When dixie arrived she saw Lori setting on that same big rock and Dixie walked over to were she was at and said softly, "Lori?" Lori looked up at Dixie. Dixie could tell she had been crying. Dixie began, "Sugar, I'm sorry that we both ended up here together with what looks like the same purpose. If I would have known you were coming here to see Luke, I would have waited until you played your hand......" Dixie said before getting cut off by Lori. She loved her older cousin but just didn't see her as Luke's type for anything more than a one night stand. It was likely Luke had considered this before, but since she was Cooter's cousin, Dixie felt that Luke may not have wanted to risk the friendship they had for a one night stand.
-
Before Dixie could reply. Luke had finally realized that everyone was looking at him for his reaction. He replied, "Lori, its been ages since you've came through these parts." He wiped the wrench he had in his hand off as she announced she was going to Cooter's to change. "Hey, don't be silly. There's the bathroom in the back and there's still Cooter's hide away upstairs, that is if you don't want to drive all the way out of town to change." Bo added, "Sure, don't run off yet." Bo knew she liked Luke. He also knew Luke and Dixe's past history! It was going to be an interesting weekend!

This story will have Dixie Davenport in it but has nothing to do with Going Home Again 3 or Danged Fool which is currently still a 'work in progress'. 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 Dixie Davenport looked up from the General Lee where she had been getting a part number to check prices of a replacement part. She had did this job at the garage (When in Hazzard) since she was fifteen. Dixie was the youngest of the three Davenport cousins. Actualy she was the youngest of the whole bunch except for Coy Duke. She was four years younger than Luke Duke, a fact that had caused both them many problems in their younger years. She was also about four years younger than Lori, but she had always been more mature and settled than her rembunchious cousin. Maybe it was those points that had lead to Luke thinking she was eighteen when she had only been sixteen. She smiled at the better part of those memories; sneaking sips of Luke's drinks at the Boar's Nest or at the lake where the guys used to race. Yeah, Dixie may have changed over the past few years but it only made her more self assured. She had been away from Hazzard since she was sixteen up until last night. Cooter had called to say that all the long lost Davenports were coming in for the long Memorial Day weekend. He called her every year of two when these gathering were about to happen but Dixie had never returned to Hazzard, but this time she was determined to come back to see if her feelings for Luke were the same. She felt she either needed to move forward with him or finally get over him. Wouldn't you know it, Lori would also show up! They had competed against each other for Luke's attention since before they started elementary school. Lori had some advantages, Dixie had to admit. Though she was as wild as they came driving and racing around, Lori had always been a real 'good girl'. Dixie smiled, well, she had too until that changed one night up by the lake in the backseat of the General Lee when she had just turned sixiteen. She also remembered Luke's reaction when she walked in the Boar's Nest last night. He almost chocked on his beer! They had stayed up until the rooster crowed this morning talking out a lot and her she was right where she felt she ought to be, by his side helping with the General Lee. No she may not be in heels and a fancy dress but he seemed to appreciate her halter top and short shorts that showed off her very long legs. She didn't have to wonder what brought Lori back she knew and he was standing on her right side. As she replied to Lori's question she had to get a quick look at Luke's reaction, "Lori?" On her right Luke kept his reaction neutral as he heard the familiar voice. As he looked up from the General Lee he saw the amused look Bo was giving him.

"Ah, yeah, Dad and Cooter will be needing those parts. Agent Roche is sure in a hurry to get his car back according to what Dad said." Dixie said. Luke replied unthinking, "Yeah, he usually is in a hurry to get back on the job. They said he was all up in the air about being ran off the road by a white pickup truck!" He laughed knowingly. Dixie looked at him a bit confussed, "You've dealt with him before?" Luke replied thinking she meant at the garage, "Yeah, I've pulled him out several times. He's always in a hurry to get back in the 'game'." "Game?" Dixie replied. Though Luke offered no personal information, he talked with a knowledge that made Dixie wonder. "Yeah. Though the moonshiners here are doing their all to get their products delivered, the agents as well as your local law are doing all they can to stop them. But, at any large gathering, event or holiday you see people from opposite 'sides' enjoying passing the time of day with each other." "You do?" Dixie asked. She was very neive to the 'goings on' of Hazzard. Luke replied, "Why sure ya do. I've even seen an agent or two take a nip of good shine to toast a special occassion." Dixie looked shocked, "You have? Wow! I sure do wonder who could have ran Agant Roche off the road. He said it was a white pick up. The only white pick up I know is your Uncle Jesse's and I don't know why he'd run a law man off the road." Luke just looked at the innocent girl beside him. He now fully realized that she did not know that his family and himself made and ran moonshine. He thought surely as much as she had been around that she would know or at least have a clue, but he couldn't tell her. He'd risk the whole Duke family, yet the Duke and the Davenports had few secrets! Still in shock he relied, "The only one I know in these parts is Jesse's. So, ah, ... I wouldn't know. Maybe he was wrong about the color?" Luke punted to buy some time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Meanwhile back in Hazzard........ -

