But are the doors welded shut? Those are really small windows and even Bo's not that skinny.

The next generation Part II

That night, Lily decided to see if she could shuck and jive some information out of her dad. Enos: (reading the paper) Hey there. You get the information you needed? Lily: Sure did, although I found out something else though. Enos: What was that? Lily: Did your dad really run moonshine? Enos puts down the paper and looks at her. Enos: Well, possum on a gumbush. How'd you find out about that? Lily: I was interviewing Mrs. Olivia Hogg and she mentioned it. Enos: She would. Yes, my father ran shine. Nearly everybody did back then. Lily: Well, if everybody ran shine, how'd you become a cop? Enos: <sighs> I was just different I guess. I wanted a job that was legal, but I wasn't all that smart. All I was good at was driving and shooting, so I figured being a cop was my best bet at an honest living. Lily: Oh. But I thought people who ran shine didn't like cops. Enos: Well, they don't. Lily: Did Grandad not like it when you became one then? Enos: He sure didn't. Kicked me out of the house and told me never to come back. Lily: This house? Enos: This house. With that, Enos gives off his classic laugh. Enos: You know, he'd be rolling over in his grave if he knew I was living here now. Lily: And you're the sherriff. Enos laughed even harder, which made Lily laugh too. The next day, she informed Cherry of what happened. Cherry: So your dad got kicked out of the house for becoming a cop? Lily: That's what he says. And Dad never lies. Cherry: Well that's funny then. Lily: What is? Cherry: If your Grandad...didn't want your dad to become a cop...how'd he get the money to go to school and become one then? Lily: Well...hmmmm... Cherry: Did he get a scholarship? Lily: No...he said he wasn't that smart...maybe a sports one. Cherry: Where'd he go to school? Lily: The police acadamy in Atlanta. Cherry: No, they don't give scholarships for sports. Just grades. Lily: How do you know? Cherry: My cousin Cory Duke looked into going there, but didn't have the money. He wound up getting a football scholarship to Alabama. Lily: Well anyhow, what does it matter? We're trying to figure out how Bo and Luke got caught running shine remember? I don't think my dad had anything to do with it if he was away at the police acadamy at the time. Cherry: True. But remember what you said? About your dad never giving a straight answer? Lily: Yeah? Cherry: You still think he knows something? Lily: He's got to. Cherry: I've got a feeling these two mysteries are connected. Lily: Well okay. But I don't see how. Cherry: It's just a hunch...but what if...? Cherry gives a slight grin, just like her father's. Lily is beginning to recognize the look in Cherry's eye that means she's up to something. Cherry: <snaps her fingers> I got it. Let's go Lil! Lily: Why do I have the feeling that I'm gonna get in trouble? -
Well, seeing as Herbie and the General Lee were both racecars, how about a race between them eh? Jam thinks the General would leave Herbie in the dust, and frankly, I agree. Would make an interesting fan fic though. Hmmmmm.

Back at the hospital, Luke is awake enough to tell the other Dukes to go on home. Luke: Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Just go on home and let me know when you find Kate. Bo: Well, we'll go home if you promise to rest and not worry about her. Luke: What? Do you not like her? Bo: Now I didn't say that. I just don't want you to worry. Luke: Worry about what? Bo: About a girl you just met. We'll let you know when we find her. You just rest up. Luke: Why do I get the impression you're not telling me something? Bo bit his lip. On one hand, Luke had the right to know, but on the other hand, Luke didn't need to be upset. Meanwhile, Layla and Cletus spot the red-orange chevy and start going after it. Kate: Now what? Mark: I don't know. You're the one who wanted to go back through Hazzard. Kate: I didn't think they'd recognize us in a different car! Chris: Kate honey, you'd better stop thinking and start driving! Kate puts the pedal to the floor as Cletus radios for back-up. Cue Kitty

