Great Utterances from Rosco P. Coltrane
lost_sheep3 replied to Brian Coltrane's topic in James Best / Rosco P. Coltrane
"I got 'em, this time I really got 'em!" -
I primarily listen to country, but also love 70's/80's classic rock and even classical on occasion. I will listen to just about anything, except Rap... LS3

Yes, the comedic scenes between Sorrell Booke and James Best are some of the best moments on TV. I also liked "Too Many Roscos", I think that episode was one of the greatest for showcasing James Best's talent. LS3

I couldn't agree more! And, keep in mind that Brian only deleted a thread, I have been on other boards where members were outright banned for less... LS3

Who is really looking forward to this film?

EvilErnie13 - if you're referring to the "hot-water heater" that is really pot. If anything this episode shows why drugs should not be part of the Duke's universe. They never used the stuff, and they never sold the stuff. Unless you're seeing something in the episode that I missed. Again the whole "Duke's and Drugs issue" is not that there is mention of drugs in the movie (if indeed there is), but that drugs should not be used, under any circumstances, by any member of the Duke family. How would you guys make this film better?

Dale - You have some great ideas, a movie like that is something I would definitely like to take part in. The lack of ideals, morals and ethics in the media today is exactly why this movie should have been filmed with more of the ideals of the TV show. I couldn't agree more, Brian! LS3 -
Crazy C, I agree with this statement, but you also said that "DOH is the only show where the car is the star"...I have to disagree with that...I don't think that the General is the star of the show. I think that the orange charger, like the rest of the "main" cast was part of the ensemble that were the stars of the show. If the General were the true star of the show, Coy and Vance would have had a better reception because people would have been watching for just the General (and personally I am thrilled that Bo and Luke came back). As for KITT in KR...I think that KITT and David Hasselhoff were co-stars, I know I personally watched for one as much as the other.... LS3

OK, I'll bite... If I were to get the rights to the film, I would have had a few fanfic writers (MaryAnne, Brian Coltrane, etc) write the script because they have a very good understanding of the original and how Hazzard works. I would have gotten realtively unknown actors for the Duke Cousins and Cooter. I would have had well-known actors for Uncle Jesse, Boss and Rosco (ie. Willie Nelson and Burt Reynolds). I don't know names of directors all that well, but I would have had someone who had a great deal of respect for the original cast and show. And I would have headed back to Georgia to film. Most importantly, I would have looked to the original cast and crew for input on the movie (and they would have been welcome to be in the movie if they wanted to). And I would have looked to message boards like this one for input into the direction the movie would go. I don't think anyone on this board started out "moaning" about the movie, I think most of us were initially really excited about seeing the "high flying" Dukes on the big screen (I still can't wait to see a big-screen General jump!), but what we are concerned about is that it appears that the writers, directors, cast, etc., of the new movie totally disregarded all elements of the original series. If the movie was created by fans (or if John Schneider had gotten the rights when he wanted them to) I think we would have seen a movie that would have been a tribute to the original, rather than what will apparently be a parody. LS3 -
Most of the reviews indicate or imply that the Duke boys are on drugs, and one of the aintitcool reviews indicate that Uncle Jesse smoked pot in one of the scenes, Dale the Bold posted on another thread that the mention of Jesse smoking pot may be a hoax. I think most of us don't care what people do in their personal lives, personally, I was hoping that Willie would be a part of the movie in some way or another from the beginning, he is one of the few country music icons that is still out there performing from the same era as Waylon Jennings. What I do care about is how the characters behave in the movie...I have a great deal of respect for the actors who originally played these characters. Perhaps I wouldn't feel as strongly if this was to be a "Dukes: the next Generation" type movie and they had changed the characters names and made them decendants or other family of the originals. I really hope that this was a hoax...then again, I'm no longer sure what to believe. Is there any chance that the whole "stoner Duke's" thing is a hoax too? I just can't see any of the Duke's doing any type of drugs...even something as supposedly harmless as pot (and if you believe it's harmless, I'll sell you some swamp land in Arizona). Going back to the comment about Uncle Jesse, you're right, the fact that he was a fictional character is irrelevant. What is relevant is what Jesse, and the whole Duke's family stood for. I am still planning to see this movie (just because I'm a huge pessimist doesn't mean I won't watch it), and I'll try to keep an open mind... -
I agree with you completely! I wish we (as fans) had been given the rights to this movie, we would have done a much better job than what the reviews are suggesting has been done. I also agree that drug use is not funny...as I said in another post, Uncle Jesse would never have condoned drug use, much less used drugs himself. I feel bad for the original "Dukes" actors who have to see what BL is making of a show that they put 7 years of heart and soul into. I shudder to imagine what Sorrel or Denver would have thought of this... LS3

