Veteran's Day - 2006

Featured Replies

I spent Veteran's Day at Calverton National Cemetary On Long Island. My dad is buried there. Then I watched The Great Escape on DVD last night.

He was a vet of WWII and a prisoner in German POW camp at the end of the war. He was a tank commander in the 12th Armored Div. - 43rd Tank Bat. He was captured on the French / German line fighting on the Berlin in Jan 1945. He ended up a ta couple of different POW camps along the way.

What I wouldn't give to have him back telling some of his stories again.

In honor of all veterans of all wars.....

THANK YOU!

I wholeheartly agree ! THANK YOU and may all the men and women currently serving their country come home safely.

November 11th is remembrance day here and we wear poppies sold by veterans in their honour.

In Flanders Fields

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.