<Back to present> Now that they had a name, it was Cherry's turn. With a little browsing through the phone book, she was able to locate Agent Andrew Roach. Cherry: I didn't think I'd find him in the cemetery. Lily: Well, so much for that. Cherry: Not quite. I was able to get this from the library. She holds up a news clipping. Lily: An obituary? Cherry: It says he has kin here in Hazzard. We just gotta find them and interview them. Lily: Do you think they'll talk to us? Cherry: Well you are doing a report right? Lily: Oh yeah...what's the name here? Cherry: I think you'll have your best luck with this one. Mrs. Olivia Roach Hogg. Lily: Uh oh. You don't think she's married to that Hughie guy do ya? Cherry: No. It says her husband's name is Cletus. Lily: <laughs> Oh that'll be easy! Later, Lily catches up to Cliff and asks to interview his mother. Cliff: Sure, but why'd you want to interview her? Lily: It's really about Agent Roach, her dad. Cliff: Oh Grandpa. Yeah, he died two years ago. Mom was real upset. Lily: Think she'll be up to talking about him? Cliff: (quietly) Oh she'll talk. You just might have trouble getting her to shut up. Lily went over the Cliff's house after school and sat in the parlor with his mother. She was a dainty and proper woman, and her son wasn't kidding about her gift of gab. Afterwards, Lily met up with Cherry at the farm again. Cherry: So what'd you find out? Lily: <rubbing her ears> Way too much. That woman can talk! Cherry: Anything good? Lily: Oh yeah, she mentioned that her father was really proud when he caught the Duke boys. He had been chasing them for about five years but couldn't catch them. Cherry: Five years? But they would've only been... Lily: They start running shine at an early age. And did you know my grandfather ran shine too? Cherry: Of course he did. All the Dukes did. Lily: I mean on the other side. Cherry: <wide-eyed> Really? Lily: Yeah. Cherry: You don't think your dad...? Lily: I think enough to wonder. -

<FLASHBACK: November 22, 1975> Luke: He's gaining on us Bo. Bo: You know Luke, I think we're gonna get caught. Luke: I know. But let's try to prolong it anyway. Bo: Uncle Jesse ain't gonna like this. Luke: None of us are, but it's the only way. Bo: Yeah I know. The agents car pulls up and runs them off the road. Bo: Uncle Jesse isn't gonna like what he did to Black Tillie. Luke: Uncle Jesse isn't gonna like what he's about to do to us. Roach: All right boys. Get out. Bo and Luke get out of the car as Agent Andy Roach opens the trunk and sees 10 gallons of shine. -

The next day, Lily actually goes to the sherriff's office after school, much to her Dad's surprise. Enos: You're not in trouble are ya? Lily: Oh no, I just wanted to see if I could look at something. Enos: (raising an eyebrow) What kind of something? Lily: I'm doing a report on what sort of thing the police did around here thrity years ago. Enos: Oh. Well, go on in and see if Emery will let you look at any of the record. Lily: Thank you Daddy! She gives him a peck on the cheek and goes over to the record office. Enos: She's up to something. Emery is perfectly willing to let Lily browse through the records. She finds what she's looking for, copies down the information, and puts the file back. Then she runs over to the Duke farm to tell Cherry. Cherry: Did ya get it? Lily: Yep. You know, Bo and Luke have a whole drawer of files down there? It took me forever to find the right one. Cherry: Well? Lily: Nothing. It just says they were caught by an Agent Roach on November 22, 1975. Cherry: Well, it does tell us something then. Lily: What? Cherry: Who it was that caught them and when. -
Bo is back in Luke's room, holding his hand a praying when he hears a soft noise. Luke: <groans> Wha???? Bo: LUKE! Luke wake up! Oh boy am I glad to see you! Luke: What in tarnation...? Bo: Now you just take it easy Luke. Somethin' blew up in the General Lee while you were in it. Luke: The General? Bo: Don't worry about the General. Cooter's working on him right now. Luke: Is Kate all right? Bo was afraid Kate's name would turn up. Bo: She wasn't there Luke. She uh...left before it happened. Luke: Where is she? Bo: Well I don't know. She left with those two fellas who were looking for her at the Boar's Nest. Luke: I need to see her. Bo: You need to rest. Bo leaves and lets Uncle Jesse and Daisy see Luke. They pretty much tell him the same thing when he asks about Kate. Daisy adds a little more. Daisy: Don't you worry about her none Luke. We're actually trying to find her. Luke: Good. I really want to see her again. Daisy: Oh Luke. Daisy, having hung around Enos too long, didn't want to lie. But she wasn't ready to tell Luke the whole truth either. Meanwhile, back at the police station. Rosco: Enos? Have you seen Flash? Enos: She's taking a nap under your desk. Rosco: Oh there you are little velvet ears. It's time for your lunchtime snack. Enos: (under his breath) She gets more snacks than I do. Rosco: I heard that you dipstick! Enos: Hey sherriff! There's something coming over the APB! Rosco: Ooooh Oooh! Read it! Enos: All points bulliten. Stolen car sighted on highway 75 heading north. Rosco: Oh goody! We got 'em now! Enos: It's not that green one we were chasing though. It's a red-orange 1980 Chevy Caprice Classic. Rosco: Well radio the others anyway. Enos: Sure sherriff. Enos gets on the CB to inform the other deputies of the stolen car, not knowing that it's the same people they had chased earlier. CUE: JULIEDUKE

