  1. To basktqase; very inciteful post, but I do understand how Hollywood works MONEY. Use name recognition to try and put as many butts in the seats to make as much money as possible. Most people tend to agree that the movie is going to be on the edgier side like the first few episodes of the tv series. I agree. Those episodes were also not my particular favorites. When the show got away from that format, it took off. James Best had even mentioned changing the format after the first few episodes. Those episodes didn't define the Dukes and were far from what made the series successful and an icon. And in reference to your "retarded" comment about waiting for other's opinions about the movie, I have made up my OWN opinion about the movie. I do not want to see a movie that is going to trash a legacy that I grew up with and go about that trashing it with a group of celebrities (otherwise known as "no-talent hacks") that I also don't like. There have been many forumites that have put together fantastic lists of actors that would have given the product more credibility. And what does it says about a movie based on a tv series that the original cast wants NOTHING to do with? That speaks volumes to me and they would know more about the movie than most fans would. And travelerF150, I always enjoy reading your posts, but you can be rest assured that I won't be in any theater watching the movie. You don't have to believe me, but I'm telling the truth. For all of you that already plan on being in the theaters opening day, "good on you" and I hope that you enjoy yourselves, but Hollywood will not receive my money for the farce that they are creating. I'm gone.
  2. I'm glad that we can all agree that we all love the original DOH because at least gives us all one common bond. Everyone definitely has there own ideas and opinions of the upcoming movie. In this age of the Internet, we all find out more and more stuff about movies that get leaked out. I admit that I will not go and see the movie. Some say, see the movie and then judge. Why should I spend my money to see something that I already know will be nothing like what I grew up with? There are different reasons to do a re-make version of an old show/movie/comic book; First, to honor the success of the earlier product and give the die-hard fans something to remember, ie., Batman, Superman, the Star Trek series, etc.; Second, to reinvent the product for a modern audience, ie., Charlie's Angels, Gone in 60 Seconds, the Punisher, etc.; or to just take something for name recognition and make a quick buck, ie., Starsky & Hutch, Mod Squad, etc. I put the DOH movie in the latter category. If you look at the cast and those involved with this production and their track record, you can't see anything, but a farse and a quick buck. The proof: Jessica Simpson-no talent, is the stereotypical "dumb blonde", and MTV star, which hasn't had anything worth watching for 20 years. Johnny Knoxville-JackAss-fame & two-headed idiot from MiBII. Sean William Scott-"Stifler" from American Pie, idiot co-star in The Rundown, and finally "Dude, where's my Car?" Cletus is being played by another JackAss clown. The fact that NONE of the original cast want to be associated with the movie should really raise red flags. Then having the Director of SuperTroopers running everything. Now I enjoyed SuperTroopers' brand of comedy because I expected it, but none of the people that I have mentioned so far can give an ounce of credibility to this movie being anything other than a quick buck farce laughing in the face of the original. If I were to pay to see this, then I would be giving the WB executives exactly what they bet on; "a quick buck." For those of you holding out that the movie will be enjoyable, I applaud you for sticking to what you believe and giving it more of a chance than I am willing to do. I have my opinion on the movie and my reasons are out there on the table for all to see. I don't just jump to conclusions, I make informed decisions with the info that I have and so far the info gives me a bad impression of the movie and the more that I here, the worse that it gets. We'll all know this summer how well it does in the theaters. If it sets records at the box office and is applauded for being the "Summer Smash Hit of the Year", I'll acknowledge it, but I don't think that it will happen. I'm Gone.
  3. First of all you're dissing the Monkees mobile and all of the cool cars from the Munsters. Grandpa's dragster would dust all of them in a straight line with only the F&F Charger close in second. Next, the original Batmobile was basically a "Hot Rod Lincoln" (Lincoln Futura) with killer flames out the back. The Monkee mobile was a hot GTO that can not be forgotten. S&H's Torino would give everyone a good run for their money and I believe tied for last place would end up being KITT and Rockford's Camaro; two under powered Camaros.