Bama, this might be your preference, but it doesn't fit with the Dukes. Moonshine was part of the family tradition, and it's a part of Southern heritage. Pot is neither of those things. The original Uncle Jesse would never have condoned the use of pot or any other drug LS3 -
I agree with you Dale the Bold, I've been reading all the reviews (most of which just annoy me, but I can't stop myself) and it sounds like they are making Jesse a pot-head....which goes against EVERYTHING the Dukes ever taught. I wasn't expecting an exact remake of the original, but I expected at least some of the same ideas. LS3

The song was "Y'all Come". Unfortunately, I'm having trouble locating the lyrics. The great thing about that (if you watch on DVD) is that it seemed so natural. I remember reading somewhere (or hearing somewhere, not sure which) that they would do those scenes on the last day of shooting and then have the wrap party for that episode. When you watch the DVD they show a lot more of the singing, and it really looks like the whole cast is having a great time (even if they flub a few of the words). LS3

Moonrunners Vs. The 2005 Dukes Movie
lost_sheep3 replied to EvilErnie13's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
Dale the Bold, Unfortunately, I tend to agree with you, and what seems worse, from everything I've read, is that Broken Lizard doesn't seem to realize what they are doing. I could handle intentional parody (on the order of last years Starsky and Hutch), but it seems that Broken Lizard has no idea that what it is doing is disrespectful (to my way of thinking). LS3 -
Premiere magazine "Summer Movie Preveiew DOH"
lost_sheep3 replied to dukesran1's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
Dukeran, do you have a link to the article? Thanks, LS3 -
Sam, One of the great things about HazzardNet is that we are all allowed to form our own opinions. Yes, we all want more info about the film, however, a lot of us (including myself) are really concerned that this movie is going to stray so far from the original that if it weren't for the General, it wouldn't be recognizable as the Dukes of Hazzard. Unfortunately, it seems that the people charged with bringing our favorite show to the big screen do not hold the same high regard and respect for the original cast and show that HazzardNet users do. I'm with Divia, I want to like the movie, but so far I'm not seeing much in the reviews to suggest I will. A few weeks ago, I was thinking along the same lines as Traveler "let's just all calm down, at least they're making the movie", but now, since seeing some of the reviews of the trailer, I'm just not sure. I'll still see it (I'd probably see just about anything that referenced DOH in the title), and I will try to have an open mind, but I sudder to think that even half of what the reviewer in the above link says is true. Thank you for posting this - frankly, the more I read these, the less inclined I am to watch the movie.... I mean come on - did the people writing this even watch 3 hours of Dukes? I won't say more, in case anyone stops where it says "spoilers ahead", but I seriously doubt that anyone associated with writing this movie watched even 1 episode of the original. Yes, Starsky and Hutch was different than the original and I loved the movie (but then again, I really liked Wilson & Stiller as Hutch and Starsky), but DOH is different, S&H was a fairly recent (within the past 4 years) show for me, I've watched DOH since day one, and I don't like a lot of the things that I am reading that they are doing with these characters. I have a huge respect for the cast of the original DOH, yes, some of the writing was not the finest on TV, but the cast took it and made it great despite that. I had hopes that this movie would bring newcomers to the original, but I'm afraid that after reading that, if anything, newcomers won't want to see the original, because the movie sounds like it is so far removed. It sounds almost as if anyone who likes the new movie will take one look at the original and not like it because it is too clean and wholesome (innuendo aside) and those that like the original will not like the movie because it is too far removed from what DOH should be. I'm still hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised, but as of right now, I'm looking forward more to Season 3 coming out, than I am to the new movie. Thanks for listening to my rant. LS3

MaryAnne, I hope you have a terrific birthday! LS3

I don't remember the episode either, but I think that this was tongue in cheek and was a signal to the rest of the group that her part of the plan was ready. LS3

Thank you for the link. I appreciated the link, but I too wish that they would ;eave out some of the blatant sexual references. On the other hand...with re-watching the extended versions of the original season one and two there was innuendo there, it just wasn't so blatant that kids would have picked up on it. And it was done more toward humor, rather than to be raunchy. But, I am looking forward to seeing Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg and Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessse. Not to mention seeing the General flying high on the big screen. Love it or hate it, I plan to be there opening night! LS3

Thanks, Dixie Lee! Not sure where my receipt is, and even if I could find it, my copy is already so beat up that I doubt they would take it back! LS3

For those of you that have the season 2 DVD set... I went to watch episode 17 last night, "Officer Daisy Duke" and I couldn't get it to play. It seemed as though the file was corrupted. I was able finally to get one image to show, but nothing else. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Thanks! LS3

has the movie been pushed back??
lost_sheep3 replied to rodneyfarva's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Movies
Southernpride mentioned a couple of movies going straight to video, but since they are including a ticket to the movie in the Season 3 DVD set, I think that the possibility of that happening to DOH is unlikely. I don't really care if it comes out in June, July or August, I am anxious to see it. I look at this with optimism and the hope that it will bring the original series to the attention of many more people. LS3
