Brian had taken off, kicking up a cloud of dust with his hasty exit. Alex watched him go and sighed as he studied the three horses in question. “Great…what do I know about this town? I don’t even know anyone in it but him!†Alex grumbled as he climbed down from the horse. “What do you think Showdown? Think I’m going to need some help?†He asked as he went over to the thoroughbreds, his steps slow and easy not wanting to spook the high strung beasts. They backed up at his approach, snorting and the look in their big eyes answered the question for him. “Never mind.†Taking off his hat, he ran his fingers through his long blond hair a moment before replacing it. “Well, let’s see who’s around.†He went over to the double doors and cautiously opened them, peering out towards the direction of the saloon hoping to see someone, anyone. “Wait here Show, I’ll be right back.†Closing the doors, he headed down the dimly lit street heading towards the saloon. There standing by his horse in front of it, he spotted a tall man in a brown duster. He appeared to be getting ready to leave and talking to his horse. Alex looked around, approaching the man cautiously. "Excuse me a moment." The tall man turned around and he raised both his hands, showing they were empty. "Take it easy Stranger, I mean you no harm just got a problem I'm hoping you can help me with." (Cue Kristy!)

Alex sat atop Showdown, looking around the big barn at the horses. No wonder that gawking kid had kept such a close eye on him and Brian all the time they were in the saloon and had waited for them outside of it. A pack of horse flesh this valuable would make any man suspicious enough to keep tabs on anyone seen as having the fortitude to seek the stolen animals. The horses had been surprisingly easy to find...TOO easy to find and that fact gnawed at him. Was that Kid setting up some sort of trap for them? Would he be coming back for these horses with help that would swing the odds in his favor? Brian's question broke this chain of thoughts and Alex started to answer it, turning his gaze towards the dark haired man in black. "I think if there was we would have known it by now--" He stopped talking when he saw the pair of suspicious eyes boring a hole in him and his own widened. "I'm no bounty hunter Brian. I found out about these horses the same time you did." He kept his eyes locked on the questioning man's face and his grip firm on Showdown's reigns, not wanting any sudden moves to turn into a big misunderstanding between him and Brian. The question still hung in the air and Alex waited to see if his words were believed or if Brian's reply would be given from the barrel of his pistol...
-
Alex lifted his chin, accepting Brian's invitation. The blond man had taken out his gun the moment the two men had discovered they were being watched. His pistol still in his hand he raised it, the barrel pointing towards the sky. His gaze turned dark and deadly as his mouth tightened into a thin line. "We have us a little fun, then plant that peeping varmint six feet under." He tucked the gun into its holster then adjusted his coat over it, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, calming down a little. "But...you're right, he wouldn't be bird dogging us for nothing. He thinks you and I are a threat to whatever he's got going on." A grin then came to Alex's face. "I say whatever he's hiding is big enough to fatten our wallets up nicely and I do think that's worth us having a look around."

*Please note* This is a joint post by both myself and Pendragon. Chance had hitched a ride with the two cowboys that were chasing Chet, rewarding each of them with a kiss on the cheek for their trouble, since by far they were the most congenial of the Hazzardites she had met thus far. After refusing their offers for refreshment ... several times, Chance made her way down one of the alleyways behind the saloon. But instead of crossing to the other street, she hopped up on the wooden staircase that lead to the second floor. There she paused for a moment; her friend might have company, given her trade. But everything seemed clear, so Chance poked her head into the open window of one of the rooms and could only raise an eyebrow at the mess. The room looked like a cyclone had hit it, the fancy wooden dresser had been knocked over, the clothes inside it were strewn all over the floor and the remaining upright furniture. The paintings on the velvet wallpaper covered walls were askew, some of them had been knocked off completely and the lacy silk canopy on the bed had been ripped clean off on one whole slide. "Good lord, Min. One of your customers bring his own stampede with him?†The young woman lounged on her bed, a lazy smile on her face as she fanned it with a feather fan. “No Chance, he was stampede enough--†She sighed as she sat up; smoothing her hands over the silk gown she had changed into. “And don’t worry about the mess--He paid me well for the damages.†Never were two women were such opposites, nor greater friends. Min was a lady from the top of her carefully done hair to her lace-up shoes. She had a sweet charm that made her one of the best in the business in this area. Chance was wild, reckless, and true to her name. Although she kept good hygiene, she couldn't give a rip about her hair, makeup or clothes, as long as the former kept out of her face and the latter were in good condition. But the combination of Chance and Min's skills was potent, and profitable. Chance's eyebrow inched a little higher at Min's sated expression. The blonde woman climbed through the window, righted a chair and sat down. "Well, sounds like you had a better day than me, that's for sure." She withdrew the jade earrings. "You probably heard the commotion downstairs; I lost my gambling money, but managed to slip these off some dandy lady's ears when I bumped into her." Chance idly walked over and picked up Min's best corset, ripped completely in half. “So who's your new stallion?