  1. Game Announcer 1: "Touchdown Beavers! The Beavers are still trailing the Cougars with a score of 42-24 with 8 minutes on the clock in the 4th quarter." Game Announcer 2: "It seems the Cougars were not able to gain as much ground on that last series of plays which made it easier for the Beavers to score." Game Announcer 1: "I think you're right there. Since the Hazzard Coach took Luke Duke out the team has struggled to advance up the field. I for see that young man being a valuable player for the Cougars." On the Hazzard side line the Coach searches his players. "Duke. Get back in there!" Luke runs past putting his helmet back on, "Yes, sir!" Game Announcer 2 "It seems the Hazzard Coach agrees with you. Look there goes #68. Yes, fokes, Luke Duke is going back into the game!" Cooter and Mark see Luke approach. "Alright! Luke's coming back in!" shouts Cooter. "Let's move this ball. We got Luke back and that gorilla is still out!" Luke hears Cooter. "You got that right. They expect me to run it, I'm handing off to Mark." The ball snaps, Luke hands off to Mark and breaks to the left side of the field as Mark heads back and down the right side of the field. The Beavers are certain Luke has the ball. Luke lets them follow him all the way to the in field as Mark scored another touchdown for the Cougars unopposed! Game Announcer 1: "Touchdown Cougars! 48 - 24 is now the score!" shouts the announcer who is obviously enjoying the game. When the Cougars offense lines back up Luke says, "Same play. This time I'm carrying the ball but Mark make it look like you have the ball." Cooter snaps the ball and charges the oncoming players to buy Luke and Mark some time. Luke acts like he has handed the ball to Mark and the separate. The Beavers all head towards Mark who is tackled at the 10 yard line as Luke crosses into the infield! Game Announcer 1: "Touchdown Cougars! With only 3 minutes left on the clock the score is now 54 - 24!" Game Announcer 2: "Man, the Cougars have scored twice in 5 minutes!" The Beavers are only able to gain 5 yards on there next four carries. The Cougar offensive team quickly lines up. Game Announcer 1: "As the Cougars line up at their 45 yard line the score remains 54 - 24 with the Beavers trailing. The time is 58 seconds on a running clock. Do you think the Cougars will just let the time run out?" Game Announcer 2: "Not from what I've seen tonight. I think they will try another touchdown. Let's see!" The ball snaps, Luke runs toward the left side of the field and is tackled on the Beaver's 45. They line back up. The ball snaps, Luke hands the ball to Mark and they both head down the right side of the field. The timer sounds just before Mark crosses into the infield. Game Announcer 1: "Mark McCormick, the ball carrier, was able to complete the play after the buzzed sounded! Final score Hazzard Cougars 60, Placid Beavers 24!" Game Announcer 2: "This is going to be an interesting season as these same two teams play each other again on Nov. 1st in Placid County."
  2. Game Announcer 1: "Wow!! Can you believe this?? We are about to start the 4th quarter here at the home field of the Hazzard Cougars and what a game this has been. The Cougars are leading the Beavers with a score of 42 - 18. As you know the Placid Beavers were favored to win tonight largely due to the fact that the Cougars only have three Seniors on their whole team." Game Announcer 2: "Well, From my seat here I'd never known that! This Hazzard team is just that a "team"! On the other hand the Beavers who should be a seasoned team seem to be coming unglued! They are racking up unheard of penalties! Ralph Green, Defensive End, for the Beavers has received four of the penalties for Ruffing the Passer and several more. Game Announcer 1: "Yes, it is beginning to look like Ralph Green and Luke Duke for the Cougars are taking this game personally." Game Announcer 2: "Well, it appears the Green is trying to intimidate Duke from Hazzard. But folks we are seeing no signs of 'backing up' from the Cougars' Sophomore Quarterback. It looks like we are ready to begin the final quarter of this surprising start to the High School football season." Its Hazzards ball as the 4th quarter begins. The Offensive team lines up with Cooter Davenport a Junior as Center. Cooter snaps the ball to Luke who calmly passes the ball to Wide Receiver Mark McCormick just as the Beaver's Defensive line swamps Luke again. The whistle blows as flags fly on the play. The penalty is once again called on the Beaver Defensive End, Ralph Green. A time out is called by the Beaver Coach who motions for Green to come off the field. Ralph expecting to get taken out of the game begins shouting threats and obscenities to Luke. Luke walks toward the much bigger Receiver and stands his ground, followed by the entire Cougar line. Referees and Coaches scurry to get in between the two whole teams. It takes several minutes to get the two teams back to their respective positions. The Beaver Coach benches Ralph Green for the rest of the game, while Hazzard's Coach replaces Luke for a few plays to let him calm down some. From Robin McCormick's place with the cheerleaders, she had had a close up view of the events between Luke and Ralph. She was definitely impressed by Luke who had stood up to the larger player but then again Robin was impressed by Luke period. "Robin?" Jill questioned, "Earth to Robin. Hey, we need to get back at it. Which cheer is next?" Robin smiles, "Huh?" Jill is getting hipper, "Huh? What do you mean Huh? You didn't' hear a word i said did you?" Admittedly, Robin blushes, "No, guess I didn't." "Cheer? Which one? Remember that's why we are so 'lucky' to have this kinda view. Think we'd better earn our keep after that out there." Robin who was acting as the head cheerleader until one could be voted on the next week, knew it was important to get the crowds attention off the mess on the field and side lines before they became upset and fights started in the crowds. However, she was so interested in what was going on with Luke she was having a hard time concentrating. "Your right. OK, let's do number 5." They lined to begin the cheer.
  3. Game Announcer 1:" That's then end of the first quarter. Leading with a score of 18 to 12 Hazzard Cougars take an early lead over the Placid Beavers. The surprise of the evening has been Luke Duke, the quarterback for the Hazzard Cougars. Luke has scored two of the three touchdowns thus far and get this, is a Sophomore! This is his first High School game. The other touchdown for the Cougars was made by Wide Receiver Mark McCormick a Junior this year. Both touchdowns for the Beavers were made by Mike Miller a Senior." As the teams switch ends of the field the players take advantage of the chance to grab a sip on their "Water" bottles. They line back up. Its the Cougars ball. The Beavers Defensive End, Ralph Green, is trying his best to intimidate Luke who is not being intimidated in the least. The ball snaps, Luke the ball carrier fakes out the Beavers, then manages to get out in front for another Hazzard touchdown! As the game continues, the Hazzard Cougars are becoming more and more confident due to the increasing score and also to Jesse's finest. The Beavers on the other hand are becoming more and more agitated. They had been the favorite to win. They had seasoned players and Hazzard had beginners. The Beavers were becoming careless and begin racking up penalties. A large part of the penalties were being earned by Ralph Green who was hearing about it after every play from the coach. At halftime all eyes were on the Hazzard Band and Cheerleaders as they put on a well rehearsed show. In the the Cougar locker room the Hazzard Coach was extremely proud of his team. He was so excited that he didn't notice that several of his players had a bit of a glow to them that was not game induced. The guys were careful to refill their own water bottles with water so that no one caught on. Luke had managed to get to a position where he could catch some of the halftime show, namely Robin's part. Mark walked up behind Luke, "So which one of the cheerleaders are you sizing up?" "Me? No one in particular. Just kinda studying the whole field." Luke lied since it was Marks sister he was checking out. "Well, you better get over there and listen to Coach and get your mind back on the game. I think that Defensive End has it out for you." suggests Mark. Luke laughs, "You know I think your right on both counts."
  4. Duke Farm: With the morning choirs completed before breakfast, everyone had taken their coffee cups to the front porch to enjoy a quiet country morning. Jesse followed with another fresh pot of coffee. He puts it down on the table and takes his seat. The quiet is short lived as the phone rings. Jesse remarks, "Wouldn't you know it." "I'll get it Uncle Jesse." says Daisy as she hurries off to answer the phone. Daisy returns with the phone, "It's for you Sugar." she says handing the phone to BJ. The 'Sugar' comment does not go unnoticed by Callie who gives her a dirty look which is caught only by BJ. BJ takes the phone. "BJ McKay." he laughs, "Oh, Hi Bo. No she didn't say who it was." BJ listens. "Well, I've got mine and Callie's rigs here now. Hang on." To Callie, BJ asks, "Do you have any idea where Stacks and Samantha are hauling?" Callie replies, "Well, they both had loads in California when I left." BJ replies, "OK. Bo where are you?" pause, "I can call and see where the others are but I can have two trucks to you in an hour. See you then." Everyone is looking at BJ as he hangs up. "That was Bo. Seems Diane's tractors are pretty much down and she needs her equipment moved from Placid County Fairgrounds to Lee County Fairgrounds for the State Fair." Jesse gets up to go in the house, "BJ I'm not trying to tell you how to run your business, but I will tell you keep your eyes open. I just can't trust that Diane." BJ follows Jesse into the house, "I understand your concern about her especially from what I've heard about the last time she was here. I will be careful. Thank you." BJ pauses a minute. "Mr. Duke before I call would you mind if I tried to talk all my crew into coming out here for a visit." Jesse gives BJ a questioning look. BJ continues, "Mr. Duke you know Daisy has always been special to me. The timing was bad the last time I was here. Things are going pretty well for the short time I've been here. All the others are some pretty special ladies who are very close to me. They have stood by me and backed me up when I couldn't get help anywhere else. I need my other trucks to do this job but I'd also like to take advantage of this and have all the girls come out so they can meet Daisy. I don't have much family but these friends are like my family. I'd kind of like Daisy to get to know them ...... and let them get used to the idea of Daisy being around." Jesse listens intently, "Is Daisy going to be around?", questions Jesse. "All I can say on that is, I think I'd like that very much. However, I'm in no rush and I don't think she is. I'd just like to start laying a little foundation." replies BJ. Jesse smiles, liking how tactful BJ had been. "Well, almost anything can weather storms if it is set on a good foundation. Anytime you feel we need to talk, you let me know. For now though, call me 'Jesse' and you'd better get that call made so you can get that job done." Understanding the underlying tones of Jesse's statements, BJ returns the smile, "Yes, Sir, Mr. Duke... ahh, .... Jesse that is. And thank you for everything." BJ extends his hand toward Jesse who still meet his grip with a firm hand shake.
