The nurse held the bucket close to Bo's face as he wretched again and again. There was no food in it...just acid... But suddenly with the acid came up something that gave her alarm. The young man was also alarmed and a little afraid at the sight he saw. She left she had to get a doctor, as she passed the deputy out in the hall he put an arm on her shoulder to stop her, "What is it?" He asked. "He's spitting up blood." ~She-Wolf -

Enos sprinted out to the phone as the nurse came in the room. He dialed the prison number, then asked for the medical extention. VVVVV The Duke family sat in silence for some time while they waited for Doc Walker to come back with the test results. Or for somebody to come in with any news on Bo. Suddenly, sombody stepped through the door, "Why didn't nobody tell me he woke up?" Cooter Davenport's grinning face met them. "How're ya feelin' buddyroe?" Luke nodded and smiled. Cooter took that as something was wrong. So he asked Uncle Jesse, "He alright?" The old man smiled, "Well...He can't talk much, but the doc says he's in otherwise perfect shape for sombody who's been passed out for four years." Cooter strode over to Luke and placed a hand on his shoulder. Luke warmly responded to the contact by putting his own hand on Cooter's. ~She-Wolf -

Luke knew it would take all kinds of work to get his family back together. And it might take a long time to heal those wounds. All he could be was grateful that he hadn't died. For all he knew that if his head wasn't as thick as it was Bo wouldn't just be doing 15 years for attempted murder, he'd be on death row. As it was he couldn't imagine the pain his family had gone through, it would have been horrible if they'd lost both him and Bo. Whatever...he knew what he had to do. He had to do whatever he could to heal his family. With god as his witness he'd make this better... ~She-Wolf -

The doctor working in the coma ward, Doc Walker, was a young female that had just finished her residency. She and Daisy had stricken up a friendship over the four years Daisy had been coming in to see Luke. "Obviously there was some brain damage. But to tell you the truth it's far better than I expected...honestly I never thought he'd wake up. Much less be in as good a shape as he is." "He can't talk," Daisy interupted. Walker glanced her way and continued, striding over to the light in the room. "Take a look at this," She held up an exray to the light. "That was Luke's head injury." Luke had had no idea it was that bad...it was a miracle he'd survived it seemed. Quickly sketching on a piece of paper in a semi-legible manner, 'Are those white things on the extray pieces of my skull in my brain?' Doc Walker nodded, "Yes I'm afraid so. You may not be able to talk just yet but you can say things correct?" Luke nodded, "Bo..." She smiled, "That's good...I'll get you scheduled for speech and arobic therapy." "When will he be well enough to go somewhere in the hospital in a wheelchair?" Uncle Jesse asked. "I'd like to run just a couple more tests. We should get the results within the hour and if everything checks out I think it's a good idea to get him moveing around as quickly as possible." ~She-Wolf -

When Bo awoke the lights hurt his eyes, he was nausious but it wasn't too bad, and he had a headache that made hangovers jealous. But the pain from the cramps was dull compared to what it was only a half hour ago. Enos was sitting on a chair at his bedside, leaning back and sleeping. Oh no...had his family's presense there just been a dream? "Enos?" He said gently, he was sure it came out sounding quite slurred, "Enos?" "Huh? What about cats havin' puppies!?" The deputy shouted as he jerked awake from an obviously abnormal dream. "Oh, hi Bo." He grinned that big goofy grin he always had, then frowned, "Are the painkillers workin'?" "Much better than it was before...Enos, was it a dream?" Bo asked sadly. "Was what a dream?" "My family? Bein' here?" Enos smiled wider if that was even possible, "No! No dream, they came after Luke woke up and uh..." Enos searched for the right words, "Communicated to them that what you did was an accident." ~She-Wolf -

Luke didn't pull away as Daisy grabbed his hand, a distant look in her eyes. He couldn't believe how his family had deteriorated. It didn't used to be this way. To him it felt like just yesterday but to her...to her it must have felt like an eternity since they were truly happy. It didn't take a brillient man to know what she needed. She needed comfort, she needed love. Just to let her know that even though she made a mistake they would still love her. He obliged and reached his other hand over to wipe her brown locks behind her ear then gently stroked her cheek. He knew what she was afraid of deep down, he reached his hand down to his pen and wrote on his notebook simple words she would need to hear: 'Bo will still love you.' ~She-Wolf -

Uncle Jesse answered his nefew's question, knowing what it was, "We don't know how he is...All we know is that he's havin' cramps, bad ones in his back, stomach and legs. They gave him morphine. We can just hope it works." Luke frowned, it was bad. They'd seen something that scared them. Or pained them. Daisy he knew was guilty because she felt it was her fault. Uncle Jesse probably had simular feelings. He hoped that was it. Of course the oldest Duke cousin couldn't ignore the idea they were keeping something from him. That Bo was sicker than they said he was. ~She-Wolf -
I don't mind his older stuff, but in most of his newer stuff he sounds like he's drunk while he's singing. Not in all of them, but in most of them. ~She-Wolf

