Having read all the thoughts here, I'd definately like to see LEE-1 restored. I'm kinda of the opinion that if it can be done...it should be done. It would say something for the enduring quality of all things Duke. Not to mention, that the car would probably become the most holy artifact in the Dukes fandom, if it ain't already. Brian

There was a black Charger in "The Fast and the Furious" movie, which didn't appear until towards the end...only to be smashed pretty bad. (Broke my heart to see it, too.) Another fine black Charger is in the old movie "Bullit". The movie itself isn't that hot, but it's worth renting for the chase scene. I tend to fast forward to the chase and skip the rest of the flick. If I recall correctly, the Charger ends up being incinerated by crashing into some gas pumps. And there was also a black Charger in the original "Cannonball" movie. (which had no affiliation with the later "Cannonball Run." ) This Charger also suffers ill fortune, by careening over the edge of an incomplete freeway. Ya know, upon reflection....it's a damn good thing the Dukes painted the General orange, given the track record for black Chargers. Brian

For anybody interested, there's pics of the modern-day Charger somewhere in the Movie threads...I think it's "Cars we'd like to see on the big screen." Maxim put a General's uniform on one of 'em, and I still haven't recovered. Heh!

General, I agree with your strategy! Smash up the new cars and leave the classics intact! Of course, today's rice burners just kinda shatter on impact. Take one on a jump, and the landing would be like throwing a light bulb off of a roof. There'd be a small popping sound and fragments everywhere.

Man, I cannot picture a 4-door General Lee....but I know somebody will slap an "01" on one of these and go for it.

I wouldn't jump it over a creek, though....

Heh! Maybe that's the "beyond" in the "beyond restoration" report I'd heard of, years ago. I think the majority of any General's value is in its recognition, though. With the condition Lee 1 is in, only the astute and well-studied Dukes fan is going to make the connections. But how much would a "restored" Lee 1 be worth, in running condition? The grandaddy of 'em all? It would be a monumental project, but then again, it's a monumental car. I'd heard tell of the last General produced for WB, being worth an incredible amount of money. (six-digit range.) And I don't even think it was ever used in a show. On that basis, I'd have to venture that LEE 1, restored to glory, would be worth at least as much - or more. Which would make that ebay price tag look like nothing, if they could affordably accomplish the job. The massive restoration effort would be a story in itself, too.

Then tell him when he grows up, he's not getting a General Lee.

It would be cool to see the car restored, but it's an interesting question whether it's worth more "as is", or returned to it's original glory. Far as I recall - and I'm just repeating the lore as I'd heard it, back in the day - the purchasers of Lee 1 did not intend to restore it. I wonder if they will ever change their minds?

That's a valid idea as well. But last I heard, John wasn't enthused about this movie.