  5. Chapter 16 Carnival Trouble At the Fair Ground Diane's trailer -- Fairgrounds Placid County: Diane, dressed in a robe, is standing at the stove fixing a cup of coffee as Bo, wearing only jeans and a towel around his neck, steps into the kitchen area of the trailer. He steps behind Diane and places his arms around her waist as he kisses the back of her neck. She hands Bo the cup of coffee as she turns to him. "Looks like you need this more than I do." she states. Bo smiles, "Thanks." He whispers. "Not so loud." Diane pours another cup of coffee for herself as she sets down on the couch beside Bo. She whispers, "Last night coming back to haunt you?" "Slightly." Bo replies. "I hope not all of it?" she questions. Bo says, "No, Honey, of course not." Diane turns to Bo, "Any regrets?" "None at all where you're concerned. Just a bit too much partying." says Bo rubbing his head. "You just seem a bit out of sorts this morning." she says. "Sorry, I guess. Well, its .... well, hard to explain." Bo starts. Diane turns to him and places her arms around his neck, "Try me." she smiles. Bo sighs, "Well, I know it's been a long while since me and Luke have ran around this County in the General Lee on a regular basis, but ......" Seeing where this is going, Diane finishes his sentence, "With Luke getting married." "Right...", replies Bo, "It's not going to be the same.", Pouts Bo. "It was different enough with us both working out of here. I thought things were getting back to 'normal', what ever that is, when we decided to all come back here working very limited schedules out of here. "And you don't like change?", questions Diane. Bo sighs, "No, I guess I don't. I mean I want Luke and Dixie to be happy but...." Bo is interrupted by the phone ringing. Diane reaches to get it. "Diane Benton." Diane listens, "Pete we have got to get this stuff on the road to Lee County today to be set up for the State Fair. Can they be fixed today?" As Diane pauses to hear the other end of the conversation, Bo had became interested in the situation. Diane continued, " OK, just do your best and get the big ride moving first." She hangs up the phone with a loud sigh. "What is it?" inquires Bo. "Remember that equipment I borrowed the money to have repaired? Well it just went down. I had put 2 rigs in the shop for minor repairs but they had to order the parts and they won't be ready until next week. Now I have 2 more with more serious problems that aren't going to make this trip until they are repaired. That leaves me with one rig to move all this." She pulls back the curtain to show a huge carnival. "Not to mention the other 3 trucks of stunt equipment out back. I've got to get this big stuff into the Fair grounds and set up so everything else can be set up around it. Otherwise they will set up and I'll not be able to get the big rides in." Diane says discouraged. Bo hugs her, "How many trucks would it take?" "With 5 it was hard. It took multiple trips. But with one it will be almost impossible." she says not following Bo's thinking. "Well, it the rigs repairs will take awhile. Do you have the money to pay someone to move it for you? Then you could use the profit from the State Fair to pay for the truck repairs." Bo suggests. Diane considers this, "Yes, I think that could be managed but anyone will charge an arm and a leg." Bo replies, "Maybe not. Hand me the phone."
  6. Chapter 15 B The Honeymoon! Later that night in town. NARRATOR: "Later that night in town at Cooter's Garage (Command Post Central) -- Operation Shivaree is coming together." "BJ, I truly love your idea about the signs! Where on Earth did you get the idea?" Asks a slightly tipsy Daisy. Callie in the background rolls her eyes and says in a low voice, "You'd think none of these people ever traveled a highway." Bo asks, "Is everyone ready?" Everyone nods. "OK, Jeb, you, Coy, Vance, and the girls go ahead of us. We'll pick you up and remember to be quiet!" the six leave the garage. Jesse looks to BJ, "Just how quiet can the rig of yours be?" BJ replies, "Trust me, they will never know I'm there." Cooter says, "OK, Let's do it." BJ jumps into the driver seat as Cooter and Bo get into place sitting on the cab of BJ's rig in front on the top windows. Daisy gets into her Jeep "Dixie". Jesse into his pick up. Callie gets into her rig. Kathy jumps into the wrecker with Diane in the passenger seat. BJ starts his rig which has been uncoupled from the trailer. He eases it to the center of the road in front of the Hazzard Motel letting the rig quietly ideal while Bo and Cooter hang a banner from the TV line crossing the road. Bear slips out the window of the tractor and shimmy's up to the balcony where he hangs a banner "Just Married" on the rail. Bo, Cooter, and Bear slip into the big rig and the show begins. BJ lets out on the clutch as he hits the air horns, followed by Daisy's Jeep, Cooter's wrecker, Jesse's pick up and Callie's rig. In room 2 of the Hazzard Motel Luke sits straight up as the air horn sounds, startling Dixie more than the air horn had. "See, I told you! I knew they'd pull something like this!" Luke says as he reaches for his pants kept handy from habit being a Smoke Jumper. Dixie laughs and reaches for her heavy robe. They head for the balcony. One the first slow circle Coy, Vance, Jeb, and the 3 waitresses are picked up by the various vehicles. Bo also gets off and picks up the General Lee. With horns blaring, and engines roaring they circle repeatedly yelling their Best Wishes for the new couple. No one notices when Jesse parks beside the Motel and slips up the stairs to the door of room 2 where he places a jug of his finest shine and a card from all who were involved in the Shivaree, then slips back out and into the circling vehicles. After several times around Hazzard Square and seeing that they had indeed got the newlyweds attention, Bo replaces the General Lee, and the Shivaree party all heads for Jesse's to continue their party there. Luke and Dixie go back inside as the gang heads out of town. Dixie asks, "Do you think they will be back?" Luke replies, "No, but I told you I wasn't overreacting!!!" They both laugh. "OK, so you were right this time!" she says still laughing at the antics of their friends and families. They kiss passionately. Luke picks up his bride and places her back on the bed. Several hours later as Hazzard begins to wake up, Luke and Dixie are awaken by someone tooting a car horn as it passes the window. Minutes later, another car horn is tooted from the other direction. Then, it seems as if every car passing their rooms blows the horn. It was early morning after a long night, Luke was not amused but couldn't figure why the cars were blowing their horns. He tosses back the covers as Dixie asks, "Where do you think your going?" "Come on." Luke says, extending his hand. "I figured that we may as well grab a quick shower, then maybe get some breakfast at the dinner, and I hope to figure out what's up with the horns out there." Dixie smiles mischievously, "OK, but just remember, one shower isn't as quick as two!" Still holding her hand Luke heads for the shower, "I'll just have to take the chance." Opening the door Luke sees the jug of Jesse's finest and a card from all those who participated in the Shivaree wishing them the best. He sets it inside as he and Dixie leave the room. Leaving the Motel Luke spots the banner hanging about the street which read "Congratulations Dixie and Luke" and under it in big red letters "HONK NOW!!!!!" He points it out to Dixie. "How on Earth?" she exclaims. "You forget that bunch is pretty resourceful!" Luke laughs. As the walk the short distance to the dinner they notice a sign on the telephone pole which read "NOW". The next pole read "HONK". Further up the street a sign read, "PLEASE". Luke says, "Come on Dear, I think I see what's up." They continue up the street and so do the signs, reading, "LUKE", then "AND", then "Dixie", followed by, "WISHES", and finally "BEST". "Luke, do you believe that they would go to all this trouble?" Dixie asks amazingly. Shaking his head, "Yes, I do. 'Best wishes Dixie and Luke. Please Honk Now'. Care to bet that there are the same signs coming from the other direction too? Just think what they could have come up with if we'd let them have days rather than hours to plan." Laughing, "No bet. I'd hate to think!" states Dixie as they walk into the dinner. The waitress come over with two cups and a pot of coffee. "Congratulations to you both! Are you ready to order." Dixie and Luke both thank the young girl. Dixie looks to Luke, "Coffee is fine for me right now." Luke agrees.
