More Tom and John Concerts 2012

Featured Replies

In this casual, behind-the-scenes interview published May 2nd, Tom Wopat talks about his formative years at the music program of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also spills the beans about the plans to do some casino concert gigs with John, and possibly do an album together.

Tom also talks about his home state a bit. I dunno about ya'll, but I think it's way cool that a Dukes of Hazzard cast member actually owns a farm.

I would totally buy the album. And if the casino opens in Cincinnatti before they plan out everything, I would totally go. This for me right now are getting me all hyped up. So much cool news of posible things. I could explode. It all getting me ready for my band contest tomorrow. It's state contest witch is a big deal.

Well now, we have a few casino's here too, and if I had the money, I would so go... but... I'm flat out broke.

If they do an album together, which would be so freakin' cool, I would so buy it, especially if it's country... erm... as soon as I got the money. :)

I did not know Tom owned a farm. Very interesting. I wonder what state it's in. It would be so cool to live in the same state! Unfortunately Delaware is too small for that to realistically happen, but still, it would be so cool!

If you had a farm in Delaware, there wouldn't be room for anything else.

If you watch the video, you'll figure out his home state. Heck, if you read the post you can probably figure out his home state. That's where the family farm is that he now owns. One clue: MOOO!

I shared that video interview on Tom's FB page and I couldn't help teasing him a bit, since he said he's 60 now and still has the family farm. I'm like, "Dude! You're your own Uncle Jesse!" Heh heh.

Ah, so it's the family farm. I know what state that is in.

I bet I know why you find it's so cool that he owns a farm... it's a hop, skip, and jump from where you live ;) or at least in the same state.

And Delaware does have several farms, thank you very much!

I finally remembered to watch the interview that Brian posted (thanks for the link, Brian). Just over halfway through Tom mentions that he does 'Trouble' from 'The Music Man' as a duet with John. For those of you that don't know, the movie version of 'The Music Man' was filmed in Hazzard Square, aka. Warner Bros' Midwest Street. Here's a screengrab from just before

starts; on the left is the River City Bank (Boss's Bank), Jim Griffith's is where the barbers shop was, Ewart Dunlop (Staple and Fancy Groceries) takes the place of the Hazzard Theatre and finally the pool hall that causes all the 'Trouble' would become the pharmacy. The County Building, church and other familiar stores are also visible during the song.

I suppose that passionate discussion about cheese a few months back was sort of a giveaway.

Anyhow, I was glad to know Tom owns the family farm, because he left home fairly young, and had this whirlwind success early in his career. He's lived in TN, NY, and who knows where else. It's good to know he hasn't forgotten his roots.

Delaware had 2,400 farms as of 2002, but post-recession I'm afraid that number has shrank like it has in many states. Looks like ya'll are heavy on the soybeans.

That's a fun coincidence, ain't it? Good info Hoss!

Ya know, I think Tom and John should put together thier own Broadway musical based on The Dukes of Hazzard. (Let's see if I can speak that one into existence! Heh heh.) Not sure how you'd pull off a car chase in a musical, though.

That would be an interesting experiense. And it would take some very creative minds to figure the car chases out.

Who knows, if Dukes had been made a few years later we may have had a musical episode like they did with 'Buffy' and 'Scrubs'.

I was originally going to go down the road of rewriting a well-known song from a musical, but Duke-ifying it eg. starting with the song 'Trouble' from 'The Music Man':

Trouble with a capital "T"

And that rhymes with "B" and that stands for Boss!

Then I thought it would be fun to try and match existing songs from musicals to Dukes characters. Here's some suggestions to get you started - maybe together we can make 'Dukes: The Musical' :):

Uncle Jesse (while plowing the back 40)

If I Were a Rich Man (Fiddler on the Roof)

Boss

Food, Glorious Food (Oliver)

Enos (about Daisy)

Hopelessly Devoted to You (Grease)

Bo and Luke

Anything You Can Do (Annie Get Your Gun)

Daisy (to Bo and Luke)

Goin' Courtin' (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers)

Emery Potter

Get Me to the Church on Time (My Fair Lady)

I was a bit stuck for Cooter (I'm sure someone can think of something better), so I went with

Can We Fix It? (Bob the Builder)

Not strictly a musical, granted, but he was using the phrase "Yes we can" years before Mr Obama!

That would have been so cool to see how that would have worked out. I'm slowly watching Buffy and I'm waiting for that episode to come on.

And I laughed when I read the song you chose for Cooter. It's so funny. I use to watch it and I still remember the song. I think it would work because Cooter can fix anything and do about anything.

Soybeans are more downstate Brian. Upstate... er... well it's not really upstate LOL Upstate is north of the C and D canal and downstate is below it, I guess I should say the southern half of my county... but the southern half of my county, it's more wheat and corn. Also, there are quite a few peach orchards in the other two counties. Peaches used to be a rather large cash crop for us... Yes, Delaware has only 3 counties.

and brian, it wasn't the cheese conversation which told me where you lived. If you recall many, many, MANY moons ago, you did tell me.... when we used to talk on AIM before I developed a terminal case of the stupids.... which I am still apologetic for. ;)