That evening, Lily decides to investigate further. Daisy: Sorry honey. They never told me either. I'm guessing it's something they'll take to the grave. Lily: But why? Daisy: I can only guess. I think they told Uncle Jesse before he died, but that'd be the only time they ever told anyone. Enos: (coming in) Told who what? Lily: I was just wondering how Bo and Luke got on probation. Enos: (picking up a lemon) They got caught running shine. Lily: I know that. How'd they get caught though? Enos: By the police. Enos walks out of the kitchen, sucking on a lemon. Lily rolls her eyes. The next day, Lily is once again at the Duke farm after school. Lily: No luck. They never told my mom either. Cherry: A mystery. What about your dad? Lily: He said they got caught by the police. Cherry: <laughs> A typical sherriff answer. Lily: <grinning> No...a typical Dad answer! That's it! Cherry: What is? Lily: Whenever Dad doesn't give a straight answer, it usually means he's hiding something because he never lies. Therefore... Cherry: He probably knows something! Lily: But he's not just gonna come out an say it either. He's really good at that. Cherry: But why is it such a secret? Lily: I dunno. I really don't know. -
What episode is it that Bo and Luke were naked?
Jamanda replied to DukesFan24's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Episodes
They go skinny dipping a lot, but in "Ghost of the General Lee" they run around without their clothes after thier car is stolen. Hence why no one sees them and they think they're dead. Also, in "Deputy Dukes," they chase two girls who ran off with their clothes and money after tricking them into skinny dipping. Rosco catches them and gives them a number of charges including "indecent exposure." Later, they steal a car from the girls who tricked them. -

Lily was hanging out with Cherry at the Duke farm after school on a breezy October day. Lucas was inside watching Daisy Mae, or rather chasing her out of various corners of the house. Tommy was pestering Jill with questions. Tommy: Did Uncle Bo really jump over a whole line of motorcycles? Jill: It was a line of barrels ON a motorcycle. Tommy: Wow! Cherry: Does he ever stop? Lily: Nope. We keep hoping he'll outgrow it but... Tommy: And did he really get in a fight in a garage with an ugly dude an' get covered in grease? Jill: Yes he did. Amy can tell you more about that as the ugly dude was one of her old boyfriends. Amy: (from another room) TURK WAS NEVER A BOYFRIEND! Jill: <whispers to Tommy> He was too. Amy: I HEARD THAT! Cherry and Lily grab their lemonade to sit outside just as Tommy goes off again. Tommy: An' was he and Luke really on probation? Jill: Yes dear, and they still are. Tommy: What's probation? Cherry and Lily sit out by the tree with their lemonade. As usual, Cherry climbs up and sits on a branch as Lily sits under her. Lily: How did your dad get on probation? Cherry: He got caught running moonshine. Then Great-Uncle Jesse made a treaty with the government that if he stopped making whiskey, they'd get off on probation. Lily: Oh. How'd they get caught? Cherry: You know...they never did tell us. Everytime we ask, they change the subject. Lily: Ooooh. Family secret? Cherry: Hey, I bet your Mom knows. Ask her. Lily: I should. -