  7. The rest of the week followed the busy scheduled of morning choirs, school, practice, evening choirs. For Luke this was followed by added choirs at one of several of Jesse's stills. Jesse Duke was known by many as the best moonshiner in several states and Luke had the ambition to learn the trade. The most important ingrediant to Jesse's whole operation was secrecy. Though many knew he made and ran shine, only family knew where the stills were located and where and when the shine would be delivered. There were a few close friends such as the Davenports who helped keep the runners one step in front of the law. Then there were the McCormicks -- Bill nor his elders had every made or ran shine. Though on occasion they had been known to "break down" or be at a convenient location to slow the revenuers or local law down. Bill hoped he had been able to convince Marc not to participate in the shine business but he had to wonder how much this lesson had sunk in to his oldest son. Thursday night Duke farm: The telephone rings shortly before 9pm. Uncle Jesse answers it, "Duke Farm." followed by, "Luke, phones for you." Luke comes in from the front porch, "Hello." A male voice Luke knows to be Marc McCormick says, "Luke, you don't have to ride the bus in the morning. I just got finished doing double choirs to get to take Dad's truck to school tomorrow!" "No way! How do you plan to do that without a license?" replies Luke disbelieving that Bill would give his truck, his pride and joy, to Marc without a license. "Easy came the reply. I made my license today!" came the reply. Luke tries not to sound real eager hoping that Jesse will think they are responsible enough so that he can ride with Marc in the morning. So he says lowly, "Oh, that is great! Hang on a second and I'll ask." He turns toward where Jesse is pouring himself a cup of coffee. "Uncle Jesse can I ride to school in the morning with Marc?" Jesse looks up, "You, ah, do mean Bill is taking Marc to school?" "No, Marc is driving Bill's truck to school." replies Luke hopefully. Jesse is now facing one of his worst fears. He knows these boys and their love for cars. He has seen each of them go from steering not only on their Dad's laps but also his lap to driving tractors on the farms, to driving clunkers around the fields. They were all good and had the potential to be good drivers. They had more experience than most kids there age behind the wheel of a moving vehicle but they had always been supervised. Luke sees the concern in Jesse's eyes, "Come on Uncle Jesse, you've seen Marc drive and would Bill let him drive his truck if he weren't a good driver? Besides I have to take all my stuff for the game to school in the morning." He reminded hopefully. Jesse realizes that the kids are growing up and he has to start letting them spread their wings a bit. "Well, OK, but it's not going to be an everyday thing." "Yee Ha! I mean, OK, your right it won't be. Thanks Uncle Jesse!" exclaims Luke. To the phone, "OK, Marc I can ride in the morning but not everyday." "OK!!! There's only one draw back." Marc pauses not wanting to tell Luke the rest. Luke says, "What's the problem?" Marc half embarrassed, "Well, Robin. I have to take her too. Seems she has almost as much stuff as we do to get to school in the morning." Luke laughs, "Well, that's the hazard of being an older brother. Believe me the others can't wait until January when I get my license. They have things all planned. Just ask any of them! Besides shouldn't Robin get her license herself soon?" Marc growls as Robin walked by, "Not soon enough! If they get the insurance on my Fire-bird I maybe able to switch it out and take it to the garage so we can work on it some Sat." Luke replies, "Yeah, that would be 'nice'." Marc not catching on, says, " 'Nice???' " "Yeah, its nice that your Mom is bringing snacks to the locker room after the game. We'll have to talk about that in the morning." replies Luke. Trying to hide his amusement at his friend, Marc replies, "So I take it you can't talk. Guess we will have a lot to talk about in the morning! Sh---!! We can't talk in the morning, Robin will be there!" Luke replied, "Your right about that. Look I got to go help Jesse." Catching himself and knowing Hazzards phone system. "Help Jesse, ah, string beans." Marc replied as coolly to Luke, "Just remember I 'like' green beans too! See you about 6:30 in the morning." Laughing at his friends innocent reply, "OK, you got it. See ya then!" Luke hangs up the phone as Jesse rises his coffee cup. Jesse checks on Bo, Daisy, Jeb, Coy and Vance who are in various places finishing their homework. To Bo he says, "Bo, me and Luke are going to easy out of here for a spell. If you need anything I'm on channel 17 and we'll be at site 4. I want you all in bed when I get back." Bo replies, "Yes, sir, but why can't I go too. I went all summer." Jesse says, "Because you are the oldest here. I need you to make sure that the others are done with homework and in bed when I get back. If you remember that was Luke's duty last year. And I will be needing you more and more with me especially when Luke here gets his license and starts driving more." McCormicks house just before 9pm: "Marc please stay off the phone a few minutes. I'm expecting a call and you know we can't use the phone after 9pm and you can." Begs Robin. "Oh, OK, I think I'll go wash the truck." says Marc. Robin looks at him like he's lost his mind, "Washing the truck at 9pm. It will be dark soon." Marc replies over his shoulder, "Never heard of drop lights? Besides, I'm not taking a dirty truck to school!" The phone rings. Robin answers it on the second ring. "Hello." "Man, I thought I'd NEVER get through before 9pm!" exclaims Jill. Robin replies, "Yeah, I know, Marc has been on the phone since he got in. He got his license today and had to brag to all of Hazzard!" Jill exclaims, "Wow! This can be good. At least one of the bunch has a license now! But what I want to know is how has it been riding home EVERY day with Luke??" Jill asks enviously. "Well, if you've noticed after that first day I've not worn a dress so I can ride the back of the trucks with the guys. Yet, with Marc there, and him treating me like I'm a baby mostly they talk among themselves about cars and I just listen." says Robin. Jill suggests, "Well, what if you dressed up 'for the game' tomorrow?" Thinking Robin replied, "You may have something there. Tomorrow Marc is driving Dads truck to school then we'll all go to the field directly after school so I could do something. Will you wear a dress too? Please?" Jill agreed, "Well, OK, I guess I can throw something together on short notice." "Great!" Robin's Dad comes through the living room pointing at his watch. She gives him a thumbs up. "Look, I got to get off here now see you in the morning." Jill replies, "OK, night." Still sight #4. Luke is bottling the shine in nothing but one gallon glass jugs as Jesse is getting another batch of mash ready to cook. Luke says, "Uncle Jesse thanks for letting me ride with Marc in the morning." "Well, Luke, I like Marc and his family but I have this feeling that Marc is a bit wild and I can't help but worry about you with him." states Jesse honestly. "I guess I can see where you're coming from with him but he's OK. I'd say it won't be too long before he gets his ride on the road, then I half expect him to come see you about driving for you some at least until I get my license." replies Luke. Looking Luke in the eye, "What do you think Bill and Brenda would say about that?" Luke reflects on this question. He has spent time with Marc at his house over the years and knows both Marc's Dad and Mother well. He meets Jesse's eyes with his, "I think Marc would hope they knew nothing about it." "I see." replies Jesse. "He would want me to hire him at a ripe old age of 16, against his parents wishes to do a job that could get him put in jail or dead and not tell his parents about it. Getting his license does not make him grown. He still drives their vehicles and lives under their roof and I would still have to look them in the eye. This is a family tradition and yes it does help support us when the crops don't do well or when prices are low but I'm not out to be like J.D. Hogg. This is not my main income nor will it every be. I'm interested in making some quality corn whiskey for some friends and their friends to share an art that has been passed down in this family from generation to generation long before their were laws to say we couldn't make it. You can also keep in mind I do still pay taxes on everything from the corn and sugar to that there jug in your hand! Further more, I don't ask you or Bo or any of you kids to get involved in this. You all have begged from the time you could talk to ride in the runners and sometimes I think you all forget there are real dangers in this. Do you all think I carry that there shot gun up here for looks? I'm all that stands between you all and leaving this county if I were to get caught at this." Jesse goes silent. Realizing that he has went on and on and Luke had merely stated he 'thought' Marc may ask for a job. Luke looks down, "Uncle Jesse I didn't mean to get you upset. I just wanted you not to be surprised if Marc asked to talk to you. I do realize the dangers, but you'd not really kill someone with that shot gun would you?" Before Jesse can answer Luke finishes his statement to let Jesse know he has been paying attention all these years. "Especially, with it loaded with only rock salt." The surprise showed in Jesse's eyes. "Well, you got me there. But it could really sting someone for a spell if they got too close. Nope it is not loaded to kill, it is only to buy me sometime to get out of here." Luke smiles knowing that under Jesse's gruff exterior he has a heart of gold. He caps the last full jug of shine. "Uncle Jesse tomorrow after the game and you get this load delivered why don't you bring Tilly to the garage and Cooter, Marc and I will stay there and Saturday will put all those parts Luther (Cooter's Dad) ordered for you on old Tilly. "Well, that sounds like a winner to me. So you all are staying at the garage Friday night?" Since school had been out all summer this had been something that the boys had started doing every so often. Luke looked at Jesse hopefully, "Well, yes, with no school Saturday I hoped you wouldn't mind. I have talked with Jeb and he will do mine and Bo's Sat. morning