Daisy looked down and saw the pieces of paper all over Luke's bed. The statement wasn't more than a paragraph, but it was all they would need. With any luck they could get a judge there before Bo even had to go back to prison. She spared a thought to hope that Michaels hadn't gone out on a limb for them. ~She-Wolf -
My art teacher said that certain images are not allowd in art. She mentioned the Nazi symbol, and just after that mentioned the confederate flag. Don't get me wrong she's a good person, just a little closed minded. Although it's kind of dumb because she said that if a Confederate flag was in your art then you were promoting slavery. Which is stupid because that isn't what the Civil War was really about. Yeah, that's what they tell you in kindergarden but that isn't how it is. It was about the South wanting to break away from the North due to various reasons including slavery, but the North wasn't doing it to liberate people, they were doing it to put the South in their place. Remember, it's the winners of war that write the history. ~She-Wolf

Luke wasn's sleeping, just closing his eyes. Thinking about Bo and what could be wrong with him. He had motioned to a nurse earlier to get a notebook and a piece of paper, she was smart and figured it out quickly enough. Since then he'd been practicing writing his statement. The first couple times it looked like total chicken scratch. Only after the 5th or so time did it actually begin to look legible. He'd always been a quick learner, or re-learner. After reading his statement, a judge would have to let Bo go. Talking wasn't going so good, and he was too weak to stand by himself, so a judge would have to come to him All he cared about was that Bo was set free and the horrible mistake was made right. Just then, Daisy and Uncle Jesse came through the door. he looked at them anxiously and scribbled on his notebook: "Is he alright?" Daisy read it and frowned, "He's in a lot of pain..." She looked stunned all through the sentence, withdrawn almost. Second later she perked up a little. "But doc Michaels arranged for a transfer to this hospital. When you're strong enough you can see him." Luke couldn't contain his grin. ~She-Wolf -

Bo was trapped in a world of pain, slipping in and out of conciousness from the constant pain. He wasn't even really sleeping, just passing out and awakening from time to time. VVVVV Daisy looked to the paramedic, "What is that?" She asked as the blond girl slipped a third needle into Bo's arm, above the bandages. "Morphine from what the doctor back there told us I figure he needs it." "And that'll help him?" "He'll feel kind of sick from the painkillers, but it shouldn't be any worse than a bad head-cold. It'll be better than what he's going through now." Daisy nodded and grasped Bo's hand tighter. Reminding herself that, no matter how bad they were they wouldn't kill him. Besides, they were putting him on morphine, and Luke would even be able to visit Bo. She didn't think they'd let Bo visit Luke but if Luke said he wanted to visit Bo she didn't think they could stop him. There was no law against visiting you're "attacker". ~She-Wolf -

"Take the cuffs off," Michaels ordered. "I don't want him pulling open the wounds." The guard looked at him puzzled, "But doc, regulation-" "That's why I have a fantastic medical reason." The guard strode over and unlocked Bo's wrists. "Okay," Michaels ordered, "We'll have to get him to the courtyard, the ambulance can't go any farther. I'll need you to help me lift him onto the gourney, and help me move him to the courtyard." He walked over to Bo just to make sure he was stable enough to travel, he couldn't do a full body workover like he'd wanted. All he did was check the vitals, heart rate was abnormally fast, which wasn't a suprise from the pain Bo was in. Bo could breathe on his own, also good. Not a good sign that he was unconcious but that was because of the pain and not a nerological disorder. He was gratefull for how quickly they all moved. Being sure that if the warden caught him doing this he'd be fired before he could help the boy. The warden would also be getting back from lunch soon and find the small scrap of paper Michaels had slipped under the door. Regulation required he get the Warden's approval. He got past the security guards with ease. When they finally got out to the courtyard the ambulance was awaiting them. Michaels told them what Bo's problem was and what they would do about it on the way to the hospital. Only the girl, Daisy, and their uncle rode in the ambulance with the paramedics. There was some discussion about how they weren't really immediate family, but that was quickly abolished by Jesse. Enos walked over too him, "Hey Doc...I just wanted to thank you for doing this...are you sure you won't get in trouble or nothin'?" "No, I won't get in trouble," He lied, then added truthfully, "And no need to thank me, it's why I became a doctor." Enos smiled and ran out to his car, while Michaels sighed. Time to stop by his job and get fired. ~She-Wolf -

The arrangments for the transfer took some time. Although what normally would have taken four hours Michaels managed it in two. The fact he'd done residency there and had a couple people who owed him favors. It was true he liked his job, that was true. His father had been sent to prison because of a mistake; at least that's what his mother had always told him. It wasn't much really, a three and a half year sentence. They still had lots to look forward to as a family. That was until a prison riot took his father's life. A baton from one of the guards had shattered the skull, resulting in a massive subdural himatoma: massive bleeding from the brain between the brain and the skull. His father had died in prison. From what he could tell it was no fault of the doctor working there, but he always found himself wanting to keep simular things from happening to other people. Cases like Beaureguard Duke were why he was a doctor, and why he'd taken the path he had. Looking at the boy's family reminded him of himself and his mother in a way. His job was worth families like that getting their loved one back. ~She-Wolf -

