke. What was this all over? I'm only hearing Ralph's side which I take with a grain of salt. Then there's David digging at him about Luke. Then, he reverses his line on me trying to get under my skin. For what its worth tell the others I'm sorry. I don't know what happened but feel it's some how my fault. Love Ya, Your Sis. Bo was surprised to see his letter was from Daisy's friend, that he'd danced with at the Boar's Nest, Beth, who started, ......... Bo, I wanted to write you and let you know that I enjoyed our dance the other night. I was hoping to get to know you a bit better until everything got crazy. That fight was unbelieveable! You all showed them! Did I hear right? All that was over Luke helping his ex-girlfriend because she was broke down? I hope they aren't still a thing because I think someone else really likes him. If your not too busy answering the other girls letters you can write me back if you like. Beth. ...... (Beth hoped he'd let her know if he was dating anyone if he wrote her back.) Luke saw his envelope was from Dixie. He attempted to conceal this from Cooter for the time being. He opened the letter which read, ....... Luke, I wanted to let you know I was thinking about something you told me. Yes, I was feeling guilty about you going to jail becasue of me. I saw for myself the other night, then Daisy also explained that you are just the kind of guy who won't stand for anyone to hurt a girl no matter who she is. I am proud to have all you guys as my friends and I am proud of my brother too. The guys where I'm from would never have done what you all did. Nor would any of them have asked my Dad to his face about taking me out that first we went to hear the band. They would have asked me then I'd have had to done the talking Dad into it. I hope you won't share this with Cooter. I wanted you to know something else. The day by the barn -- that was my first kiss. It wasn't like any first kiss that I've been told about though! I enjoy singing with you all at the Boars' Nest even though I was scared to death I'd forget the words. I was able to talk them into letting me go to school here this year! I can't wait for my birthday in April so I may get to make more of those choices for myself. At least I'll still be here when you get home. Dixie Cooter was the first to finish his letter and said, "Ok, let's switch." Bo and Mark handed over their letters as Luke put his in his pocket. "Oh, now that's not fair. Hey, Bo who was his letter from anyway?" Bo replied, "Beats me." Luke just smiled, "Never mind and I was asked not to share with you guys." Mark said, "Must be someone who knows us pretty well. Was it Robin?" Luke replied, "That is the last person who'd write me." ~~~~~~~~~~ Late that night, when Luke thought the others asleep he pulled out Dixie's letter, reading it again. He sat up on the top bunk, got a few sheets of paper he'd put up there earlier and began to write. He left the name off it until finished it. Beginning simply: Thanks for the letter. I'm not very good at putting things into words but I will try. It has been a long while since I have wanted to say things to a girl bad enough to put them into words. Just a word of caution, Jesse has always told us 'Never put things in writing that you don't want the whole world to see. Because you never know where or when that slip of paper will come back to haunt you.' So there may be things I'd tell you that I might not put on paper. You asked me not to share a part of your letter, well, I didn't but it wasn't easy not too. We have about memorized the car magaizes and they are bored. I can't wait to hear what you meant about that. Like I told you you have no reason to feel guilty and I hope your writing me wasn't out of that guilt. As you saw we were all very capable of getting ourselves in this mess. Trouble does seem to find us Dukes. I'm glad you are going to school here this year and even more glad that you will be here when I got out. I'd have to agree things should be much different after your birthday. Luke He addressed the envelope putting the return address as Cooter Davenport. He folded the letter, then went back and added Dixie to the top of the page. After sealing the letter he slide it towards Peggy who was setting at the desk. She raised her eyebrows at the return address. Luke replied, quietly, "Don't ask." "Who? Me?" she said. Luke knew she had seen the incoming letter from Dixie. Through out the many long nights Luke thought about Dixie and how things would be different after she turned 18 in April. That way Cooter or her Dad could protest but they couldn't stop them from dating if they still wanted to then. It would also be up to her if she stayed in Hazzard. Luke decided to just ride this thirty days out, then they'd all be busy through the upcoming holidays. He'd turn twenty in January then she'd be eighteen in April. He thought, 'Yes, this could work.' NARRATOR: 'It's ashamed that even at such an early age how those Duke boys could figure so much out and STILL be so far off base! Don't go for the cookies and milk yet fokes!'