choirs so that Bo can go too and I'll get his choirs Sat. night and Sunday." Jesse shakes his head, "OK, I don't mind. I'm glad to see you thought of the farm first. So what do you all have planned?" "Well, we figured on hanging out after the game until you get there with Tilly and then work on her a bit. We should be home by afternoon.", replies Luke. Jesse nods, "Well, I think we can call her a night. Looks like we have everything ready except for loading up tomorrow night. No one should expect me out after the game tomorrow night." Laughs Jesse. Luke asks, "Are you sure you won't need any help loading?" "What do I look like some kind of old geezer to you? I've been totting this here stuff since before you where a thought!" exclaims Jesse. "Besides Old Tilly can slide right in here to be loaded. That's why I chose this sight for this run you'll see you got to consider a lot when you plan these things out." Luke smiles, "No, Sir, you'll never be an old geezer to me! Just let me box the rest of this before we go. Are you sure you don't want me to go with you or anything tomorrow night; not that you need me or anything." Jesse replies, "No, you all go have a good time after the game. This is your first year in High School. These next three years will fly by but they can be the best years of your life if you let them. I want you to learn responsibility but I also want you to enjoy this time in your life." states Jesse. "Yes, Sir, I will." says Luke as he watches Jesse finish cleaning up as he is boxing the gallons of shine. He carefully reaches for his blue jean jacket laying on a stump and slips two quart Mason jars filled with Jesse's finest in the pockets of the jacket. He had fully intended to ask Jesse for them but since Jesse got so upset when he told him Mark "may" want to drive for him he had reconsidered the asking part. Of course for Luke and the others shine had always been around and it was nothing for them to take sips from Jesse's own glass at the house. They had even done it as small children when their own Dad's had been sipping on a taste of shine to show off in front of company and on special occasions. The Duke family had always felt that by not hiding the shine and the fact that it was a family business that it would be no big deal to the young ones. Thus when they became young adults that it would be no big deal to be able to drink some of the "fruits" of their labor and thus would be less likely to over indulge. Friday morning Duke Farm: Mark and Robin pull up to the kitchen door of the Duke farm house. Mark is careful not to do anything to seem reckless. Luke hears the truck and grabs all his football gear from the back porch and heads for the truck. He tosses the gear into the back of the truck and opens the door. Robin slides over closer to Mark to let Luke in. She as on a white off the shoulders type blouse on with a denim floor length skirt and high heeled sandals. Mark complains, "Robin why don't just just get in the king cab?" "No, way Mark, not in a dress and heels am I climbing into the back seat!" Exclaims Robin. Luke checks her out from head to toe as he agrees with her, "Mark, it's no big deal. There is plenty of room for us three up here." He says as he climb in beside Robin. With sweaty hands and a lump in her throat she manages to say, "Thanks Luke." "It's nothing. I'm just glad to not have to ride the bus with all that stuff. Mark you couldn't have planned this better." Mark replies, "Yes, I could have! They are getting the Fire-bird legal today! Dad will drive it to the game and we'll switch then. Is everything set for tonight with Cooter?" "Well, if you stop and pick him up we'll ask him." Luke says as they approach the Davenport farm where Cooter is waiting on the bus. Mark pulls to the side of the road where Cooter is standing. "Toss your stuff in back." Mark says as he exits the truck to let Cooter into the king cab behind him."Sorry about you having to ride back there." Cooter replies, "Well anything beats riding that slow bus! Hi all!" Friday evening Hazzard County High School locker room -- Home of the Cougars!: The football players are arriving from their long walk or short drive from the school. Luke looks at Mark. "I hope your Dad gets here soon with the Fire-bird I have something I NEED to put in it before the game starts." "Oh?" asks Mark. "Yes, its something for later." replies Luke. Mark just smiles. Luke grins in return. "I'm going to get a head start and fill our water bottles so they can get cold in the frig." "OK.", says Mark. "Sounds like a good idea." Luke finds the water bottles and labels the twelve starters bottles with a permanent marker. He then takes them to the counter where the jug of water is setting. As everyone is busy no one really pays him any attention. He pours the contents of one mason jar into the water bottles of fellow player he knows he can trust then tops then off with clear pop. He then fills the other players bottles with water and places all them in the refrigerator to chill. As the coach walks in Luke has just finished getting suited up for his first High School game.
  8. Yes, I know that that show it was "Cain's Cruiser". The main reason Lobo was after BJ is in the pilot he helped Lobo's "Ladies of the Night" escape Lobo and Perkins. Lobo was arrested at the end on that show thus being humilitated in his town. Later Lobo kidnaps Bear (the Chimp) then BJ has to come back to testifiy. As you can probably remember even in Lobos show BJ was his "enemy". I have the series -- no my memory isn't that good. Sadly Universal owns the rights and BJ has not been put on VHS or DVD. I've had to hunt them down on e-bay. If your interested in reliving those days search BJ and the Bear Fan Club there is a great one out there! WHICH is how I found this site! As you can tell I am a bigh fan of both shows as well as the vehicles!!! I'd rather watch them than the new shows!! I just received my DOH 1st series on DVD this week and have been tied up so I have yet to watch all them again!!!! I still know the scripts word for word! LOL DixieDavenport
  9. The bell rings sounding the end of the first day of school. The day was over for most, but for a selected few it was time to head off behind the parking lot to the practice field for football, cheerleader, or band practice. Luke soon met up with Marc and Cooter on his way. Though Luke was a 10 the grader his ability in Jr. High and previous practices had earned him a starting position on the Hazzard Team. Also, due to many cheerleaders graduating last year Robin and Jill also had a good chance at making the first string as cheerleaders. Walking over to the field Luke asks, "So Marc how are you getting home?" Marc replies, "About like you I guess, being picked up by Dad." "What do you say Jesse drops you off today and tomorrow I can hitch a ride with you." Suggests Luke. "Hey, that's good with me, but Robin is also going to need a ride." Marc sighs. Luke replies, "That shouldn't be a problem. Go call your Dad and tell him you all have a ride." "OK, Cool. Tell coach I'll be right back." says Marc as he heads for the main office and the phone. Cheer leading practice ended with the announcement that the final tryouts would be held tomorrow. Jill and Robin are walking toward the parking lot where Robin's Dad should be waiting but his truck is not there. At this point the football team races by them with Luke, Cooter and Marc in the lead. The surround Jesse's pick up using it for a base. Luke approaches Jesse's window. "Uncle Jesse, you wouldn't mind dropping off Marc and his sister today and his Dad bring me home tomorrow? And I asked Cooter to stay over tonight?" Jesse laughs, "Why that there sounds like a plan. No need us both quitting choirs early every day. I'm sure Cooter will help you get caught up too." Jesse supported all 'his' kids in athletics but the farm work came first. Robin walks up to the pickup where Marc has already climbed into the back. "Marc? What are you doing and where's Dad?" Jill has waited by Robin to make sure she had a ride before going to the old van the orphanage used to transport the kids. Marc sighes a "Kids!" sigh then replies, "Mr. Duke is taking us home today and Dad will drop Luke off tomorrow." Robin and Jill look at each other with a surprised look. Jill manages to say, "Call me later!" as she head for the old van thinking that Robin was very lucky. The girls had grown up around these guys yet even in junior high these guys seemed more interested in fast cars and sports than they were girls. Jesse noticed Robin was in a skirt and said, "Robin, you can ride up here with me. This old work truck is pretty dirty back there." Robin smiled a weak smile of thanks. She would have loved to have ridden in back to get to know Luke better, but the thought of climbing over the tailgate in a dress in front of these guys didn't seem like a good idea. She thanked Jesse as she climbed in up front. "Thank you, Mr. Duke for the ride home." "Well now little lady, it ain't no problem. How was your first day in High School?" Jesse asked with a kind face. Robin replied, "I can see how different it is going to be from Jr. High that's for sure." In the back of the truck: After the old truck starts out towards home, Marc asks, "Luke, the first game is Friday. I know a few guys who'd like to start the season out right IF you get my drift." Luke smiles, "Yeah, I get your drift. After the regular choirs I've got to help Jesse some and that old still has been known to leak a little from time to time. "Cooter how full is your Dad's garage this week? I'm trying to talk Jesse into letting us put a dummy tank on that runner." Cooter smiles a devilish grin, "You just talk him into it we'll get Tilley in there. As a matter of fact, Dad has those parts that Mr. Jesse wanted put on her." "That is great. Maybe we can get her in late one night and fix her up." Luke replies. Cooter reminds him, "When? With school all week and the game Friday??" "Well, OK, then how about Saturday? Marc what are you doing Saturday?" questions Luke. They both say together, "Saturday. That's good for me." "Great it's set. Jesse can drop Tilley off Friday night sometime and we can camp out at the garage Friday night after the game and get an early start Saturday morning." suggests Luke. Cooter says, "Yeah, there is plenty of room over the garage for us." "Party time after the game!" says Marc. Cooter and Luke just grin.