†“Dark haired cowboy…he was sitting downstairs with a blond.†Min turned away from her friend and went over to a silver cart. She plucked a bottle of whiskey from it and poured two drinks, handing one to her friend. “All in black…dark velvet eyes and…†A wicked smile drew her lips up in a bow. “I won’t go into any more details than that. But trust me Darling I wish all my customers were that much man, makes my profession a genuine pleasure.†Having heard this description halfway through her drink, Chance choked on her whiskey, coughing. "Oh boy, Min, we see different sides of men in our professions, your stallion is my jackass." She quickly recounted her and the stranger's rather stormy meeting downstairs. “Not from my side he wasn’t--†Min gulped down the rest of her drink and set her glass aside. “So let me see those earrings.†Handing them over, Chance smirked to her friend. "Had it not been for the fact I needed to leave because I just swiped these, he wouldn't have been any good to you." Min took the earrings and gave them the once over, they appeared to be custom made, the jade and silver both pure. She turned them see one of the earrings had a broken clasp. "They're good, should fetch a nice price. Of course that price would be higher if the clasp on this one wasn't busted, what happened?" "Don't know. Probably fell off in the shuffle." Chance gave a sheepish grin. "It's probably still somewhere in the bar." "It doesn't matter, the silver can be melted down and the jade can be put in a new setting." Min went back over to her bed and sat down on it. "How much you want for them?" "Twenty. I've been snarled at, kidnapped and dropped off for the middle of the prairie for them. Talk about damage payment!" "Twenty?" Min opened her mouth about to protest but then closed it again. Chance had been through enough of an ordeal today without adding another one to the list. Beside the bed sat a nightstand with a silver box, Min touched the front of her gown then reached down inside it pulling out a key. She unlocked the box and pulled out a bill handing it to her friend. "Here you go partner, I say you've earned your money today." Grinning, Chance tipped her hat. "I'll double this by tonight." Min smiled and shook her head. "I have no doubts about that, you just watch yourself out there all right?" "Don't I always? You do the same, my friend." The blonde gambler took one last look around the room. "And take it easy on the redecorating binges, huh?" She chuckled and stepped out onto the balcony of the saloon.
-
Alex nodded; he took a slow and easy look around. The feel of the perverbial rope began to tighten around his neck as he rose to his feet. "I think you're right. We need to slide out of this town slow and easy like before someone gets the idea that its you and me with the sticky fingers." Casually, Alex moved to the chair his saddlebags hung on and lifted them, placing them over his shoulder. The air in the bar had already begun to grow tense and the gazes of the remaining patrons were becoming less friendlier by the second. Moving back over to the dark haired man, Alex stuck out his right hand. "I never did catch your name, I'm Alex Jackson." He wasnt sure whether or not the stranger would shake his hand, but the man had bought him a drink and that alone was worth giving courtesy a try.
-
Alex nodded, shifting towards the dark haired stranger. "Yeah..the kid took off a few minutes ago and so did that refined lady and her brother. I got the impression that the kid was waiting for you to come back down but he sure seemed to take an interest in me." He had another sip of his beer, setting the mug down on the counter. "Maybe it was all the noise that drove him away." He raised an eyebrow seeing the stranger's grin. "I guess I don't have to ask how things went upstairs, I kept expecting the ceiling to cave in." A smile came to his own face. "I take it the lady was well worth the money?"
-
Alex shook his head, laughing at the comment made by the man in black as he carried the beautiful woman away. He doubted very much the stranger would return in ten minutes, not the way he and the red dressed woman were looking at each other. Watching the black clad man disappear, Alex then cast a glance over his shoulder seeing that he had an admirer of his own. The kid from across the room watched him and he raised an eyebrow at the sudden interest. "Something on your mind Kid?" He asked as he shifted in the stool towards him.
-
"You heard him..." Alex approached the scene cautiously with slow purposeful steps, the side of his coat drawn away from his holster revealing his side arm. He now stood beside the man in black and the lady gambler, his stance suggesting he was ready for anything that may come. His dark eyes stared into the unlucky card player's, his gaze cold and intent transfixed on the losing man's face. Alex watched the man's hand move closer to his gun, fingers flexing and he raised his chin. "You sure you want to play it like this?" His right arm hung at his side, Alex's hand hovering close to the handle of his pistol. "You better consider your predicament really carefully before you go jumping into something you might not live through." The card player's gaze shifted from right to left, staring down the two men.