Balladeer: So this is what's going on, in case ya'll are as lost as I am. Luke met this pretty lady named Kate at the Boar's Nest...and that was it. After falling for her like a ton of bricks, he and Kate went off on a romantic rendezvous. Meanwhile, a couple of goons are asking about Kate at the Boar's Nest and Daisy sent Bo to find Luke and his girlfriend. <Flashback Bo: Luke! Where are you!?> Balladeer: Bo came back to the Boar's Nest and it finally dawned on him where Luke was at and he told the goons where to find Kate. The two men drove off in a green chevy and Bo followed them out there later in Daisy's Jeep, as Luke had the General. But once Bo got out there, the goons and Kate were gone and Luke is nowhere to be found. <Flashback of explosion> Balladeer: Bo only found Luke when something exploded in the General Lee. Deputies Cletus and Layla arrived and helped Bo take Luke to the hospital while Rosco and Enos chased a green chevy that's speeding away. At the hospital, Luke is stable, but unconscious, and Daisy gets off the phone with Enos with news about the crooks. Bo: That dang dipstick lost them. Daisy: He did what he could. At least we know that the car belonged to Kate. Bo: That green chevy. Was it the same car those two guys drove? Daisy: What guys? Bo: The one's looking for Kate. Daisy: Yeah it was! They drove off in it when you told them where to find them. Bo: It's all my fault! I shouldn't have... Daisy: It is NOT your fault. How were you supposed to know they were up to no good? Bo: It must've been them that put that dynamite back there. Daisy: How do you know it wasn't already there? You two use dynamite all the time. Bo: Because I distinctly remember helping Luke clean out the General yesterday. He said he didn't want any women to see dynamite back there, which means he wouldn't have gotten any more either. Daisy: So someone else had to put it there. Bo: But who? The girl? Or one of those two hoods? Meanwhile, Kate and her friends traded the car for something different in Choctaw county. Mark: We'll take it. And this time, I'm driving. Kate: Excuse me. It's my car. Chris: Kate honey, no offense, but you drive like my grandmother. Kate: Well hopefully we're done with the business and we won't need to go any faster. After more arguing, Mark lets Kate drive the faded red-orange 1980 Chevy Caprice Classic. Chris: Man, this thing is a boat. Mark: Yeah it's ugly, but there's plenty of room for merchandise. Kate: Don't go doggin' on my car. Let's go. They take off down the road. The sign behind them reads... Ace's Used Car Lot Balladeer: Now in case ya'll forgot, Ace used to have his car lot in Hazzard, until he had a little run in with the Duke boys and a Rolls Royce. Now he runs he crooked business in Choctaw county, and it's still as crooked as ever. Take the car Miss Kate just bought. It was freshly stolen from a couple of young college students from Atlanta...and of course, ol' Ace didn't bother changing the liscense plate.

We found out that Enos called the Sherriff by his first name in "Swamp Molly" when he asks him about one of the codes. Rosco: I want you to head over to zebra sector. Enos: Is that Mill Pond Rosco? Rosco: ENOS! Will you please use the military code!? I think there was another episode where he calls him Rosco, but forgot which one it was.

Uncle Jesse, Bo, Daisy, and Layla are still waiting at the hospital. The doctor informed them that Luke was stabalized, but it would still be a while before they could expect him to wake up. Layla was in the room with Luke when the phone rang. Daisy took it. Daisy: Hello?...Oh Enos, did you catch them?...WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY GOT AWAY!?...Oh you did...So who does the car belong to?...Katherine McCormick?...You're sure it's the same girl?...Positive?...Yes Enos, I know you wouldn't lie, but I'd sure hate to tell Luke that...what?...She is?...Do you have proof of that?...Oh you don't...Oh my...Well Luke isn't awake yet anyway so...No, he's stabalized...right...okay...I'll let them know...bye. Daisy hangs up the phone. Bo: (anxious) Well? Daisy: That car they were chasing belongs to that girl, Kate. And she's been indicted before. Bo: For what? Daisy: Different things. But in all three cases, there wasn't enough evidence to convict her. And there really isn't any evidence to show she was involved in this either. Bo: SHE WAS FLEEING FROM THE SCENE OF THE CRIME!!! Daisy: Hard evidence Bo. We can't prove that she was the one who planted that dynamite in the back of the General. Bo: Yeah but still...Wait a minute...It was dynamite? Daisy: Yeah, they found the casing in the back of the General Lee. Why? Bo stands still with an inquisitive look on his face as if he's trying to figure something out. Balladeer: I sure hope Bo can figure this out on his own. I don't think Luke'll be much help. END PART I