  4. 1. You wash it and it actually looks worse. 2. You clean off all of the rust and then things start falling off. 3. Your mechanic says "I didn't think that there were any of these around." 4. Your new mechanic scratches his head and asks "what is it?" 5. The dealership pays YOU to keep it on the trade-in.
  5. 70% works for me even though born and raised in Michigan (which definitely came through during the test), but it must have been the Tennessee part of the family that had quality influence on me.
  6. Being a Moderator is a thankless job and our three do an exceptional job. And Brian, if you are being picked on, then it just means that we care. Plus, it's no fun to pick on someone without any power. You have to test the limits every now and then to see what is acceptable and what isn't.
  7. Nothing more needs to be said. That letter said it all and said it correctly.
  8. First thing, I see perfectly and I don't feel that Jessica is "hot". Pretty face, but you shouldn't see individual ribs when she's in a bikini. I agree with the comment that Derks Bentley has no acting experience, so he doesn't belong in the movie. But with that logic, Jessica goes. MTV is not acting, when you are dealing with Reality TV. Music videos could almost be considered acting, but since MTV hasn't shown videos in years they probably don't remember how. Knoxville makes it barely because of being in MIB II. The JackAss stuff doesn't count as acting, since being stupid in front of a camera doesn't quite constitute acting. They really didn't need to use "southern" actors in the movie, since John Schnieder was from New York, but filled the role well. There are plenty of better actors that could have been used and would have received a lot less flack about. This forum has listed some really great ideas for the different roles in the film. I understand that the movie isn't the same concept as the tv series and that is ok with me. But, with the right cast and concept, they could have had cameo roles for some of the tv cast to tie everything together and make it more paletable for those of us who grew up with the show. Some recent movies that have been made from older series' may not have been the best that they could have been, but they still included ties to the series and that made it appear to have the backing of the original series. The Hulk Movie was a far cry from the tv series and actually went back to the comic book and cartoon for basis, but Lou Ferrigno still appeared. Charlie's Angels is also a stretch from the tv series, but it still had Jacklyn Smith in the second one to help tie things together. The Star Trek franchise was lucky enough to own all of the rights to the movies and various tv series', but they were still smart enough to tie The Next Generation to the first by including many of the original characters in Generations and essentially "handing off" the series to the TNG group. It is always better to tie the newer movies to the older ones, than to totally alienate the original series and create a bunch of flack. If you are going to bring something back that was popular, don't butcher the film by hiring sub-standard actors and totally ignoring the original.
  9. redneck236, I agree with you 150%. This movie WILL tank and the executives will be scratching theirs heads and talking to themselves. It will sound something like this, "How could we have lost money on this movie?" "I don't know, we hired Jessica and I know everyone loves her." "She's always in the news, so those teen-agers had to spend their money to see her." "We also spent big bucks on Stifler and that Knoxville guy." "Yeah, I loved that JackAss stuff and American Pie was a big hit series of movies." "We even threw in Willie and Burt to keep the interest of those who used to watch the show." "What show?" "Years ago, there was a TV series." "You're kidding." "No really, it was pretty popular from what I'm told." "You need to stop smoking those funny cigarettes or I'll send you to rehab. Who in the world would make a TV show with a bright orange car with a rebel flag on the roof?" "They actually made the show for 7 seasons. The car was actually some type of an icon and the rebel flag never bothered anyone, since Political Correctness didn't exist yet." "No PC! Are you nuts?!" "They didn't PC back then because they had something else." "Oh, I can't wait to hear this one. Go ahead and tell me what was so appealing that they didn't need PC." "It was something called 'Family Values' and they also attributed it to high morals." "You need a vacation." Now after you all stop rolling around on the floor wetting yourselves, think about how true this could be.
  10. JBama01, I'll definitely agree with you about the Dukes being a Comedy/Drama, but at least the comedy portions were about more real life things and the interaction within the cast. Remember how quickly the mood changed when the General Lee was stolen and went into the lake and Roscoe and Enos thought that Bo and Luke were driving? There was the fun and excitement of the chase itself and then all of a sudden there is concern for the lives of people that were just like family (in a weird twisted sort of way). I don't see that kind of turn in emotions happening in the movie. Those involved are used to making comedies while poking fun at others and just doing stupid things to make a laugh. Something is more funny for me if it's spontaneous, and not orchestrated and shoved down my throat.