Dixie replied a bit discouraged, "No. Everyone still thinks of me as 'Cooter's little sister'. Do you have any idea how aggravating that is?" Luke replied, "Maybe more than you think I do. Lord knows I heard Daisy, Bo and Jeb complain about it for years. It's nothing Cooter or I can help. We are the oldest. Everyone knows us." He changed ideas, "Where can someone find Doc's office?" Dixie looked at him with a strange look, "You know he lives in the white house right behind old man Moore's blue house." Luke replied, "Even though old man Moore died about 5 years ago?" Dixie looked at him like he was from Mars. Luke smiled, "Yeah, everyone in Hazzard will tell you the same directions, but what I'm getting at is that the blue house was old man Moore's and no matter who lives there it will still be referred to as 'old man Moore's house, because everyone had him as a teacher, knew him or knew or him. Hell, I think he taught Jesse in grade school!" Dixie saw where Luke was coming from. "I know all that, but it seems everyone treats me like I'm three! The last time I was at the Boar's Nest, even for teen night, was when we all went." "Honey, ya ain't three!" Luke said with a smile, then, ...... -

As Bo and the others returned to the Duke farm, Uncle Jesse stepped out on the porch to get a look at his 'stray lamb'. To his surprise, he saw no sigh of Luke. He thought he had made it clear to Bo what he had expected when he let him pick Luke up. They were supposed to go to the garage and check with Mr. Davenport about Luke doing some work for him and then return home after picking the others up, Jesse thought. Before Jesse could say anything, Bo read his expression, "Uncle Jesse, Mr. Davenport sent Luke on a part run. He'll likely bring the wrecker home or Cooter will bring him home." Relief showed in Jesse's face. "Ok, Good. I'll have supper ready directly." ~~~~~~~ Luke thought of a reasonable place to get a good meal. "Hey, I know a little place right outside of Hotlanta. It's not really too big or fancy but they have good food." Dixie replied with honesty, "Well, we're going there for the food, right? So who cares about all that fancy stuff that my Mother likes. Ya know, sometimes I wonder how her and Dad every got together. They are so different." Luke replied, "Well, maybe you should ask them or even Uncle Jesse sometime. But, I always heard opposites attrack. Just look at how different Robin and I were." "Were?" Dixie questioned, "So, .... does that mean you all are really 'over' and you're over her?" Luke thought a brief moment before answering, "Yeah, were. And, yes we have been over since the last time we broke it off. I realized I was over her for good awhile back after I'd showed myself for far too long." "Well, I hate things didn't work out for ya," she lied, "but, if it was over, I'm glad you're OK with it." Luke replied, "Thanks, now how about some food?" He said as they pulled up to a small building with a hand painted sign that read, 'Ryan's'. ***** Dixie noticed the place was pretty croweded for such a small place. It was set up as an 'All You Can Eat' buffet which contained a salad section as well as several different hot dishes and a grill where they were cooking steak. Luke said as they were seated, "I hope you aren't one of those girls who go out to eat and only eat two bites." Dixie motioned her hands down herself and said in disbelief, "Do I really look like I'm one of those girls?" She knew she was a bit larger than most her friends. Luke looked at her and said seriously, "Well, you could be one of them. You can't think you're fat or anything? You're about Daisy's size. I know you two have traded clothes before." "Yeah, me and Daisy are about the same size. And, no I'm not going to just eat two bits of salad. As a matter of fact, I think I saw ice cream over there." "Yeah, there is. Sounds like you're my kind of dinner date." Luke joked lightly with Cooter's kid sister. But, it did seem like she was growing up nicely. -