  10. I LOVE IT!!!! I'm still laughing! I agree that the remaining old cast should have air time to introduce us to the new generation of Hazzard and NOT have a different BO, Luke, Daisy and Cooter! By the way, Ben Jones (Cooter) said at last years Duke Fest he WAS available!!! There are many way for this to have occurred -- either through long lost cousins OR through children of our generation Dukes --- hear out the idea -- In the first Dukes, it is mentioned then left alone (I guess because it was a family show) that at least 2 of the children in the orphanage COULD be Luke's! He said Bo was always bragging on him then the idea was NEVER mentioned again. AND Cooter did have a daughter in on show! And as seen on one of the stories here -- Daisy and Hughie could have gotten together when they intended on getting married once so the possiblities are there for another generation. I really like your idea about Roscoe retiring and bringing in Hoarse Hogg! Like I said I'm still laughing which is what Dukes was all about! Love the part of Mandy and Roger forgetting WHY he stopped her!!! Yes, Hazzard needs more semi's!! If you agree check out Bj Goes to Hazard --Just hope your old enough to remember the concept!! I admit I wrote it assuming people would remember the BIG RED and WHITE Kenworth! DixieDavenport

  13. Chapter 15 The Honeymoon! In town— Luke and Dixie pull up to the back of the Hazzard Motel. As Luke helps Dixie out of the car he says, “We’ll go check in then I’ll take the General and park him where no one is sure to look for him.†“Luke are you sure that’s necessary?†questions Dixie. Luke takes her hand as the walk around to the front of the Motel, “Yes, remember that you know all our friends and family, but I have been around them a little more than you have.†Dixie smiles, “Well, OK. But I think you’re over reacting just a bit. “ Luke replies, “Innocence. I love it!†At the room Luke unlocks and opens the door. He then picks Dixie up into his arms and cares her across the thresh whole into the room. Kissing her deeply he stands her back on the floor. As they look around the room immediately they realize that their whereabouts are known. Narrator: “Looks like old Luke has been had!†“Darling for about two cents we’d go get back in the General Lee and head for the mountains.†Luke says with an air of defeat. “I don’t think there is much use in moving the General now.†Dixie smiles, “Nope, it doesn’t look that way. I’d say by the looks of things, we have a lot of friends and family who want us to have the perfect night that we deserve. So why don’t I just take this (reaching for her small bag) and I’ll be out in a bit.†She says heading for the bathroom. Luke takes a look around the room. Spotting the candles he lights them. He smiles seeing the shine and pours some into the goblets left with them. He reaches into his things and pulls out a small tape player and sets it up. Hearing the shower cut on, he figured now would be as good a time as any to let work know where he’d be as he had went on call at midnight. He picked up the phone and placed the phone call. The voice on the other end answered, “Base Camp.†Luke recognized the voice of his friend and fellow Smokejumper, Randy Wood. “Randy, how does it look so far this season?†questioned Luke. “Luke, Buddy, where are you? You always beat me here.†Randy replied. Luke answers, “Well, not this year. I hope not to see all you ugly guys this year at all unless you really need me.†“What? You’re going to miss all this fun and the overtime? With no more rain than we’ve had this year, I’m sure this is going to be a hot summer. We’re already watching several places.†Randy states disappointed his friend is not there. “Hey, you know I’d like to be there, but you remember my Uncle Jesse that I’ve told you about? Well, he won’t admit it but he really needs all of us here for a while. This place is getting too much for him right now, but it would be easier to sweet talk a grizzly out of his dinner than to get him to admit it.†States Luke. Knowing how close the Dukes are Randy states, a little shamed at himself for being selfish, “Oh, man. I hope everything is OK. I mean it won’t be the same this year without you but your right your family comes first.†Luke replies, “Hey, all of you are my family too. And I didn’t said that I won’t be there at all this year. Just call me when you have something bad and I’ll be ready. I have this all worked out and approved at the top. There is a football field here that will make a great ***L-Z. The local fire department has agreed to set it up any time you need me it won’t take long to organize. As a matter of fact I’m calling to let you all know where I’ll be the next 2 nights. I won’t be at the farm.†Randy shakes his head at the amount of unusual information Luke has just thrown at him. “Whooo, slow down a minute so I can jump on your train of thought. After all I haven’t had to try to comprehend things as fast as you think them in several months!†Luke laughs, “Look, all you have to do is put me on the top of the call out list and let the ‘Old Man’ know that I’m coming. He’ll arrange the bird. I’ll arrange the L-Z. Easy!†“Yeah, easy, right. Worked with you too long Duke, to know, anything associated with you is not going to be easy.†Randy sighed. Laughing again, Luke says, “Here is my number for the next two nights, after that I’ll be at the farm or they will know where to reach me quickly. It is the Hazzard Motel 555-7689 room 2.†Curious, “Luke why on Earth are you staying at a Motel in your own home town?†asks Randy. “I’ve been trying to explain that since I got on the phone.†States Luke. “You have?†questions Randy. Laughing, Luke says, “Yes, I have. You just talk too much!†Luke pauses, “You see, I got married this…†Luke stops in mid sentence as he hears the sure sound of someone choking on the other end of the phone. Randy had choked on the hot coffee he had been sipping when Luke sprang this information on him. This gets the attention of every Smokejumper in the room. Randy coughs, and gasps for air as he tries to say, “You ….â€, gasp, “got…..â€, gasp. Luke is laughing so hard at his friends reaction that he is now in tears as he tries to help his friend finish the sentence by simply saying, “Married.†“MARRIED! ???â€, gasp, cough, “You? Got Married?†he exclaims. Around him the rest of the jumpers are asking 'who' while trying to get Randy to take slow deep breaths, and figure out who he’s talking to. “Yes, I got married this morning.†Replies Luke. Gaining a little composure, Randy announces to the room of Smokejumpers that Luke known to most of the Smokejumpers, “Luke got married this morning!†he exclaimed. There are cheers of joy and mostly disbelief from the group as they all shout into the phone around Randy the “Congratulations!†Luke hears the shower cutting off, “Tell that unruly mob behind you ‘Thanks’. Are you sure you have my number?†Randy replies, “Yes, I it 555-7689 room 2 as well as the farm. I’ll be sure not to call you for a few days unless things get bad.†Luke says, “Thanks. I’ll be in touch with you all soon. And, Randy.†He pauses, “Don’t let things get bad!†Randy responds, “I’ll do my best. Have fun.†Luke says as he is already putting the phone down, “I intend too.†Dixie, dressed in the sheerest white nightie trimmed in white lace with matching robe, enters the bedroom with her medium length brown hair down on her shoulders. The only light in the room is now the candle light which dances and shimmers on everything in the room. Luke picks up the two crystal goblets of shine and meets his bride half way across the room. She takes the glass as Luke proposes a toast,†To my bride on her wedding night.†Dixie responds, “To the only man who can call me his. My husband.†A look of amazement comes over Luke as he realizes just what his bride has told him. “Dixie?†he pauses, “You mean you’ve waited all this time on me?†Tears swell in Dixie’s eyes as she answers in barely a whisper, “After you….. no one else . . . even interested me.†Tears threaten to fill Lukes eyes. He is at a loss for words, so he completes the toast with a clink of their glasses and a sip of shine. He now takes their glasses and places them on the near by table. He gazes deep into his brides eyes as she meets his gaze. He takes he into his arms and whispers, “This is much to long in coming Mrs. Duke.†***L-Z Landing Zone for a helicopter.
  14. "Daisy can you believe Vicki studing to be a nurse? I think it's great, but I know she has always loved her job as a Deputy." says Dixie. "I think its great too. Hazzard could sure use a nurse." replies Daisy. Thinking about Dixie's last statement she questions, "Just HOW do you know she loves being a Deputy?" As Debbie and Mary who had came up behind her heard Daisy's question that Dixie is about to answer, Debbie reminds, "See we leave you alone for a minute and you all start talking 'shop'. " They all are laughing at this as a two men dressed in Western attire approach the four women. The obvious leader of the two looks at Dixie and Daisy and says, "Excuse me Ladies but my friend and I were wondering if you'd share a dance with us? I'd also like the honor of buying your friends here a drink." Dixie, who has not been one to drink much of anything since leaving Hazzard, had drank just enough to start to loosen up a bit replies for them all, "We'd love to share this dance." He smiles at her getting the bar tenders attention and ordering Debbie and Mary's drinks. "Shall we?" he leads her to the dance floor as his friend and Daisy follow. Driving up to the Club in a Black 1999 4 door Clubcab, F-250 4 x 4 is Luke Duke and his fellow Smokejumpers. Handing the keys to the Valet as he steps from the truck, Luke is dressed in freshly shined Black Cowboys boots, well fitting Black jeans, a White dress shirt and string tie, with a Grey suede sports coat. His outfit is by far more stylish than the other five getting out in various Firefighting T-shirts, jeans, and boots but they are a handsome group none the less. Country music can be heard on the sidewalk. Jody smiles at Luke, "See we told you it had something for everyone." Luke says as they are passing through the line that is quickly moving, "Well, it may not be so bad after all." _______________ Any of you ladies who might want to try to catch Luke's friends attention feel free to use them for this story. They are Bugs, Randy, Jody, Johnny, and Mike. I'm sure they will be eager to meet you all -- Dixie
  15. I love the artical also! Thanks for posting it. Also, welcome to Hazzard! DixieDavenport
  16. Little Red Vicki congrats on the new job!! Thanks for the use of Vicki --- you all can use Dixie in this story to make conversation flow more easily. It has been years since Dixie has been in Hazzard and she may need introduced to some of the now regular Hazzardites and since I am fairly new here it helps me also. Dixie. Dasiy looks from Vicki to Dixie, surprised that they know each other. “You know each other?†she questions. Vicki gives her a look. Vicki had told Jack she worked in Hazzard but not what she did. Dixie catches the look. She had also promised not to talk shop tonight. “Well, let’s just say we’ve met at our respective jobs WHICH . . . â€, looking at her other friends, “I have sworn off as conversation tonight. It was good seeing you again Vicki.†Vicki gives her a thank you look, “You too, enjoy your night.†She says taking Jacks arm they head back into the crowd. Daisy says, “You two met at work? …. I want to hear the rest of this..†“Ok, but not tonight.†Dixie says. Knowing full well, that there is a lot she wants to talk to Daisy Duke about, but she also knows her friends will hold her to not talking about her ghosts from the past tonight. She will be content to maybe call Daisy tomorrow and have a long heart o heart talk. “Fair enough.†Replies Daisy. Just then the song “Good Old Rocky Top†begins to play. Daisy says, “This is one song we can all dance to with or without a partner. Come on you all!†Daisy, Dixie, Mary and Debbie all head to the floor and begin to really kick up their heels, which is getting a lot of male attention. Several miles away Luke Duke is getting out of the shower after a long day of fighting forest fires as a Senior Smoke Jumper for the Forestry Service when there is a loud knock at his door. Still dripping wet he wraps himself in just a towel and checks the door. Seeing several of his fellow Smoke Jumpers, he opens the door, and heads to get dressed. His partner, Bugs, says, “Luke, what are you doing tonight?†“Well, after I get dressed I planned on relaxing a bit.†Replied Luke. Randy smiled, “Good. We’ve got the perfect plan. Go with us.†“Where?†asked Luke. “To Atlanta! We’ve all got tomorrow off and want to check out that Club they have been talking about on the radio.†Exclaims Bugs. Luke, who is a bit older than the rest of the crew, asks, “Now why would you guys want me tagging along? Besides I like country music, not that stuff you all listen too.†The youngest of the bunch, Jody, speaks up, “No, you’ve got this place all wrong. They say they have everything from Oldies to Country, and Rap to Disco music. Kinda a something for everyone! Come on go with us. If for nothing else to keep us outa trouble.†“Oh, Ok. So now I’m a babysitter?†questions Luke. Randy jumps in, “No, it’s not like that. Let’s all just go let off some steam as a team.†Hearing the word team, Luke knows he’s been baited, as he always wants them to work as a team. There is no way he can get out of this, “Oh, alright. Give me about 15 minutes to get ready.†Back at the Club: Anyone else want to kick up there heels to Rocky Top come on out!