  11. Brian, I don't think that you would have to worry about Skoal cans being thrown at you by Jessica's fan. Remember that she is one of those Hollywood, California-chickies, and the Hollywood crowd has no idea what Skoal is, let alone figuring out what to do with the can. They'd use it as a coaster to make their glass of champaign stand taller than everyone else's. You bring up a good point about Hollywood chastising her for loosing weight by "head in toilet" purging, but in the same breath applauding how good her butt looks. They have the attitude that the ends justify the means. Catherine Bach had the perfect look; a pretty brunette, with down-home personality, who looked good (and healthy) in either a bikini or her famous shorts. When you see individual ribs on a girl, a-la-Jessica, then you know something is wrong and if her husband supports what she is doing, then Nick needs the back of his head slapped.
  12. I have mixed feelings about the upcoming movie. I love the original Dukes, but I hate what Hollyweird has been doing to the shows that many of us grew up on. Plus: I like the fact that Burt and Willie are apart of this project. Personally, I think that Burt would have been better as Roscoe and have Mr. Gainey play Boss. Gainey being the serious to Burt's comical side would have worked out better, but I'll give this the benefit of the doubt. The best part of the whole movie will be seeing the General Lee flying through the air. Minuses: Jessica (no talent) Simpson. She actually blends in well with Stifler and the 2-headed Jackass from MIB2, but not for this movie. Brooke Burke would have been a much better choice. Daisy wasn't afraid to fight and mix it up on the show, but once Jessica breaks a nail all bets are off. I would have rather some unknowns instead of Scott and Knoxville. Will I go see the movie in the theaters? No. I'll wait until I hear the buzz about it around town and what the rest of the forumites have to say. History has proven that Hollyweird will screw this up and I am a child of history. Examples; Charlie's Angels (both of them), Starsky & Hutch, Mod Squad, plus having people involved in the Dukes that were associated with JackAss, MTV reality shows, American Pie (good movies for comedies, but the Dukes aren't a comedy) and SuperTroopers doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy. So the weekend that the movie comes out, you can bet that I'll be watching the DVD Dukes
  13. John Schneider would be a really good idea, but I doubt that he would really want to be associated with what WB is doing. Hank Williams Jr. could most definitely pull it off and Travis Tritt wouldn't be a bad choice either. It MUST be someone who can represent the South and definitely someone from the Country Music community, since so many artists did guest spots on the show. Randy Travis' deep baratone voice could definitely add to the movie. Toby Keith is also a good thought and Trace Adkins wouldn't do a bad job either. There are so many good options out there, but any bets as to how WB will screw this part up? Every other part of the movie is going California, so don't be surprised if David Hasselhoff is the one chosen.
  14. That video was TOO COOL! Great job. Maybe the video should be sent to WB as a secondary option. They can match their movie to your short and see which one is the better final product. I have an idea that we have all witnessed the better product. Kudos and Cooters to you for a great job.
  15. We are all looking at the General Lee with the "Stars and Bars" as being part of the history and heritage of the show, which it should remain. Let's look at the General Lee from a different standpoint; as a personally owned customized car. Think of Bo and Luke customizing a car to represent themselves. A 1969 Muscle Car to represent the "ridge runner" moonshine heritage of the South, paint it Bright Orange so everyone will notice them when they drive through the county, put a push bar on the front to help out the stranded cars along the various dirt roads, definitely a CB antenna to communicate with family and friends ala the '70s & '80s timeframe, the "01" on the side so that everyone knows who has the fastest car in the county, and the Rebel Flag on top to signify being proud of their Southern heritage and being rebels themselves by not being afraid to stand up to crooked law enforcement. And finally, name it after one of the most respective generals the United States has ever had and he just happened to be from the South. Now there was nothing Politically Correct or Incorrect for that matter in my paragraph, it makes perfect sense from that point of view, and shouldn't offend anyone. So with that being said, keep the "Stars and Bars" on top of the General Lee! Dan