As Bo talked to Cooter, Dixie saw her father coming into the room. She walked over to him and said, "Well, well, if it isn't the long lost Duke." She lightly teased. She knew Luke pretty well and didn't want to make him mad or embaress him. Luke could be a very prideful person and she knew he'd likely been ribbed pretty hard by Bo and Cooter already. She turned to her father, "Ya know those parts should be ready by now." Luther nodded with a sigh, "Yeah, Honey I know, but Cooter and me haven't had the chance to go get them." Luke spoke up, "I'll grab the truck and run over and get them before they close, if you need me to." Cooter played right into his hand, "That would be a big help. I can have this torn down and be ready to put the new parts in by the time ya get back." He looked at his father. Luther shook his head and tossed Luke the keys to the six wheeled part truck. "Do you think ya can stay clear of the hooscal *** long enough to get back here with the parts?" Luke just looked at Mr. Davenport. Dixie saw her chance and said with a laugh, "I could go along to keep him out of trouble." Luther didn't stop long enough to even think about his reply, "Yeah, you go and do just THAT." Luke called as he and Dixie were getting in the truck, "It does still have full coverage (insurance) on it, right?" "Yeah, and I'll keep it on there as long as you are driving it!" Luther Davenport replied seriously as he watched his truck back out of the lot. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Luke winked at Dixie, "Well, done! Where would you like to eat at? The Hazzard Diner has had chipped beef as a special too long." Dixie laughed and replied, "................. *** hooscal -- Though I may not have spelled it right, it's a word my grandfather used to use when he referred to jail. -
It was none other than Luke Duke driving the famous General Lee that particular day and he saw what was happening, though he wasn't sure why. But this was Cooter's family; so it was Luke's family! he has to do SOMETHING! The something was ...................

I had a great time this year as I have the last 4 years (this was #5 for me and my new husband's first). He loved it! I didn't think last year was 'bad' as some did. When you have that many people there will be lines! But the security and Hazzard County Crew was much more plentiful this year. Last year I noticed one secuirty officer looking really nervous as we all packed in around the stage when the cast all were about to come out before the jump. I mentioned this to Ms. Alma and her reply was, 'The company we hired, Nashville and us were just blown away last year." In ref. to the security company she said, "Firstly, they THOUGHT it was a normal concert. They didn't realize we were talking about Dukes of Hazzard fans -- and there is a difference!" We got to the fairgrounds around 8 on Sunday -- my husband wanted to see Daisy. The gates weren't suppose to open until 9:30 and autographs beginning at 10. Well the autograph lines were forming rapidly. I jumped into the shortest of 2 lines. From Sat I knew it was either John or Catherine's line. I then sent him to see which line was which. Sat's Bo line was really long so I hoped we'd got lucky and got into Catherine's line. As luck would have it we were in John's line. He was only mildly disappointed. It took about an hour and a half to get the autographs. As apposed to the 6 1/2 hour line I was in at Bristol a couple years ago. He noticed I had worn one of my fire dept shirts and asked if I was a fire -- (he was then unsure what to say) person, woman. I said we both voulunteered with 2 departments. He said that it was great and keep up the good work. I'll post more and pictures hopefully soon but I'm bushed after the 8 hour ride home. DixieDavenport

Just saw that -- Thanks! See ya'll there. My new husband is getting excited about going this year. He's never been to anything like this and I'm sure he'll be blown away by the whole thing. He saw the picture of the patrol car jump last year on Cooter's as I was looking for something else. He said "Hey back up! Did they really do that?" LOL I told him just wait until he saw what would be done this year! -
Tom Wopat will not be at 2007 Dukefest
DixieDavenport replied to DaneyDuke's topic in DukesFest & Other Events
Well, it's great that Tom's show is doing so well and I understand him being obligated by contract. But, it really is disappointing that Luke won't be there. He looked like he had a ball last year! I think he was surprised that the crowd was so glad he was there, but I don't know why he was surprised. He is still my favorite Duke boy but I must say that Bo / John has really gotten better with age!!! We'll sure miss ya this yearTom! Hope to see ya again in 2008! -

The Nashville Palace site says the first act goes on at 6pm and the main act at 9pm. When would you think would be the best time to go? I'd liek to go to both the Opry and Palace but I dont' think money will allow so I figure the palace would be the best bet. -