The next day, Lily was rubbing her backside again at school. She was trying to find Louie to explain that she was grounded again. Oh but her dad had been mad. Lily turned the corner and saw Louie talking to a blond girl, whom she recognized as Regina Hogg. "So what happened?" Regina was asking. "I told ya," said Louie. "The Sherriff was practically threatened me. Said if I ever touched his daughter again that he'd make sure I got sent to a military school." "But the sherriff can't do that right?" "Nah," said Louie. "My ol' man's been giving me that line for years, course the sherriff had it out with him too." "You didn't do anything with her right?" "No," said Louie, holding his fingers and inch apart. "I was this close when the cop showed up." "Good," said Regina. "You told me you wouldn't get too involved with this girl." "Well I gotta get involved," said Louie. "You gotta get their hopes up before you come back and crush 'em." Lily gasped. "I know," said Regina, fluffing his hair. "I'll just be glad when you're done dealing with her and we can get back together." Lily snapped and stormed right up to them. Without saying a word, she drew back and... POW! Louie was on the ground, squealing like a stuck pig. "YOU TWO-TIMING, DOUBLE-CROSSING, DECEITFUL PILE OF COW DUNG!" she yelled, along with some other words not fitting to be written down. Unfortunatly, the principal was right there and Lily was sitting in his office in two-seconds flat. Even more unfortunate was that her mother wasn't home. "They're calling your father," said the secretary. Lily groaned. She was REALLY in for it now. Enos came in and was silent as the principal explained what happened. Lily was suspended for three days. "All right," said Enos. "I'll take her now." Lily followed her father outside to his police car with half the school watching. It wasn't until they were inside that he said anything to her. "It was that boy wasn't it?" Lily nodded. "He was playing me Dad," she wimpered. "He was using me to get back at me." Enos nodded and started the car. "You can say it," Lily said. "Say what?" "I told ya so." "You said it," said Enos. "I didn't. But I'm sure glad it was you and not me." "Why?" "I would've shot him," said Enos. Lily could've sworn she saw a slight grin on his face. "Did you hit him good?" "He's gonna have a black eye." "Good," said Enos. "But I got suspended." "I'll admit," he said. "It wasn't too smart to hit him right there in front of teachers...should wait 'til school's over...then hit him." "You ever hit anybody Dad?" "You have no idea." Lily smiled and her father put his arm around her as they drove home. -

<Warning: Rated PG-13> Cletus was on night patrol. He didn't care for it much as it usually involved breaking up make-out sessions in parked cars, which is what he saw going on now. He pulled up and rapped on the window. "All right," he said. "Get on out of there." He opened the door and wasn't surprised at all to see Louie stumble out of the car and zipping up his pants. He was surprised to see the girl, who was frantically trying to cover herself. "Buzzards on a buzzsaw!" he gasped. He had a hold of Louie and ordered Lily to get in the police car. Lily managed to do so while getting her shirt back on. "You get home now son," Cletus told Louie. Louie jumped in his car and drove off. "Young lady," said Cletus, as he got in the car. "You are in a peck of trouble." Lily wimpered. "We didn't do anything," she said in a small voice. "But you were about to," said Cletus, picking up the CB. "I hate to do this to ya but..." Lily sank down in the backseat. "Deputy Hogg calling Sherriff Strate...Come in Sherriff." "What is it Cletus?" "Are you driving?" "Yes...Why?" "You might want to pull over." There was a pause. "All right...what is it now?" "I just apprehended a couple of kids parking." "Yeah...so?" Cletus held back the CB. "One of them was your daughter." Lily covered her ears as the yelling came over the other end. "WHAAAAT???!!! WHO IN THE NAME OF SAM HILL DID YOU CATCH WITH MY DAUGHTER!!!?????" "Louie sir," said Cletus. "I sent him home." "Where's Lily?" "In here with me." "Take her home...I'll take care of the boy." "Yes sir." Cletus hung up the CB as Lily uncovered her ears. "I take that back," said Cletus. "You ain't in trouble, you're dead where you stand. Then again, I wouldn't wanna be Louie right now." Lily wimpered as the car took her home. -

