"They asked me why..." She said softly

Jaime sighed a little, one hand resting on her stomach, the other in Luke's hand. "I...told them I ran away with you...."

She softly squeezed his hand back, swallowing gently. "Not too bad...weak..."

Jaime swallowed and carefully blinked her eyes open, looking to him with a small smile.

The doctor led Luke to Jaime's ICU room and showed him in. Jaime lay looing smaller and paler than she had done before, hooked up to machines and tubes. Her eyes were closed.

After a while, the police left and Bo was allowed to return to Luke's side where they could do nothing but wait. Personally, Bo didn't see what the point was in waiting - the doctor has said it was unlikely Luke would be allowed to see Jaime anyway. But this was important to Luke and so he would stick by his cousin whatever he decided to do. After several more hours, the doctor came back. "Mr Duke...Jaime has asked to see you..."

Eventually, the police came into the waiting room, taking Bo away for his statement on what he knew and to conduct the interview with Luke so he could tell his side of the story.

But, sure enough, out of no where her voice rang back at him...even in mind speak she sounded weak. "Thank you...."

Swallowing, Bo put an arm around his cousins shoulders, squeezing gently. "It'll be ok..."

Bo swallowed softly and looked to Luke. "You okay?"

The doctor nodded and started to walk away.

"Sir, she is in safe hands here in the hospital. She's under constant surviellence..."

The doctor sighed "All I can do is look Jaime over, explain what I think to the social workers along with your statement, then from there its in their hands. Child Abuse is illegal Mr Duke...I have to take proper action..."

The doctor sighed and shook his head. "I don't recon that's illegal no....but I have to inform her legal guardian which is her mother...and if we bring her here, the police and social services can have a word with her..."

The doctor frowned deeply. "So you kidnapped her?"

Bo sighed and shook his head, reaching out and putting a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it softly.

"Luke you can't help how you feel...you had to tell her sometime...she'll get over it..." Bo said softly

Bo nodded a little "I know...s'okay..."

"Not quite Mr Duke...you see...I have reason to believe that Jaime is being abused at home...and as her father...I cannot let you in until you've spoken to the social workers..."] The doctor said solmnly. Bo swallowed, looking to Luke...wondering how he was about to get out of this one..

The doctor nodded. "She should be, barring any complications..."

Bo shook his head softly and patted his shoulder. "It's alright Luke..."

The doctor raised his hands to calm Luke down so he could get a word in. Bo put his hand on Luke's shoulder and squeezed softly, as the doctor started to speak. "Well she's up in the ICU for now...she lost a fair amount of blood and there was severe internal damage...luckily we managed to get her here in time before anything really problamatic occured. She's stable, but we're keeping her in the ICU for a while.."

Eventually, the doctor came out the double doors Luke had been keeping his eyes on for the past few hours.

Bo nodded gently with a small smile "I know ya are..."

Bo bit his lip, watching him pace before answering his question. "Luke...she got stabbed in the stomach...they's gonna have to be workin' on her long to make sure she's alright..."
