Question for Admin

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had a question for the admins around here. I'm not sure who they were so I created this thread. I had posted about a contest I was running in the video game section of this forum about a way members could win a free copy of the Return of the General Lee video game. I think that post might have been deleted and I wanted to know if I had broken any forum guidelines or done anything wrong. Thanks!

Hi snicker,

We don't have a whole lot of rules and regs here at the HNet forums (other than common courtesy...and sometimes even that goes out the window. LOL). However, we draw the line at any solictations and self promotions of other websites. Brian's post about this topic from our announcements section basically covers it...

Basically, as Brian's post puts it, we don't want the forums to become a classified ad type section.

I'm not quite sure I understand but thanks for explaining your rules. It seems to me that any online articles you post about the upcoming DoH movies are promoting other peoples websites. Magazines post their info online so that traffic will come to their site. And you gladly do that.

However, a few months ago when I sent yall a link for our hands-on review of the Return of the General Lee video game it never got posted. That is relevant DoH news that your readers would enjoy just like movie news from online magazines that you post about. It just seems like you are a little closed and don't want to post a link to content on a website that is similiar than yours despite it maybe being interesting to your readers.

In the end, yall have complete control over what news you link to so I can respect that. I was just trying to get a little more info on your thinking. Thanks for explaining!

Howdy Snicker.

Since I mighta been the one who deleted your post, I'll try to explain as well.

People who post about somebody else's site, in the interest of saying "lookit this, lookit that ".... is more objective, than a webmaster himself joining HNet for no other reason than to say, "Hey, come look at ME."

Sometimes, we'll let it slide if it seems like more of a personal site, or hobby page, whatever. And yeah, we're human and this is subjective, so it's not always black n' white. I'll be the first to admit that HazzardNet ain't a perfect democracy. (Or confederacy, for that matter.)

Often, we have to make a quick judgement call, based upon the perceived authenticity and relative worth of the link/post in question. And when in doubt - we will always make the call in favor of HazzardNet's protection, and that of our users. So don't take it personally.

If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a Private Message, or use the Contact Us link on the homepage.

Thank ya,

Brian