Well, the months passed and Jed Davenport had moved little Cooter and his wife, Emma, into the newly founded Hazzard. One of the first things George Duke wanted to see built in Hazzard was a church. The Duke family had always been a very religious family. All the new settlers jumped in to help build the church and now that it was complete George was off to Altanta to try to find them all a preacher. Sunday morning found George in on of the churches in Atlanta. He liked the preacher who seems more down to Earth than the congregation. As a matter of fact the congregation was downing the preacher for not dressing better. Once the collection was taken up the preachers wife was noticed greedily putting it away. After church George Duke stayed back letting the others leave out before him. He stopped to talk to the preacher before leaving. "I'm new to these here parts, but preacher I surely liked your service." The preacher blushed just a bit but said, "It wasn't of my doing, only what I was suppose to say. If you'll excuse me," He reached for the bag his wife had put the collection in. "I have to be going to farmer Brown's to pick up a goat. One of my people wasn't here today. His little one has been sick. Seems his wife can't feed it and cow milk isn't working." George noticed the look he was given by his wife. "You wear work clothes on Sunday. Your going to take that money to buy a goat instead of a suit?" The preacher gave his very out spoken wife a 'look' and replied, "This money will do this young family more good that a suit will do me." "They don't even come to hear you speak, yet you'll give them money that's rightfully ours?" she asked. The preacher who was a bit upset at his wife's astions in front of the stranger, replied, "Yes. Mr. McCormick would have been here and so would his wife if the child was able. They read the word and live by it. You'd know that if you'd ever go with me to visit. Your just concerned about that new hat you wanted. Now, off to home. I'll be late." George wasn't sure waht to say at this point but the preacher surely seemed to be a good man. "I'm sorry to hold you up, uh, Mr. ....." "Straight. Rev. Straight." Replyed the preacher. "Well, Rev. Straight I just want to say again how pleased I was with your preachin'. As a matter of fact I was looking for a man like you for our new town, but I see you are attached to your congregation." George Duke said. Rev. Straight smiled weakly, "Well, I am attached to a few families here. They are hard working families that are down on their luck, but most of the congregation judges me by what I wear not the message I deliver." George saw his opening, "Well, about a half dozen families are working to form a town about a days ride from here. The only town building we have built is the church and we'd be pleased to have a good man such as yourself be our preacher whither you are in work clothes or a fancy suit. We'd also welcome any of your congregation to our new town of Hazzard. Think about it. I'll be in town to tomorrow. I've got to get some seed and get it in the ground before it get too late in the season." "I'll surely think about it." said Rev. Straight. *********** NARRATOR: Now, what George Duke and Rev. Straight didn't know was that Rev. Straight's wife's mother was one of the ring leaders in getting the Prohibition Act of 1735 passed for the entire Colony of Georgia. I think I see a problem for George's little side business.

I for one have been to Duke Fest for the past four year with two of my three kids as well as their friends -- all of which were not born when the original shows aired. We all loved Duke Fest! There is something there for everyone whether it is the Music, the stars, or the CARS!!! Which I LOVED!!! I for one appreciate the time, effort and dedication that it takes to have and keep up the beloved muscle cars!! I look forward to Duke Fest 2007 and spending some time once again in Hazzard County! Email from James
DixieDavenport replied to daisydukesnumber1fan's topic in James Best / Rosco P. Coltrane
That was Great. If you haven't met James Best you are in for a treat! Four years ago in Sperryville, VA at the Dukes Fest I was in line for autographs and his line was the longest! I didnt' get to met him that year but let someone else get the autograph for me. The thing that impressed me was this: I saw him going to his car to get a jacket away from the crowd (Where he thought no one was watching). It had rained and the grass was slick and he was walking with care and held onto the car at one point. (I was thinking how lucky we were to be there and to get to see him.) Well a bit later Ben's singer of the Garage Band said as he was walking by, "Look there's Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane!" He RAN up on stage, grabbed her in a hug and gave her a kiss on the cheek, then went right back into character as Rosco! It takes a true professional to put aside his shall we say 'age' and go right back into character because we were watching! I have been a James Best fan since Hooper though Luke is my favorite. The next year at Bristol I did get to met him. DixieDavenport PS I like your Daisy pictures. At Duke Fest this year she was really cool -- she was taking pictures of the crowd taking her picture as well as Tom filming it on two cameras while John was at the mic so I figured the second was his. -
Dukesrule2000, Yeah I know that Tom has other interests which is great! But after some of the DVD's came out with Tom not with John and Catherine I've heard that he was trying to distance himself from Dukes and things like that, but I've kept an open mind and was rewarded with the Tom I believed him to be. You know how people are ususally if they can't say something bad they dont' say anything good! DixieDavenport