Lily stayed on good behavior for the next two weeks, if only to see if Louie's plan would work. She hang out with Cherry, but still didn't listen when they tried to warn her. "You sure you're not hanging around with Louie too much?" she asked. "We just talk in class," said Lily. "I don't intend to go to any more of his parties." "Well that's good," said Cherry. But Lily didn't say that she wasn't going to see Louie elsewhere. After the two weeks, she waited a couple of days, and then asked if she could go to the movies with some girls. "They'll come pick me up," she said. "You can even meet them first if you want." "Good," said her father. The three girls were friends of Louie's from Choctaw county and passed the parent inspection. They agreed that Lily would be back at a decent hour and took her to the movies, where Louie met up with them. "Louie," said Lily. "You're brilliant. He doesn't suspect a thing." "Come on," said Louie. "Let's sit in the back." Louie and Lily didn't see much of the movie. Afterwards, he took her out to a remote area. -

Now Lily didn't just get grounded for going to that party. Her parents believed in old fashioned discipline, which meant she had some quality time out in the woodshed with her father and a switch. But she didn't tell anyone else about that when she went back to school. "Grounded?" Louie asked. "Yep," said Lily. "What about you?" "Oh I just had to clean up," he said. "My dad's a pushover." "Mine's not," she said. "Sometimes I wish he'd at least get mad, but he just gives me that disappointed look that makes me fell guilty." "You don't fall for it do ya?" Louie asked. "Cuz you know, that's just something they do so you stay under their thumb." "Right," said Lily, not sure what to believe. "Right." "So how long you grounded for?" "Two weeks." "Well," said Louie. "Once those two weeks are up, maybe we can do a little something different...something the ol' man won't be able to catch." "Like what?" "You'll see." -
Rosco and Enos drive up just as Cletus and Bo are putting Luke into Cletus's car. Cletus: Sherriff, I gotta take Luke to the hospital. Rosco: What happened? Cletus: I don't know, but did you seen a green chevy? Enos: Yeah, we passed one on the way here. Cletus: Ya'll better go after it. I think they're the one's that did this to Luke. Rosco: Well get right on it. Rosco and Enos take off in the direction the chevy went as Cletus and Bo take Luke to the hospital. Bo drove the car so Cletus could administer CPR, as Cletus had a little more training with it than Bo. Meanwhile, those crooks were just about to calm down when two patrol cars come after them again. Mark: Dang it Chris! I told you we should've switched cars. Kate: Well lose them like you lost the last one. I don't intend to go to jail. Chris: I'm working on it. Cletus and Bo get Luke to the hospital and Bo calls Uncle Jesse and Daisy. Bo: (into phone) I'm telling you, I was out looking for Luke when there was a big explosion...something blew up in the General Lee and I found Luke in the back seat...I think that girl had something to do with it...I think he'll be okay...he was breathing and had a pulse when we got him here... Balladeer: I think Luke needs to pick out better girlfriends, don't you?

Daisy was about to throw a fit when she saw them. "What happened?" she asked. "Don't worry," said Enos. "She's just passed out from drinking." "And I'm not supposed to worry about that?" "It could've been worse," said Enos. "I'm gonna put her to bed." "What about...?" "We'll think about that tomorrow," said Enos. Lily woke up the next morning with a splitting headache. Remembering the events of the night before, she groaned. "Oh I am so dead." "You're not that lucky," said her dad. Lily jumped to see him sitting at the foot of her bed. His head almost touched the ceiling. "Drink this," he said, handing her something hot. Lily took it and sipped it. It tasted terrible. "Aw yuck," she spat. "I wouldn't complain if I were you," Enos said. "Drink it." Lily drank the strong coffee as her dad watched her. He didn't look angry. Just sad. "You lied to us Lily," he said finally. "I know," she said. "But I didn't think you'd let me go." "Oh you're right about that," he said. "I wouldn't have." "You never let me do anything." "Because I can't trust you," said her dad. "Now you're grounded for two weeks." "Two weeks!" "Do you want to make it three?" "Okay," said Lily. "Now get up," he said, climbing down. "You've got chores to do." Lily didn't speak to her dad the rest of the day as she painted the house, cleaned the kitchen, and looked after Tommy. "You've been bad," said Tommy. "Oh shut up," said Lily. "Were you really drunk?" "Do you want me to lock you in the outhouse?" "I'll shut up now." "Good idea." -

