Andrew D Charger Chaser
Anyone know where one could acquire a reasonable copy of Rosco's hat? Ain't as simple as just getting a cowboy hat....got one of those already, and as I live in the Southwest in the middle of cowboy country, there are a plethora of styles to choose from. I just have no idea what to ask for or where to look....
HossC
Looking at pictures of Rosco (I did a Google image search for rosco p coltrane hat), it appears that the hat design varied throughout the show's run. They all share certain characteristics: black, felt, upward curving sides, but some are noticeably more pointed at the front than others. Additionally, different designs for the band can be seen. Is it possible to pick your favorite design, print it out and take to a hat store? Alternatively, several online stores show different hat styles, so maybe you can find the right shape there. Wakko
Felt hats can easily be reshaped as well, though I recommend you have a professional do it.
Meadowmufn
My husband is a bit of a Rosco hat expert. He's done extensive research and bought/shaped his own. Your best bet is a Stetson (which can get pricey), but I'll ask him if he knows what models.

Meadowmufn
My husband says Jimmie wore Stetsons and Resistols, but he's not sure on the models. The crowns back then were a higher style than today, so your best bet is to look for vintage hats on eBay or something.

I had started looking at Stetsons after your earlier post and hadn't liked anything I'd found, but the Resistols really look the part! Andrew D Charger Chaser
Ok, got a nice Resistol at a decent price under guidance of a local hatter (Arizona still has good hat stores!). Then I had same hat shop shape it to his unique twist. Looks great, thanks for the pointers everyone!