-
Alex tipped his head back, downing his shot in one gulp. He sat his glass back down and turned, seeing the kid that had been on the far side of the room now suddenly in between himself and the dark haired man. Things suddenly seemed a bit too crowded for his liking and he picked up his saddlebags and moved to the table closest to the end of the bar. He slung his bags over the back of the chair and approached the man in black, adjusting his coat to once more conceal his holster. Alex now stood beside him, hands kept in plain sight so there would be no misunderstandings for this proximity. "I've been watching you. You seem to know your way around this town." He started, hoping the reply he wanted didn't come with a bullet.

Hey Gang--- I had my characters take Brian's quiz and here are the results: Min-- she got mostly B's, not terribly surprising.. And of course my little former assassin Alex got every single question with a D answer! How terribly shocking! Jax

"The National Weather Service in Atlanta has an update for the Tornado warning issued earlier. Apparently the storm has dissipated and no more tornadoes are expected for Northern Hazzard County or any of the surrounding areas." "Well thank goodness THAT'S over." Min sighed in relief as she turned off her radio and pulled up to the Tri County hospital. Uncle Jesse stood by the entrance and closed his pocket watch, his face relieved. "Come on let's get Daisy inside and see about the boys!" He hurried up the hospital ramp as Ian, Min and Nate still holding Daisy, went inside the emergency entrance.
-
Ian opened the bank door and peeked outside, seeing that things had calmed down for now. He walked down the steps with Min following close behind him. "Everything over with?" "For now anyway." Ian answered as he spotted the gang of people in front of the Courthouse, they looked a bit frantic and the couple went over to them. "What's going on?" "Daisy, we dont know where Daisy is!" Enos answered, his voice climbing higher in pitch as he wrung his hands together nervously. Ian put a hand on Enos' shoulder. "Now just calm down, lets look at this logically. If she was in the courthouse or some place else in town that survived the twister we would have heard from her by now." "But what if shes NOT someplace that survived the twister--" Min whispered as she looked across the square at the flattened remains of Doctor Walker's front porch. "What if she went inside the house?" "Oh no--" Ian and Min both ran across the square over to the doctor's house, seeing the huge half of the tree. "We can't move this thing its too big. Let's try the back to get inside." They both ran around the back of the house and tried the door but it was locked. "Daisy! Daisy are you in there?" "Here let me see what I can do." Nate suddenly appeared behind Min and Ian, they both backed off from the door and watched as he gathered up the back of his leather trenchcoat and kicked at the back door, the wood splintering. He did it again and the door burst open, the three wasted no time and went inside. The house was a wreck, shelves and furniture knocked over, books and knick knacks littered the floor. Finally Ian spotted a supine figure on the floor of the living room. "Daisy!" Min too saw the dark haired figure and went over to her cousin, rolling her over onto her back. "She's unconscious." "Here let me get her." Nate squatted down and put one hand under Daisy's neck, the other under her knees and lifted her up, cradling her against his chest. "Come on let's get out of here." Nate carried Daisy outside with Ian and Min following him. "We can take Darlin' its parked on the next street over." The three people walked over to the next block, spotting Min's cherry red 1966 Mustang. She pulled the keys from her pocket and unlocked the doors. "Nate just lay Daisy out on the back seat." "Dont worry about your cousin Min, I'll take care of her." Nate said with a smile as he carefully climbed into the backseat. Ian pushed the passenger seat back down and got into the car. "Tri County is the closest, we'll take her there." "Right." Min started up her mustang and headed out of the square. She picked up the CB mike and turned it to the channel the Dukes used. "Li'l Darlin' calling Shepherd, do you read me Shepherd?" "I hear ya Darlin', Min are you all right?" "I'm fine Uncle Jesse but Daisy's not. She was in the doc's house when the tree hit it, I dont know how bad she's hurt but we're taking her to Tri County right now." "She won't be the only Duke there Min, Bo and Luke are on their way too." Min's heart froze in her chest. "Are they all right?" "The General got rolled, they're hurt pretty good but alive." "Thank God for that, I'll meet you there Shepherd, Darlin' out."
-
Ian heard the tornado tearing through the square as he and the brunette woman ran. He risked a peek over his shoudler at the destruction behind him, seeing the bits of torn up houses and broken glass litering the street behind him as they made it to the bank. The doors were locked and he pounded on them with his fist. "Open up!" Finally a young woman cracked open the door. "Dang fools out in a tornado! Get in here!" She pulled both of them inside and slammed the door closed once more.