  17. Dixie walks up to Daisy's table and taps her lightly on the shoulder, "Daisy?" Daisy turns, it takes only a few seconds to recognize Cooter's younger sister, "DIXIE!!!" she exclaims. Standing to hug her friend she almost dumps the entire table over causing all eyes in the near area to turn to them. "What on Earth are you doing here?" "I think I could ask you the same thing!" Replies Dixie. "Well, there is about half of Hazzard County here tonight. Us girls decided to have a girls night out. From the looks of things I think some of the guys have gotten wind of it and followed us." States Daisy. Dixie laughs, "That's what some of my friends and I had arranged too." Daisy suggests, "Why don't you see if they want to come over and we'll have us a great night." Pausing, "I think there are some people you may remember, but there's a lot of new faces in Hazzard these days. Most are friends or our distant relatives who have wander back into good old Hazzard." Dixie replies, "That sounds so good. I've missed Hazzard. I'll get Mary and Debbie and be right over." Cue anyone who'd like to get to know Dixie and friends.
  18. In front of the club the Valet pulls out to park the Canary yellow Tracker. On the curb, three co-workers are dressed for a night out. A tall medium built but shapely brunette in black dress pants, white silk blouse, and heels, stands between her friends. The youngest of the trio says, “OK, ladies. Ground rules. Subjects that are off limits for tonight: Husbands…†The tiny older of the three adds, “Boyfriends…†Looking at her friends and wondering how she got talked into this, the brunette adds, “Work…†Both the other girls look at her and say together, “And any ghosts from the past!!!!†“Agreedâ€, they say together. The younger, says to the others, “Dixie, her are the keys to the Tracker. Now we all agree to take a cab back to your place tonight, right??†Dixie, replied as they move up in line, “Right, Mary, you both have a key incase we get separated. We’ll bring my car back tomorrow to pick up your ride so we can all let our hair down.†Debbie the oldest says, “Well, that’s what this evening is about Dixie. We’ve worked together all this time and have yet seen you relax. Besides, how are we going to get you to met someone if you don’t get out.†Entering the club doesn’t take long since the early rush to get end has calmed. They make their way to the bar. Mary and Debbie both order a fancy drink while Dixie orders a whiskey sour. Sipping their drinks as their eyes become accustomed to the lights, they decide to try to find a table. As they head for an open table, though it’s been years since being in Hazzard, Dixie could swear she heard a familiar voice between songs. Mary and Debbie are checking out the guys in the crowd. “Dixie, would you look at that gorgeous man over there.†Whispers Debbie nodding toward the dance floor. Dixie is scanning the room for the familiar voice that she thinks that she heard. Her eyes are now searching faces as she hears a familiar laugh coming from a table close by. She gets her first look at her high school friend Daisy Duke. She turns white as a ghost. Dixie had not really dated anyone since leaving Hazzard as a teenager. Her friends had spent weeks arranging for the three of them to get off work together. Then they had to talk her into going out with them in hopes of getting her to finally leave her past behind her and move on. Now, not ten feet away was none other than Daisy Duke, the cousin of the love of her life, Luke Duke. Debbie and Mary both noticed at the same time Dixie was not joining in the conversation. “Dixie….†Said Mary. “Earth to Dixie.†Debbie said waving her hand in front of Dixie’s face. Keeping her eyes still locked on Daisy, Dixie does realize she is being spoken too, “Ah,… guys I know this is probably off limits for discussion, but I think one of my ghosts just put on about a hundred pounds…†pausing, "I've got to go say 'Hello' to a high school friend." Dixie says as she quickly finishes her drink. Any resemblances to anyone living or dead are coincidental. This post is a ladies night out away from other posts involving Dixie Davenport, Cooters’ younger sister. If you’d like to use her please ask. Thanks.
  19. This is just a short section from Chapter 15 --- Hopefully to put you on the edge of your seats! Chapter 15 The Honeymoon! Unknown to Dixie, Luke had made reservations at the Hazzard Motel. However, not much is a secret in Hazzard so it didn't take long for the family to learn of Luke's plans. Luke was trying to keep it a secret where they were going for the night. Thanks to some help from Cooter, Bo and Daisy things were all ready for their arrival. While out running his errands, (picking up Jesse's finest from a secret location), Cooter had been sure to drop off some at the Motel. Bo also had been by to leave a tray of cheeses and crackers and candles. Daisy stopped by also, with roses and to check up on what the guys had done. She checked out the room approvingly, saying, "Maybe there's hope for them after all." She took one rose from the vase and placed it on the pillows. Back at the Boars Nest After Luke and Dixie were out of sight, all the family and friends headed back to the party. Coy, Vance, Jeb and the band began to play another set. Cooter, Bo, BJ, Daisy, Diane, Kathy and Callie took their seats at a large table listening to the band. During a break Jeb and the other approached the table. "Bo, do you remember any of the stories Jesse used to tell us?" asked Jeb. Bo with a questioning look said, "Sure, I do. Jesse has us told stories all our lives. Why do you ask now?" Jeb explain, "Well, there was the one he told about all him and his friends giving Luke's Dad and Mom a ***Shivaree on their wedding night." Bo got a silly grin on his face. Daisy replied with a squill, "OH, yes, I remember that story….JEB!!! You are not thinking???" He and the other guys (including Cooter who had also heard the story) got the same silly grin old Bo had. While BJ, Callie, Diane and the three waitresses waited for an explanation. Daisy seeing their questioning looks said, "Wait right here." She returned a few minutes later with Uncle Jesse. "Uncle Jesse will you tell us about the Shivaree you gave Luke's parents on their wedding night. Jesse smiled at the memory. "Well, we were a large family and very close much as our family is now. One by one we were marrying and starting our own families. By the time Luke's Dad married his Mother, all of us were old enough to participate in the fun. It was an old custom among some people that after the new couple left on their wedding night that the party would continue. Then in the late hours of the night the group would go to where the new couple was staying that night and give them kind of a mock serenade with pots, and pans, and all sorts of noise makers. The timing of this particular wedding couldn't have been more helpful. See we were all making and running shine and times were good. We had our runners and blocker cars all running like the General Lee. Of course, pretty much everyone in the Shivaree party had par took of some of the shine and were feeling good. It had already been arranged that my wife and I would stay at another brother's house this particular night to let the new couple stay at our house alone for their wedding night so it wasn't any secret their where abouts. So about 2 am all circled the house with engines roaring, horns blowing, shotguns firing into the air. We kept this up for quiet awhile until Luke's Dad, knowing about an extra shotgun that I had, came out and returned fire into to the air above our heads. Knowing my brother like I did though it didn't take us long to get out of there cause you all know Luke's temper and his father had one equal to it. We weren't sure just how long he'd fire into the air instead of us, but before we left, someone had managed to slip up to the house and leave a jug of shine on the front porch. It was getting daylight by the time we got home that morning. We all were in the dog houses with our wives who had left the party earlier when we dragged in at that time of night - well morning!" Jesse laughed! They all joined Jesse in his laughter. Jesse said, "You all AREN'T thinking what I think you are thinking are you???" They all smiled. Daisy asked innocently, "Will you help us?" Jesse smiled a playful smile, "The family that plays together…. " Bo gives a Ye - ha! Jesse says, "Now what we have to do is……") *** Shivaree (charivari) --For instance, one resident pointed out the old custom of holding a "charivari" for the newly wed couple. A 1911 Laird & Lees Webster's Dictionary defined this as "Wild tumult and uproar, produced by the beating of pans, blowing of horns etc., as a mock serenade to a newly married couple" or "French noun commonly called 'Shivaree' in this country. The actual practice of the custom ranged from this harmless custom of a noisy party to the 'kidnapping' of either or both bride and groom for as long as several days."