  24. Luke asked, "How were you able to use the farm?" Beth told them, "When we get home there is something you guys have to read." Dixie looked at Debbie. It was time to let their cat out of the bag. Unknowing that Luke already had. "If I'd know 'Bob' was the Mag. the bonds would have probably been less." Debbie caught her statement. She wasn't sure how these guys, especially Jeb would feel about them being Correctional Officers. She shot Dixie a dirty look. "Well, as much coffee as we've sent him on the weekends. You're probably right." "I'm not even going ask, but I for one would like a hot shower and I thought you all had last minute things to do today for the wedding. That is if you'll still have me?" Luke looked at Dixie. She handed him the keys to his truck with a smile. As they walked to the truck, she said, "Luke Duke you'll not get ride of me that easy. You've visited that jail occasionally since I was what 15?" At the truck Luke picked Dixie up and said, "Good! But do you have to keep reminding me of that?" before kissing her. They were blocking everyone from getting in on the driver's side. It was Bo, Jr. who tapped his 'uncle on the shoulder. Luke looked up to see the line of cousins behind him waiting to get in the truck. "Now, this is not going to work. Is this the only vehicle you brought?" Dixie nodded, "We figured it was warm enough with the camper on that you guys could ride the back." Luke said, "Well, that might work. But why did you give me the keys?" "Force of habit." she answered. The ladies all managed to get in the front of truck, while the guys got in the back. They were off to the Duke farm. ~~~~~~~~ Bo opened the kitchen door to a smell of bacon and eggs. Ruth Ann was at the stove finishing up breakfast as they all came in. Bo looked at Beth who gave him an 'It's Ok.' look. Yet, Bo knew somewhere he'd pay for last night. Ruth Ann said, "The others have eaten. Can I go call Natan? Were suppose to go find him something to wear for next weekend." Beth said, "Yes, go ahead. Thanks for watching the kids until we got back." "No, problem Mom." she went off to call Nathan. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After the guys cleaned up and everyone had breakfast they all ended up on the front porch drinking coffee. Jesse, Caroline and Michaela were finishing up their chores. Beth came out with the note that had been folded up with the deed. "Luke you are the oldest, I thought you'd like to read this to the others." Beth said handing Luke the note. Luke opened the folded paper noticing immediately that the writing was Jesse's. Dixie, Daisy and Beth all nodded to Luke that he was seeing what he thought he saw. Luke began, " 'Beth, Daisy or whomever has the need of this deed: I hope that the reason for pulling out this deed is only because those nephews of mine are in a bit of hot water with Rosco and JD. I know my boys. Though Bo and Beth are living on the farm when this is written, there may come a time that this property that has been in the Duke family for over two hudred years is needed to get either Bo or Luke or the others out of trouble. I know if their name is on the deed that it can not be used to post bond. Therefore, I am recording it in Daisy's name as sole owner. Now, you boys have long since picked your own part of the farm. I want each of you to have your own part. I trust that you six love each other and me enough not to fight over this place on Earth. I know you boys! Daisy is the hope of this here family. Daisy, Honey, use this deed to help keep the boys out of trouble like I have all these years. I love each and every member of this family as much today as the day I wrote this. Now, get them boys OUT! Love Uncle Jesse.'" It took Bo a minute to find his voice, but when he did he voiced what was on everyone's mind. He said with a bit of surprise, "He knew!" Luke nodded 'yes', "You mean that surprised you? He always knew us better than we knew ourselves." Now it was Dixie's turn. "While we all are here there's something I'd like to say. As a matter of fact, I feel as though I've not been honest with you all. Even though it hasn't came up nor seemed important I have to admit I wasn't ready to get into this up until now. Most of you all know how Rosco and Boss used to yank these guys chains. Everytime something didn't go just right or something happened they didn't know who did it these guys went to jail. Well, to make a long story shorter, after I got out of school I had the opportunity to go take some college classes. I kept coming back to the Criminal Justice field. I thought in, ...... ,well you know I have a warped since of logic, .... , some sort of stange way that if I could become a Correctional Officer that I'd in some way be making up for the dishonest way things were done here if I did the job well." she paused, "Luke and Cooter were the only ones who knew this until now. I'm sorry I didnt' say anything before. I just didn't want you to think that I 'sold' out to the other side." Luke put his arm around her just a bit tighter. "Honey, you know that we have always been on the side of the law as long as it wasn't trying ot frame us for something we didn't do." Bo shook, his head in agreement. "You know the only thing Jesse upheld that was against the law was 'running shine' because we had been doing it before the law passed to say we couldn't." "Thanks, guys. Now, for the down side of this. I worked on the other side of Atlanta, which would be too far to drive from here. After the first of the year I'll be transfered down to Tri-Counties Jail. I took vacation until after the first. So, if, .... " Luke finished the thought for her. "So if this should end up badly or we do something stupid, Tri-Counties houses for Hazzard, Placid, and Chickasaw Counties." "Well, yes, it does, but only if they are overcrowded or they sentence is longer than 30 days." Said Debbie. Dixie found herself looking from one to the other of the guys for reaction before she continued. Her gaze stopped more on Jake and Bo, Jr., "Guys should it ever happen. I have a job to do. I will do it. I may not like it but I will. Should it happen and there be something in within my job I can do, I will. Should it be outside what I can do, I can't and won't." Luke said, "That said, I suggest we all decide right now to mind our P's and Q's. I for one don't want to look at my wife through bars." NARRATOR: "Now, I saw a shiver run up more than old Luke's back when he said that!" Beth said, "This is all nice but ladies we have a lot to do today." Cue Beth