-
"LOOK OUT!!" Ian yelled as he ran down the courthouse steps and across the square. He dove at the brunette woman, the two of them rolling down the front porch steps just as the lightening struck the big oak tree with the orange X on it. It split in two, one half of the thick trunk came crashing down, taking out Chance's porch with it as it fell. Ian lifted his head and looked over his shoulder, watching as the big funnel cloud dropped down from the sky. The tornado came barrelling towards both of them, tossing cars like toys, blowing out windows and swirling debris around like leaves. Ian watched it coming closer and swallowed hard. "Oh my God! We've got to get out of here!" He got to his feet and grabbed the young woman by the arm pulling her up. The wind blew so strong it almost shoved them both back down. The two of them headed toward the bank as fast as they could.
-
"Oh I'm fine, we're just gathering up signatures to preserve that big oak tree." Another loud thunder clap rang out and with it a few drops began to fall. Ian stuck out his hand and a couple of fat rain drops fell into his palm. "Uh oh, its starting to rain and those clouds really look bad." The wind began to kick up and both Hilery and Ian watched as people in Hazzard Square began to run and take cover from the sudden storm. A bright flash made Ian cringe as he raised his head to look up at the now black sky. "Whoa! That was close!" A white Hazzard patrol car pulled up beside the curb where Ian and Hilery stood. Rosco had his hand on top of his black Stetson as he got out of the car. "You two better take some cover! The weather service reports that all of Hazzard County is under a Tornado Warning!" "Cover? Where?" Ian raised his hand to block out a blast of wind that pushed his blond hair back from his shoulders. "We can take cover downstairs in the Courthouse, come on! Before we all get blown all the way to Tennessee!" Rosco turned and headed up the steps with Ian and Hilery in tow.
-
Ian turned toward the greeting, setting the carrier down. "Hi Hilery how are you doing?" A loud clap of thunder suddenly answered the questoin and he raised his head to the darkening sky. "Wow! Take a look at those thunderheads. Looks like a big storm is coming."

A knock on the door distracted the Game Warden as a tall blond man in jeans and a blue button down shirt stepped into the office. Ian was accompanied by Bo and Luke Duke, the three men had papers in their hand. "Excuse us, I hope we're not intruding but we've been out collecting signatures and thought we'd drop them off." Bo straightened the papers in his hand and laid them gently on the edge of Val's desk. "We got a whole lot more than a hundred, just in case Boss tries to give you a hard time." "Shoot, more like 300 hundred, everyone in town wants that tree preserved." Luke stepped up and handed his papers to the Game Warden. "And I think Daisy, Min and Daney are still out collecting." Ian handed his pile to Valerie and stepped back.

Okay, I think we've exhausted this subject enough here people... Once again this is all about choices... if you choose to stay or go is ENTIRELY up to you. Life DOES have a way of getting in the way and interferring with writing time or online time. This is a fact of life that cannot be changed, sometimes STUFF happens... But I frankly have had enough of this particular topic, its caused enough problems and would like to move on. Jax
-
All right, now its my turn to get into the mix of this... I've kept silent until now but seeing Brian's post made me decide to throw my two cents in. First off....We all have our own interpretations about Hazzard, but one thing the show made perfectly clear is that Hazzard isn't Lollipop Land where we all get together in Hazzard Square, join hands and sing Cumbaya or Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore. Never has.. never will be. But if thats the way some of you see it then thats fine, more power to you but as I said, the show CLEARLY showed that the streets of Hazzard weren't paved with chocolate and gumdrops. Now.. as for fights and what not. That's a part of life, in Hazzard or NOT we all squabble, disagree and occassionally resort to fistacuffs. Hazzard is no exception to this rule, I mean look how many times the Boars Nest got busted up? AT LEAST once a episode! But just like the patrons in the Boars Nest we all have two choices when a fight breaks out... either walk away or JOIN IN! If anyone in a chat or anyplace else doesnt like someone or something, FEEL FREE to use the door marked EXIT. It's clearly MARKED. After all, how fair is it to demand or ask that we all put on white robes and wings? Not one bit I'm afraid. Hazzard is just like any other typical town.. its got good guys and bad! The balance of good and bad must be maintained and I for one don't want to see a bad guy thats NEEDED in this town to pack his bags and go. It all comes down to a very simple choice... Either play or don't. VERY VERY SIMPLE...if you dont want to play thats cool but don't spoil it for the rest of us that DO! Jax PS. This is just my opinion...feel free to take it as you all see fit.