  20. I saw this listed on Yahoo Jan. 25, 2004. 21. Several hours later, Jesse's finest is long gone but the party is still in full swing. Everyone is having a good time. Luther and Carolyn have even danced a dance or two together. As they dance Luke asks Dixie, "Honey, are you about ready to leave this good company?" "Luke, this whole day has been like a dream. I don't' want this night to end, but yes, I'm ready to leave." She whispers. Luke smiles mischievously, "Good, but this night is far from being over with." Dixie blushes slightly, "Are we going to tell them or slip out?" she questions. "I think Daisy has something planned we'd better let them know." Luke replies. The couple says their good byes and heads out to the parking lot where everyone participated in pelting them with the rice bags Karen had made. Luke and Dixie run toward the General Lee to made their escape from the rice only to see that General Lee had been dressed up for the occasion. Balloons were tied to long strings attached to both sides of the hood and truck, to the radio and CB antennas, and the entire back seat was filled with helium balloons. Streamers had also been attached under the hood and trunk. So as not to hurt the paint job, white shoe polish had been taken to the inside of the back window saying "Just Married" and down the driver side of the windshield read "Luke" and the passenger side "Dixie". Luke took one look at the mighty racecar and shook his head, "Bo!" Bo is laughing so hard at his cousin's expression he can barely talk, "The General had to get into the spirit of things too!" Luke helps Dixie into the car moving balloons as she goes in. Luke also has to set some of the balloons free in order to get into the car. Once in the car Luke starts the General and hits the "Dixie" horn as he speeds out. A loud clanging noise is heard from in the car. Luke immediately lets his foot off the gas as he realizes it is just Hazzards version of "tin cans" tied to the bumper. He continues on down the road, followed by old chains, tail pipes, shoes and a few cans. After stopping a bit down the road to dump the noisemakers Luke states, "I'm not sure the General will forgive us!" Dixie laughs, "At least we had friends who know not to put shaving cream or shoe polish on car paint!" Luke agrees, "This is very true!" "So where are we heading?" asks Dixie. "It's a surprise for you and I hope they don't figure it out." Replies Luke. "Darlin you act like you don't trust our friends and family!" Dixie giggles. Luke states very matter of factly, "I don't!"
  22. New characters: Violet - The new manager of the Boars Nest. Carolyn - Dixie and Cooter's Mother Chapter 14 -- B A Time to Rejoice!! A short while later Cooter motions for Bo to come outside. Jill and Diane knowing what the pair are up to will try to keep everyone else from noticing they are gone. Bo goes to Jesse's pick up and returns with several bags. Cooter backs the wrecker up to the General Lee as BJ who saw them exit joins them. He quietly walks up behind Bo and says, "Need any help there, guys?" Bo nearly jumps out of his skin. "Oh,…. Shew…. BJ you took ten year off my life." "You sure move quietly there BJ! Yeah, we can use your help. We should be able to get done quicker with you helping. No telling when they will get the idea to leave." Bo says, "BJ start here with the balloons. Cooter has the helium tank on the wrecker. I'll take the shoe polish. Sorry, General old pal, but we won't do noting to hurt you. Cooter what are you doing?" "Let's just say I'm taking care of the tin cans!" As they are returning in to the Boars Nest they hear a rig approaching. BJ steps up on the side of the rig and tells Callie to pull around back. Callie, who had seen the General Lee all decorated, asked, "What's going on here?" BJ replied, "I told you there was a party going on. It's a wedding reception for some friends of mine. Remember me telling you about Luke Duke?" Callie looking a bit relieved and says, "Wasn't he in Vietnam with you?"as she follows BJ to the front on the Boars Nest where BJ introduces her to Bo and Cooter. After seeing BJ, Bo and Cooter return with Callie. Daisy announces it is time to cut the cake. Cooter being in charge of Jesse's finest pours the remainder into the two goblets for Daisy who places them near the cake. Luke and Dixie approach the table to cut the cake. They take the knife cutting the first two slices. Luke give Dixie a mischievous grin. She whispers, "Luke, do it and die now!" He replies, "What?" They both take the cake in hand to feed to the other. As they each take the first bit as the other shoves the remained of the cake just a bit so that they both end up with icing on their noses. Everyone including them laugh. After getting a bit cleaned up Dixie and Luke go up on to the bands stage for Dixie to through the bouquet. All the single females get up close to the stage while everyone else hangs back. Daisy being one of the hostesses is there but near the back being busy making sure things go just right. Dixie takes the bouquet and turns her back to the crowd and throws it landing right in Daisy's arms! Callie gives Daisy a dirty look which BJ sees. Cooter whispers to Luke, "I know there is no way you got her in to a dress let alone a garter so …." He hands Luke a blue garter purchased just for this purpose. Luke laughs. Now all the unmarried males are pushed and prodded good-naturedly toward the front on the room. Luke turns and tosses the garter hitting BJ square in the chest. At this point BJ and Daisy take some teasing all in good fun. Everyone is amused except Callie. As things quiet down a bit the music begins to play and Luther asks Dixie to dance with him. Luke in turn asks Dixie's mother to dance. BJ motions Daisy over to him and Callie. Approaching Daisy says, "I'm sorry. I kind of got tied up there." BJ says, "That's OK. I have someone I want you to meet. Callie this is Daisy Duke. Daisy this is Callie." Daisy speaking first, "I've heard a lot about you." "Wished I could say the same." Callie says in a low voice. BJ heard her reply, " Well, you'll get to know this whole bunch before the night is over."
  23. 8:00 pm at the Duke Farm "Luke honey, it's eight now you need to hurry." Says Dixie to the bathroom door as she brushes her hair. She returns to Daisy's room and puts on her socks then looks for her boots. After several minutes of looking she laughs and heads out the door into Luke's room. There she finds her boots and puts them on hurrying back to Daisy's room for last minute touch ups. There she meets her husband coming out of the bathroom in a towel. Luke smiles and reaches for her with the hand not holding the towel. Dixie reaches out with both hands to hold him off. "Luke at this rate they will be looking for us. Now get!" She laughs and reaches in her back pants pocket for her comb, holding it as if she plans to flip him with it. Luke turns so his back is towards his bedroom door and steps though it saying, "Now, now, Dear its been a long time since I've been in a comb battle with you!" Dixie gives an evil laugh and steps forward, only to be backed up by a wet towel being popped in her direction. "That's not fair! But in the interest of you getting ready, I'll let you win this one!" She exclaims and returns to Daisy's room. At the Boars Nest Everything is set and ready for the newlywed's arrival. Except for the few friends and relatives no one else is quiet sure of why the decorations. On the stage behind the equipment is a large sign reading "Congratulations!! Luke and Dixie". Other customers are just given a rice bag and asked to sign the unmarked page of the brides' book. Everyone is setting around talking and questioning the obvious hosts of the party as the General Lee is heard approaching the Boars Nest. Luke asks as he cuts the motor, "Do you think they need a warning we're here?" Dixie gives Luke an "its up to you look". "Well, we're only doing this…., uh…., twice so…" he says as he hits the General's Dixie horn. Then, being on her best behavior today, Dixie waits as Luke approaches her side of the car and helps her out the window. Hurriedly, Daisy and Karen and the others get the rice bowl and Brides book out of sight and the sign ready for their arrival. Everyone gets really quiet until they hear the door open. Luke and Dixie come into the doorway. Daisy whispers to Luke, "We haven't told them what's up." Luke smiles at her taking her hint. He announces to the filled bar of family and friends, "I'd like for you to meet someone really special to me….." He pauses for effect, he and Dixie look as if someone were suppose to have come in behind them. "I'd like you to meet a new arrival here in Hazzard….. " again he pauses. "Mrs. Luke Duke!" The entire place is in shock with the few exceptions that already knew. The cake is brought out onto a table as the guys bring out the Congratulations sign and the band begins playing George Straits' "You look so good in Love". No one has noticed the older but still very attractive woman come through the door behind the crowd. She takes in the scene. It is obvious she is at a wedding reception. When the song ends Uncle Jesse stands up and approaches the stage. He says, "Could I have everyone's attention for just a moment. As most of you all know, I have always said the chances of my boys here finding a bride, and having a family ranked right up there with hogs producing beef." He waits until the laughter stops, "Well, tonight I'm proud to say one of them has proved me wrong!" Again, waiting for it to quiet down, "I'd like for you all to join me in welcoming a new member to the Duke clan." As Daisy and Karen approach with trays of shot glasses, Cooter reaches behind the stage and picks up a clear gallon jug filled with Jesses' finest. Diane sends Cooter a questioning look - he gives her a "What?" look. "Now, Roscoe you just never mind where this came from and I figure if you all join in we won't have to worry about where the rest ends up." says Jesse. Diane approaches Uncle Jesse with 2 crystal goblets with ribbons that Bo had brought from home for this purpose. Jesse gives her a smile of approval and takes the goblets one by one and fills them passing one to Dixie and one to Luke. Then he fills the shot glasses as Daisy and Karen pass them out. When Daisy gets to Enos she goes behind the bar, gets a shot glass and fills it with buttermilk for him. "Ok, if everyone is ready," Jesse continues, "I have been saving this shine for this very purpose. As you know us Dukes don't have much left in this world except for each other. Through the years we've even lost a few of our own…. Luke, this should be my brother up here instead of me…but I hope I do him and you proud…" Jesse says as a tear of remembrance comes to his eye. "I was beginning to worry that if my predictions came true that we'd all just die out…But enough of the sadness. Dixie, you and Cooter have always been Dukes at heart, and now I want to officially welcome you to the family. Luke, I don't know what your plans are, but this is for the both of you." He pulls out an official looking document. "This is the deed to back 40 you have always loved. I wish you both the very best life can give! " Jesse concludes as he raises his glass in a toast. Luke and Dixie hug Jesse as he whispers to Luke, "It is yours, whether you live on it now or never." Luther approaches and takes Jesses' place, "Cooter how about refilling those glasses for me? I know there are a few of you in this room who remember… shall we say… the differences that Luke and I had years ago. I hope all that is water under the bridge now. I'd like to make a toast to my little girl and my new son-in-law." He says as he raises his glass. After the toast he hugs his daughter and shakes Luke's hand. The attractive older woman has made her way through the crowd unnoticed. At this point she causes everyone to listen as she says, "Luther, you old hypocrite! Any one in this room who remembers the past KNOWS this should have happened years ago!" Dixie exclaims, "MOM!!!… How on Earth? I have been so busy…." Her Mother takes her in her arms and hushes the rest of her sentence. "Luke, I have been wondering how long it would take you to get around to this. I've been looking for you to show back up in her life since she was 18! Congratulations! Now, it has been a long time since I've been to a party, Hazzard style, so let's get this one started!"
