Your character's playlist...

Recommended Posts

A while ago I posted the idea that certain songs attached to different fanfiction stories, to set the mood.

As I always to listen to music while writing, I always find myself listening to the same dozen or so songs for certain characters, to set myself my mindset to that character.

I'm curious if anyone does the same, and include your character's list of songs. I realize songs change with the character, but it's like a snapshot into the character's head.

Chance "Doc" Walker (interesting mix of country and rock)

Devil Woman

I've Got a Rock 'N' Roll Heart

Desert Rose (with Cheb Mami)

Rock You Like a Hurricane

Sweet Southern Comfort

Who says you can't go home

Bless The Broken Road

This Is How A Heart Breaks

When Doves Cry

Lovin' Every Minute Of It

Rain on the Scarecrow

The Red Strokes

Brown Eyed Handsome Man

Ragdoll

Ooo, interesting thread!

I listen to music too when I write, tho' more often than not I have a soundtrack for a paticular story, as opposed to a soundtrack or playlist for a paticular character. Often the soundtrack will have a song that fits a character...within the context of the story.

The most recent story I completed, Southern Cross: Crossfire had the following selections...

Crossfire

Tightrope

Rough Boy

Rainy Night in Georgia

It's in the Way That You Use It

Captain of Her Heart

Touch and Go

Eminence Front

That's the Way a Cowboy Rocks 'n Rolls

Fire (Arthur Brown. "I am the God of Hellfire! And I bring you..." LOL)

Some songs fit the story (some are actually IN the story, "Rainy Night in Georgia" and Arthur Brown's "Fire.") Others were just good background music to write to, put me a zone.

This list is for some stories from about a decade ago!

Leather & Lace (This was written for Waylon Jennings & Jessi Colter)

Six Days On The Road

All I Can Do Is Write About It

Life's Been Good

Don't Ask Me No Questions

Runnin' Down A Dream

Travelin' Man

Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You

Roll with the Changes

The South's Gonna Do It Again

Some very rarely listen to anymore except the Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes.

Good topic!

Good topic Doc! I'd have to say that Val's playlist is varied. I can't place a certain genre of music for her. However I have the songs all lined up for her.

Hell on the Heart - Eric Church

Green Grass and High Tides - The Outlaws

Go to the Woods - Dar Williams

The Climb - Miley Cyrus

I Saw God Today - George Strait

Walk on Water - Britt Nicole

What Faith Can Do - Kutless

Famous in a Small Town - Miranda Lambert

She Took it Like a Man - Confederate Railroad

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - Miranda Lambert

If Today Was Your Last Day - Nickleback

If I Die Young - The Band Perry

Interesting mix I think that she's choosen, but it says a lot about her.

I have to agree this is a good topic, though can't exactly pin an exact song that Garrett seems to like or suits him best. Generally it is the entire CD playing.

Kutless- Strong Tower CD

Kenny Chesney - No shoes, No Shirt, No Problem CD ...or any of his Greatest Hits CD

Keith Urban - Golden Road CD - Greatest Hits

Toby Keith - Greatest Hits One and two

Tim McGraw - Greatest Hits 2

Dwight Yoakam - his latest Greatest Hits album

Waylon Jennings - any of his hits CDs that I have

As it looks a lot of Greatest Hits from favorite artists with well played song or well known songs on them. Either Christian or Country.

I know this thread is old, but I like it :)

I do the playlist for each story, too, and then I usually put it on my USB drive and listen to it in the car (and drive my hubby nuts 'cause he wants to know why I keep listening to the same songs over and over again, and I'd never live it down if I told him I was listening to my fanfic playlist, lol). I have a pretty wide range of music I listen to and most of the time a certain song will fit with a certain chapter or theme in the story, not necessarily the entire fanfic.

For my fanfic "Beneath a Hazzard Moon", the songs I listened to the most were:

Body Parts - Plain White T's

I will write you a song - Plain White T's

In My Time of Need - Opeth

Hope Leaves - Opeth

Rainy Night in Georgia - Brooke Benton

I will Remember You - Sarah McLachlan

What About Now? - Chris Daughtry

Seven Bridges Road - Eagles

Country Roads - John Denver

Breathe Into Me - Red

When You Were Mine - Saigon Kick

For my fanfic, "The Story of Us", they are:

When You're Next to Me - from "A Mighty Wind"

Someday Never Comes - CCR

Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks

Home - Chris Daughtry

Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Good-bye - Night Ranger

Silver Road - Sarah Harmer

The Other Side of the Door - Taylor Swift

Death Whispered a Lullaby- Opeth

And, of course, since both stories are Enos/Daisy stories I can't leave out "Dear Daisy" and "Back in Hazzard" by Sonny Shroyer. ;)
