"The Hazzard Project"

Recommended Posts

Love the idea. Any chance that the next generation of the other cousins could show up too? Jebb over in Placid, Judd might have stayed in contact with Luke (might have helped Luke get into the pro-boxing since he was a pro already), even Coy and Vance might have had kids. There is always room at the Duke table. :D

Most definitely! I want to focus on the generations as the show progresses. I have plans for the other Dukes, and some interesting stories.

Not to rain on anyone's parade here.I think it's cool you are trying to keep the Dukes legacy alive.I can still see the one major problem. If anything would ever come of this project and it would become a movie or TV series.I've mentioned this in previous discussions of re-booting the show as a series or a movie. What is to become of the General Lee? You can't change it to another car.Sorry I ain't buying that and I don't think most of us will.It has to be a 1969 Charger period end of discussion. So where are you going to get cars if this thing would ever take off? Don't even think about deleting it altogether that is not an option either.A new Dukes will not go without General Lee. I would not want it relegated to a emergency backup status either cause I've heard that idea as well. General Lee has to be as integral to the show as in the original. Then you have the Anti Confederate Flag thing now.I've heard rumors that any future General Lee models or die casts are going to be sold MINUS the flag.Yeah like anyone is going to buy those.NOT!!

I was wondering when someone was going to bring up the pink elephant (or maybe red-orange) in the room. this is something that me and the agent team was talking about. Obviously, the star was the General Lee, and I can assure you....there will never be another car named General Lee. But to continue the story, you must understand that a 69 Dodge Charger R/T can not survive in today's world, rebel flag or not. I envision amazing car chases and wild driving, but no jumping. The focus is the characters. I think the original show died because of poor writing.....and that was with the General jumping over barns and silos. In the end, I think I will have done the General Lee proud. I will post the part of the treatment I omitted from this post that I sent in to my agent concerning the General Lee, but I will warn you now; The original General Lee will not be the primary vehicle/hero car in this series. It will be absent, but I promise it makes an incredible comeback. I love your feedback and honesty.

This was part of the proposal and outline I submitted to my agent. I wanted to post this at a later time, but I think everyone is curious.:fryingpan:

And last but not least, the true star of the original show……The General Lee. The amazing 1969 Dodge Charger R/T that made Hazzard famous with its amazing antics and stunts and last minute saves will be immortalized in the show’s canon. While we will not see the General Lee in action at the beginning, it will be mentioned and referenced several times, as well as a few glimpses in the barn with it’s tarp covering it, only exposing a front hood and grill that looks to be well polished and maintained. No rust or dust for this veteran. There will be references made to the boys (new Duke kids) growing up learning how to drive using the General Lee as practice. It will also be mentioned that when Caleb is visiting, he, Jesse and Lily and Brad will hop in the General Lee with their parent’s permission (usually after much pleading and begging) and go driving through Hazzard. When Bo left, he didn’t take the General Lee with him since he felt that the General’s place was in Hazzard. Luke never really took the car out, especially after Uncle Jessie’s death. The few times when Bo and Luke are able to get along during family events and get-togethers, they take the General out with Daisy and Enos usually racing right behind them in his police cruiser (one of the newer dodge chargers). The town knows the car well, and will always have a story to tell of one of the Dukes’ exploits in the General Lee.

But all good things must end, right? Due to an accident that was beyond the boys (from here on out, the reference made as “Duke Boys†or “Boys†will be of Caleb and Jesse) control, the General Lee meets an unfortunate end, one that neither Brad, Cooter or anyone else will be able to salvage…..at least not right away. The accident will have Cooter even saying “In all my years, I have never seen the General in a condition so bad that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to repair.†Due to the circumstances, and the guilt, the boys set about getting a little revenge for the General Lee, and to end the dangerous activities of a local bully who styles himself as the king of Hazzard’s race scene. During the pilot, we will see Caleb beat several racers in the General Lee, before its accident. In these races, we all see what the General is made of and what it is famous for: Flat out speed! They literally destroyed the competition and even saw a few wrecks happen, one being a 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 that landed twisted up in a ditch. Caleb soon garners the attention and enmity of the local race ace, whose father used to get beat by Bo and Luke regularly by the same General Lee that was smoking the competition on that night. He challenges Caleb to a dangerous race, thinking Caleb was not familiar to the area. But he did not know that Caleb spent every summer and every family even in Hazzard driving this car and the roads. His father personally showed him plenty of areas he used to race in. But Caleb was forbidden to race by Luke, who has been entrusted with the care of Caleb while he is now living in Hazzard (plot point, I promise to clear up later). But Caleb sneaks out anyway, taking the General with him. Jesse knows what he is up to and waits in the shed where the General is stored and goes with him to “keep him out of troubleâ€. The local bully soon finds out just how good of a driver Caleb is as well as realizing that he did not have the home field advantage he thought he had by challenging Caleb to this course. In the last moments of the race, he uses a dirty trick which causes Caleb to wreck the General. If it wasn’t for the roll cage in the General and its welded doors, the boys would have been either thrown or crushed from the accident. As they crawl out of the wrecked car, the bully sneers and laughs at them, pissing on the General’s remains before driving off. As the boys are in the hospital, Daisy and Enos with their kids, along with Luke all arrive to both scold and comfort the boys. They are relieved they are alright, but are saddened by the loss of the General Lee. Caleb is down right devastated. He knows that the General Lee was his fathers pride and joy. Sometimes, he thinks his dad loves the car more than him. But being raised as Caleb has, he really can’t blame him….Caleb loves the General Lee too, but doesn’t like to admit it to anyone.