  24. New characters: Violet - The new manager of the Boars Nest. Carolyn - Dixie and Cooter's Mother Chapter 14 A Time to Rejoice!! Our newlyweds pull up to a deserted Duke farm. The only vehicle in site is BJ's rig. Luke say's, "Looks quiet here." He pulls the General Lee up to the back door and helps Dixie out her side. He takes her hand and they enter the kitchen door. "Hello????" calls Luke. There is no answer as Dixie spots the note on the table. "Luke." She says handing him the note. Luke unfolds the note, reads the short note and begins to laugh. "What?" Dixie asks curiously. Luke begins to read the note, "Luke and Dixie, Everyone has went to the Boars Nest to set up. I have a few errands to run, and then I will meet you all there. Enjoy your time alone together! Just don't make us come looking for you all. Everyone is expecting you by about 8:00. Congratulations, Uncle Jesse." Dixie laughs, "I can't think of a better present." Luke takes her in his arms and kisses her deeply while locking the kitchen door. At the Boars Nest: Daisy has talked to Boss's new manager, Violet, and has set up one side of the Boars Nest for the reception. This way no one will be excluded from the party but regular customers don't have to participate. Jeb, Coy and Vance are busy getting the bands equipment set up. Violet is happy with this arrangement as the band has agreed to play for free. Daisy and her waitress friends are decorating. Daisy calls to BJ who is helping the guys set up, "BJ would you mind running to the bakery and getting the cake? It should be ready and I need to finish this up." "Sure no problem. Do you want me to take your little helper there?" BJ asks. All eyes turn to see Bear wrapped in streamers. Daisy laughs and reaches to pick up Bear still wrapped in streamers. "Bear, you know I love ya, but BJ needs you to watch out for Rosco for him. OK?" Bear smiles and nods as BJ takes him from Daisy. "Come here silly boy!" says BJ as he takes the streamers off Bear. "Be back in a few minutes." He says giving Daisy a quick kiss. As BJ is going out the door one of the waitresses call out, "Hey, BJ telephone for you." BJ returns to the bar and answers the phone, "BJ McKay" "BJ, I just got into the Country Comfort and got your note. I tried the first number and there was no answer." Says the voice on the other end. BJ smiles, "Callie, if you're not in too big of a hurry or too tired, would you want to drive a little further?" "Sure, where to? What's up??" questions Callie. "It's a little place called Hazzard. I'll be here at the Boar's Nest. It isn't far after you cross the county line, believe me you can't miss it. I have some friends I who are having a party tonight and I'd like you to meet them." "Ok, I'll be on my shortly. See ya then." Replies Callie. BJ states, "Just watch yourself between there and here. You know you have to come through Bishop County." "You got it. But Cain is your friend NOT mine." replies Callie. "Yeah, but you don't want to meet him tonight either. Just be careful!" instructs BJ. He hangs up the phone, approaches Daisy, saying, "Well, I'm off to get the cake now. By the way, that was Callie; she will be here later. I hope its Ok that I invited her." "Sure, the more the merrier!" smiles Daisy. BJ says, "OK, then. I'll be back in a few." BJ takes Bear and gets into Jesse's pickup truck. Cooter's wrecker arrives with Cooter and Karen. Cooter parks and comes around to help Karen from her side of the truck. She hands him a bowl of bagged rice and picks up another one herself. "I sure hope there are enough of these to go around. " says Karen. Cooter replies, "Darlin' there are enough to go around the tri counties!" They enter the Boars Nest to find everyone in a frenzy of preparation. Cooter goes to Daisy and asks, "Where is Bo?" She looks at her watch to see it is near 6pm and says, "He should be here by now. He and Diane went to Ruebottoms to get the things to decorate the General Lee. And BJ should also be here soon." "Ok, I have a few things for the General myself, from the garage. Any sight of my sister?" Asks Cooter. Daisy looks skeptical at what Cooter may have to decorate the General Lee with form the garage. "Not since they radioed from your Dad's earlier. I think Uncle Jesse had a surprise for them at the farm himself, but he didn't give any details. Just said it would keep them occupied until about 8pm." Karen asks, "So what can do to help? I have a few rice bags made and several boxes extra in case that's not enough." Cooter shakes his head, "She has enough rice for every man, woman, and child in the tri county area!" They all laugh. Daisy says, "Get that small table and set it up with the rice and Brides Book near the door." Cooter says, "Well, it looks like you all have this under control. I have a mission of my own to take care of. " Daisy and Karen look at him questioning. "Never mind those looks. I'll explain later." He hugs Karen, gives her a quick kiss, and says, "I'll be back in a bit."
  25. Chapter 13 A Time to Hurt - A Time to Heal The General Lee pulls up to the Davenport farmhouse. Luke gets out and goes to the passenger side and helps Dixie out of the window. Luther comes back out onto the porch. Luke is taking the lead, approaching the porch. “Mr. Davenport we would like to have a talk with you.†States Luke. Luther states, “I had just been thinking the same thing.†Surprised, Luke and Dixie look from one to the other, wondering if someone had beaten them to the draw by telling him they had gotten married. Luke asks, “You had been?†Luther starts looking at Dixie, “Yes, I have been thinking about all the times we have missed out on, Dixie, because I so unreasonable. I have always loved you. I was just trying to keep you from getting hurt.†He kind of hangs his head, “I guess I ended up hurting you more by trying to protect you. I wanted so much to see you grow up and then I pushed you away.†He says as the lump in his throat stops him. Tears are filling Dixie’s eyes rapidly. She struggles to speak, “How would you feel about it if I told you I was planning on staying in Hazzard?†Luther looks surprised but says nothing. Luke can’t help himself and concludes her question, “As my wife.†Luther says, “Luke, you know I have never had anything personal against you. It was just that Dixie was sixteen. You were much older than her and then there was your reputation. I take it your planning a wedding? When is it going to be?†Luke laughs, “Looking back on the situation, I can’t really say I blame you. I would not want a sixteen year old daughter of mine, dating me either!†They all laugh. It is Dixie’s turn to rub a little salt in her Dad’s old wounds. She says, “As for the wedding, it was this morning.â€, as she hold up hers and Luke’s left hands. Luther looks surprised and then hurt. Dixie catches the look saying, “Daddy,†she had not called him this since she was sixteen, “Yes, we were married this morning, but we are planning on redoing our vows for all our families and friends in about a month.†Tears are clear in Luther’s eyes as he smiles at his daughter. “Dixie, it is good to hear you call me ‘Daddy’ again. Come here.†He holds open his arms and hugs his daughter for the first time since she was sixteen. They hold each other several minutes. When Dixie steps back it is obvious she had been crying. Luther looks at his son-in-law. Luke states, “I hope this won’t cause anymore hard feeling between us. I told you years ago that I loved Dixie and wanted to marry her. I also told you if I even got the opportunity after she turned eighteen I would be here knocking on your door.†Luther shakes his head up and down, “Looks like you were true to your word. Like I said, I was just afraid you’d hurt Dixie. You were older and I thought you were just after on thing.†Dixie blushes, as Luke laughs, “I started out being a “Big Brother†figure, then one day she walked into the garage and she was not a “Kid Sister†anymore. From that moment on I knew she was something really special. I had no intention of hurting her then, and I danged well don’t plan on it now. Besides, I not only wanted to marry her but marry her twice. I truly love Dixie and will do everything in my power to make her happy.†Luther replies, “That is good to hear. Just take care of her.†He says as he extends his hand. Luke accepts the handshake, “You can count on it!†exclaims Luke. Dixie smiles, “Now, I figure if we don’t call or radio the rest so they can get on with their plans for the reception; our names will be MUD!!†“I think you’re right.†Says Luke to Dixie. Then, to Luther, “You are going to come? They are looking for an excuse for a party at the Boars Nest tonight.†Luther smiles, “You all go ahead. I’ll be there.†Luke extends his hand, Luther smiles and excepts the hand shake. Before leaving Luther hugs Dixie and says, “Be happy.†Through tear filled eyes, she replies, “I am. Very happy!†Back at the Duke Farm: The CB base station comes to life. “Lost sheep one to lost sheep two…†Bo pushes his way though the living room to get to the mic in the kitchen, “Lost sheep two here.†â€The message has been delivered. You can let the cat out of the bag.†Luke laughs. It is Jesse turn the take the mic, “How was the message received?†Luke again laughing, “Much better than I expected. Plan on having one more there.†Jesse lets out a sigh of relief for the two newlyweds, “That’s good. Real good. The more the merrier! Shepard out.†Listening from a speed trap on the other side of the county Hazzard replacement Deputy Enos Strate hears this conversation. Even though he has no idea what it is about, he feels the need to let in Sheriff Rosco in on it. The way the Dukes were talking something HAD to be up.