Michaels remained quiet, thinking. "Doc!?" Enos said inpatiently. Well, the boy wasn't dangerous from what Michaels could gather. But the administration would throw a hissy fit if they knew he'd sent the boy to the same hospital his "victim" resided in. Nonetheless, he'd heard about a doctor in New Jersey who took a man charged with four counts of first degree murder to a teaching hospital based on the fact that they had better resources there. He could make a simular claim, that Beaureguard needed treatment that he couldn't offer due to the rules and regulations of a prison system. It was a reason, a good one, but chances were pretty good he'd lose his job for this. As another scream tore through the room he knew it was worth it; the pain alone would kill the boy. Finally he nodded, "I'll arrange for the transfer immdiatly..." ~She-Wolf -

"Can't you give him a sedative or something?" Enos asked Michaels. "A sedative wouldn't do much good, he'd still be in pain, he'd only be asleep." Michaels places his hands on his desk, trying to think of something to take the boy's pain away. He couldn't carry painkillers, some of the inmates were there because they were junkies and they didn't want to give them any reason to break out to get them. But as a doctor, it pained him to see his patient like that. Another scream filled the room. And Mihaels flinched. He knew the cramps would persist for at least another twenty four hours. At least. They could go on longer... But there had to be something he could do? ~She-Wolf -

It took a lot for Uncle Jesse to bear seeing his youngest like that. Bo was in pain, both physical and emotional. He'd frankly won the whipping boy jackpot. "Bo, don't talk about it like that, he's forgivin' you for everything. The first thing he tried to do was ask how you were." Bo's face suddenly twisted in pain, the cramps seemed to be getting worse instead of better, "Ah. It hurts..." "It hurts, Bo, doc says it will hurt for a while." "...Fantastic." Well, on the bright side he was retaining a bit of his old sense of humor. ~She-Wolf -

"Take it easy." Uncle Jesse said softly, pained to see his youngest writhing in all kinds of pain, "He's awake, but the doc want to run some more tests and get his strength up before he can come and visit. But now he can testify...you won't have to stay here much longer." Bo sank back into his bed, a big grin on his face, "I'm glad...I'm glad he's awake...Y'know, when Enos told me there was a good chance Luke wouldn't wake up, I lost anything resembling hope." Bo broke off in a pained laugh, "I recon I underestimated that thick head of his, eh?" Uncle Jesse grinned, he was sorry for how he'd treated his youngest, deeply so. All doubt of Bo's innocence vanished, Bo was purely happy that Luke was awake. He had never intended for anything to happen. ~She-Wolf -

Enos grinned that big, goofy grin he was so famous for. "Possum on a gum bush! That's fantastic." Wow, things were finally looking up for Bo. And it actually looked like everything was going to be alright. Amazing, considering that just the night before Enos had been fighting for Bo's life. And how just that morning Bo had been forsaking all hope. His friend had been on the verge of surrender of a final kind. They might even have a chance at what they had before. "Enos," Daisy asked. "Yeah, Daisy?" She leaned over and planted a delicate kiss on his cheek, "Thank you, thank you for everything." ~She-Wolf -

Bo frowned but nodded, "Sure." As the guard slapped the cuffs back on and walked back out the door, the pain in is wrists skyrocketed. But it didn't matter anymore. His family believed him. "It's alright Bo...you won't have to deal with this much longer." "Yeah, I have parole coming up next year." His Uncle Jesse frowned, "Didn't you hear a word I told you? Luke told us that's why we're here! He's awake." VVVVV As Daisy and Enos were in the hall leading to the infirmiry, she leaned on him. Incredibly grateful for the support he'd offered her. No, forget the support he'd offered her, but the support he'd offered all of them, especially Bo. They were extremely lucky to have a friend like him. A shout came from up ahead. They exchanged glances and Enos looked worried for a second. Daisy smiled, "I guess Bo just found out Luke woke up." ~She-Wolf -

She looked up at him, the tears still fell but she wasn't sobbing uncontrollably. Enos didn't know if she was trying to guage whether he was lying or not. "I can't face him Enos...I can't look at him without knowing I'm responsible for how he is." Enos frowned, this was the roughest day of his life. He tried to remind himself that Bo was having a much harder time. But there was no denying the last twenty four hours had taken their toll on him as well. In the last day he'd witnessed more suffering than he had in his entire life. "Daisy," He'd also had to give more motivational speeches then he had in his entire life. "You made a mistake...you're only human. The important thing is that you do all you can for him now." ~She-Wolf -