<Warning: PG-13 for adult situations> Louie's house was a spledid affair and his parents were gone. Guys were sitting around playing guitars and banjos. Girls were dancing to the music in short skirts and tank tops. And Lily didn't know any of them. "You'll fit right in," said Louie, handing her a glass. "Here. Try this." "Water?" asked Lily. "Oh that ain't water," said Louie. "Just take a small sip." "Woah," Lily coughed as she tasted it. "That's strong! What is it?" "Whiskey," said Louie. "Moonshine whiskey. Great stuff." "Isn't it illegal?" "What?" asked Louie. "You gonna squeal to your daddy?" "No," said Lily, frowning. "He'd kill me if he knew I was here." Louie took her around and introduced her to the others. Most of them were from other counties and she didn't remember any of their names. The whiskey was already getting to her head. "Hey Lily," said Louie. "How 'bout we go upstairs?" "Sure," said Lily. "What's upstairs?" "My room," he said, leaning closer to her. Suddenly, one of the other kids burst into the room. "THE COPS ARE COMING!" he shouted. "EVERYBODY OUT!" Everyone yelled and ran out of the house through various methods, the front door, back door, front windows, wherever they could. Louie was also running, but a deputy grabbed his collar. "Another shindig eh Louie?" asked Cletus. "Good thing your dad told us to stop by. He gave us permission to hold you too until he got home." The other kids had jumped in thier cars and sped off, but the law was ahead of them. Enos just radioed the other counties with the makes, models, and liscense numbers to round them up. Then he looked over the rest of the house. "Looks like they're all gone," he called out to Cletus. "You go on and take him." "Right Sherriff," said Cletus. "Come on Louie." Once they left Enos went over to the couch, where a girl had passed out. He tenderly picked up his daughter and carried her out. -

After Math class, Louie caught up with Lily in the hallway. "Hey," he said. "You got any plans this weekend?" "No," she said. "Why?" "Well," he said. "I was wondering if you'd like to come to a little get-together at my house Friday night?" "I dunno," said Lily. "I'd have to ask." "I sure hope you can come," said Louie. "See ya later." Lily had to think carefully. Her dad didn't like parties as he'd made plenty of arrests for underage drinking and drug use among other things. "Hey Mom," she said when she got home. "Is it okay if I go out with some friends tomorrow night?" "You know the drill," said her mother. "As long your dad knows about it, where it is, the phone number, and that you're home by midnight." Lily tried not to grumble out loud. She really didn't want to tell her dad. "Oh," she said. "I was just gonna go to the movies with Cherry and some other girls." "You know the drill," said Daisy. "Oh I'll be home on time," said Lily. The next evening, Lily left the house in the direction of the Duke farm, but then a convertible pulled up. "Well hey there," said Louie. "Need a ride?" "Cute and punctual," said Lily, getting in the car. -

The rest of the week was a little better for Lily. Louie was perfectly friendly with her, although she kept getting annoyed whenever T.J., Jethro, and Cherry would try to warn her about him. "I can take care of myself," she kept saying. "Don't say we didn't warn you," Cherry said. T.J. was tempted to tell the sherriff about Louie, but his dad beat him to it. "Bad character eh?" Enos asked. "He's ol' Honest John's kid," said Cooter. "What do you think?" "I'll keep an eye on Lily," said Enos. "She's not gonna like it though." "Ya'll two don't get along?" "We just don't...connect," Enos said. "She's trying to be own person and I'm having trouble letting her...She's so much like Daisy." "Well you're the one who married a Duke," said Cooter. "I know," said Enos. "Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing." "Course you did," said Cooter. "You wouldn't have lasted much longer if you didn't." "I know," said Enos. "I know."
