Lily laid a hand on his arm "I believe that honey, but don't get hurt in the process." she begged. -
Jake looked confused "Who's Boss?" he asked. Lily suddenly realized what she'd said "Sorry about that, you see Boss is like Jason's granddaddy or something. With that being said he is a hundred percent up to no good."

"What is it?" Jake asked, his voice full of compassion.

Jake looked to her as he couldn't see that she'd be upset "You excited about something honey?" he asked.

Lily nodded "Evidently. Well come on, if mom's making food we'd better hurry or others will have finished it all by the time we get to even look at it." Jake nodded and the two took his truck back to the farm.

Lily nodded "I can tell since she called you 'son'" Lily thought for a second "You know I don't think I've ever heard her call anybody that."

Daisy grinned. She liked him the more she got to know him "All right son. I'll head on and y'all come on when you can."

Daisy nodded "Y'all wanna come on to the house and I'll give y'all some good food?" she asked.

Daisy nodded, bitting her lip to try and hide the tears slowly leaking from her eyes. This was the first and only boy she'd ever seen care about her daughter and he seemed serious.

Daisy smiled "I can tell you care for Lily and I am allowing you to see her."

Jake smiled and, despite what his mind may have told him, leaned over and gave her a kiss, while hugging her close. When he pulled away enough he said "She'd be right. Nobody's ever understood me the way you do."

Lily nodded "I'm glad. . .mama. . .I think I'm honestly in love with Jake."

Lily smiled "You really think so?" Daisy, who of course had been somewhat hiding from her daughter's knowledge and walked over. "Do you approve of him mama? What about daddy?"

Lily smiled "I don't know how mama feels about you, but Jake, I can honestly say that I've never connected with anyone the way I do with you."

Lily nodded "The same way I feel about my parents. My mom loved me I never had a doubt, but my dad. . .It doesn't take a genious to figure that one out."

Lily had a thoughtful turn to her expression "Well I mean . . .do you feel like they rally love you. . .unlike your father."

Lily in turn hugged him closer "Jake, do ou feel that about. . .whoever it is who has you?"

Lily nodded, secretl hoping Daisy overheard her "They do and I honestly have never found love before they adopted me. . .these people are everything to me." she said before breaking down.

Lily nodded "More than you know." she looked over to where Daisy sat "And I'll admitt that I probably haven't been as greateful to them as I probably could be."

Lily nodded "Know, I did that too when my daddy killed the rest of my family. I'm adopted by these nice people."

Lily nodded "I reckon I could've gotten by without asking that, but. . ." she shook her head "So what happened after he left?"

Lily's eyes coulded in worry "That's all? Did he hit your or something before he did?" she asked.

Lily nodded, letting it sink in as Jake told her "How'd you stop him?" she asked, not believeing anyone could be so cruel to their kid.

Daisy smiled ever so slightly "Well then I'll let you two talk. If Jake ever wants to tell me I'll leave it to him." she said and walked off toward the Jeep.

Lily nodded "I understand. It's awful private to you ain't it?" she patted his arm, stroking his cheek "It must be awful if you'd rather not say it in front of my mom."