While the boys are licking their wounds, they set about trying how to fix the General Lee, but come to the realization that there is nothing they can do to fix it. Finally, they come up with the plan to simply get another car. While looking through several ads and dealers, they see that they cannot afford a new car, and cannot get one financed. In the end, they go to the junk yard where Brad and his grandfather come all the time to grab parts. What they find is a veritable buffet of cars from different generations in Hazzard, including the wrecks from the race days before. The boys finally decide to grab the Challenger that was wrecked, and parts from all the other cars. When all was said and done, a new beast was born. This car is not a jumper. It is a racer, hands down. It has power, it has speed, and it has an aggression almost as fierce as its primary driver. It will be modded, but it will take some time to get use to, as this will be a different car that Caleb will have to learn how to drive. It will be painted a combination of the familiar red/orange color, and black. I doubt there will be a confederate Rebel flag on top, but there will be something on the roof. It will, of course, have the famous “01†on the side doors. And it will simply be called “The Generalâ€. More work will be done into the creation of this car, but I know it will be amazing and people and fans will come to love it……at least that is my hope. Remember, the General Lee is down, but not dead.

What you are suggesting are all the things I don't want to see happen. If you introduce a new car it should NOT bare any resemblance to the original General Lee. If you are going to eliminate any jumping and rely strictly on speed then you may as well stick with the original General Lee just with modernized suspension and a even more beefier engine. You can buy upgrades for a 69 Charger(or any old MOPAR) now that will make it handle near as well with any modern car. A base model Challenger goes for around 30K so cost wise you really aren't saving a bunch. With no wrecks or very minor wrecks you aren't going to be destroying any classic cars to the point of no return so just fix them with replacement parts. They are re-making just about every sheetmetal part for a Charger now. Also with minimal wrecks you wouldn't need a whole mess of 69 Chargers as they did originally.

Hmmm, You've certainly put a lot of thought and work into this King2628. I'm not completely comfortable with parts of it but it does show a lot of promise. After seeing how well the series Dallas has been redone I think it could be pulled off. I suspect that Dallas was redone after getting a lot of input from real Dallas fans. It's just so good I can't imagine that it wasn't. I also suspect that the Dukes reunion shows didn't have a lot of input from fans. If producers of a new Dukes show would get input from long-time fans it could work. Hmmmm, I'm available.

Sorry for being away for so long. first off, lets address the General Lee. Warner Brothers has issued a statement that all future incarnations of the car, in either merchandise or picture, will no longer carry the confederate flag on top of the car. With that being said, your idea of a dukes show with the classic car just cannot happen. I am sure that if the show got off the ground, things could happen that would allow the good ol General to return as it should, but it would be just too expensive to keep fixing old out of production classic muscle cars.

As for any other scripting and writing, I have had to place a few things on hold. Me and my wife have adopted a wonderful child and are finishing the final court processes. Between work, adoption and taking care of other things, I've sorely neglected my passion. But I am coming back, and really going to put my strongest effort forward.

Congratulations on the wonderful addition to your family!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! It's the biggest joy I've ever experienced since my wedding day....and night, if we are being honest. lol. I have gone ahead and started the process of having my first book published. While it is not Dukes of Hazzard related, I do hope to use this project as a launch pad for all my other projects, including This one. I'f you're interested, come on over and check it out at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kingdom-of-Asphalt/499103733486786?ref=hl

I started a kickstarter project to help get it launched, also. If you feel inclined, give it a look as well. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/324024490/kingdom-of-asphalt-book-series?ref=email

I have such big plans for all of my work, that I feel as if my head will explode. But I know I will accomplish my goals. I just believe that Dukes of Hazzard can be reborn, and the characters we love will return well written and as powerful as ever.

You must not have heard but there was such an outcry by the fans to that announcement on the Internet and social media that WB recanted that statement saying it was "inaccurate". So my argument still holds water. You think it's any cheaper to fix a newer Challenger?? Think again. As I said with suspension upgrades and engine upgrades a 69 Charger will perform as well or maybe better than a new Challenger. By eliminating jumps you have NO reason NOT to use the original car Confederate Flag intact.Cost will be just as much to fix the old as it would the new or very close.Your plan is not to total any cars so as I said sheet metal is as easy to fix as plastic probably easier. Congrats on the new baby by the way.
